This person has clearly copied your ff fragment of the past. Lots of similarities but didn't bother giving you some credits. Atleast should've put "inspired by ctrlsht ff" what a shameless bitch and she got away with it. no one is seeming to call her out and even if did she's probably ignoring them. This is so wrong

There's also another person who told me the same thing, and I am going to address this concern once again. First, I am not sure if they really copied my work since my work isn't a unique plot. But if they did really "copy" my work without giving any credit, then it's up to them. It won't make me less of a person, but I don't know about them, lol. Second, honestly, I do see similarities with the plot, dialogue, and the plot twist, and I won't be surprised if they did really copy it, but it is what it is.

As for me, I don't really think about it that much if they "copied" it or not because it was already there. I know that it's heartbreaking for a writer when their work is copied, and the plagiarizer gains more recognition, but I don't want to stress myself because there are a lot of important things I have to be concerned about. And if they did really copy it, then that only proves that my works are good enough for them to copy it. lol

Plagiarism is taking the exact work of someone else and passing it off as your own.

It is not seeing something you love and choosing to create your own thing partially inspired by it.

Yes there's a line but like. Seeing a show about something and writing your own project also about that thing isn't plagiarism as long as you didn't directly take anything from the inspiration.

uh. so I am currently in crunch time for exams, and I have decided that now, for some godforsaken reason, is the time to get back on my John Polidori bullshit. specifically reading up about the biographical resonances of The Vampyre and Polidori's relationship to Lord Byron. you know me. you know this is exactly my brand of nonsense.

anyway Patricia Skarda was a literary scholar who in 1989 wrote a paper called Vampirism and Plagiarism: Byron's Influence and Polidori's Practice. this has been decently influential, if only because Polidori is a fairly niche area of study. her argument is basically that Polidori wrote The Vampyre, it was not only influenced heavily by Byron's unfinished fragment of a ghost story, August Darvell, but also mimics and mocks other of his works (most notably The Giaour) and moreover Lord Ruthven and Aubrey, the evil, handsome, corrupting vampire and the young male ingenue he takes on a whirlwind trip across Europe, are deliberately and unsubtly modelled on Byron and Polidori respectively.

this is... not necessarily a bad take. I broadly agree; it's part of what makes me so fascinated by the novella and the history around it. my beef is with the tone Skarda takes and the framing of Polidori as completely talentless, a bitter, infatuated hack-- it leads to a reciprocal deification of Byron and his talents that feels much more unquestioning. at times you sit there going, holy fuck, Patricia, what did John Polidori (notably dead for 150 years at the time of this being written) do to you???

the most egregious line is under the cut because it is genuinely such an awful choice of words that it feels necessary. tw rape mention.
