On the 25th we celebrated the birthday of the better half of this operation, my mama, Carmen. 🎂✨💖🌸🪴🌿☀️ I’d say too bad she had to work this weekend, but she was totally in her element teaching others how to garden and grow! Thank you mom, for all that you do for me, our family, and Bluebird. Love you 😘 Here’s some photos from our House Plant Party at @fullcirclebrewingco / @fullcirclebrewerydistrict. VI Quote of the Week:
Severus black eyes looked away from Macnair's face towards the coins, counting along with him in his head. He didn't try to disguise the change in his body language that belied his eagerness for the cold touch of metal in his palm, and he unconsciously relaxed a little. The man was an ally ostensibly and he obviously wouldn't want to do anything too drastic to Severus or he'd lose his supply...but he was Macnair and Macnair was a deeply unknown quantity. The man worked with animals, which was a point against him, but the work he did was mostly execution, a point for. -- notlibatiusborage, Feeding the Addict
Admin Picks of the Week:
Despite the fact that Septimus was older than Lucius, she had always seen Lucius be amicable with them, friendly even, with an ease that Narcissa could never seem to manage herself with anyone. That sort of ease seemed to characterize many of Lucius’ relationships - a fact that Narcissa might have even been jealous of. Still, Narcissa considered Septimus a... friend-by-proxy. Certainly, they’d known each other for years. Though he mightn’t have been as familiar with Narcissa’s more... volatile side than Lucius was, Narcissa knew that Septimus likely still knew quite a bit about her. -- forever-toujourspur, Calling in a Favour
It was a hot, humid day in Hogsmeade, the air feeling soupy under a slate grey sky. Tilden Toots didn’t mind the damp weather however. He wiped a hand across his sweaty brow, unintentionally leaving a trail of soil in its wake, as he straightened up from the patch of garden he was weeding. The plants around him, a mix of magical and mundane, were certainly enjoying the moisture. The leaves on the elephant ear plant to his right were shiny and bright green, each one almost as big as the round tabletop in Tilden’s kitchen. On his other side, a long row of daylilies lined his garden fence, blooming in a kaleidoscope of colours. It might not be the ideal day for humans like himself to be outdoors, but the plants couldn’t be happier. -- plantsandpotions, In the Garden
Sitting across from Edgar, observing and listening was difficult. It wasn’t because he was itching to say something and couldn’t wait until there was an opening, rather, it made him uncomfortable. Here he was, having forced the man to put into words how he was feeling and question his competency. Now that he’d broken the defences and he had his answer, he felt like shit for having to do all of it. -- head-auror-moody, What Gnaws

//Happy Valentines Day, Kay! I'm so glad you joined the group! Your writing is always fun to read and your Lily is an absolutely wonderful addition to our cast of characters :) I especially love the way you tackle Lily's Muggle heritage and how it comes into her introspections, never shying away from her being this character caught between two worlds. I hope you have a great day!
Thank you so much, Zaz!! This was such a sweet and lovely message to find on Friday. I love the group and how welcoming and understanding you have all been; it’s been such a fantastic experience for me and I’m so glad I got to join you all here!

//Happy Heart Day, Nikki! Charity is such a fun, fascinating character and I'm so happy that you're in the group and bringing her to life! You're a fantastic writer and I love the humour and humanity you put into your prose. You're absolutely brilliant!
Zaz!!! That’s so nice of you, really, I appreciate it so much. Often I’ll be writing something and think, “No one is going to ‘get’ that joke, that’s just for me.” So it warms my heart to know that at least sometimes, it’s not just for me, and that you think so highly of me. I can’t describe to you how lovely it is to hear that.
Writing with you and your boys is so fun, and I’m really excited to get into a bit of a darker scene with Igor!! The light-hearted ones are lovely, of course, but the angst is where it’s at lol. You’re such a wonderful writer, I often spend far longer than I probably should deliberating over my replies, making them the best that I can. You inspire me to be a better writer. (I was already pretty good *hairflip* but ya know. Lol.) You and Meeve run this group so well and honestly sometimes I don’t know how you do it, y’all have the patience of saints. You’re so kind and welcoming to everyone -- you, and everyone else here, made me feel like part of the group so quickly, it really feels like a little community and I adore being here. I could just go on and on about how much I adore you and the little corner of the internet that you’ve brought to life, but I’ll spare you my sappiness....for now ;)

In Control || Tilden & Rommie || March 22nd, 1980
Date: March 22nd, 1980 Time: 10:00pm Location: Sparring Gym
One punch. A kick. Another punch. A hit. Rommie felt a thrill flow through her as she landed the blow, her knuckles sore despite the gloves she was wearing. They had been at it for an hour now and she hadn’t let up, not once.
It felt so good to punch something.
Someone, she supposed, as Tilden was opposite her, tending to his newest bruise. It’s good, he’s learning. He blocked more that time. He’s getting much better. The harder he’s pushed the faster he’ll learn. It’s good.
Taking a swig of water, she turned back towards the young man. “Ready to go again?” she asked before jumping into another fight, not giving him much more of a warning. He has to be ready for surprises. Ready for anything.
Another punch.
It felt so fucking good to punch something. She was in control here, she was winning this fight. She held the power, she knew what to do and what not to do. After the past few days of feeling hopeless lost and scared, it felt good to finally be the one in control once more, even if it was at her friend’s expense. A good kick, this brought Tilden to his knees where Rommie grabbed his arm, twisted, and slammed him to the ground.

Oh What a Tangled Web || Tilden & Evan || March 5th, 1980
“Master Evan?”
He glanced up from the potion he’d working ceaselessly on for the better part of three hours and frowned. “Yes?”
“Tolmi has fixed the required snack for Master’s visit to Mr. Toots.” The house elf held out a small basket.
Evan eyed it for a moment and then focused on the potion again. “Set it by the door.” He added another spider eye to the potion and sat back watching the churning liquid intently. He’d been so busy lately that his potion experiments had almost been waylaid entirely. He’d decided that it was time to get some new potential potions ready for his next little foray. “This needs to boil for precisely forty-nine minutes, and then I want you to adjust the temperature to soft simmer just as I’ve shown you for other potions.”
“Tolmi won’t let Master Evan down.” The house elf assured him eagerly. Evan didn’t give him tasks involving his potions very often.
Nodding he turned and moved to wash his hands, scrubbing them thoroughly not once but twice before he said over his shoulder, “What did you make?”
“Master told Tolmi something light and healthy so Tolmi made tuna fish salad with hard boiled egg and assorted crackers and cheese.”
Evan nodded, his stomach giving a healthy gurgle of appreciation. He did like tuna fish after all. Confident the elf would see to his potion, he disappeared up to his room to change out of his potion-scented clothing (any time a potion boiled over or came into contact with his clothing it was either cleaned or the item was discarded. Evan didn’t do spots and stains. Before heading out he paused in the guest room to visit his stash of memories. He needed something to satisfy the bloodlust he now had to ignore thanks to Walden’s demand that he leave the gardener alone.
He chose one of his more gruesome torture memories, losing himself in the agony and blood. When his watch started clanging in reality he withdrew and carefully packed away the little stash of horrors. By the time he left his house there was almost a spring in his step. He had originally asked for this meeting to work on some rare seed pods but now he had a secondary objective—he was going to find out who that girl had been because he had every intention of using her to torture the man he was going to see.
Twenty Minutes to 2:00 PM - Toot’s Home
Finding Toots home had been easy enough, and Evan sauntered up to the door with the kind of languid ease of a man completely at ease. There was no guilt in his manner, and any anger he had he’d stowed away, shoving it deep so that it couldn’t spoil the façade he worked constantly to present. Knocking lightly he fell back a step and waited, a small brown bag with the seeds in one hand and the basket with the afternoon’s snack in the other.
When the door opened he offered a vague smile and said, “Good afternoon Mr. Toots. I’m afraid we neither of us gave a specific time so I just came over when my potions were ready to be abandoned for a bit. I hope that’s alright.” He asked with just enough hesitation in his tone that he actually sounded concerned.
As if. Come into my parlor said the spider to the fly… Only I’m the spider Mr. Toots, and if I play my cards just right, you’ll give me everything I need to make you suffer. And he wouldn’t even have to worry about breaking his promise to Walden.
Win-win in his book.

//Hey there Carrie! Happy Valentine's Day! Your James is so cool and he's always making me laugh whenever he's on the dash! You've got a real knack for humour that I think is just perfect for the character. And then, to cap it off, you make him so believable as a caring friend and loving husband who is trying to shed the immaturity of his past to step up and face the terrors of the war as a real hero, while still being the same mischievous, fun-loving person he's always been. You're so cool!
//THERE’S JUST BEEN A LOT OF SCREAMING ON MY END SINCE I’VE READ THESE MESSAGES BECAUSE THEY’RE SO SWEET AND YOU’RE SO SWEET FOR SENDING ME ONE AND YOU’RE LOVELY AND I HOPE YOU HAVE AN AMAZING DAY AND YOUR WRITING IS LOVELY AND AHHHHHHHH

VI Quote of the Week:
Severus pointed his wand in the general direction behind him and cast a thorn growing spell. It was herbological: not his strongest suit, but he had found it in a book of curses and hoped his brown thumb couldn't follow into spell work. As whatever happened happened, he sprinted for the break in the trees that spoke of freedom and success. -- notlibatiusborage, The Stranger in the Woods
Admin Picks of the Week:
Thankfully, the smaller children were taken away, but his moment with Zane, if he ever had one, was gone. The boy seemed to do a complete reversal from looking intimidated to now looking at him with a cold look that was surprising to see on such a young face. Oh great, I’m being confronted by a child. -- head-auror-moody, What Gnaws
Swinging his arm around with as much force as he could, he transfigured as many birds as he could capture in the spell into thick, sharp darts and aimed them back at their owner. It wasn’t as well aimed as he would have liked as he hadn’t managed to transfigure all of the birds. There was still a flurry of wings obscuring his line of vision and sharp pain lacing through his arms as claws and beaks continued to tear at him. -- apromisetoeveryone, A Match Made in Hell
The truth, at least the part that people needed to know, was spoken and there was no going back from that. And Tilden also knew that Moody would do what he could to help, even if he was gruff and disappointed. It didn’t do much in the moment to soothe Tilden’s stung pride and injured feelings, but later he would think over it and tell himself it was for the best. --plantsandpotions, Speak the Truth

Sun and Sand || Daisy & Tilden || March 7th, 1980
London had been cloudy, and it was actually raining a bit here in Hogsmeade. But the forecast was happily sunny for the south-east coast of Kent. Not warm exactly— it was March— but the sun would be shining, and that was good enough for Daisy.
Smoothing her hair down a bit as she headed up Tilden’s garden path, she knocked quickly on his front door. Even though they’d been dating for over six months, now, Daisy still tended to spent quite a bit of time getting ready for her dates with Tilden, and today hadn’t really been any exception. Today, most of that time had been spent fixing her hair into French plaits, with a couple of charms woven through to hold them in place. The wind tended to be strong on the cliffs and she was not going to have it making a mess of her hair.
She leaned against the wall as she waited for Tilden, squinting up at the clouds above her. Stupid weather. Stupid rain. She drew her wand and cast a quick impervious charm on her hair. Of course it didn’t matter what the weather was like here, she reminded herself. It was more important that it be nice in Kent. She was taking Tilden to the cliffs around Dover, half an hour from where she’d grown up. The cliffs, and the beaches below, were among Daisy’s favourite places and she hoped Tilden would like them too. So the weather had to cooperate, because who liked beaches when it was miserable out?
She could hear Tilden moving around inside and grinned as she heard the door open. “I’m here before you!” she announced by way of greeting. More often than not Tilden was sitting here waiting for her— unsurprising given her habit of always running ever-so-slightly late— but today she’d been on time and she was rather proud of herself for that.

It was such a delight to be learning so many things from her new friend -- was he a friend? Could she reasonably begin to call him a friend? It was unclear to her when she'd stopped being able to tell when an acquaintance crossed that threshold into friendship. Another thing Azkaban had taken from her. On a whim, she decided he was. He didn't necessarily need to know about it, but she wanted him to be her friend, so in her mind, he was.
"Those sound lovely," she commented, referring to the flowers he was discussing. "I didn't realize blue was a bit of a rare color for flowers, but now that you mention it, I really can't think of many! It's funny how you never really think about things like that until they're pointed out, isn't it?" In fact, many of the blue flowers she could recall could very well have been enchanted. Blue was one of her favorite colors, so many of the flowers her father used to buy for her had featured the color prominently. It was entirely possible that he'd requested the shade specifically from whatever magical florist he frequented. She was almost certain daisies weren't naturally blue, but she could remember getting blue daisies from her father on more than one occasion.
"Do the Christmas cacti bloom red, pink, and white all on one plant? Or would you have to pick? Either way sounds lovely, but all three would be so interesting, I think. I think if I got those, I'd let them bloom naturally. It would be beautiful to have flowers all the time, but I think there would be something satisfying about knowing I'd taken care of it well enough for it to bloom, do you know what I mean? And it would be more of a treat -- flowers in December but not the rest of the year. I think I'd appreciate them more for it. That probably doesn't make much sense, does it?" she laughed. She also thought such beautiful things as nature shouldn't always be meddled in with magic. Sometimes, sure, if it helped the plants grow better or be healthier -- or magical plants which sometimes required magical intervention, if she remembered her Herbology lessons correctly (which wasn't a guarantee in any case) -- but for the most part, she'd prefer to let nature run its own course. All the world was beautiful for its own reason. Part of the beauty and special-ness of these Christmas cacti were their uncommon blooming season. She'd hate to interfere with that, even if they would be lovely to have all the time.
While it shouldn't have surprised her that he seemed to know every place to buy plants in Europe, it did a bit. She just couldn't fathom how he remembered the names and locations of so many specific stores! "Dogweed and Deathcap, Dogweed and Deathcap. I'll have to give them a look next time I'm in the village. I'll try to remember the others as well but I can make no promises!" She laughed again, and marveled at how lighthearted she felt. It had been a while since she felt so like herself. "I haven't looked much into Muggle gardening versus magical, is it vastly different? You're right, though, it's truly astounding what they can do without magic. There were times while I was traveling that having magic almost seemed like a handicap. I didn't know how to do some of their most basic things, and they'd give me the funniest looks about it! It definitely made me more appreciative of the culture shock Muggleborns must have when they first go to Hogwarts."
"What sorts of herbs are easy to grow? I think I've heard before that mint grows like a weed, but I don't use much mint so it might end up taking over my flat. Well, at this rate, with all your wonderful suggestions, I'll have plants taking over my flat anyway, so I guess that's alright!"

plantsandpotions replied to your post: Do you like your own name?
Be careful what you wish for, mate. You could be named Tilden Toots.
What? What’s wrong with the name Tilden Toots? I think it’s a perfectly respectable name.
