Tick Tick Tick Tick
The room would be completely silent were it not for the ticking of the clock on the wall.
The environment was more comfortable than your usual medical setting, but it still felt cold in a way.
The door creaked open and in stepped professor Crewel. "Hey, Pup." His voice lacked its usual stern tone one would hear in the classroom; instead, his voice was gentle and almost hoarse.
The hoarseness was no doubt a result of him screaming at the headmage in a roar you shiver even recalling. He had spent hours tearing into the man for his gross negligence and irresponsibility.
"Pup?" His voice became more worried when you failed to answer.
"Sorry." A meek, rasped voice leaves you throat. Your throat burns with dryness despite the 6 glasses of water you already drank, and it feels like every syllable echoes through your head and causes an intense, throbbing pain. You don't recognize the voice that claws its way out of your throat as your own.
You hear the soft scrape of a chair on the floor next to your bed. "No. Don't apologize, Pup." Rocking your gaze slowly over to him its clear to you, with the way his jaw clenches and unclenches while his eyes search the blanket covering you, that he wants to say something, but isn't sure what.
You slowly rock your head to look forward again. "Everyone's been in such a panic. . .and it's my fault, I-"
The man cuts you off as you choke on your words: "Pup. This is not your fault."
"But-" Your throat feels like its been given a massage with a thousand razor blades. The coughing your attempts to speak cause only make the pain worse.
Crewel quickly grabs another glass of water and holds it up to your lips for you to drink. "But nothing, Pup- Keep those arms down or you'll re-open the wounds. That old building was bound to collapse at some point. We all knew it. If the fault is on anyone it's on us staff. Crowley made you stay there, and we didn't stop him." The glass cup clinks slightly too harshly onto the nightstand as he sets it down.
Silence falls between the two of you.
Tick Tick Tick Tick
The ticking of the clock numbs your thoughts. You force your mind to stop focusing on the pain radiating from every inch of your body and instead listen to the steady ticking of the clock. The only other sound that can be herd is the occasional hurried footsteps outside the door as the other staff do their best to take care of the situation.
Your injuries have already been treated by a specialty team sent from STYX the moment the news got to them. They were the only ones aside from Grim, Leona, and the staff that had seen your mangled form before you were wrapped up like a mummy. You didn't have to ask how bad it was. Seeing Crowley throw up at the sight of you was enough to tell you it was bad.
The STYX team had spent nearly a whole 24 hours stitching you back together like some ragdoll and rearranging the many pieces of you that had been ripped and jostled out of place. If not for them. . .well, you don't want to think about it. If you looked like a mummy on the outside, you were sure that under the bandages you looked like Frankenstein's monster. There really wasn't a single bit of you that got out of that death trap unscathed.
You were kept in the school infirmary instead of being carted off to some high-tech STYX facility only because they needed to operate on you as soon as possible and didn't want to move you too much after the initial procedures. They made do by shipping a ton (literally speaking, more like 3 tons) of medical equipment to the school, most of which was now littered around the infirmary in a rushed yet professional way.
Despite your closeness to your friends, the only people who had come to see you were the staff. It's not that none of your friends wanted to see you, but that they weren't allowed to. The doctor's worried having them in so soon, when they were still full of hysteria from the news, wouldn't be the best idea. They weren't able to text you either as your phone had been crushed in the collapse.
"How's Grim?"
Professor Crewel hums: "Physically, he's pretty unscathed. He just has a few scrapes and bruises. Mentally, he's a bit traumatized."
You supposed that made sense. You didn't remember much, but what you did remember was Grim's voice. He had been returning to the dorm from after school detention when he found the building in shambles on the ground. He called out to you but your lungs were filled with debris and your torso was being crushed by layers of rubble. The dorm ghosts met Grim at the edge of the junk pile that used to be a dorm and confirmed that you were inside and that you needed help. The ghosts talked to you as you laid there, not being able to physically move anything off you themselves. They kept you awake and assured you that Grim was getting help.
Not long later you heard shouting. Two of the ghosts stayed with you while the third went out to meet the staff and fill them in. You were told after the fact that that's about the time they called up Leona to use his unique magic so they could get you out as soon as possible (that was the first time many saw the lion run).
You were blanking in and out of consciousness when they found you, but you remember them finding you. The feeling of the weight of the rubble lessening as it was methodically turned to sand and removed (in order to not end up crushing you with sand instead), the small grains dripping on your face, and eventually, the full force of the pouring rain battering your face as the last of the rubble was removed from above you. You remember Leona's manic eyes turning horrified, Crowley puking, and worst of all, Grim's face.
"STYX sent over a few trauma counselors. There are ones assigned specifically to Leona and Grim as well since they saw some of the worst of it." Crewel finally broke the silence again.
"And you? You and. . .the other teachers were there too. . .and Sam."
"Calm down, Pup. We've all had evaluations done to assess how we're handling it. We'll be fine.
"What about. . ." Your voice trails off, but from the look in your eyes, Crewel can tell what you were about to ask.
"What about the headmage?"
You nod, wincing slightly when the motion disturbs an injury on your neck.
"He's under investigation." Crewel responds after a brief pause. He knew that you surely couldn't be all that fond of the crow, but as you saw it, he was probably also your only ticket home. Crewel looked up to gauge your response, but your face remained neutral.
"And you, Pup? I obviously know you aren't doing particularly well physically right now, but what about mentally?"
"Hm?"
Crewel hesitated, not wanting to dig around in a mental wound and make it worse, "You were. . .under there for a while. I'm sure it must've been. . .scary."
You think for a moment before responding: "Was I really under there that long? It didn't feel like it. . .I think I passed out a few times." Your mumbled words put Crewel at ease in a way. He's not happy that you had been passing out, but he was at least glad that you weren't stuck under there fully conscious and feeling every second tick by as if it were an hour.
"Hmm. I see." Crewel nods. "I ought to let you rest now. A counselor will stop by tomorrow to talk to you about what happened." He stands up as he says this, his knuckles still white from how tightly he'd been gripping the fabric of his pants. "Rest well, Pup."
You simply nod, this time more carefully as to not disturb your wounds, and watch him walk out. When the door closes you swear you hear a choked sob.

More of uh. Amnesiac/evil-spirit looking ghost!skully. Because I have a Problem.
Jade and Floyd evicting Yuu was the equivalent of kicking someone's not-quite stray cat.
Also here's a cursed image of him when he's back in his proper mind and manners about the whole incident in the linked fic.

If he tried harder, would you stay? If he was better, would you stay?
Imagine Grim's overblot.
He's scared, confused. Why does his henchman need to leave?
What's so wrong with their life here? They've got lots of friends. Look how popular the Great Grim is, so Yuu must be popular by association! Lots of tasty food to try. They even got a dorm all their own!
Grim's gonna be a great mage one day and he's gonna be the best mage ever and have as many cans of tuna as he wants for being number one!
Would Yuu stay if he shared his tuna? He'll give them lots! If he's #1 that means he can just get money easily, so he'll be able to pay his henchman lots of money and have a nice place to live. The nicest house they can imagine, it'll make even Leona jealous!
Because he's the Great Grim right?
If his henchman is leaving, so who's gonna cuddle with him now if they come back from yet another overblot fight? Who's gonna patch him up and cheer him up as they help clean up his scrapes. Mind you he had less from the last fight they were in, that means he must be getting better right?
Yuu, who loved him even if he was snarky brat, who would always help him with his homework, not that he needed help mind you, but Grim's such a great boss, that of course his henchman wants him to succeed.
He really picked a great henchman! They're were great! They were pretty smart. Maybe not as smart as Grim, but they had better grades then Deuce at least, and they could cook! Sure they burnt the Mac and cheese once or twice, but he thought the burnt bits were still tasty.
But his henchman and even the great grim himself learned how to cook! He was such a a great boss he even warmed up a can of soup for his henchman who was sick in bed. He remembers hearing soup was good for when you're sick from Trey.
Would they come back if he tried harder? He'll try extra hard not to fall asleep in Trien's class. He'll try not to wiggle so much on the broom during Vargas' class. He's sure he'll get their combined grades up. Because even without magic they're like, the best option for a henchman here in this place. Nobody quiet like them here.
What if they get hurt? Yuu said his purring always made them feel better. Does he need to purr more? Purr harder? He'll try harder so they get sick less. He'll listen better so he gets in less fights and Yuu's not stuck apologizing for his behavior. Yuu could be a little mean sometimes. Okay, Yuu wasn't really mean they were… Um what was the word? Firm? Strict? Oh, they were firm. But they were nice.
Nobody here was as nice as Yuu was. Look how many things they did because they cared about everybody here so much! Because they cared about him so much they almost died and fought the almost end of the world just to bring him HOME.
Home. NRC was his home. Yuu was his home.
Yuu was, no matter how mean he got. No matter when he scratched them and acted nasty. He… He even hurt his henchman. Yuu's arm was injured because of him.
But no matter how bad things got, Yuu was always there to make sure he had a home to go home to.
Ramshackle's home because Yuu is there.
If Yuu's gone. Then where does Grim go? What's the point of being a great mage if the one person who stuck by you this whole time just goes away? Please don't leave him.
Please.

Hello again :D I saw that requests are open so I want to make a new one
Scenario: The prefect finds out that they can't go home anymore and feels broken and depressed. Grim tries to help cheer up his sidekick (although he doesn't really know what to do). Grim wants to prove that they can both be a "cool new family" even though it will be a painful process for the prefect they can eventually be happy together
(this idea came to me when I saw the scene from this is my family lilo and stitch )

You were miserable.
Homesick, so homesick that even looking up the ceiling to get your thoughts off, or that you just didn't have the energy to move your body anymore—even if your neck is killing you and feels like it’s going to snap on you.
“Hey henchmen, what are you doing? What are you looking so sad for?!”
You didn’t answer at all, you didn’t want to—it was like his words went through one ear and out from the other. Grim’s tail flicked, ears twitching as he padded closer. “Oi, don’t just sit there like a lump! You’re my henchman, you’re supposed to listen when I talk.” His voice had that usual entitlement edge.
When you still didn’t react, he grumbled under his breath before leaping onto the bed, his small paws pressing into your shoulder.
“…Is it ‘cause you can’t go home?”
It was an obvious question. He already knew the answer, but hearing it out loud made it worse somehow.
Grim let out a low “hmph” and sat down, his tail curling around himself. “Well, so what? You don’t gotta act like it’s the end of the world.”
Easy for him to say. It’s so easy for him to say that.
Grim scooted closer—awkwardly, like he wasn’t used to this kind of thing—and puffed out his chest, his fur slightly warming your side like a heater set on the lowest setting.
“Look, it’s not like I get it or anything, but…” His tail twitched, and his voice wavered, just a little. “You already got me, don’tcha? So it’s fine! I’m the great grim, ill make a door for you go even if it’s impossible.”
That made you huff out something close to a laugh—small, tired, dry, and barely a breath of a sound, but it was there.
Grim’s ears twitched, and he turned his nose up proudly. “See? I knew I could cheer ya up! It’s only natural since I’m amazing.”
“Yeah.”

What Gets Muffled by the Rain
Characters: Ace Trapolla, Deuce Spade, Grim, GN reader
Word Count: 1.8k
Warnings: Very mild yandere (intended to be platonic but can be read as romantic), mild horror(ish)
Note: Tried my hand at writing a bit of horror, honestly not super happy with how it turned out, so feedback/ constructed criticism would be greatly appreciated!
______________________________________________________________
Your lungs burned as you ran, mud clinging to your shoes and pulling you down as grass turned to marsh. It wasn’t supposed to rain until late evening, yet here you were, racing against a rapidly darkening sky as what had just been a light drizzle began to grow heavy.
“Grim, Hurry! We don’t have much time!”
You shouted over your shoulder, your small companion keeping pace just a few feet behind you.
“Mya! I’m leggin’ it as fast as I can!”
The threshold of Ramshackle finally came into view, and you threw the ancient gate open with enough force you almost worried it might break. Regardless, you kept going, dodging puddles and a few particularly slippery steps as you rounded the top of the hill. Salvation now in sight, you pushed harder, going as fast as your legs could take you as you reached your destination at last.
As much as your body begged for a moment of reprieve, you knew time was of the essence. Arms outstretched, you hurriedly pulled as many clothes as you could free from the line, piling them on top of each other until you could hardly see over their bulk. Grim did the same, and with your cargo secured you sprinted back to the dorm, making it just as the rain became a downpour. Once inside you kicked the door shut, and Grim collapsed into his pile of now damp clothing with a huff.
“Well that was a big waste of time, everything still got soaked!
You took a moment to catch your breath, before letting out a sigh as you looked down at the wet garments. You could’ve avoided this whole mess had Crowley just given you access to a damn dryer, but apparently that was too much to ask for. Residing yourself to your fate of having to yet again redo the laundry, you tossed the soaked mess into a basket to deal with later.
“It was worth a shot. Maybe we should put up a tarp or something next time?”
Grim didn’t respond, now too focused on fussing over his muddy fur and paws. You felt a smile make its way onto your face as you watched him, laughing lightly at his antics before you felt the squish of mud in your own water-logged shoes and grimaced. It might be a good idea to grab some towels, you reasoned, so you kicked off your mucky sneakers and began the journey upstairs to the linen closet.
The second floor had a certain.. stillness, to it. Dim light filtered in from the stained windows, frosted with time, and the baseboards always seemed to be coated in a thin layer of dust no matter how hard you cleaned. The long hallway was lined with doors to old dorm rooms, most jammed to the point of inaccessibility after decades of abandonment. You didn’t really like going up here, to be honest, but you ignored the goosebumps that lined your arms as you made your way down the hall.
Finally reaching the tiny closet, you moved to grab a few towels when you suddenly paused.
Shh.
The faintest of sounds graced your ear. It was so quiet against the sound of the rain that you wondered if you had really heard anything. Slowly, you set the towels back down and cautiously peaked around the edge of the door.
Nothing. Just the same stretching hall, still and unmoving. You blinked, staring for a moment longer before shaking your head as you got back to your task. Your hands had hardly even touched the linens when again,
Shhh.
It was louder, this time, just barely but enough to confirm you’d really heard it. You responded faster this time, grabbing a hold of the door as you whipped your head around it, looking down the hallway. Still nothing. Your eyes scanned the hall, searching for any signs of movement.
“Grim?”
You called out, to no answer. You wondered if maybe the ghosts were playing a prank on you, just waiting for the perfect opportunity to jump out and spook you. Task temporarily postponed, you closed the closet door, the old wood creaking as you did. Slowly, you creeped down the long corridor. The sound of your footsteps echoed in your ears, and you were hit with that awful, instinctual feeling that you were being too loud. Your eyes darted around you as you went, gaze lingering on each stretching shadow you passed.
You were nearly at the stairs again when you had that unmistakable urge to turn around. You stood still for a moment, dread creeping its way up your spine. Inch by inch, you began to turn your head, eyes dragging across the wall, prolonging the inevitable. You weren’t sure what you were even looking for, but as your gaze landed on your bedroom door, the sinking in your heart doubled.
You wagered a glance back to the stairs, briefly considering just tucking tail and running. Still, as you locked eyes with the door again, you swear it almost felt like something was… pulling you. The image of a fishhook flashed in your mind as you slowly made your way to the room.
The rough wood of the door felt cool against your cheek as you pressed against it, listening. Silence. You waited another beat, before raising shaky fingers to the handle. The sound of old metal echoed throughout the hall as you turned the knob, and you winced. Warrily, your head peaked around the edge of the wood, bracing for an impact that never came.
Your eyes struggled to adjust, the ribbon of dim light from the hall doing little to illuminate the room. It was oppressive, the darkness, but just as you were about to find the light switch, your attention was drawn by something else.
Hhhh..
Your blood froze in your veins, the noise sounding much closer now. You didn’t move an inch as your eyes flicked over the room, half expecting to find some horrifying figure lurking in the corner when you finally locked on something. The Mirror.
An odd numbness washed over you, fear being replaced by a deep, unignorable need to get closer.  One slow, agonizing step after another, your feet began to carry you in. The once subtle sounds grew louder, a soft knock, a distant call of your name. Even still, you could hardly hear them over the sound of blood rushing in your ears. The outside world began to grow muffled, and soon enough, it was just you and the mirror, standing face to face.
You leaned in, your own face looking back at you with an odd blurriness, the outline seeming to blend into the world behind. The sound of heavy breathing filled the room, whether it was coming from you or the mirror you couldn’t tell, and the world around you began to melt. Closer. You pressed forward, noses nearly touching as the face in front of you began to distort, the reflection of your hand slowly raising up to the surface until-
Grab
You stumbled as something yanked you back, hard enough to lose your balance. You nearly collided with the floor, but were stopped as you felt two sturdy arms grab onto your shoulders.
“Whoa hey, hey, easy! It’s just us!”
Your head felt hazy for a moment as the world around you gradually regained its shape. You blinked. The lights had been turned on, and standing in front of you was Ace, his usual half-mocking smile being shadowed by an uncharacteristically concerned look.
“Hey, you good, Prefect? What the hell were you doing standing in the middle of a dark room like that? Creepy as shit.”
“Give them a break, Ace.”
You heard from behind you. Looking up over your shoulder you could see Deuce, arms still supporting you after catching your fall. He looked down at you, worry evident on his face.
“Seriously, though, are you ok? Wha- hey, your nose is bleeding!”
It took a moment for you to process their words, head still a bit dizzy. You half-mindedly raised your hand to your face, and sure enough, felt a warm liquid coat your fingers. That seemed to snap you out of whatever trance you had been in, and you did a double take at the two.
“I.. yeah, yeah I’m fine. I just…”
You shook your head, legs finally able to hold yourself upright enough for Deuce to release his hold. It’s then that you actually processed their presence.
“When did you guys get here anyways?”
“We just got here.” Ace replied. “We knocked and called your name, but you weren’t answering, so Grim eventually let us in. Told us you were up here, but when we found you you were totally out of it.”
“Here,”
Deuce handed you a tissue, and you pressed it to your nose with a quick ‘thanks’ as Ace finished his recount. You tried to piece together the series of events in your head, but came up empty. It felt like there was a heavy fog in your mind, too thick to see through, and as you tried to think about it your head began to ache. Your eyes began traveling back up to the mirror, but before they could linger too long Deuce quickly spoke up, diverting your attention to him.
“Anyways, that’s not what we're here for. There was gonna be an un-birthday party today, but that idea’s scrapped now thanks to the weather. Which means-”
He was cut off, Ace grabbing you by the shoulder as he began to lead you back out of the room.
“There’s a whole party’s worth of treats just sitting for the taking. Wouldn’t want to put Trey’s hard work to waste, right?”
He gave you a sly smile, to which you were unamused.
“Mmhmm. And you’re sure you're not bringing me along just so I can help you clean up?”
He made a faux pained face, dramatically clutching his hand over his heart.
“You wound me, prefect!”
The sound of your bedroom door being shut briefly rang out, before Deuce joined the two of you again. He looked a bit sheepish as he spoke.
“We could definitely use some help packing up the decorations, but Trey did promise the leftovers as a reward.”
You let out a long sigh, though there was no real annoyance in it.
“Fine. But only if I get to use Heartslabyul’s dryer.”
“Deal!”
The three of you made your way down the stairs, making idle chatter as you did. You went to tell Grim the game plan, and with food on the line he was far too eager to agree. Though as your attention was briefly diverted away, you missed the look Ace and Deuce shot to each other, and the glance back at your room. There was a quiet understanding between them before you turned back and smiled.
“Ready?” You asked.
“Yep!”
“Ready!”
With everyone on board, the four of you left Ramshackle and braved the storm, and a silent agreement was made behind you.
They’d be back.

The Prefect and The Draconia
A short overview of the Ramshackle prefect and their strange (but kind) horned fellow friend: as seen through the eyes of outsiders.
(A/N: #Malleyuu notes with an OC but feel free to project. We're all delulu here ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭ )
Tumblr media
His Henchman is crazy.
Or at least, that's what Grim thinks when he's woken up at sunrise to Yue's bizarre ramblings. Something about the time being 1 AM, then fireflies at night, and a tall, horned figure – is what he takes from their babble amidst his own groans and pleas to return to sleep. He'd think them delirious from slumber, mumbling about another dream, if it weren't for the way Yue's eyes sparkled with genuine interest. Grim yields, in the end, for one of the many things he's learned about his reliable servant is that they can be awfully enthusiastic when it comes to this world's curiosities.
“He told me to call him whatever I want,” Yue continues, ruffling Grim's fur dry with a clean rag. Before he could insert magnificent ideas of his own, they beat him to it with a soft smile on their lips.
“I'm thinking of naming him Nyx: the personification of the night. What do you think?”
“What? Because he only shows up at night?” Like some wacky cryptid.
“Yup.”
He hears his henchman forgo the brush, letting it clatter loudly against the table.
“Hm... Nyx, huh...” Grim falls into thought, testing the name on his tongue like premium quality tuna. He doesn't even notice how Yue ties the striped ribbon around his neck. Triumphant, he turns to them with a grin.
“That's not half-bad, Henchman! It's cool and mysterious. Not as cool and mysterious as me, of course, but I'd say it's a close second!”
“Naturally. I wouldn't dare bestow a name mightier than the Great Grim's.”
Despite the stream of praise his henchman delivers (which he pleasantly basks in), Yue eventually derails, returning to speak of the horned man yet again. What Grim's superior brain gathers is this: One, this Nyx guy is super weird. Two, Yue's interest has been piqued like no other before.
He'll demand some omurice as payment for his counsel later on.
. . .
Malleus has made a friend.
The news was dropped onto Lilia's lap rather unceremoniously when one night, the Young Lord—having just returned from another evening excursion, went to sit with him in the Diasomnia lounge. This time, however, the quaintest of smiles adorned his face... It was an unusual sight but certainly not unwelcome. And much like any doting parent, his curiosity led him to ask.
Malleus had replied with a question of his own.
"Lilia, do you know of the Prefect that resides in Ramshackle Dorm?"
"Yue? Why yes, of course. I've spoken to them once or twice. They made quite a show during the Ceremony."
Yue— Lilia soon comes to learn— is completely unaware of Malleus's identity as a prince and a figure of authority, of power. As such, they bear no fear for him, even going so far as to bestow him a pet name, of all things.
(“Nyx? As in the night spirit? How fitting.")
Thus began the pattern of Lilia covering for Malleus's nighttime absence, not daring to ask nor scold when the prince would return in strange and stranger states.
When he would return to the dormitory partially caked with dirt and mud (a consequence of helping the prefect with their little garden of life.) Or when he would return with a box of homemade cake, a pretty stone from their walks, a drawing of him supposedly made by the prefect's beast, and with inquiries of the complexities of human nature.
Sometimes, Lilia can't help but feel a bit guilty, constantly boring witness to Silver and Sebek's searches into the night.
Yet that sliver of guilt fades, in the end, when Malleus smiles more often than before, when he approaches Lilia in the winter with the request of delivering a Holiday Card.
As he watches the magicless human rush into their abode, card in hand, ghosts and Grim awaiting their entrance...
he has never felt prouder and more grateful for fate.
. . .
From a distance, Vil watches.
He watches as the feared Briar Prince lets a small, feeble human talk his ear off, calm and unresisting, a hand on his chin as he ponders along Yue's barrage of words. He gives the prefect full reign of the conversation. He lets himself be taken away by their stories and details. He lets them speak, which they do.
Just after the horrors, highs, lows, and thrills of the VDC, the two chat as if nothing even happened. The onslaught of it all feels like a fever dream to Vil. First, the mental toll of overblotting, then their loss to RSA's nursery rhyme performance, and now the shocking reveal of Yue (innocent, bold, mundane little Yue) and Malleus Draconia's relationship.
He isn't even sure what to make of it. They're clearly friends, yet Vil can't bring himself to chalk it up to just that. His years and years of showbiz cinema has taught him the ins and outs of body language. He watches. He sees:
There's the smiles on both their faces; cheeks raised taut, dimples carved with genuine laughter. There's that glimmer in Yue's eyes and the odd tenderness of Malleus's own, both gazes locked onto one another with an undisturbed focus. There's the fact that Yue had given him an invitation to the VDC, or that Malleus had fixed the stage partially to show off to the magicless human, or that their hands are currently mere centimeters away from each other.
In the end, Vil averts his gaze, weariness crashing into him all at once and he feels a pair of hands grasp onto his shoulders, keeping him standing. Rook smiles, gentle, knowing, annoying. Vil resigns to his whims and lets his Huntsman guide him back to the Pomefiore Dorm, the chatter of Yue and Malleus and everyone else fading away.

Hey ! I wanted to request a Ignihyde!Male!Reader that look like a little like Grim ? Like, they have the same ears and tail, the same fire (even if the reader controls his fire better than Grim) and people think they are from the same family/are connect ?
Just Grim and Reader looking at each other and asking to themselves if they have just meet their secret brother, and Ace, Deuce, Ortho, Idia and parental figure!Trein being confused to their friend (Grim for Adeuce, Reader for Ortho and Idia) having (a possible) brother.
(Ignore it if you don't want to write it)
Have a good day.
characters: ace, deuce, the shroud brothers and trein x male ignihyde reader
tags: platonic, fluff, imagines + scenario format; implication of yuu, mention of azul
warnings: nothing
author's notes: sorry this took a while! and that i strayed a bit again help. hope you like this <3
Tumblr media
You’re one of the only beastmen in Ignihyde - and you’re okay with that. It gets a little lonely at times but that’s nothing new for an Ignihyde student. People mind their own business, you mind yours. And the only friends you have, in this case the Shroud brothers, basically forget that you’re different from the others. Days are hardly interesting, despite the college’s many atrocities - or maybe because, and now you’re desensitized.
Until one day, you spot a creature, all feline-like and sitting on someone’s shoulder. Okay, not the weirdest thing you’ve seen at NRC so far, so you’re about to shrug it off. Then you see it; a tail and a pair of ears that are eerily similar to your own. What’s next, it can manipulate fire as freely as you do?
“Hey guys, I’ve got a new trick up my sleeve. Watch this!”
One thing you didn’t expect for it to have something in common with you is that it can talk. Though maybe you should be less surprised, considering even the paintings on the walls can talk in this place. But still. You forget that you should be expecting something from the words it just spouted and are caught off guard when it starts spewing fire next. This creature is way too talented at throwing out stuff from its mouth, you think as you jump out of the way just in time to avoid being burnt to a crisp.
“Grim, you can’t just spit fire whenever you want to! We’ve been over this!”
A redheaded student in front of you starts to scold the creature whose name is Grim apparently. He looks familiar but you can’t quite put your finger on it-
“You’re just jealous, Ace.”
Oh, you feel like Idia’s talked about this Ace person before. He described him as “crafty” and seemed to think of him as some sneaky extrovert but you’ve learnt to not put much faith in Idia’s descriptions of other people. No offense to your friend but at least he’s somewhat self-aware of how anxious he gets around others.
“I definitely am not??? This is the same thing that almost got us expelled, you know!”
You feel like you may also have heard of a group of first years almost getting expelled until they somehow got their hands on a magestone the headmage told them to get, as if you can just swing by a store and buy one. You know how hopeless Headmage Crowley and dumping a lot of work on a bunch of freshmen is in character but you can't help but feel disappointed anyway.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this but I agree. You really have to learn how to keep your pride in check…”
Another student, blue-haired and you assume is Ace’s friend, chimes in on the scolding. The student whose shoulder Grim has made himself at home only shook their head, most likely accustomed to his behavior. You watch them bicker as you ruminate on the resemblance of that strange creature to you.
After a few minutes of thinking (and walking so that you don't lose them), you decide that the fact that you were almost a victim of Grim’s flames is strong enough of an excuse to allow you to approach the friend group.
“Hey. You four.”
They turn around to notice you finally (though you can hardly blame them – save for Idia and his glow-in-the-dark-esque hair, Ignihyde students are not noticed as much). It takes them a second to realize that you're no ordinary student. When they do, their jaws fall open, letting out a wild “Huh?!”.
Grim himself jumps off the quiet student's shoulder and stands on his two feet. The day is getting crazier and crazier the longer you entertain this coincidence. He then points at you and begins his bullshit-spewing again.
“W-Who are you?! And why do you look like me?!”
You should be asking the same questions right now but the lack of answers for them makes any word on the tip of your tongue die before they can escape. Plus, the way he's saying his words sound more accusatory than you’d like to admit.
“Don’t look at me! I'm just like this!”
Grim doesn't seem satisfied by your answer and honestly, you can't blame him. You both are quite confused by what's happening at the moment. You two resort to unconsciously recreating the two-Spidermen-pointing-at-each-other meme. The other three students also seem to be at a loss from what they're witnessing.
Ace Trappola
He would laugh at Grim and point out how he's not special anymore but he's too stunned to even say anything (at least for now)
He looks you up and down again then pinches himself to make sure he’s not hallucinating
He feels like he should be less surprised and that the uncanny resemblance could just be passed off as a coincidence but he has to admit, seeing you two as not brothers may prove to be a little difficult for him
He gets used to you two over time and stops questioning it altogether. Sometimes he even forgets
At times, he’d poke fun at Grim and say how you two are way too different personality-wise to even be correlated in some way
But deep down, he’s happy for Grim he found someone similar to him
He won’t say that aloud obviously.
Deuce Spade
His eyes dart from you to Grim then you again. This goes on for a minute
He almost asks you if you can also breathe fire so recklessly
He ends up interrogating you, like a parent doing a background check on the friend you just brought home
Sooner or later, he concludes that you two are “bros”, despite not having the same feline characteristics
He’s glad Grim found his long-lost brother (he gets a smack from Grim for this)
He would notice how Grim’s smiles oftentimes are wider when you’re around, probably feeling some kind of kinship with you
And he gets that - since you all are “bros” now, he’s more than willing to have your backs now
After sorting things out with the freshmen, you return to your cave like the nerd that you are, feeling more exhausted than usual. To your surprise, you also return to two nerds being in said cave. A Shroud brothers ambush is not something that happens too often.
“Hey (Y/N). We decided that your place needs trashing. Also Ortho wants to try out this new game he found but it needs at least three players.”
Sounds about right. The geeks are geeking out as usual, just at your place this time. But you need them to hear about how crazy today was. You open your mouth to say something-
“I tried to convince him to get Azul but you know how stubborn my brother is.”
Ortho cuts you off and you force a nervous chuckle as a response. You agree but you should really get this off your chest-
“Hm? Did you guys hear something~?”
Idia teases and it brings a genuine laugh out of you and Ortho. Then you take a deep breath and release it. Third time’s the charm, right? You try again.
“Listen, you two. You wouldn’t believe what happened today.”
They perk right up at the promise of gossip (specifically, gossip related to you). You jump a bit from the excitement, finally glad you got their attention. Your hands start to gesture while you tell today’s story.
“I found this… cat. His name is Grim? He has the exact same ears and tail that I do! And he can breathe fire too! Except he does it with no regards to his surroundings whatsoever. That’s kinda concerning.”
Idia Shroud
“You saw wittle Gwimmy??? Man, I’m so jealous… I’ve been in need of some cat therapy for a while now…”
By the sound of it, he already knows who he is. You gasp dramatically at this, feeling betrayed at the fact he never told you about him
He tells you to chill and simply excuse that he didn’t think it was that important or anything
Of course, at first he was shocked but then he pondered about the coincidence - concluded that weirder things have happened and can happen
You’re unamused by this but it is very Idia. You suppose if you have a curse where it burns blot in your body nothing can really be seen as weird
Still, he entertains the possibility of you having a non-human distant cousin
If he isn’t already so nerdy, it feels like he’s growing a second brain trying to theorize what your relation to Grim is…
Ortho Shroud
Also already knows who he is. This truly is a Shroud brothers ambush… of betrayal at that
Theatrics aside, you try to pry him for further information and maybe explain how you and Grim may be related
“Sorry (Y/N), I’d love to help but Grim has been avoiding both of us for a while now. Whether that’s intentional or not, I’m not sure, but I sure wish I was with you when you ran into him. I’m sure I could’ve gotten some valuable information from him!”
You have your doubts about that.
While you keep things to yourself, Ortho provides you with Grim’s surface level information - which is basically nothing
So you two vow to get closer to Grim; even with the ulterior motive, it doesn’t hurt to have more friends Idia would beg to differ
Grim-like traits aside, it’ll be eye-opening to him to see if you two are similar in any regard at all - whether it be from your healing presence to your dazzling smile.
The next morning, you walk to your first class of the day: History of Magic. A fairly interesting class regardless of your stance on the subject. Professor Trein goes on and on about something, you write things down in your notebook. Your eyes are on Lucius for half of the class too. Your mind is still stuck on the events of yesterday. You feel like you’d be reminded of Grim any time you lay your eyes on anything feline - including yourself.
At last, class is dismissed. As much as you enjoy the class and genuinely like Professor Trein, you can’t help but feel that classes are dragged out way too much in this college. You pack up your things and you leave around the same time the professor does. So when Grim comes running and tackles you to the hallway floor, he’s there to witness it all.
“Hey twin! Wanna have lunch with us later? You’ll be seating with us cool kids!”
As you try to regain your composure over being literally knocked over and the fact that Grim has already warmed up to you, Professor Trein attempts to comprehend the scene unfolding before him.
Mozus Trein
Yes, of course he needs to scold Grim over misbehaving for the umpteenth time that week, but he’s also in awe of how… similar you and Grim look.
If he’s seen either of you before, whether in vicinity of each other or not, he’s never noticed blame it on the old grandpa eyes
People (and creatures now too, accounting for Grim’s being here) of your traits and abilities are far and few between
As much as he’d like to inquire you two on your ancestries (and their possible connection), he does respect your privacy
He always liked having you in his class but now, he finds himself looking out for you more often, a way to put his energy from his curiosity about you into something else
He’d ask you about your day and jokingly ask how your relationship with your long-lost brother is doing as if he’s not acting like a dad himself
Needless to say, he’s definitely your favorite teacher now.
You accept Grim’s offer for whatever reason and have lunch with the “cool kids”. You feel a little out of place at first, hanging out with people who aren’t the Shrouds, but then you start having lunch with them every other day. Then you start visiting Ramshackle Dorm where Grim is staying and spend time with the others there. At some point, you brought the Shrouds along and they would bring their games.
Suddenly, you know a lot of people. You think to yourself how crazy friendships start. You go from not knowing their name to knowing what they named their pet rock when they were a child. And in Grim’s case, you went from pointing at each other confusingly to pointing at each other for stealing each other’s food.
For the record, he definitely stole your pudding first.

Yuu and Grim | M. Reader as a Professor (Platonic)

----------
"Picked up another stray?"
----------
Being a teacher at a prestigious school is not easy.
Being a teacher at a school that has students going Overblot is not easy.
Being a teacher at a school isn't easy.
Being a teacher at Night Raven College is not easy.
None of it is easy! Yet why in the Seven does this kid handle them? He's a student for crying out loud!
The professor looks at Yuu and Grim for what felt like an eternity at this point. Making both of them uncomfortable. Just what is he thinking? What is Professor [Name] thinking!? They've been sitting there for so long, they could feel the atmosphere becoming thicker and thicker. Why are they even called during a teachers meeting! All eyes on them..
Soon enough, Professor [Name} spoke up "Is anyone going to adopt those traumatized children?" He didn't even wait for an answer before taking both of them with him. Yuu and Grim look at each other as the man practically dragged them out of the room and towards who knows where.
The two stepped out of the alma matter and was met by who seems to be a friend of the professor. "Oh hey [Name]--" He cut himself off the moment he saw the two students. "Another one?! Haven't you have enough strays already!?"
...
One could see the gears turning in Yuu's and Grim's head until. "HUH??!!"

Epel: .....You're smiling, what happened?
Mc/Y/N/Yuu: What? Can't I smile just because I feel like it?
Grim, popping into view: Mc/Y/N/Yuu saw Crowley falling down the stairs today.
Mc/Y/N/Yuu, chuckling: yea, and I even took a photo of the aftermath. He looked like a squashed bug.

Oi! Can you stop posting things that get stuck in my brain so often? Joking, but I mean a lot of things you bring up a lot of fun ideas in your AU that just stick in my brain. Hope I’m not bugging you too much with messages. However, you have introduced my lil emo catholic boy Rollo so I must ask: how would Rollo and Malleus (and anyone else tied to fire) deal with a fire bug?
Like not necessarily someone who starts fires, but someone who LOVES fire. Like I could stare at fires for hours. They are just so pretty and the flickering and swaying look just look amazing. Imagine all the different colors of fires! Especially when I poke it or have something like a match.
Ima go before I start ranting about fire again. Hope you’re keeping warm and have a great day! Can’t wait to see that fish prince get hit shins kicked!

Warnings: Grim and Ortho are platonic only, yanderes, yandere behavior, yandere temper, different levels of yandere, use of magic to amuse the Human, Rollo wrestling with self-loathing, Malleus is malleus,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Grim is thrilled his Hooman loves his little ear flames and will intentionally make them flare brighter when he wants more attention. Mostly he just uses his ear flames to make them smile.
- Ortho will laugh and be excited to tell the Human about the hair flame many Shinigami have, giving details while he consciously makes his hair slowly change color flame. It takes some effort, but he cycles through the visible light spectrum before he needs to take a break, his hair snap returning to the usual blue. He's happy to tell them all about it, so long as the Human will listen.
- Idia is going magenta and doesn't even know it, warm hearts forming in his long flame hair as he internally fanboys over the Human looking at him with such an interested gaze. The way they stare at the flickering light and flames as he just burns brighter. He loves it and will burn that sight into his memory.
- Papa Hades quickly picks up on the Human's interest in fire and flames, happily using his magic to create flames for them. Different shapes, colors, creatures, he is making a show of fire to marvel at and enjoy. It has been too long since he has last had an audience so enraptured and it soothes his heart.
- Rollo is struggling with himself over this. He dislikes his flame and the fire that fules his very core. Get a bit too out of hand and *poof* gone. That's how he sees it, at least. It is tragically sweet to him for the Human to adore the things he hates most about himself. Leave it to a divine Human to see the good in the wretched and sinful. He will slowly begin allowing his fire to flourish, if only for the Human's sake. He does adore them quite a bit and will willingly do what the Human wishes of him.
- Malleus loves that the Human enjoys his flames. He will show off his mastery over summoned flames and explain how they differ from Dragon-fire which he can only ever create when angry. Any time the Human wants to see his magic displayed, he will create a bright green flame for them. Eventually he will gift them a crystal containing one of his green flames, around it will spin a group of green fireflies. So they can take his flame anywhere they go and always marvel at his fire.

Stray is a fic where Yuu gets hurt in Overblots and Crewel is going a little insane because of it.
Anyway. Hypothetical + events in the bg of it as of Ch 3 (specifically in reply to a very nice very long comment by tinseltina).
If Crewel was officially ordered to take care of Yuu.
The begrudging pity-born affection would probably develop sooner. He's never going to complain or resent having to watch them when they're present or may be present because it's not their fault they were spirited away to Twisted Wonderland, but he would resent the one tasking him for this (probably Crowley). He is still in his prime, he is a bachelor and an accomplished designer and chemist, and while he can find satisfaction in being an instructor, children were never in his plans.
(Yuu is such a nice child though. Very obedient, very unobtrusive, and mature for their age. He wouldn't have to deal with the crying, clumsy mess of an infant or toddler. There is just a child, who is diligent and listens, that he's stuck watching and who's stuck keeping him company. They are grateful and calm and polite and that's not really how he expects children to be, but if he ever did have a child, Yuu would be the standard this hypothetical child would now be compared to. And if Yuu ever would cry or make a mess or be angry, they'd almost always certainly have good reason to do so. )
He would be a good guardian because to be otherwise would leave terrible rumors. He has a reputation to uphold. So he would dress them nice because he dresses himself well and he will feed them healthy, fancy homecooked meals because Yuu is not a dog and needs a human's diet and his standard for human food is what he feeds himself. Sometimes he will take them out with him for dinner because he has his habits and he is not leaving them to eat alone in his apartment. He will get them a coat when winter comes and he will scold them for forgetting theirs if they do, but he does not like wasting time so instead of telling them to grab it, he'll wrap his own fur around them even if he's only driving them to somewhere in Rose Country and they'll simply have to bear with sitting close to him so they can share it if they're heading to NRC from his apartment. He is not mothering them, what are you talking about. If he ever grows fond of their company, it was forced upon him. Humans are social animals and they are stuck together in some degree of close proximity what do you expect him to do, change his brain chemistry?
(We are going to pretend this was assigned immediately following the Entrance Ceremony (maybe Yuu shows up on Crewel doorstep with a letter from the Headmaster after he teleports them there lol), so Grim isn't in the picture. But if he was, Crewel would constantly be comparing how well-behaved Yuu is to how Grim is not).
Even so, Crewel wouldn't ever say taking Yuu in is his choice.
The moment Crewel outright says that he will take care of Yuu, that is no longer just a task or a favor or a bone he's throwing to a stray but a VOW and he will be utterly doomed.
So he won't say it. He won't even think it. He can't.
Heartshackle
Ace, Deuce, Grim, and Yuu are actually managing academics pretty well. This is because Yuu is very tired/bedridden and but constantly trying to keep up with class, and so Adeuce and Grim had to make notes to bring them notes and help explain the lessons they missed to them.
Their earlier exams come back surprisingly high. Deuce is delighted. Ace can't believe he's become such a nerd. Riddle is also helping because he can and he owes Yuu after his OB. Trey gives them warm meals and puddings sometimes because their throat is wrecked from Leona Sand and there may or may not be a Cater in the bg when Adeuce are unavailable.
So Adeuce and Grim made a different deal with Azul, and they don't have anemones because they have different terms and a different contract.
Riddle
As a kid of magical doctors, one of whom expects him to follow her path, Riddle is plagued by Yuu. Yuu is there and a medical anomaly and he has not been able to help them after Kingscholar's OB, though he should be an aspiring healer. Yuu was not entirely suffering throat pains during Crewel's attempts at making something to soothe their throat because Riddle was also offering home remedies that are safe for those without magic and doing his own research but he does not have access to all the things Crewel does as a licensed alchemist and adult.
Riddle's study guides are extended to Yuu and he delivers them to Ramshackle or the infirmary himself, and so it is not difficult for him to stumble upon a conversation among his dormmates about how Ashengrotto is supposedly able to give anything for the right price. He is in the same year as Azul, he knows of the previous year's incident, but any ire he has dulls because when he pulls Ace and Deuce aside to scold them, they are not talking about study guides.
Their grades are fine.
Yuu's voice is not.
Riddle is skeptical. You have to be, with Azul. He will not encourage them, but he has an interest in law and he can look up labor laws and hours and help them determine a reasonable schedule to propose to Ashengrotto that will allow them to perhaps survive as part-time workers and students. He can tell them to read everything and mind the terms and put an escape clause if they really need it. There are no laws against using the Heartslabyul dorm head as an alibi.
The problem is, Riddle is not someone who would be found in Mostro Lounge, and so he is not there when his freshmen make the deal and Yuu gets their voice but not a healing. A stupid mistake he could have and should have accounted for, but he can help them with the aftermath.
Jack
Jack is there because he is there in canon, but also because he was among the ones who left Yuu alone in Ramshackle when the ill-intent and magic of Leona's OB sand that was stuck in them started to do damage. He was a regular visitor in the infirmary, if no one else was there. Yuu has a little cactus in Ramshackle now. It used to be on their infirmary window, and before that, on a ledge in a Savanaclaw dorm.
Crewel is not the only one looking after Yuu in Stray, but because the fic is about him and his limited perspective as a teacher, Yuu seems so much more pitiful.
