April 2nd will be three years since Angel left us but her life and legacy lives on and grows stronger every day. There is no better way to honor Angel and her beautiful life than by saving millions more. One unaltered female and her offspring over a six year period can create 67,000 animals. The prevention of unwanted animals is vital and desperately needed in order to lower shelter intake and euthanasia numbers nationwide. This April 2nd, the @standupforpitsfoundation will be fully funding 22 free spay and neuter clinics nationwide which will fix 868 pit bull “type” dogs costing SUFP $74,000.00. We be posting a lot about this massive effort leading up to April 2nd and asking people to donate and share. Supporting initiatives like this and educating people about the importance of spaying and neutering SAVES LIVES. If you know someone is backyard breeding, report them. Never buy dogs from breeders and consider volunteering for groups who help low income communities spay & neuter their pets. Many people do not have internet access and rely on community outreach for resources and help and they want to do the right thing but just don’t know how. The majority of all dogs in US shelters are labeled pit bull “type” dogs. #Repost @rebeccacorry ・・・ 5 of our eleven FREE clinics are FULL!! On April 2nd, the @standupforpitsfoundation will fully fund 11 FREE Spay/Neuter clinics nationwide in honor of Angel. April 2nd will mark two years since she left us but her legacy lives on and there is no better way to celebrate her beautiful life than by saving others. An estimated 600 pit bull type dogs are set to be fixed on ANGEL Day and by doing so literally millions of lives will be saved. The best way to save shelter dogs is by preventing them from ending up in the shelter to begin with. Just 1 unaltered female and her offspring over a six year period creates 67,000 puppies. Many of which end up in the wrong hands, stray, in our shelters and/or dead. Spaying and neutering is a much needed and vital effort we should all be focusing on. Spaying and neutering is what can get us off the giant hamster wheel that is rescue and it does not get the support and attention it needs. This initiative will cost SUFP just over $38,000.00. @Regrann from @luckymamf2 - Credit to @denise13dd : An #animalcontrol agency in rural #Louisiana issued a dire statement two short days ago about the fate of 39 #pitbulltypedogs who are being held at their facility. The #dogs, who are described as “unwanted,” have had no interest and time and again, potential adopters have passed them by. The #St.LandryParishAnimalControl wants to save the dogs, but they are apparently out of options. On February 10, a sad notice was issued to followers of the animal control Facebook page: Starting Wednesday February 15…we will sadly have to euthanize 39 pit and pit type dogs. They have not been claimed…they are unwanted. They are every color..Every size. The one thing they have in common…The word PIT. Each dog has been posted ….Each dog is unique …(PLEASE keep your negative comments to yourself …we are trying to save these dogs …With this post…your negative comments DO NOT HELP) SLPAC Opelousas La 337-948-6184 The post has since been shared over 2,000 times and it appears that some help has been sent to the dogs who are at risk. On Sunday, the animal control updated followers with a few words of hope: We want to say thank you for all the LOVE & SUPPORT for these pits….we can try to hold them for a few extra weeks..giving adoption and rescue a chance..starting Monday we will form an album….BUT…we need 15 of these kennels….to move them to….It’s our only hope. These are 5×10 welded wire…must be welded wire to hold a pit type dog….and the shade top. He comes out of his kennel SO proud to show you all his toys and can't wait to eat snacks with you in your lap. He wants to sit right by you (or on top of you) and get his daily massages and tell you all the things that have happened in his kennel since he last saw you. It's truly his favorite part of the day. Thurman currently shares his room (separate kennels) with his best buddy and fellow survivor from #thegreat108, Clarence. We like to think that when we tuck them in for the night, they stay up late playing on their Nindendo Switches and trading baseball cards. Animal Control responded to a call at a location, where Kelly was found in a dog house behind another deceased dog. Immediately after bringing her into our care, she was assessed for her multiple medical issues - dehydration, emaciation, skin conditions, tumors, and more. Kelly started receiving around the clock treatment from our medical team and is recovering well in a foster home. She is reported to love snuggling on the couch, and is as sweet as can be. Kelly has some more healing to do, but can be transferred to a partner or placed into a foster to adopt home. At the back of the yard, we saw a small, curled up, black pit bull riddled with scars. Our team scooped him up, named him Jack, and brought him back to our shelter. Instantly, he showed us how grateful he was to be rescued. It's no secret that Jack is a volunteer favorite, and anyone that meets him can immediately see why! His adorable little ears, the way he tap dances when he sees you coming to take him on a walk, the way he cuddles in your lap for attention... we could go on and on. Jack's ideal home will be one where he is the only four-legged family member to enjoy everything life has to offer.
