Perfect Find
Steven Grant x GN!Reader • Rating: PG •Masterlist• ao3• want to be tagged? | request info • MK Bingo 2024 Masterlist • ko-fi •
Summary: You and Steven look through the local charity shops.
🌛For @moonknight-events MK Bingo Spring 2024 Event🌜
A/N: Just some fluffy old fluff.
Warnings: swearing, set in the UK, please let me know if I've missed a warning!
Word Count: 590
You gasp excitedly as you hold up the shirt. “Steven, what about this one?”
His eyes light up when he sees it and rushes around from the other side of the clothing rail. “It’s perfect!” He touches the material lightly, it’s cotton, or at least some kind of cotton blend. Whatever it was, it doesn’t make him feel like he needs to peel his skin off after coming into contact with it.
“This charity shop has everything,” he laughs as he takes the shirt, a short sleeved button down, out of your hands and looks at the price. £6.00, not bad.
The shirt itself is a vibrant sky blue, intercut with swirls of white that in all honestly neither of you are one hundred percent sure if they are meant to be clouds or waves. Though most likely the latter considering the main pattern of the material. It is covered with swimming goldfish, all from a bird’s eye perspective.
You notice the black t-shirt slung in the crook of Steven’s arm and point to it. “Found something else?”
It takes him a moment to drag his eyes away from the goldfish before he looks up to you and smiles. “For Marc.”
You’re about to say how thoughtful that is of him, until Steven holds the t-shirt up and you can read the text on the front. ‘My depression is chronic, but this ass is iconic.’
You can’t help the sudden bout of laughter that spills from your lips. “Oh my god…”
“I know, right?” Steven gives you the biggest shit eating grin.
“He’s gonna hate that.”
“He is.” Steven says with an almost perverse glee. “Loathe it, utterly, utterly loathe it.”
You walk with Steven as he takes his purchases to the till. “Is this payback for him hiding your Hanukkah jumper?”
“Not in the slightest.” He grins. “Just part of the payback.”
You giggle.
“I’m gonna wear this t-shirt every time I know we’ve got planned switching time. See how long it takes before he notices the writing.”
“Could be a while.” You smile.
Marc was very observant when it came to outside things, other people, the landscape, he wasn’t however so concerned with what he was wearing as long as it was comfortable and fairly plain. The writing on the t-shirt was just small enough that there was a good chance he wouldn’t pay attention to it straight away. Especially if Steven put a hoodie or a plain-ish shirt over the top (unbuttoned of course).
“Oh, I intend to make sure it is.” Steven beamed as he then turned to the cashier, greeted them and paid for the shirt and t-shirt.
You absentmindedly touch the t-shirt as you put it into your canvas bag and sling it over your arm. It’s soft, comfortable. And you smile. You know, just as Steven does, that deep, deep, deep down, Marc will quite like the t-shirt.
He’ll grumble a little of course, probably give you both a playful roll of his eyes and tut. But he won’t take it off. He won’t throw it away.
You’ll find him wearing it of his own free will in bed, and on lazy mornings in the flat. And even outside when the urge takes him.
“I can carry those, love.” Steven smiles at you as you carry the bag, but you shake your head.
“It’s fine.”
He tuts, a sound that is so different to Marc, and kisses your cheek as you both head outside into the high street and the next charity shop.

Touchdown - Chapter 16.
Pairing Travis Kelce x Reader
Words 1776
Warnings Nothing, a teeny bit fluffy and a teeny bit angsty.
CHAPTER 15.
CHAPTER 16.
You took one final look at yourself in the mirror. You weren’t expecting to be doing any work whilst you were in Missouri so you had to come up with an outfit with what you had brought. Luckily, you had a pair of skinny jeans and a blazer.
“I don’t have a blouse or a shirt that looks right though!” You whined.
“Hold on, baby.”
Travis made his way to his closet before emerging with a plain white t-shirt. You narrowed your eyes when you took it from him.
“Tuck it in, it’ll be smart casual, but cool.”
You looked at him with apprehension before throwing it over your head and pushing the fabric under the waistband over your jeans. It was a little big for you but when you stepped back to view yourself in the mirror, you smiled at your reflection.
“Your Mom is right; you are a fashionista.”
Travis shot you a confused look.
“What? I listened to a bit of your podcast. I had to do my research on you.”
Travis let out a laugh before embracing you from behind, his face lowered so it was pressed to yours, “You look awesome, baby. You wanna ride with me to Arrowhead?”
You craned your neck to kiss his cheek, “No, it’s okay. I should probably get a cab; I can’t run the risk anyone suspecting anything. Thank you though.”
“No sweat.” He moved to the bed to pick up his bag, “I’ve reminded the guys, well, the ones that know. It’ll be fine, baby.”
You turned around and smiled, “I know. I’m looking forward to watching you practice. You’d better put on a good show for me.” You winked.
“I always do.”
______________________________________________________________
The Chiefs’ stadium was an impressive size with a vast car park surrounding it. It was relatively empty today, aside from a couple of dozen or so vehicles parked right by the front door.
“Y/N? Hi.”
A voice echoed from the entrance. As you turned your head to follow the sound, your eyes landed on a blonde woman holding some files. Her hair was long and straight, with one side pinned back and she was dressed in a red blouse and black trousers. She seemed friendly and she shook your hand as you approached her.
“It’s so nice to have you here.”
“Thank you, Carrie.”
“Come on, I’ll take you inside, the team are just starting.”
You followed her inside the building, numerous doors and corridors passing you as the sounds of men shouting grew louder in your ear. As you emerged onto the field, your eyes widened.
“Wow, this is huge!”
“Yeah, it’s slightly bigger than your football fields back in the UK. But I think we have bigger stadiums in general.”
Carrie showed you to some seats at the side-lines and gave you a brief rundown of a standard practice session, handing you your visitors badge and some press information in a file.
“You can take as many pictures now as you want. Players won’t tend to give any interviews here but you may get to speak to Andy Reid if you ask nicely. I’ll be sticking around for a bit so feel free to ask me anything.”
“That’s great, thank you for this Carrie.” You grabbed your phone from your bag and began snapping, “I’m still quite new to this.”
She waved her hand, “Oh, don’t worry about it, we all start somewhere.”
You stood up and took a couple of steps to get closer to the action. As you did, Travis ran past you, almost knocking you over. You jumped back, whilst your gaze followed him.
“Oh, watch out! They don’t care where anyone is, they’ll just run right into you. Travis is pretty cool though, there’s worse people to be knocked over by.” She wiggled her eyebrows, “But you’ll know that, right?”
Your mouth dropped open slightly. “Sorry?”
“US Weekly? I saw you guys got pretty close after the game at Wembley?”
You could feel your cheeks burning, “Oh no, we just chatted a bit. You know what paparazzi can be like, they made something out of nothing.”
One of her perfectly groomed eyebrows was raised high, “So, you’re telling me that there’s an article in US Weekly of you two cosying up and then magically a couple of weeks later, you just happen to be in Kansas City? You’re telling me that that’s all just a massive coincidence?”
You blinked and cleared your throat, “Yeah. Weird, isn’t it?”
She narrowed her eyes a little, “Sure.”
You turned back to face the field, hiding any further redness across your cheeks. Carrie’s comment made you avoid all further eye contact with Travis and you made a mental note to yourself to keep any topics of conversation away from him.
“Although, I must say, fans are suspecting that you two are a couple?” She questioned from behind you, “But if you say there’s nothing in the rumours, I might ask him out myself. He is absolutely gorgeous.”
You felt a knot of jealousy form in the pit of your stomach as you continued to take photos of the practice, focusing mainly on Patrick, who noticed and gave you a wave.
“I’ve heard he’s really romantic. He brought his ex-girlfriend to one of our Chiefs thanksgiving parties and man, he was all over her. Couldn’t keep his hands off her, bringing her champagne, opening doors for her. She was stunning, honestly the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.”
The knot tightened and a burning sensation rose in your throat. You weren’t sure if she was genuinely making conversation, or trying to get a reaction from you. Your hands began to shake and your palms were becoming clammy. Taking a deep breath, you turned around to face Carrie.
She leaned forward and whispered, “I think he’d be amazing in bed.”
Your eyes widened, “I’m sorry Carrie, but I think this discussion is highly unprofessional.”
“I’m sensing some jealousy.” She paused before her mouth twisted, “I was right, wasn’t I?”
You stared forward, unsure of what to say, your chest rising and falling with your panicked breathing, “No, it’s not like that.”
Carrie jumped up from her seat and stood next to you, looking at Travis, “Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. We wouldn’t want you to lose your job now, would we? Over a silly little crush? Besides, you live so far away, it wouldn’t really work. I’ll not say anything.”
You looked at her and forced a smile, “No, you’re right. Thank you.” You said plainly.
Your blood felt like it was boiling in your chest, rising up to your ears. You took a deep breath and began to walk to another area of the field for another angle. Your feet hit the grass with loud thuds. You could feel a lump forming in your throat but you swallowed it down to continue with your task. Andy Reid remembered you from Wembley and gladly gave you a brief interview detailing how practice was going so far. You smiled kindly and he posed for photograph with you for a social media post you were putting together.
Practice wrapped up soon after so you waited near the locker rooms in the hopes of catching Travis. He pointed his finger towards you and tipped his head in confusion when he saw you.
“Oh hey? Y/N, is it?”
“Ha ha, very funny.”
He smiled at you, “What’s up?”
You took his hands in yours and pulled him around the corner, making sure no one saw you, “That Carrie girl, she said some things that have shaken me up if I’m honest.”
He lowered his eyebrows, “What do you mean?”
“She…kept bugging me. Asking me if we were together so I played dumb but then she started talking about how hot you are and wondering if you were good in bed.”
“You told her yes, right?”
“Travis, I’m being serious. I couldn’t keep my face straight…she knows. And now I’m worried she’s going to tell someone.”
“Baby-“
“Oh! And that’s not it. I’m almost certain she has a thing for you. She basically told me that this…” You moved your finger between the two of you, “…is nothing but a silly crush and it won’t last.”
Travis looked at you, your breathing erratic and your forehead creased in worry, “Baby.” He repeated, “Stop. You have nothing to worry about. She’s no one important. It’s just you and me, okay?”
You stared up into his eyes, willing the tears not to pour down your face, “God, I swear I’m not crazy.”
“Shh, shh it’s okay.” He held your face with his hands, “Baby…listen to me. It’s all going to be fine.”
You relaxed instantly into his touch, your breathing returning to normal. He kissed your forehead, an action which you had grown to love. He made you feel safe, protected and cared for.
“Hey, I’m finished here now, let’s quickly get you to the car and we can get outta here?”
You nodded silently and followed him through the building. You hung onto his arm as he paced through the corridors and out of a side door leading to the car park. He opened the car door for you and you slid onto the seat, holding your bag on your knees. The car was silent as Travis got into the car and drove out onto the highway.
After a moment of quiet, you fidgeted with the handle on your handbag, “I’m sorry about all of this. I really am. You don’t deserve all of this stress.”
Travis quickly turned his head back and forth between you and the road, “Y/N, it’s no stress on me. I just want to make sure you’re alright.” He reached out and took your hand in his, rubbing circles into your skin. “Listen, I don’t know what you wanted to do tonight but me and Jason need to record our podcast and afterwards I was wondering if you wanted to get in on the video chat? I really want him to meet you.”
He turned to you with a nervous expression, almost pleading. You knew how much Travis’ family meant to him so for him to want to introduce you to his brother was a huge step. Your stomach fluttered with excitement.
“Are you sure?”
“Baby, I wouldn’t have asked if I wasn’t. But I don’t want you to do anything you’re not comfortable with?”
You pressed your lips into a smile, “You are so sweet.”
He looked at the road ahead, smiling, “Is that a yes?”
You placed your hand on his thigh, “Yes, of course!”

HD-Wireless 2024 Rec: Too Good At Raising Hell by Anon
Yes, I'm still around but barely these days. However, I had to pop-in and rec this fic! Too Good At Raising Hell by Anon written for @hd-wireless had me with the Author's notes of: Well, this was a fucking blast! I knew exactly what kind of fic I wanted to write the second I heard this song. I was hungry for an action-packed Drarry where everyone is a little unhinged, a little wild, a little messy. A story about love in the moments between madness.
Needless to say, the author delivered and then some in 87.6K words.
Here's the summary: When Harry Potter walks into Draco’s nightclub looking like trouble, Draco can’t stop staring. He really ought to train his dick not to react so enthusiastically to red flags, but where would be the fun in that?
The premise of the fic is that Draco owns a nightclub but the owner of the building is the underground boss of the wizard world in the UK. The boss's twin brother used to own the club but is in Azkaban and is not happy with Draco. He used to be Draco's dealer. Now Draco is drug-free and running his reporter-banned nightclub. He's skimming profits off the top to one day buyout the building from the big boss and be done with the shady business (he's laundering money for him). But after a few years, he's bored despite the pretty boys on his lap and the best liquors he drinks nightly. He's bored until Greg, his head security guy, bops in and says that the reclusive BAMF Harry Potter has made an entrance. That's all I'm telling about the plot. LOL Just buckle up and go for the ride of your life.
The action writing for the fight and flight scenes is some of the best I've ever read in Drarry fanfic (and I've been around a very long time). Both Harry and Draco are on the morally grey side and its all messy and wonderful. However, the plot is not messy but is tight and will have you guessing. Believe me I was hitting that Next Chapter until wee in the morning. The sex scenes are beyond hot and a bit lovely with moments of intimacy. The ending is divine. Greg and Blaise are both featured, too.
Excerpt from Chapter 1:
“It’s Potter.” Draco’s heart rate tripled. “No!” he gasped. “He’s here?” “Just through security. Heading for the bar.” Draco released an undignified exclamation of excitement and punched Greg in his meaty arm. “This ought to be good.” He pushed past Greg, straightening his trousers and the drape of his shirt with a swipe of his hand. He fished his wand from his pocket to mutter a spell at the mess left by Ethan’s rutting before leaning over the railing, looking down on the pulsing club below. The tightly packed bodies on the dance floor writhed and swayed, bathed in the colourful, ever-changing lights. There was more skin on display than clothing—beautiful people as far as the eye could see, but Draco had no trouble skipping across the sea of strangers to find him. And there he was, just as Greg promised, huddled next to two other blokes by the bar, a shot in one hand and a pint in the other. Harry Potter. Draco’s hands tightened on the railing as he bit down on a grin. It was like glimpsing a unicorn, right here in the middle of Draco’s club! Potter sightings were rare. The Prophet threw around words like ‘recluse,’ and ‘hermit,’ and ‘severely antisocial’, but Draco often wondered if Potter hid in plain sight. To anyone else, he was easy to look past. He didn’t stand out; his face obscured by dark-rimmed glasses and an overlong mop of jet-black hair. He wore clothing in neutral colours with no noticeable style beyond their function and there was nothing significant about his stature—neither tall nor short, not skinny nor particularly broad. One might call him wiry, his t-shirt stretching across his shoulders and skimming his waist, belying a promise of muscle definition. Or maybe that was just Draco’s wishful thinking. He didn’t stand proudly as one might expect, instead curling in on himself, head down and shoulders rounded, his chin tipped to one side, watching the crowd with a crooked half smile. Oh, but those fucking dimples. Draco groaned, fourteen years old all over again.

Quick and simple t-shirt mod
My Subspecies shirt arrived, and thankfully its a good quality one, not a dropshipper or an Ali Express resell. It actually despatched from the UK in spite of the pricing being in dollars, so I think it might be print to order and they just send the order to a printer in whatever country the customer is in. Link for the site here, they have a few other horror shirts but seem to mostly sell merch for the Australian extreme metal band, Portal - I would highly recommend this band to anyone who likes bizarre, avant-garde, experimental or just fucking weird extreme music.
Anyway, I almost always mod my shirts to make them a little more interesting. I crop them because although I'm pretty slim I have hyperlordosis (a slight inward spinal curvature) that makes certain clothing including long shirts look really unflattering on me. If I crop a shirt to my natural waist it looks way better, though sometimes if the design is large I have to make a decision between losing part of it, or having it look unflattering. Not a problem with this one thankfully, the design is printed pretty high on the shirt.
I also usually cut out the neck and cut the sleeves off. Partially to show more of my tattoos but also because I prefer the way it looks. If I leave the sleeves on it, it tends to be a skinny-fit shirt.
After that I would usually cut and weave the sides or the back (there are many tutorials for different ways to do this online), but for this shirt I had the idea to add eyelets and laces. The shoulder stitching tends to come undone when you cut out the neck and sleeves of a t shirt so I needed some way of securing that part back together anyway, and they're nice and visible there.
Eyelets are cheap, and inserting them is super easy - just make a hole with something sharp. Though I have a leather punch, for this kind of thin stretchy fabric I usually use my scratch awl, but you can easily do it with scissors. Eyelets come in a pack with a tool for setting them in place, and you need a hammer to hit them a few times. Make sure you're on a very sturdy surface as you need plenty of resistance to get them nice and secure. A concrete floor is best.
I just folded the fabric in half to get the middle ones in the right spot but you can measure the spacing if you have more to put in.
I had boot laces to hand because I always save them if I get rid of a pair of old boots, but you could use pretty much anything you have available- ribbon, lace, even long strips of the t shirt fabric that you cut off.
I laced them up, tied them very tightly and then covered the knots in fabric glue to make sure they don't come undone. Then I trimmed them to the right length, and as they're synthetic (so, plastic) I used a lighter to melt the ends slightly to make sure they won't fray.
I had the bright idea to also singe the knots, forgetting of course that the glue would be flammable so the whole knot caught fire, but thankfully I reacted quick and blew it out straight away! At least they're very unlikely to come undone now, but please be extremely careful if you choose to do anything involving a naked flame!
I was going to add more eyelets down the sides to make it tighter, but I don't have enough left, and actually it's fairly tight already. I also may do something to the back as there's no print there and it looks a little plain, but for now I'm very happy with this.

i really hope that in the inheritance we don't just get rob in that baggy jumper and a coat, even though it is cold in the UK (despite it being a heatwave atm) there's a bit in the scene where rob is at the bar talking to a man about needing to borrow some extra money for his restaurant, and there's a bit where rob is standing, idk if it's just the jumper contributing, but his belly underneath makes me want to rip that jumper of and have him in a t-shirt
I had a funny feeling when I saw the original filming pictures that he was going to predominately be in layers during the show tbh. 🙃 But. The good news is that at least he isn't wearing a green suit and questionable tie throughout most of it like past characters. *cough*martinevershed*cough* (no offense to people who love that suit 😂)
I'm not a fan of The Coat™ but I do adore that man's belly, it's precious, and in a cozy sweater? 🥺🥺 As much as I'd love a plain white tee or something like that, I'll never object to a cozy, fuzzy, soft man either.

'The cast of Oppenheimer laughed and joked with one another at the UK premiere for the film – moments before walking out on strike.
Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr and more hit central London on Thursday night for the star-studded European premiere of the eagerly-anticipated film.
However in a shock move, each of the stars left halfway through as the actors’ strike was officially confirmed, with talks breaking down after weeks.
Director Christopher Nolan told the cinema’s audience the actors had left after the red carpet, ‘to write their picket signs for what we believe to be an imminent strike by Sag, joining one of my guilds, the Writers Guild, in the struggle for fair wages for working members of the unions, and we support them.’
Fans had indeed seen the A-listers on the red carpet just moments before, with the cast looking absolutely stunning – and appearing in majorly high spirits – before joining the picket line.
Emily and Florence shared a cuddle and a laugh on the carpet, clinging on to each other in a fit of giggles, with Florence’s hands around Emily’s waist.
Emily was later snapped with leading man Cillian, looking mock-serious as he offered a smile to cameras, her arm over his shoulder and his hand on her waist.
The cast appeared relaxed and happy as they posed together, with the imminent strike seemingly far from their minds, as in one photo they were all caught mid-laugh.
RDJ in particular was seen messing around with fans and for the cameras, giving thumbs up, grinning and almost dancing around the red carpet.
Florence looked absolutely divine in a flowing red dress, eerily blending in with the poster of the film showing a devastating explosion, as striking as ever with her shorn blonde hair and dark eye makeup.
A Quiet Place star Emily oozed glamour in a black dress pointedly cut out to show off her body, her legs visible through black tassels from her thighs to her feet, and matched with open-toed heels.
Cillian donned a smart black suit, with the black shirt semi-sheer, while Matt too opted for a well-cut black suit and plain white t-shirt underneath.
Given the stars’ demeanour on the carpet, excited fans watching on would never have expected they were about to cut the night short in solidarity with other strikers.
However both Matt and Emily had confirmed during the walk on the carpet that they intended to do just that if it came to it.
Matt told Variety: ‘Look, if it’s called now, everyone’s going to walk obviously in solidarity.
‘Once the strike is officially called, [we’re walking].
Emily shared the sentiment to Deadline, saying: ‘‘I hope everyone makes a fair deal, and we are here to celebrate this movie. And if they call it, we’ll be leaving together as cast in unity with everyone.
‘We are gonna have to. We are gonna have to. We will see what happens. Right now it’s the joy to be together.’
Their exit comes as US union Sag-Aftra confirmed its first major members strike in more than 40 years.
The US union and Hollywood studios failed to reach an agreement after more than four weeks of negotiations, with actors wanting better pay and increased safeguarding around artificial intelligence (AI) rights among their demands.
The union directed all its members to immediately stop working on all scripted film and TV around the world.
It is now anticipated the strike will affect upcoming award shows, premieres, events, and film festivals around the world, including the Toronto and Venice film festivals, and the 75th Emmys.
The likes of Doctor Who, Emily in Paris, House of the Dragon, The White Lotus, and more huge 2023/2024 projects are also likely to be impacted.'

Inside Babymetal's ambitious new chapter: "there have been times I felt unsure if I could continue"
Clap-clap, clap-clap-clap, clap-clap-clap-clap, “Yon yon!” Clap-clap, clap-clap-clap, clap-clap-clap-clap, “Yon yon!” The chant fills the thick air of the windowless, wood-panelled restaurant as 130 Babymetal fans at an aftershow party raise their glasses and cheer. Some have painted their faces white like Babymetal’s backing musicians, the Kami Band, and many sport official merch or custom t-shirts. All are ecstatic.
Metal Hammer are in Chiba prefecture, 30 miles east of Tokyo. It’s Sunday January 29, 2023 and we’ve just witnessed the second of two consecutive Babymetal shows at the Makuhari Messe convention centre in the company of 15,000 other fans. As with every Babymetal gig we’ve seen, they were loud, colourful and unlike anything else out there.
Yet until recently, there was no certainty that a Babymetal performance, or a party like this, would ever happen again. On October 10, 2021 (10/10/2021), following a 10-date series of shows to celebrate 10 years of Babymetal, a mysterious announcement online proclaimed the band had been ‘sealed’. No one knew when or whether they’d return.
Then, exactly a year and a day later, there was another announcement: ‘the seal would finally be lifted’ with a ‘two-day performance’ called Babymetal Returns – The Other One. A concept album, also called The Other One, would follow. Back at the gathering, superfan Susumu – more on him later – says he felt conflicted about the news.
“I had a mixture of anxiety and anticipation,” he remembers. “Is the Kami Band alive and well? Could they possibly become virtual or a backing track? But on the other hand, I was hopeful that I would be able to see their amazing performance again and experience Babymetal live with my whole body.”
Later, Babymetal co-vocalist Moametal will explain the reasons behind the duo’s hiatus to Metal Hammer. “It’s been 10 years of purely pushing forward and not looking back in order to achieve Metal Resistance,” she will say. “Taking a breather allowed me to take a step back and really appreciate how much love I have for Babymetal. So, I truly hope our fans understand that being sealed was an essential time for us.”
Still, other questions remain: What’s the story behind their new album? Will they ever bring in a permanent third member to replace the much-missed Yui, who departed in 2018? And what does their future hold? We’ve come to Tokyo for answers.
Twenty-four hours earlier, we arrive at concrete behemoth Makuhari Messe for show one. In the foyer is a monument bearing the handprints of the wrestling and fencing athletes who won gold medals here during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. With his pink hair, matching pink t-shirt emblazoned with the words ‘Funky Metal Babys’ and oversized yellow glasses, Babymetal fan Kenji resembles 90s UK personality Timmy Mallet. He’s been to more than 20 Babymetal shows. But for his Sanrio rabbit puppet My Melody, it’s the first one.
Near some lockers, a posse dressed like the Kami Band amasses, in full facepaint and white robes. By a bank of vending machines, we get talking to Uyumetal, who’s wearing cute black satin bows in her hair and sings in tribute band Dizzymetal, which formed in 2015. Why the name Dizzymetal? “We love alcohol! Good songs and drinks make us dizzy!” She laughs and waves her arms around her head, to illustrate her point.
What does she think will happen tonight? “A big bang! Ha ha ha! Moametal, Su-metal… big bang!” At the guestlist desk, we’re handed a grey and black ‘Savior Mask’ to slip over our plain one. Currently in Japan, masks must be worn when you’re within two metres of someone else, even outside. The good news is that, just yesterday, the government lifted restrictions on concerts, meaning people are now allowed to shout loudly.
An usher hurries us to our seat, and we watch messages loop on the big screens in each corner of the room. They include: ‘Please wear your Savior Mask at all times’, ‘No smart phones’ and ‘No banners’ – each accompanied by a cute skeleton illustration. The most entertaining ones are ‘No other nuisances’, alongside an image of two side-by-side skeletons getting clonked on the head by a crowd surfer, and ‘No big head costumes’, showing a skeleton wearing an oversized Fox God head.
At 6.10pm, the lights go out. A video message plays, accompanied by a voiceover: “The time has come for us to unify our voices once again,” it declares. “The Fox Gate is where a new journey begins.”
Ten figures robed in black march slowly down a central aisle, bathed in blue light, to the suspenseful intro of Metal Kingdom – the first track on The Other One. Each bears a golden staff that looks like an upside-down pair of scissors, two large Os sticking out the top to represent the album title.
At the head of the aisle, lights illuminate two enormous, stone-grey doors with fox heads carved into them, eyes glowing red. The doors part, and a platform wreathed in dry ice slides out to reveal three ornate thrones: Su-metal sits in the middle, Moametal is to her left… and the other throne is empty.
Moametal walks down the aisle while Su-metal starts to sing, and then she turns to face her bandmate. They end up on either side of a round stage in the middle of the walkway, sweeping and raising intricate tridents, before stepping forwards. Their podium rises. Firework showers detonate along the length of the gangway, causing a ripple of awe. Uyu-metal was right!
Since Yui left the band, Su and Moa have appeared with one of a revolving cast of dancers, dubbed ‘The Avengers’. This time they’re joined by Momoko, formerly of Babymetal’s previous band, Sakura Gakuin. The trio run through Divine Attack - Shingeki – The Other One’s second song – on the round stage, which by this point has moved to the other end of the venue, in front of another static stage featuring the Kami Band. Still with us?
During Pa Pa Ya!!, red and orange lights flash as pyro explodes, while the crowd whirl souvenir scarves above their heads like a Japanese version of Skindred’s Newport Helicopter. New Bring Me-inflected song Monochrome begins with a round of gunfire drumming, and the girls are thrown into dramatic light and shade. “Take your phone out!” yells Su. “Turn on your light!” The sight is breathtaking.
But the most WTF moment comes during upbeat 2013 classic Doki Doki * Morning. Before the song, the words ‘The Other One. In The Metalverse Of Madness’ flash onto screens in the Marvel font. A voiceover says that beyond the Fox Gate, there is a world we can’t even imagine. A parallel world, in which there exists a lifeform beyond comprehension – but are they a threat, or are they a friend? The gate of the new world is about to open…
The girls begin on the round stage, in front of the Kami Band – who, despite being out of the spotlight tonight, are Slipknot levels of thunderous. It glides towards the middle of the room – and then, another round stage sails up to meet it. Another round stage with another Babymetal on it, dressed in the red-and-black colour scheme of their earlier days. They mirror each other’s dancing, collapsing in a heap at the end. It is truly surreal. Then they disappear, as if they were never there.
There’s one more surprise. After closer The Legend, the Kami Band vanish. In near darkness, on opposite sides of the stage, Su and Moa ascend a flight of stairs, red horizontal strip lights appearing with every step. They pause in front of neon white coffin outlines, and a booming noise rings out like an advert for Dolby surround sound. The lights come up. It’s only 7.30pm, but it feels like we’ve been inside their Metalverse for hours.
The next afternoon, several hundred Babymetal fans assemble for a group photo on a staircase outside Makuhari Messe. Tipped off by a Tweet from ChiyoMetal, owner of a Fox God-themed bar in Tokyo’s bustling Shinjuku, we’ve come to take a look.
One of the fans on the staircase is Ukky, an engineer from Kawasaki, an hour and a half away. Ukky has been a Babymetal fan “for about five or six years”. He’s wearing a new Babymetal hoodie and holding a purple puppet of the Kami Band’s Ohmura Takayoshi. Impressively, it plays a pink guitar. It turns out he built it himself. “This took about a month to make,” he says with a smile. “First I bought a book about how to make a puppet, and then I made the guitar with a 3D printer.”
Ukky is part of a Facebook group called Bokuchi-kai. They’re having an aftershow meet-up at a nearby izakaya – a type of informal restaurant, where groups of friends or colleagues meet to let loose – but he can’t attend, because he has to get home to his family. Can we go to the meet-up? He smiles and says he thinks it’ll be OK, but he’ll have to ask his Leader. We exchange email addresses, and he takes a selfie with us as proof of identity. Then, we wait.
At 5pm, show two begins. This time, we notice more details. The new songs are mid-paced and mature, with choreography to match – there’s a greater emphasis on hand gestures, rather than frantic jumps or exaggerated facial expressions, making the likes of Gimme Chocolate!! seem sweetly ironic. It’s not surprising, given Su is now 25 and Moa is 23. Later, Su will tell us that Divine Attack - Shingeki is the first song she’s written lyrics for.
“From here, a new journey begins once again. It is a song about our determination to pave another path,” she will say mysteriously. The audience are rowdier, too, perhaps now accustomed to shouting behind their masks.
Although there’s a special ‘Silent Mosh’sh Pit’ area for people who have children or just don’t want to get pushed around, the regular pit goes off for Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! with its ‘dogeza headbanging’, where people fall to their knees and bow.
It’s pretty much the same show as last night, but, because this is Babymetal, there’s one final reveal. Fox Day – April 1 – will bring a new stage for Babymetal, “together with a departure into a new world”.
Two more shows are announced, for April 1 and 2 at Yokohama’s Pia Arena. Then, Su-metal and Moametal advance to their coffins like before. But this time, a third coffin appears in the middle, together with an unknown third person, their back to the audience. The atmosphere is electric.
The venue is emptying, and from backstage we can hear Bury Tomorrow’s Earthbound blasting over the PA. A rep from Amuse, Babymetal’s management company, appears with Su and Moa. They are still in their costumes, their holographic neck-pieces shining brightly under the harsh lighting. We congratulate them on the shows – so much energy! – and they say ‘thank you’, eyes smiling above white masks.
The Amuse rep asks if we noticed anything different about tonight’s show. Yes, we say – there was a third coffin! And a third member! But who is it? “Only the Fox God knows!” they giggle in unison. Well, it was worth a shot… We ask about the hiatus. The band were only gone for a year, and during that time, they obviously worked on fourth album The Other One. Yet, with a question mark hanging over their future, it felt like much longer for fans. Was there any doubt about the band continuing?
“I love Babymetal. I love our team, I love our fans more than anything, and everyone at Metal Hammer,” says Moa. “But to be honest, there have been times when I felt unsure if I could continue or not. Words or attitude without any love will hurt people. There were times when no matter how much I put into performing, I felt as if I was not loved.
“At that moment in time, someone at Metal Hammer said, ‘Your dancing is incredible! I can’t imagine Babymetal without the dance component!’ I felt so happy to hear and Su-metal and Moametal perform with Momoko – one of their ‘Avengers’ realise that people notice my dancing. Being commended is always a great feeling, and as I’m saying this, I realise I’m so basic, aren’t I? Ha ha!”
We ask for more details about why she felt she wasn’t loved, but none are forthcoming – though when musicians express sentiments like this, it’s often related to unkind commentators online. Moving on to The Other One, we try to uncover more about the concept.
“It’s about Babymetal’s other story in which 10 parallel worlds were discovered,” says Su. “All 10 tracks are based on myths, and each track represents a myth.”
The myths are drawn from many countries, not just Japan, and the 10 worlds are called Cavalry, Illusions, Coffin, Inverted Mirror Reflection, Monochrome, Smoke, Light And Darkness, Transition, Mirror and Throne.
In October 2021, back when the band was ‘sealed’, a new piece of merch called Black Box was released, featuring postcards of the band depicted in these parallel worlds, plus online access to snippets of unreleased music. These snippets were then ‘restored’ to become the songs on The Other One. No doubt we’ll spend hours trying to make sense of the concept.
“It’s a bit difficult, isn’t it?” smiles Moa. “To put it simply, it’s like Babymetal existing in a world separate from the one we see now. And I think the title points to that ‘other’ Babymetal that exists in a parallel universe.”
When we ask who was in the alternative Babymetal during Doki Doki * Morning, we don’t get an answer… Babymetal founder/producer/Fox God emissary Kobametal materialises. It took him two-three months to think up the production for these comeback shows, he explains. Once he had the idea for the symbol for The Other One – two interlinking Os that represent the infinity symbol – it came to him quickly, and he’s already planning for April.
The trio thank us for coming, and present us with a gift bag containing a t-shirt and a transparent coffin keyring. We wave goodbye and leave them to a well-earned rest.
Back in the foyer of Makuhari Messe, we check our inbox. There’s an email from Ukky about the aftershow get-together, containing the address of the restaurant: Inawaraya Kaihin-makuhariten, on the first floor of the Excellio Makuhari shopping mall, a 20-minute walk down Chiba’s wide, immaculate streets. The Leader has approved our request.
When we arrive at the door, a stern-looking man in a Babymetal t-shirt is sitting behind a wooden table with some papers attached to a clipboard – presumably a guestlist – and he won’t let us in. After several minutes of back and forth, he goes inside, and returns with a man wearing a name badge that says ‘Vins Metal’.
“Metal Hammer?” We nod, and he opens the door. Vins Metal introduces us to the Leader – Susumu. Grinning from ear to ear, he leads us up the room and yells, “METAL HAMMER!” In response, everyone rises and cheers “METAL HAMMER!”, some standing on their seats and others filming us on their phones.
Susumu grabs hold of Hiroshi, a 74-year-old senior research assistant at Virginia Tech in the US, who’s fluent in English. He waves his arm, and everyone sitting along the side of his table immediately gets up, abandoning their food and drinks to make way for us. We remove our shoes and take a seat.
Susumu discovered Babymetal after his son showed him the video for Akatsuki, but when he went to see the band by himself, he felt lonely and walked out. Back then, you often had to apply for VIP tickets via a lottery, meaning many people ended up in the same position. Plus, he admits, many have wives and girlfriends who don’t like Babymetal, and aren’t interested in seeing them live.
In Japanese, a ‘bochi’ is a person who attends a gig alone, so the Facebook group he formed in 2018 is called ‘Bokuchi-kai’, meaning ‘The lonely fox’. It has 940 members.
What does his own wife think of the group? Susumu lets out a long laugh, and Hiroshi interprets. “Disgusted? No, actually, it’s a very difficult word in Japanese, because it’s a combination of ‘disgusted’ plus ‘I’ve given up’! He’s already paid 10,000 Euros ahead of time for tonight, so if nobody came, he’d be short. And he says, keep it a secret, because his wife doesn’t know about it! Ha ha!”
Luckily, the izakaya is packed. A stream of excitable members come over for selfies, and present us with homemade gifts. Mota-Metal hands us a sticker that riffs on the Red Hot Chili Peppers logo, and KIMI3 gives us a wooden keyring with a shiny golden fox head attached, plus a phone charm depicting Su-metal and Moametal on their thrones.
Minako-Metal gifts us a sticker of herself, and thanks us for including a photo of her and her friends dressed as the Kami Band in our last Babymetal feature. Periodically, the chant from 4 no Uta breaks out: clapclap, clap-clap-clap, clap-clap-clap-clap, “Yon yon!”
When the night’s over, we gather outside for photos. As we thank Susumu for his hospitality, he pumps his fist in the air and yells ‘METAL HAMMER!’ some more, and everyone follows his cue. We respond with a Babymetalstyle “See youuuuu!” And the group choruses “See youuuu!” and waves goodbye.
These gigs, and the imminent release of The Other One, mark a major new chapter in the Babymetal story. Since their initial burst of virality in 2014, they have been working towards establishing themselves as a bona fide metal band with staying power.
If second album Metal Resistance capitalised on their newfound fame, and 2019’s Metal Galaxy cemented it with collaborators such as Sabaton’s Joakim Brodén and Arch Enemy’s Alissa White-Gluz, The Other One feels like a sleeker, more grown-up statement about Babymetal in 2023. Or Babymetal and their interdimensional counterparts, to be exact.
“The theme this time around was The Other One – the other Babymetal we never knew existed. Therefore, this concept album needed to be comprised only of us,” says Moametal. “Although no guest singers were involved, now that I think about it, since we’re exploring the Babymetal from another dimension we never knew existed, maybe we are the guest singers!”
The girls still have ambitions to fulfil. Su-metal would like to collaborate with Bring Me The Horizon again, and Rammstein – “It would be so cool to blow fire!”.
Moametal’s are more… unexpected. “Recently, I had the opportunity to speak to the Backstreet Boys and we spoke about how we would love to perform together,” she reveals. “I think it would be so fun and interesting to go beyond genres and collaborate with them. Also, I would love to collaborate with Måneskin. I was surprised to hear that they were actually younger than us, because I totally thought they were older than me. But us both being in the same generation, I feel so inspired and also motivated.”
In turn, Babymetal have paved the way for the next generation. Later this week, we go for dinner with rising metallers Hanabie. With a song called We Love Sweets and an immense sense of fun, singer Yukina cites them as an influence.
“I feel honoured that a Japanese band like us is getting a lot of attention,” says Su-metal. “I would love to be onstage with them one day.”
As for the immediate future, the third member (Momoko? Yui?!), and the parallel-universe (Doki Doki * Morning Babymetal?) All we can do is cross our kitsunes and hope for more intel on Fox Day.
“Babymetal is constantly growing and evolving, and I believe change is always good,” says Moametal. “At times, I want to be a bit lazy and slack off, but when I think about your radiant smiles, I know I need to shake it off and do my best! Even while I am being interviewed right now, I am growing, so I don’t want you to miss a single second of it. Please keep your eyes on us, OK?”
Babymetal's new album The Other One is out now.

Wholesale Shirts UK: Affordable Fashion for Every Occasion
In the competitive world of fashion retail, offering high-quality, stylish clothing at affordable prices is essential for success. If you're in the UK and looking to expand your clothing business or start a new venture, wholesale shirts uk offer an excellent opportunity to tap into the ever-growing fashion market. From casual t-shirts to formal button-downs, sourcing shirts in bulk allows retailers to offer variety, meet customer demands, and maximise profits.
In this article, we’ll explore the benefits of buying wholesale shirts in the UK, the types of shirts available, how to choose the right suppliers, and the steps you can take to enhance your business with wholesale fashion.
Why Wholesale Shirts Are the Perfect Choice for Retailers
1. Cost Savings
Wholesale purchasing offers the primary benefit of cost savings. By buying shirts in bulk from suppliers, you significantly reduce the cost per unit compared to purchasing smaller quantities. This enables you to offer competitive retail prices while ensuring a healthy profit margin. In the fashion industry, where trends change rapidly, cost efficiency is key to staying profitable.
Bulk orders also allow you to lower operational costs such as shipping, handling, and packaging, contributing further to your savings. These savings can be passed on to your customers in the form of promotions or competitive pricing, helping you stand out in the UK fashion market.
2. Wide Variety of Styles and Options
When sourcing wholesale shirts in the UK, you'll have access to a broad range of styles and designs. This variety allows you to cater to different tastes and occasions, making it easier to attract a wide customer base. Some of the popular shirt styles available for wholesale include:
T-shirts: Perfect for casual everyday wear, t-shirts come in a range of designs, from plain to printed, and are essential items in any wardrobe.
Polo shirts: A classic style that bridges casual and smart, polo shirts are popular among both men and women, offering versatility and comfort.
Dress shirts: Ideal for formal or office wear, dress shirts provide sophistication and elegance, making them a staple in any business or formal collection.
Button-down shirts: Timeless and always in demand, button-down shirts work well for both casual and semi-formal outfits, making them perfect for versatile fashion collections.
By offering a range of shirt styles, you can attract a diverse audience, from students looking for casual wear to professionals needing formal attire.
3. Meeting Consumer Demand
The demand for quality shirts in the UK is constant, driven by both fashion-conscious shoppers and practical consumers. Whether it’s for everyday use, workwear, or special occasions, shirts are a wardrobe essential for men and women alike. By sourcing wholesale shirts, you ensure that you have the stock needed to meet demand throughout the year, especially during peak shopping seasons like Christmas, back-to-school, or summer holidays.
Additionally, shirts are highly adaptable to seasonal trends. Light, breathable materials like cotton and linen are perfect for spring and summer, while thicker fabrics like flannel and denim are ideal for autumn and winter.
How to Choose the Right Wholesale Shirt Supplier
1. Quality of Products
The quality of the shirts you stock will directly impact your business’s reputation. Before choosing a wholesale supplier, it’s crucial to evaluate the quality of the products. Request samples from potential suppliers to assess the fabric, stitching, and durability of the shirts. High-quality materials ensure customer satisfaction, leading to repeat business and positive reviews.
2. Supplier Reputation
Working with a reliable and reputable supplier is essential for ensuring consistent stock levels and timely deliveries. Research suppliers thoroughly by reading reviews, asking for references, and checking their track record. You want to partner with a supplier who can meet your needs, whether it’s fulfilling large orders or customising shirt designs.
3. Competitive Pricing
Pricing is one of the most important factors when selecting a wholesale supplier. Compare prices from different suppliers to ensure you’re getting the best deal without sacrificing quality. Keep an eye on minimum order quantities (MOQs), as some suppliers may offer lower prices for higher order volumes. For small businesses, finding suppliers with lower MOQs can help you maintain manageable inventory levels.
4. Sustainability and Ethical Sourcing
Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important consideration for consumers in the UK. Partnering with suppliers who offer ethically sourced and environmentally friendly shirts can help you appeal to eco-conscious customers. Look for suppliers who use organic materials, promote fair trade practices, and have transparent manufacturing processes.
Boosting Your Business with Wholesale Shirts
1. Stay on Top of Trends
Fashion trends in the UK change frequently, and staying on top of these trends is essential for keeping your stock relevant and attractive. Wholesale suppliers often provide shirts that reflect current fashion, helping you keep your inventory fresh. Offering trendy designs, colours, and styles can attract fashion-forward customers and encourage repeat business.
2. Seasonal Promotions
Offer special promotions and discounts during key seasons, such as summer sales or back-to-school promotions. Seasonal sales events not only attract customers but also help move inventory more quickly. Consider bundling shirts together or offering discounts for purchasing multiple items to boost sales.
3. Online Presence and Digital Marketing
With online shopping growing rapidly in the UK, having a strong online presence is crucial for success. Showcase your wholesale shirts on your website and social media platforms with high-quality images and engaging descriptions. Use digital marketing strategies like search engine optimization (SEO), email campaigns, and influencer collaborations to reach a wider audience.
4. Customisation and Branding
Many wholesale suppliers offer the option to customise shirts with your own brand logo, designs, or labels. This is a great way to create a unique product line that reflects your business’s identity. Customisation also allows you to offer exclusive collections, giving your customers a reason to choose your store over competitors.
Conclusion
Wholesale shirts in the UK present a fantastic opportunity for retailers looking to offer affordable, stylish, and diverse fashion options to their customers. From classic t-shirts to elegant dress shirts, buying in bulk allows you to provide quality products at competitive prices while maximising your profits. By partnering with reliable suppliers and staying in tune with the latest fashion trends, you can successfully grow your retail business and attract a loyal customer base.
For retailers seeking to build a strong wholesale clothing inventory, wholesale shirts are a practical and profitable investment. Embrace the potential of wholesale fashion to boost your business and offer customers the stylish, versatile clothing they seek.
