"but they've been building up mileven for 4 seasons!" my brother in christ. el got attached to mike cause he was the first guy her age that she met after she ran away and el was the first girl who showed any signs of any kind of interest in mike and mike felt like he had to have a girlfriend or he wouldn't be "normal". hell, even ted knows mike has zero interest in girls (”our son with a girl?” ), mileven was so forced it's crazy. they were kids who kissed a WEEK after they met because they felt like they had to, at least mike did cause el didn't even understand what the fuck love is. she didn't even have time to understand herself before understanding relationships with mileven being so rushed. it was not love at first sight, mike was ready to send her back where she came from right after she took them to will. mike's life DID NOT start the day he met her in the woods, he was there to find will in the first place. and when they found "will's" body? he literally almost spat in her face screaming ”what is wrong with you?”. and now when they're older, they still don't work. they don't understand each other, they're not giving each other what they deserve, they're making each other feel like they're in a room with no exit. mileven is toxic as a couple and they're SO much better as friends. i rest my case

rewatching season one really makes me see how will's right, mike is the heart.

he's the one who insisted to look for will to hopper.

he's the one who convinced lucas, and dustin by proxy, to ignore the adults and look for will.

he is the one who brings up the fact that el is scared and hurt while lucas and dustin are yelling.

all these examples are within ep 1 and the first fourty seconds of episode two. mike was always the heart. he just lost his way after outside expectations. at the end of the day, he is the care and love and protection of the group.

of course mike is going to date el even if it doesn't make him happy. of course he's going to conform to ideals of the outside world. all he wants are for his friends to be happy, so he'll conform to the expectations of what the outside world says he should want, what his friends think he wants, what el wants. fuck, even what he thinks will wants, since the painting. he is the perfect victim for comphet, because it was never about him. it was always about his friends.

The way fans on the st sub are almost all in agreement Nancy ending up with neither Jon nor Steve wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, and how they can even come up with a sleuth of reasons as to why, honestly pretty valid and fair reasons, but then are absolutely gobsmacked when fans merely speculate something along those lines for El is, quite something.

So I was washing dishes when I had a flashback to Will's first word to Mike being "Yes" (s2 ep8), while El's is "No" (s1 ep2). The foreshadowing from the start I cannot!

Um okay so late night miwip Wednesday but it's the duziel fic today lol. I started this so long ago and this was one of the first scenes I wrote? Yeah I haven't written in a while bc I'm Stressed so have this instead of whatever recent thing I wrote

To me, the issue is simply that he doesn't love her and she knows that. As we've been told before, "El's not stupid" and being in a romantic relationship with someone who doesn't love you romantically can be bad for self esteem.

I actually don't believe she was incapable of loving herself. The "From, El" to me was her choosing to prioritize herself and not chase after Mike's love anymore.

Also, when she was with Max in S3, she seemed to love herself just fine. She was confident, happy, and stood up for herself when Mike was lying and generally being a knob.

And this didn't have to do with her superpowers at all! With Max, her powers were just an afterthought that they could use to prank bullies. Max valued and wanted to get to know the real El and encouraged her to be her own person.

I have no doubt that even without her powers, El would have been able to love herself if she stayed with Max. I doubt she'd even still be with Mike, whose only concept of her began and ended with her powers.

It's no wonder she fell back into self-loathing. Mike doesn't act like he loves her or wants to get to know her without her powers, so of course she thinks it was only her powers that made her valuable after all.

You're gonna sit there and tell me that Mike had feelings for El, yet when El was crying for reassurance that Mike loved her--

He couldn't have gotten the fck up and went over to comfort her??

This is where the "he couldn't say ily because he was afraid If he said it-" yadda, yadda, yadda, falls apart.

Even if he couldn't say the words aloud, we have seen that he is able to show his affection and love through physical touch.

(Which did wonders for Will feeling cared for and supported, btw)

Also, even if he couldn't say the words "I love you", he could have spoken softly to her, gently reassuring her of how she was special to him.

Like tbis???

Singling her out from the rest and assuring her his feelings haven't changed and home isn't home without her??

There are so many ways that conversation could've gone to make E feel loved, even if he couldn't say it. We know Mike is capable of showing it.

But he did not use his love language with El. He wouldn't even go near her to hold hands or even put an arm around her, nor did he try to say he missed her or that they were a team.

TL;DR: Mike Wheeler, I know what you are.

Mike and El making out in the first couple of episodes isn't bad news for us and is actually totally necessary, if you believe the leaks. When couples make out in this show for nearly any reason other than to officially get together or reunite, it means that the couple is trying to use physical intimacy to patch up their shaky relationship that is failing for other reasons i.e. Stancy.

But in Mike's case specifically, we have to have a scene in s5 where we are SHOWN that he is struggling in the physical intimacy aspect of his relationship with El. As in, El grabbing him and making out with him and him not touching her, only reciprocating as minimally as possible, and not letting things escalate too much. They're getting to that age and that point in their relationship where El is going to want to take things further than Mike will be comfortable with or even capable of. Particularly if they're like 16-17 this season, I wouldn't be surprised if El tried to initiate sex (they will have been dating for a couple years atp I think?) only for Mike to totally shoot down the idea or display a total lack of interest, which is going to hurt El a lot.

Before we see Mike and Will get together, we have to see the lack of physical interest Mike takes in El so that nobody will be able to say "But he loved El and Will became his love interest last minute." If he straight up doesn't want to have sex with his gf of two years then not even the cishets on reddit can deny the gay Mike Wheeler + platonic Elmike allegations. El is going to be into it and Mike is NOT going to be into it.

Yes! Not only was the monologue genuine (no one prompted Mike to say what he did + the way it was shot and acted) and he managed to get through will, but also El had just returned from meeting her "sibling" (Kali) and she was with her dad (Hopper) while closing the portal.
