The Symphony of Pixels: Gaming’s Musical Evolution in 2024
1. The Rise of Dynamic Soundscapes 2024 saw the introduction of dynamic soundscapes that adapt to player actions, creating a unique auditory experience. Game songs like Minecraft’s “Eld Unknown” and “Featherfall” have utilized this technology to enhance immersion, where the music changes tempo, intensity, and even genre based on gameplay. In 2024, the gaming industry has witnessed a significant…

Pixel 8
Material Design.
Возможно кто - то почувствует разницу в мощности, но я не особо играю в мобильные игры. Особенно те, которые требуют высокую мощность. Динамики в виде полоски это просто взрыв мозга.
Pixel Buds Pro

We're somehow down to 8 weeks left until TAZGN6: The Suffering Game is out in the world, so I wanted to share a little process writeup! I'll probably share a couple more peeks at some of the panels where the layouts were especially fun as we get closer to the date itself. There's still time to submit your preorder receipt to get an acrylic keychain from First Second!
Layout: This is basically my first VERY TINY pass through the entire book! Each page is about 1" tall, so this panel would've been about 1/4". Nobody else usually sees these drawings, so this is a very special horrible little treat!
Pencils: I'm skipping over thumbnails, since I ended up reusing the bulk of them to pencils- but the entire team reviews the whole book at both the thumbnail and pencil stages, which is why I separate them out. This is where I'm trying to get the big gestures and expressions in (again, so the team can review them!); inking is for locking in details and using line weight to convey volume info.
Inks: I ink in clip studio using a couple different brushes; what's important to me is having some good line weight variation with pressure! I try to have the stability aid turned down as low as possible.
Colors: Fun! I care more about colors as a way to convey emotion or tone than """accurate""" local color, so these often get silly. It's comics!! Have fun with it!!
WHY IS IT PIXELATED/ WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE THAT: To hide a small silly spoiler! I can neither confirm nor deny any guesses. It looks goofy as all hell but we're just gonna have to lean into it.

There Are No Credits in Sun Haven: 1.5 Edition
I hesitated making this post because at this point I'm beating a dead horse. It is a horse that continues to go unacknowledged by the higher ups at Pixel Sprout, but the fact of the matter is I have nothing really to add. In the end, though, there's a couple of things I want to say.
First: Thank you to everyone who is pushing for credits in the Discord. You have a lot more power and a more direct voice in the matter than I do here on Tumblr. I don't post in the Discord very much because I worry I'd get banned for talking shit, but I do lurk and it brightens my day any time I see people taking up arms for the cause.
I want to share this:
This is a screenshot from Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago. It's credits! You only see them at the true end of the game, but they're there! And look-- Kyle Templeton, my partner and ex-Sun Haven artist, is there! He can add it to his resume and portfolio! I highly encourage you to play Yolk Heroes and leave a review of it on Steam. It's $8, less than several Sun Haven DLC packages:
@bugbearstew has a happy ending in all this, but it's important to keep fighting for all the artists who aren't so lucky yet. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you for using your voice for a good cause. 💜

im gonna review various ace spec flags based purely on vibes
((This is IN NO WAY how i feel about the sexualities themselves, just the flags))
~Acespec
Pretty but could be prettier. If this flag were a beetle it would be my friend and the kindest darn beetle on this planet. 7/10
~Asexual
A classic. Nothing can beat the vibes of this flag. Simple and concise. Love it. 10/10
~Aceflux
Feels muted, but in the way your childhood memories are muted when you look back on them. That nostalgia can never be replicated, except in the beauty of this flag. 9/10
~Aegosexual
I dont like it. Uncomfy. 3/10
~Apothisexual
Feels threatening, which is exactly what i want out of this flag. I feel like the winter soldier whenever i wear this pin around. Like im gonna rip your throat out with my metal arm. 11/10
~Cupiosexual
Reminds me of those little easter marshmallows that tasted slightly worse than the regulars. But also cotton candy, which is a gift from god, so ill bring it up a bit. 7/10
~Demisexual
Classic ace colors, but arranged in such an unbalanced way that somehow manages to both annoy me and remind me of pac man. i hate that little pixelated menace. 4/10
~Fraysexual
I like the base colors, but for some reason the combination really unnerves me. Very jarring to the eyes. 5/10
~Gray-asexual
I hate it. Bad vibes. 0/10
~Lithosexual
Very nice. Warm. Cozy. Im falling asleep now. 8/10
I may make an arospec one too if i feel up to it lol

Cassette Beasts?
Cassette Beasts is a creature-collecting game by Bytten Studio! Record monsters on tapes, become a Ranger, and find the way off of New Wirral in this amazing adventure!
Spoilers below the cut!!
So I had a plan to write this review before I even finished the game. It was just that good. But! I managed to hold off until I at least finished the main game. Next goal: 100% and DLC! And also buying the OST when I have the chance.
Now, I'm not putting this off until the middle of the review: every musical track in this game is a certified banger. I absolutely loved the music of the game. As one person put it (while I was looking for the OST), I just didn't get tired of the music. And that's a pretty big win for a game where you have so, so many encounters and only a handful of tracks to play.
youtube
youtube
The way they implement the music is also impressive because it's narratively important. The lyrics work their way in when a fusion happens and during big story battles. The town theme's music plays when you're indoors. Plus the lyrics just feel right with its tones and atmosphere. Also the difference between the few main battle themes is just enough for one to feel more tense/exciting than the others. Just an overall great thing they have going on with the audio.
Okay with that out of the way!
Cassette Beasts is a solid game, actually pretty high tier.
Mechanically, I've seen people compare it to Pokemon. I feel like it's like a mix of Pokemon and Persona. You can record the monsters, remaster (evolve) them at five stars, with some having having special evolution requirements. Monsters can show up as bootlegs, where they're a type other than its base type, which is just like shiny hunting but more (cause there's like 12 types). And I've already killed a plastic bootleg by accident...
The moves (stickers) are mix and match, mostly according to typing. I'm pretty into it cause I love giving my party members all sorts of type coverage. I haven't particularly gone into finding weird strategies yet other than AP Refund, but I can see some cool ones thanks to needing to battle all 12 Ranger Captains.
And then you can fuse! Which I thought was interesting, and it adds an ace to go to when you're in a pinch. But you fusing means that wild monsters (and other rangers) can fuse too. Those provide some fun challenges and opportunities to find bootlegs, plus progression in post-game.
Did I mention that this game is also like a Metroidvania? Capturing certain monsters gives up to 6 overworld movement abilities and I think that's pretty neat. All of them have their uses and none of them are niche, which is a win.
The story was pretty interesting! Dropping in onto a mysterious island and trying to find a way back home is nice and simple and all the detail added around it make it engaging. The Archangels are wildly uncomfortable which I didn't expect and I loved it. Despite loving it, it still did come out of nowhere but greatly forgiven because it was right at the start (and not some random turn in the middle).
The pacing was a bit off for me though because I got like 5 out of 8 song pieces before I even defeated 4 captains or even met all the partner characters. I also don't know how relationship progress works other than fight things and rest. Thinking about it now, there's probably a reason why there a speedrun timer in that you don't have to play through all the content (8/9 archangels, no captains?), I guess.
I liked the references to all sorts of topics throughout the story and I think it's pretty interesting for the characters to be from different timelines. It makes it easy to explain weird inconsistencies.
Funny thing I did by accident for end game's story: I switched out Meredith's Regensea with an Aeroboros cause I wanted her starter in my party. And boy did that choice bite back later lol.
Graphics are also solid. The 3D world with 2D sprites reminds me of Octopath Traveller. I appreciate the non-pixel portrait art for the characters, but I would've liked it either way. The designs of the monsters and the characters are all great! Honestly, I should take some notes from them since even if there's 15+ characters, they still all have very specific designs and personalities to match.
The detail in the world is great too, like the light reflecting off the puddle or the fog that rolls in and the rain. So like weather in general.
Also, as a note just for me, I liked the fonts and font effects that they used. Very cool.
Cassette Beasts is a quality creature-collecting game! If you need another Pokemon/Digimon/Persona, here's a game for you. Or if you just want a cool turn-based RPG with cool music, that's cool too.
As always,
Enjoy gaming!

got any thoughts on Tonu?
Tonu are obviously rhinos, though in classic Neopets style they have a mane (seriously, Neopets LOVES manes) and a few large spots on their sides. They sport a singular horn on their nose and standard odd-toed ungulate feet. They're nothing fancy, but they have just enough that they don't feel overly straightfoward to their IRL animal counterpart. Color use is also good, with a light base color for the skin and darker accents on the mane, tail, horn, and toes. No complaints here.
The Tonu definitely benefited from customization, loosing the very strange looking face with its oversized eyes, improper perspective on the left side, and unneeded line under the horn. Stuff like the tail shape and the mane size also improved, and the number of small spots on the side were reduced by one.
Favorite Colours:
8-bit: I went over this in my 8-bit colour review so I'm not going to go into too much depth here, but this is a beautiful color. There's lots of details in the pixels, including multiple layers of shading, and it comes with a very fun rainbow mane and unicorn-esq horn/tail. These elements are wearable as a bonus, so you don't have to keep them if you don't care for them—though personally I like them a lot, and I feel like they keep the colour from being overly bland.
Candy: What can I say? Tonus just do really well with rainbows. The candy Tonu has a subtly swirled pink candy body with these rainbow cotton-candy accents, including a unique shape for the mane and tail. The horn is given stripes to match, and some blue eyes make the whole thing pop. It's tasty, it's pretty, and it's fun—what's not to like?
Wraith: Wraith is one of those colors where how good it looks depends entirely on whatever artist worked on that species. I'm happy to report that the artist who worked on the Tonu did a great job with it. The entire body has a very fluid motion to it, with swirls around the mane and tail, and tings like their knees and nostrils have become stylized shapes. There's a careful balance of positive and negative space, and an appropriately malicious expression. Good stuff.
BONUS: Using a birch tree (and yes it is a birch, though admittedly the leaf shapes are a bit off) for the Tonu because of its white, rough, constantly-peeling bark is a brilliant pick, as it perfectly fits with a rhino's rough skin. The textures are good and wrap around the body correctly, and the leaf mane and tail are integrated with care. (An honorable shoutout goes to magma, which is solid but didn't quite make the cut.)
