Stefan Salvatore was the biggest mistake of your life. He was like a drug, a drug that you couldn’t get enough off, and when it ended, left you with a shattered heart.  He was your soulmate, your best friend and your home. You’ve known each other since birth, you knew all his stories by heart and he knew yours. But soulmates aren’t always lovers. You knew that. But every time he talked about her, you felt like your heart was about to explode. Her, Elena Gilbert. She was kind, beautiful and he loved her with every fiber in his body. Stefan loved Elena, and you loved Stefan. When you were both young, human, and he was in love with Katherine, you used to think  time wasn’t in your favor and that sooner or later he would see her true colors. But with Elena was different. She wasn’t a lying, manipulative, self centered vampire who used him and his brother. She loved him, perhaps just as much as he loved her. Just as much as you loved him.  Stefan loved you once, before Katherine, Elena and vampirism. Long ago, when he was your Stefan. The same Stefan that used to bring you flowers and help you sneak out to watch the stars. The same Stefan that called you his, that promised that you both would get married and leave that town. The same Stefan that died because of Katherine Pierce, even before vampirism. You believed that he didn’t love you anymore because of the compulsion. When he died and became a vampire, he turned you. But he wasn’t the same, and his feelings for you died with his humanity.  You were by his side. Pulling him from the edge, holding him when the guilt became too much, helping him feed. You were there. But it wasn’t enough. He liked you, sure, but he loved Katherine. And now he loves Elena. You are still by his side. After all this time, you still can’t leave him, hoping that he would realize his mistake and come back to you. You couldn’t fall in love with anyone, couldn’t move on but couldn’t leave him.   You wanted to hate him. You wanted to hate him for breaking your heart, for requesting that you stayed by his side. But you couldn’t. That’s what love does to people. It consumes them. But love isn’t fair. And every time you looked at Stefan, you think of what you could have been, what you should have been, what you would have been if you were still human. And it hurt, so you decided to hate Elena instead.

“Hating Elena won’t make it better, you know?” Damon. Perhaps the only person in the world that understood that feeling more than you. He stood by your side, while you watched the two dance, offering you a drink.  “ How do you do it? Pretend that it doesn’t bother you?” You asked, accepting the drink and looking at him. You knew how he felt, and you could tell that it hurt him as much as it hurt you.  “You’ll get used to it” He sighted. And you two stood there, watching the love of your life’s fall in love with each other.  “ It must be hard.” He said, you stared at him once again. He continued “ being friendzoned and all. You have to pretend to like him the way he likes you. When you pretend to hate, people don’t care about how you feel, so it’s way easier.” You sigh. Looking at Damon’s blue eyes, all you could see was sadness. He pretended not to care so it hurt less. But it doesn’t. You knew that feeling all too well.  Stefan had his arms wrapped around Elena while he spinned her around the ball room. He was smiling in a way that you couldn’t make him. He was happy and you couldn’t let your sadness ruin it for him. They both laugh about a comment Elena made. You wished you couldn’t hear it. You also wished you couldn’t hear Damon’s sad sigh.  Stefan’s  hand moved to Elenas  waist, you felt like you couldn’t breathe any more. Your heart broke once more. They were looking at each other with such love that it hurt. You almost forgot about the man that was by your side. If you felt bad Damon must have felt a million times worst. He lost the girl of his dreams to his brother, the person who made him the most insecure, for the second time.

You reached for his hand and surprisingly, he gave it to you. You squeezed his hand tightly, in a comforting manner, telling him that you understood. He put his arm around your shoulder, pulling you close trying to comfort you as well. In a way, his presence was already making everything better. And you stood there, comforting each other.

“Y’know, Stefan is really stupid. He never should have let you slip away.” He whispered in your ear, making you grin.

“Mhm, he is really stupid” Damon continued. “ He is so stupid that he is dancing with the wrong girl. Can you believe that? If a person that awesome was in love with me I could never let them go. “

“ Elena is really stupid too.” You said, making him smirk.

““They are both a really stupid couple” you concluded.  Damon, whose hand was still round your shoulder, grabbed your arm and spinned you around.

““Well, this is still a party and I’m really drunk so let’s dance until we can’t remember why we were sad”

““We were sad? I thought we didn’t care about them!” You joked, and Damon rolled his eyes trying to hide his smirk

You smiled, and let him spin you around. Stefan was still  the man you were in love with, but  that won’t make you and Damon have less fun.

What is your most unpopular opinion on both TVD and TO?

I love when y'all try to get me canceled.

Just joking. I'm all about honesty here, even if it is unpopular. I've talked about a lot of unpopular opinions so I'll try for ones I don't think I discuss that much. But remember, y'all asked for my most unpopular opinions, they are going to be unpopular.

I will make my normal disclaimer. This is simply a personal blog about a show that ended ten years ago. Yes, we have serious discussions, but at the end of the day, it is my opinion of my interpretation. Me not liking your favorite character/ship is not a reflection on you or your opinions. We can have civil conversations even if we disagree over opinions.

So without further ado.

My most unpopular opinion on TVD is that Delena is a bad ship and wouldn't work out in the long run. (Don't get angry, I'm tagging this appropriately. If you want to read this and have a genuine discussion, great. If not, please just scroll).

Damon was brought on the show as the main villain in season 1 and did unspeakable things to Elena and her friends. Yes, there are times we can move past this. I once said that Enzo is what they wanted Damon to be. I feel like in the later seasons they learned their mistakes and attempted to rewrite a lot of the history, but unfortunately, the history was already there. With Enzo, he did really messed up things, but his back story was directly linked to his terrible actions. Whereas Damon just did bad things because it was fun and then had a bit of a sad backstory.

Damon's issue is that he loves too deeply/obsessively. He was so obsessed with Katherine that he was willing to leave Stefan behind to become a vampire with her. He wanted to become a vampire for Katherine. He only changed his mind when he thought she was dead and then didn't want to turn with Stefan. Once he found out Katherine might be alive, he spent every second attempting to get her back. Even using Elena. He was not at all interested in Elena in Season 1, except to antagonize Stefan. He only really turns his interest on her when he loses hope of Katherine, essentially transferring his obsession.

Delena fans often say that Damon loved Elena for herself while Stefan only loved her as a human, but I disagree. Elena was most as herself as human, but once she got caught up in Damon, she began to become like Katherine. He essentially turned her into Katherine when he couldn't have Katherine.

We see repeatedly that Elena chose Stefan over Damon when she had the choice. Damon and Elena have some nice moments, but it was clearly platonic/boyfriend's brother vibes. She cared for him because Stefan did. They only get closer when Stefan is forced to leave town and Damon does everything in his power to turn Elena away from Stefan. But even after that, she was still choosing Stefan.

The sirebond was the nail in the coffin for Delena in my opinion. I may have been able to get past some things if they hadn't done that. Elena never wanted to be a vampire. She says this so many times and even talks about wanting to die rather than being a vampire. Stefan shows Elena the positives of vampirism, but somehow Damon gets credit for it because of the Whitmore House scene. I think people forget the scene immediately after she runs off the dance floor, when she disgusted by what she's done. Between the thrill of the moment and the sirebond, she acts in a way that she never wanted to and regrets it instantly. Damon showed her the parts of vampirism she feared, but because the scene is sexy people love it.

And this isn't the first time we see Damon not having respect for Elena's decisions. When he forced blood down her throat before the ceremony. Or when he yells over the phone that they shouldn't listen to her about Elijah. When he kills Aaron because 'she' broke up with him. This never gets better. The only character development we really see in Damon is when he becomes friends with Bonnie. No, I don't think it is a girlfriend's job to 'fix' their boyfriend, but they should at least bring out a good side of them. Delena brought out the worst sides in each other.

I'm honestly not even advocating for Stelena. If anything, I think Matt and Elena could have had a nice life together. Or just be a normal girl and go meet someone in college or later in life. Damon didn't want the normal human life and Elena didn't want the violent vampire life. They have so little in common, not even their morals or principals. I just found them to be a really unbelievable couple. The flirtation was more interesting to me than anything that happened after they got together.

My TO opinion: Kol is kind of a one-dimensional character and benefits very heavily from pretty-privilege. (Again, no need to read if this will just upset you)

I am talking about Nate, but I refuse to put his face on my page. But I will try and put my hate of him aside to talk about Kol.

Kol could have been a really interesting character if he was given more time and more backstory, but the show just didn't go there and left so much up to the audience to fill in the blanks.

We first meet Kol in TVD and he essentially is the Mikaelson psychotic "enforcer." He is wild and unruly, doing whatever he wants. Like targeting Matt for no reason at the Mikaelson ball when even Klaus was on his best behavior. I really feel like they made Kol the way they did to make Klaus look like the sane, practical one since Klaus was quickly becoming a fan favorite.

The storyline with the Cure was interesting, but we don't really get a lot of the backstory of how Kol knew what he knew. I would have loved some flashbacks with Kol and the witches that he supposedly learned this from. But as interesting as this storyline was, it did little to flesh out Kol as a character. He spent most of his time just trying to kill everyone to prevent Silas from being released. It would have been more impactful if they had given Kol a bigger motivation. Explained his backstory with Silas more. I left TVD not really caring if Kol came back. We got one little sad story right before he died about Klaus unfairly daggering him, but really after seeing how unhinged he was in TVD, I kind of didn't care that he was daggered. I felt worse for Finn who seemed relatively harmless.

I didn't mind Kol as a witch too much, but again, felt his character was little more than a charming rake. We knew he was only flirting with Davina initially for his mother, and I even buy his quick infatuation with her since we know he likes powerful witches, but his betrayal of Rebekah just felt impulsive and dumb. It took away from the genius witch they were trying to create. Sure he learned a lot of tricks with the dark objects from witches, but then he imprisoned his sister in an instable witch he did zero research on while his family was still in danger. It felt like he was less of a developed character and more of a plot device.

Similar to Damon, I just didn't feel like his backstory was enough to make me sympathetic. I know we are told he was daggered a lot, but we are also told that he was off on his own a lot. In the 11th century we know Kol had gone off on his own and then for much of the middle centuries he is exploring and meeting witches. The few times we see him in flashbacks, he is covered in blood, smiling at the death he created. I know people say he went off the deep end because of his loss of magic, but the show should have done a better job fleshing that story out. Really go into his spiral, because it happened very quickly. Kol was the only one reveling in killing in 1001, a year after they became vampires. This is also our first encounter with Kol as we don't see him during their human flashbacks. The only daggering we really see that felt unjust was in the 1900s when he was attempting to turn the witches against Klaus and create a weapon. But that also felt out of place in how Rebekah betrayed him but then wanted to do the same a mere year later.

The back and forth with his family also annoyed me. One moment he was building a weapon to put Klaus down and the next he was hugging him, just wanting to be a part of 'always and forever.' I understand why Davina was so annoyed by it. They attempted to garner sympathy for Kol based on how he was not part of 'always and forever' but he never really seemed to want to be. Every chance he had to leave them, he did. I don't blame him, but he can't be mad for not being included when he was always leaving. Even in 1001, Kol was the first one to suggest they split up. He and Finn left immediately after being turned and leaving Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah to clean up the mess their family made. This tracked through their 1000 years. He even parties with Klaus multiple times after being undaggered, holding it against Rebekah more than anyone. He never seemed to care for any of his siblings outside of Klaus and yet Klaus was the one harming him the most.

Like most of the characters honestly, if Kol had been played by a less attractive or charismatic person, he would have been despicable and annoying at times. I will own that he has moments of character growth in the later seasons of TO, but they all felt like they came out of nowhere since they appeared to happen off camera. Even his relationship with Hope felt strange in Season 5 when he hardly even acknowledged his niece in the previous seasons except to use her to save Davina. His character, to me, felt like it was constantly changing to fit whatever role they needed him to play so he became less of a character and more of a plot device making it hard for me to connect with him or truly understand his underlying character.

Nothing in TVDU fandom is more annoying than fake Haylijah stans who are actually Klaroline stans feeling threatened by Klayley's potential.

Like— leave Hayley's ships alone. They are like roaches, they obviously hate Hayley (or any woman that is in a "competition" with Caroline in their minds) yet they pretend to be a fan because they can't admit that they feel threatened.

This shit happens when they try to involve Delena/Stelena too. They don't give a shit about Elena or Stefan, they just ship them together because they hate to admit the fact that Caroline’s true love was Stefan. Or they use Delena as a reason why Klaroline didn't happen.

"Julie knew Klaroline would OUTSHINE delena." Shut up. Klaroline wasn't supposed to be a thing in the first place, you got more than you deserved from the writers. Delena was inevitable from the start, whether you liked it or not.

Honestly, the only good thing Julie ever did, was to keep her people pleaser ass away for a moment and NOT make Klaroline endgame, that ship had enough fan service already.

Omfg do I agree , Jesus I don't think I've ever come across a Haylijah who isn't a Klaroliner who gets absolutely defensive over them and have the "platonic soulmates☺️" bullshit under pretty much any klayley edit like please stfu or smth and leave them alone idk??

Haylijah is genuinely the blandest worst written ship in the three shows and that's genuinely the consensus amongst not even klayleys but trust me every unbiased person I've come across in this fandom who doesn't give two shits about them/Klaroline will tell you the same thing

Also how dumb do you have to be to think Julie, the biggest attention seeker who capitalized on ship wars for years only fucked over one of her popular ships out of insecurity and not the fact Klaus had no place in tvd anyway since the beginning, steroline was in the works since season 2 and the ship never made any sense anyways and was more of a "test moment" which are Candice's words herself about what happened in the writers room and how random the ship was

Like once my people here accept that Klaroline as a "relationship" never existed, Caroline spent 99% of their run hating his guts and wishing him death and Klaus didn't give a fuck about her either outside of the fun of humbling Tyler this fandom will kinda heal

People I would love to see in Stefan's life (so I could interact with them consistently):

Damon, obviously his brother, who is a huge part of his life and plays a gigantic role in who he is. They should have gotten their happy ending and I will never not be bitter about them getting fucked over in the end.

A Lexi, because I have never gotten to explore what life might have been like with her around if she had not died and I think it would be fun.

Honestly, I think Bonnie and Stefan could have been super fun. If she can become besties with Damon, I think it would be interesting to explore a friendship with her.

A Klaus, as I would love a verse where Delena becomes a thing and Stefan nopes out and goes to New Orleans (for plot reasons) and has to deal with the Mikaelson family. I have some of my own headcanons about this but it would be fun to collab!

Some fun original characters tbh...I love original characters and there is so much potential for literally everything! Romance, platonic relationships, enemies etc. I want to build a little universe with you!

Not quite sure if it's a hot take or not, but bamon remaining platonic not only made sense for the characters, it also served the narrative best. There is a bias here that I acknowledge considering I will forever and always be a delena, however, I do think that bamon becoming romantic would have been a disservice to the narrative. For starters, I'll just get it out of the way: there is no way that a writer (based on the first six seasons of tvd) could conceive a plot that would make it seem like Damon loved Bonnie as much as he loved Elena. It just wouldn't be possible as nearly everything Damon does he does for Elena; of course, there are exceptions and it's with Elena's love and compassion that he begins to do (what he sees) as the right thing by people like Stefan or Jeremy. This does not mean his love for Bonnie isn't strong or significant just because it's not the same kind of love he has for Elena. In fact, I'd argue that the importance of Damon having different loves cannot be overstated.

Bonnie does bring out the good in Damon (especially outside of his feelings for Elena), but I think attributing all of his growth solely to Bonnie is disingenuous at best. Their time in the prison world was marked by discussions of Elena, she was their tether to reality and each other until their relationship could stand on its own. Bonnie helps Damon become even more human. Without Bonnie's friendship, it's possible that Damon wouldn't have had enough human connections to have chosen to become human with Elena. However, I don't necessarily think Damon brings out anything new or interesting in Bonnie. She has always been good, but also willing to protect herself and her friends at any means necessary (even going as far as almost killing Damon in season two). He doesn't bring this side out in her, it's always been there. Even in season six, as she begins to put herself first (rightfully so), this isn't at Damon's prompting, it's because of him ALSO using her as a means to an end occasionally (this isn't to say Damon is a terrible friend--each time he's asked Bonnie for help it was for the betterment of Elena or others he cared about). As he's stated before, he's, ultimately, selfish. Throughout season six almost every conversation he has with Bonnie is to help him with something, and while he grows out of this it leaves a sour taste in my mouth for a romantic relationship between them. Bonnie deserves someone who will put her first, and that's just not Damon who canonically will never put anyone above Elena when it comes down to it.

Conversely, I /do/ think Elena and Damon bring out something new within each other. Elena, like Bonnie, is willing to sacrifice herself for her friends at the drop of a hat, but its Damon's insistence on the importance of her life that convinces her of this. Additionally, he is the only one who truly sees her and accepts her flaws and all; when she became a vampire, it was Damon who allowed her to grow and change. Even in season one, he saw how unhappy she was cheerleading and forcing herself back into the mold of her life before, and encouraged her to let that old self go. It is through Elena's love that Damon opens himself to other kinds of love. And I don't think this relationship can ever be overshadowed even with chemistry and best friendship.

So my question is about TVDU. I know that Katherine Pierce is your favorite character in TVD. I was wondering though, what is your opinion about the Originals and the Mikaelson’s.

I’ll be frank, when it comes to TVDU I’m on team Mikaelson all the way. Favorite characters of mine are Rebekah and Elijah.

But what are your opinions on the original family?

I’ll be honest as much as you’d think I’d love the original family based on my taste I’m way more invested in the OGs like Elena, Jeremy, Damon, Stefan, Bonnie, Caroline, Alaric, & even my poor girl Jenna 😭 I haven’t watched the Originals or Legacies to be honest so I’m probably missing a lot. My fave of TVD is definitely the earlier seasons if I’m being fully honest, sometimes as much as I love all the world building & new characters & stuff in theory some of the plots just got a bit.. idk.. Much for me lol. I was having the most fun when the world of vampires still felt a bit more, idk mysterious & rooted in classic horror.

As far as their appearances in TVD I liked Klaus & Rebekah the most because they’re both just so complex & their relationship itself is interesting to me as well as Klaus’s monstrosity & Rebekah’s humanity!

Thank you for the ask & sorry this is probably a disappointing answer if you’re really into the original family. I totally like them in theory & I’ve heard good things about the Originals I’ve just never gotten into it idk (to keep it real TVD is like 60% about Delena, 20% about the platonic main cast friendships & family dynamics, & 20% about the Katherine Elena Madona Whore Good & evil dichotomy specifically for me lmao)

Stefan

• My NOTP for them: I thought it was Valerie maybe Caroline but I think it's Katherine. Valerie left him but Caroline cared for him and (I'm 99.9% she didn't treat him like trash so shes good in my book but I still don't ship them.) Now I'm just gonna say this Katherine and Stefan do look chemistry together. I do believe Katherine cares for very few people and he may be one of those people. But that doesn't really excuse...she messed him up. Like bad. Like really really bad. Now I do like Katherine's personality she's pretty cool but that wasn't her best moment. I'm not Kat hater but she shouldn't have compelled and manipulated Stefan in the way she did.

• My BROTP for them: Lexi! I mean have you seen these two they're the best together (platonically of course) they bring the best out of each other. And Lexi truly cares for Stefan she's been they're for him during his blood cravings to the times he shut of his humanity. It's really hard not to love they're friendship especially since it's healthier compared to some of the other relationships in tvd.

• My OTP for them: Stelena (duh). I just find them to be adorable. And healthier than delena. *cough *cough Stefan never forced Elena to do anything and let her make her own choices. And Elena accepted Stefan for who he was and loved him even more for it especially because he was honest! And he also didn't go and kill innocent people because he was mad Elena broke up with him. Sorry for the rant! Delena lovers don't come for me!

• My second choice pairing for them: it's between Caroline and Rebekah with Stefan. As far as I know they both treated him right. Correct me if I'm wrong. As long as they cared for him that's all that matters in my book.

• My fluffy pairing for them: Still stelena because they're so adorable it makes me want to write fluffy fanfiction of them. Which I have. 15 to be exact. I find they're relationship to be very sweet and I love that they have an mutual understanding and respect of one another. I also love how they both bring the best out of each other. And they (usually) make each other very happy and that's a A+ in my book!

• My angsty pairing for them: Stefan and Katherine. I mean report to whole first paragraph it'll tell you exactly why.

• My favorite poly ship for them: I don't have any tbh.

• My weirdest pairing for them: Klaus and Stefan...? Not 100% sure tbh.

• My NOTP for them: Delena. No respect. Just some prize to be won in Damon eyes. Goes on a killing spree if she breaks up with him. Doesn't want her to make her own choices. Doesn't have regard for who Elena cares for which in the end, ends up hurting Elena. Kinda felt like he expected her to be exactly like Katherine. Sire bond. Sorry sometimes I love Damon other times I don't.

• My BROTP for them: Elena and Bonnie. Bonnie truly cares for all of her friends and it's hard not to love they're friendship especially when they stuck together through thick and thin. Bonnie is the most loyal and caring friend we need more people like her.

• My OTP for them: Stelena <3 they're so adorable like I said before! :)

• My second choice pairing for them: Elejah.

• My fluffy pairing for them: Stelena!

• My NOTP for them: Klaroline. Why? Klaus hurt her friends multiple times. But I do respect how he did change but it's kinda hard to like the ship because of all the awful things he has done to the group and others in general. I do like he changed and became better but it feels weird to me it's like delena in the way We're Elena got with Damon after all the horrible things he did. (How he treated Caroline, his brother, how he treated Andy, killed Lexi, killed their nephew, killed Countless innocents, manipulate people to get what he wanted.) Much of the fandom prefers Carenzo over Steroline while criticizing Delena over things like age and Damon's comment in 1x3. Enzo turned at 27 while Caroline turned at 17 but I haven't seen a single person call him a creep for liking her because of her age like they do Damon over liking Elena and hooking up with Caroline when they were 17 because he turned at 24. In 5x17 Enzo tells Caroline after being turned on by her threatening Sloan that she looks like a perky blonde angel and later that day hits on her and telling her modern women are all bosom (boobs) no mystery and checks her out and adds except for her which she responds to by huffing in indifference. The second comment sounds like something men are dragged for saying in real life about modern women dressing promiscuously and not leaving anything to the imagination. It makes sense for the vampires on the show to be inroduced with that mindset about women since they were born centuries ago. I preferred Carenzo as friends and I think Enzo was quick to see Caroline platonically, espcially after he heard her crying over Stefan in 5x17 and his priority was Maggie at the time anyways. Many people don't criticize Enzo's comment but criticize Damon for saying Elena looked perky in her shorts at practice even though he only looked at her eyes for a few seconds before driving away and wasn't situated in an area where he could see how perky she looked in her shorts and just said that to irritate Stefan. Also Bonnie and Elena were adults at the end of the show Caroline stans would be insulted if one said Caroline is less mature than Elena and Bonnie because she's always be physically 17 as a vampire. Frozen at 17 isn't pushed as a concept in TVD and most other vampire media except Twilight and that doesn't make anyways. There are multiple comments throughout TVD that contradict the idea that TVD vampires are younger than their actual age. Caroline tells Klaus she was a kid (17) when he met her unlike the present. Also Caroline was uncomfortable drinking at the grill in 4x9 as vampire or not she's under drinking age. Stefan openly drank at the Grill without discomfort right from season 1 while Elena was uncomfortable drinking at a bar in 1x11 and said she wasn't old enough so it's silly how his stans think Stefan's a teen.

Yeah, I feel there's a certain attitude their vampires should have because they're capable of having any woman they want via compulsion. So really.. I feel their women need to have something special about them that attracts their vampires because they can have any woman they want. I wouldn't have minded Caroline with Enzo, but I prefer Enzo with Bonnie.

Fans slam Damon for his comments, but they fail to differentiate them. Sometimes he says things he truly means, and sometimes he says things just to get under Stefan's skin. His comment about Elena in her short shorts was to get under Stefan's skin. Damon lies a lot, hides a lot, and he does it a lot longer than Stefan because it's all about the side they hide. The more they show Stefan as a ripper, the more they show Damon's human qualities... otherwise he acts a dick while Stefan acts human.

Their underage drinking depends on the environment. Elena drinks at high school parties, like the bonfire in the pilot episode. Caroline drinks at the party in 1x4, but tells Stefan to warn her if he sees her mother. Elena doesn't have a problem drinking in 1x11, she's just not used to establishments serving her because she's underage. Stefan openly drinks at social functions. He's shown drinking in public quite often in the first season.

Okay, so you guys all know I LOVE a good age gap, however, the thing is nine times out of ten when this is tagged its because canonically there isn’t one and the author has chosen to create one for whatever reason. And generally those reasons aren’t to my taste. But obviously I’m all here for Max/Michelle, Clara and the Doctor, Delena and a million other options. I’m just not big into fan created age gaps- cause they generally mean the author is enticed by the age gap itself vs. the possibility within the characters dynamic.

Codependency: 0

At the end of the day this is one of my all time favorite tropes (Psychic Twins is my favorite rnm dynamic for a reason, lol). But the tricky thing is I’ll only want to read it for a dynamic that makes sense to me personally, cause at the end of the day I want the characters to feel untouched by the author and transplanted into the fic (with allowances for au’s actively altering them in believable ways! cause I love a good twist on a characters trauma and backstory that has them acting like a changling of their original self)

Enemies to lovers: 10/10

More like “antagonism” to lovers. This is my drug of choice. Like have them spit angry words at each other and shove each other into walls, ave them snarl at the realization they wanna fuck, make those little guys squirm uncomfortably at the very premise of finding that person enticing.

Enemies With Benefits: 5/10

See above. Depends on the rest of the tags and general vibe of the fic, cause adding complicated sex rituals can elevate or ruin the dynamic.

Fake Dating/Relationship: 10/10

I will click through to the fic every. single. time. (Given it’s a pairing I’m at least intrigued by). But if for whatever reason the set up doesn’t appeal I’ll forlornly walk away. But hey! It’s like antagonism to lovers, but less “we’re arguing but now- hey, we’re close…” and more “forced intimacy and now the lines are blurred and I don’t know what’s real anymore” always a banger.

Found Family: No.

Okay, so if this is tagged and it’s not like an addition to “hey, this is a platonic work” it’s a solid-hard-forever-no. Because the author is telling me, and I get to decide what is a family.

Friends To Lovers: 5/10

Really depends on if it fits the ship and of course the other plot pieces.

Friends With Benefits: 10/10

Not gonna lie I really do like a messy/sexy situation that involves the characters spiraling about their emotions and feelings. And this trope does some of the best groundwork for that emotional atmosphere.

Hurt/Comfort: 0/10

Not generally my cup of tea, however, if it’s tied to canon events I’m intrigued, or paired with some other fun tag/idea.

Love Triangle: No.

Generally this exists with vitriol against a character (usually a woman :/ or coc) even when it doesn’t this is the least inspired way to get drama and emotion out of the characters, I no doubt already sat through it in canon, so unless there’s an endgame poly relationship tagged or it’s a pwp and a threesome it’s so far from my thing I’ll scroll right passed.

Mistaken/Hidden Identity: 9/10

I mean you don’t read Clex fic without enjoying that level of drama

Monster Fu… Relationship: 3/10

Depends on other tags/plot/character, cause I do love a good werewolf and/or vampire au (mermaids too!)

Yep! I mean I can’t fathom them not going hand in hand, imo there really can’t be a good sex scene without layers of emotion. It’s what my Demi-sexual ass is here for, seeing them be all emotionally vulnerable and compromised.

Hi!! I was wondering whether there are any ships you wanted to like and are the types of ships you normally would like in theory but which just fell disappointingly flat for you in reality?

For me, Steroline is the first example that comes to mind. I know I may be biased by the fact that Stelena was a top OTP of mine from the beginning, so it's validating that even someone meh on Stelena like you are was left cold by Steroline too!

By S5/S6, I was accepting that Stefan had to move on, and I usually love friends to lovers ships and extrovert/introvert couples, so I really tried to ship Steroline. But I swear, it's as if the writers and actors were specifically told something like "yeah, so make sure you don't show Stefan as being into Caroline much at all because we may still want to make Stelena/Klaroline and/or Forwood endgame." Their dynamic was so lopsided, with Caroline caring and trying and Stefan having to literally be convinced and pushed into dating her by other characters.

And throughout their flat and joyless ship-which only took place in between Stefan running away-Caroline seemed unhappy, Stefan seemed totally indifferent, and it feels like an understatement to say the romantic chemistry was just not there. I don't even mean sexual passion or whatever, just that feeling that yes, the audience can see and believe that these people are in love.

I get that Stefan is withdrawn and private and reserved which can make him seem detached, and I've seen people argue that he loved Caroline deeply but just didn't show it the way the much more expressive and exuberant Caroline did. I might buy that, but we SAW Stefan as an invested and in love romantic interest with Elena, and even though his tendencies to withdraw and keep things to himself were still present, no one (well, maybe hardcore Delena shippers, but almost no one!) doubted that Stefan and Elena were both genuinely in love and had a fairly balanced, mutual relationship. No amount of fan rationalization can ever convince me that Stefan loved Caroline anywhere near as much as he loved Elena, let alone more so (which many have argued), and Caroline seemed a whole lot more sparkly and enthused around Tyler and even Klaus and Matt. Thank you so much for letting me get this out--I have a new blog and no one else to talk to!! You're the best :)

I'm in full agreement with you on Steroline, nonnie. They're absolutely the type of ship I would like in theory but in reality did nothing for me. They're probably the biggest example of that to me.

Friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes, too, so normally it would be easy for me to make that leap from platonic to romantic, but I could never get on board with them as a pairing because their dynamic was so imbalanced. It always came across like Caroline was an afterthought to Stefan. And even if she wasn't an afterthought, it seemed as if she ranked lower on his list of importance compared to Damon or Elena. He did often give off an air of indifference or detachment with her, which made it hard for me to root for them. I thought she deserved better. He was always leaving Caroline to save his brother or Elena, or coming up with some excuse as to why his focus needed to be on them and not on her. That, of course, drew out Caroline's insecurities all the more, and she never seemed to be settled or secure with him as a result. And I hated that for her.
