New series! Horses I’d buy if I ever won the lottery and could just have what ever I wanted (on the search for one specific horse).

From a cute long legged foal, to a beautiful mare. She's bred for western pleasure but can rock it in the English pleasure show ring as well.

I know that a minimally marked tobiano blanket appaloosa is my pattern. I know that this is my (general) pintaloosa pattern on Georg's right side. But I have no idea what color to actually put under that pattern. So I quickly threw this together to debate.
ORGINALLY my custom Georg was supposed to be silver buckskin - but neither silver dapple nor cream exist in Noriker. These colors DO exist in Norikers because I used real Norikers as inspiration.
I am good with color in traditional mediums. I know that I can create depth of color in any of these options. Even if it may not appear so in my 30 second coloring throw-ups here.

Pintaloosa Blind Import
I think to fill my space here a bit more I should probably show you what I'm up to, even tho these Import horses will not be downloadable for you. However I want to explain my process of making them so you may learn from me. ♥ This Pintaloosa is my most recent blind import for Aurora over on Equiliberty.
The process
I made sure to handpaint every spot and her roaning. I did so in Photoshop because I have much more control over there (I use a graphic tablet). I created three layers to make three custom stencils for this import only. One for her spots, obviously. One for the roaning. And one for the Tobiano pattern. In CAP I chose one of the default bay swatches first and went into the paint mode to play with my stencils. I used the roaning first, then the spots and then the tobiano pattern. Then I grabbed some of @maeveywaevey's custom brushes to go over a few places. I also used some parts of my shine stencil, even tho it's barely visible on this coat because there's a lot going on. I also decided to paint in a few details on the head by hand, because the stencils I made weren't perfect. It was only then I decided bay just doesn't fit as a base colour, because there is so much going on. It was just a little bit overwhelming to look at. I immediately grabbed a dark grey colour and I was sooo pleased with how much better it looked with that! Then I used one of @maeveywaevey's mottled muzzles on her, because they are perfection! I also used her eyes. And then I decided on what mane the mare gets. I went with this mane because it showed more of the head and it just fits her so well. A member called Squid on the discord server helped me with her name and then she was ready to be saved. ♥ If you've read this far. Please let me know if it was interesting and if you want to see more posts like this. ♥
The finished horse

I had an interesting day at Sunfield Farm today...
Tumblr media
I saw this pretty girl turned out with a flaxen Pintaloosa. She didn't want to have anything to do with me, so I promptly asked around Jorvik stables if they knew who she belonged to (she looked miserable compared to the jaunty pintaloosa). They told me that she belongs to Filip Sunfield, and I should go ask him.
Tumblr media
So I did. And he said that yes, she belongs to him, but he doesn't want her because she's a "problem horse". "If you can saddle her, you can keep her. Free of charge." Those were his exact words to me.
Tumblr media
So, I approached her cautiously, and she gave me the side-eye mare-stare.
Tumblr media
I scrambled onto her back and she reared IMMEDIATELY. I'm fine, I probably just sprained an ankle or something.
Tumblr media
Then she ran off, and I recollected myself and tried again...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She let me brush her, AND grab her foot! Mr Sunfield was watching in astonishment, not pictured here. After a basic bonding experience, she let me up on her back with no problems.
Tumblr media
Mr Sunfield and I loaded her up into the trailer (with much objecting from her) and got her home safe and sound.
Tumblr media
She seems to be settling in well, and I think I'll call her Osprey.

Coconut and Hokey Pokey my two tigerstripe dun horses. Coconut is the Pintaloosa dun while Hokey Pokey is the dun with dapples. Both were super fun to paint. ^^ In my gameplay, these two originated from a wild mustang herd that was rounded up, and my sim adopted both of them.

I've seen a few people complain about the lack of realistic genetics in the game and as someone obsessed with genetics, I get it.
However, while the genes aren't "realistic" they at least function in a reasonable way. I remember the days of breeding in Horse Isle 2 where it was a bit of a dice roll that just was very unsatisfying.
Basically how Rivershine works is very simple:
You breed a chestnut horse to a black horse and you can get either chestnut or black.
You breed two bays and you'll get a bay.
Basically what you breed is what you get. No hidden genes.
There are genes that add variety like dun, roan, and cream, as well as white patterns like tobiano, overo, splash, and appaloosa. They all function the same way of what you breed is what you get.
Each gene fills a certain "slot" though, so they can't stack. Like dun and cream and roan all are in the same slot so you can't combine those, sadly. All the white patterns are in the same slot so you can't get a true pintaloosa.
This sounds really limiting but I can promise you there is variety that feels almost endless once you get into it. Each color has a bunch of variations within it, as does each marking. Even two horses with the exact same traits in each slot can look wildly different.
It may not be realistic genetics but it is a reasonable system of genetics and so I, again a horse genetics enthusiast, am not gonna complain.
Hey y'all so you may know I'm very into horse video games.
And right now a very good independently made horse game is on sale for a bigger discount than it's ever been on sale before.
Ranch of Rivershine!
I have a few issues with the game but they're nothing too big and some may even be fixed. The game is in early access, but offers a very full and complete experience. More content is coming but it's a great game as-is already.
It is very Stardew Valley-esque in several gameplay aspects (seasons, crop growth, villagers, etc) but with a focus on horses.
There are many different ways to play. You can buy and train horses and sell them for a profit. You can breed them. You can compete in cross country competitions. You can grow crops to feed to your horses or to sell.
It is very low pressure in its gameplay. While there are crops that can only grow in certain seasons, there is never any huge rush forcing you to do anything quickly. You can skip many days and not suffer any serious consequences.
Something I like about this game over other horse games is that while some horses do start out with better stats than others, if you are willing to do the competitions, you can improve all horses to be equal. Many games make it so your early horses become useless in late game, which sucks if you're attached to them, but while it takes work to do it, you can always improve any horse in Ranch of Rivershine.
Many call the game grindy, but it's a type of grindy I don't mind too much personally. Some parts of the grind are even fun. And in fact, some of the grind makes it feel a bit more realistic. While I wouldn't call Rivershine a realistic horse simulator by any means, it does capture a lot of the experience of caring for and training horses than most games available but in a way that isn't overly tedious.
Anyways, I highly recommend grabbing it while it's on sale. The sale ends January 4th.
