media ranting my old friend i have another entry for you today:
i was scrolling through tiktok because i was looking for a specific remix of a song (pls tell me i'm not alone lol) and i came upon a little debate re: marilag by dionela and hold on why are people whining about a song being too in-depth or "oh i can't even hear him pronounce his lyrics he should make them simpler" and while i do not have the extensive knowledge of rnb / pinoy rnb i do have the extensive experience of a listener SO
One: the song is too in-depth. and that's a bad thing? sorry, but it is subjective i guess because i enjoy a good song that i can digest. if millions of fans (including pinoy fans) can sit down and analyze the entirety of taylor swift albums, they can handle dionela.
Two: he should pronounce the lyrics better or better yet, simplify them. again, subjective. if it helps the song that way, sure, but i doubt he'll change up his style because he wants to gain more fans. dionela gives off the vibe of putting out music he puts soul into and believes in, not just because he's out here farming for views and attention. i was in the trenches for like six albums where ariana grande "ehhgngjh" and harmonizes every other verse and i Loved it so this is also no problem for me.
honestly, i think it's the lyrics thing that left me feeling icky because why aren't people interested in breaking it down, breaking down the concepts of emotions and feelings in his songs. there's a certain vibe behind their structure and it feels sincere when you listen to them that i just can't help but dig in and feel disappointed that other people want it simplified. i don't. give me complex anytime!
anyway i never found the specific remix of marilag that i want and have resorted to just vibing to the og. stream it yall hehe

Sa sobrang pag tangkilik ko mas sanay ako mag English kaysa mag Tagalog which is comically depressing one could say. -But at least may pinoy personas parin talaga ako at kung ano man tangkilik mo sa ibang bansa hinding hindi mamamatay ang ating magandang personas.
1.) Hospitality
Maliit ang Pilipinas if You Think About It.

Being indoors for most days made me rediscover kpop. Hahaha! I wasn't really keen about it during high school to college (second-gen kpop, anyone?) since I was more into altrock and rnb, western pop. There.
I think it was about two years back when a friend introduced Beenzino and Sanchez that I got to appreciate kpop more. These two are pop-rnb styles so I'm digging the vibes. Then IU, Dean, Crush, Lee Hi. There's also some AKMU, Urban Zakapa and Grey on my playlist.
More recently, I binge-listened to SHINee's albums, Baekhyun, Jessi and Red Velvet. My most favorite I guess is Mamamoo. Hahaha!
There's something about the melodies they create that attract listeners. Or maybe the extremes of birit vs hinga-hinga styles in Pinoy music are mehh.
Anyway, I'm enjoying this phase. I usually use foreign-language music (non-Pinoy, non-English) as background while studying or reading. It's helpful. Another friend shared NCT Starter Pack playlist, this is good. Hahaha!

KRD Special Feature: Feels Good at 27-The Future of Aliw Broadcasting Corporation on it's 27th Year.
May 12, 2018 marked the 27th Year of Aliw Broadcasting Corporation since it was founded in 1991 by the late Antonio Cabangon-Chua and acquired DWIZ 882 which was then known as "Sunshine City" under Philippine Broadcasting Corporation of the Elizalde’s Manila Broadcasting Company. Originally housed at the Dominga Building 2 in Makati (which now houses ALC Media subsidiaries View Magazine, Action & Fitness, Cook Magazine, Business Mirror broadsheet, Pilipino Mirror tabloid, and the legendary Philippines Graphic weekly magazine).
Upon acquisition of DWIZ, it flipped its format to News and Public Service through a 25,000 watt transmission, until it went on full-power via a 50,000-watt broadcast years later. In 1994, Home Radio Network was launched beginning with DYQC-FM 106.7 Cebu although DWCD-FM 97.9 still takes place until 1998 when the National Telecommunications Commission rejected its license renewal for Crusaders Broadcasting System as stated in a Supreme Court ruling/decision. In 1997, Aliw thru its subsidiary Insular Broadcasting Systems, Inc. (previously known as a broadcast entity throughout the 70's) acquired DWCD 97.9 and changed it's call letters to DWQZ-FM (which is a variation of its AM callsign but the meaning of the last two call letters is QuartZ), and began test broadcasts.
In 2000, DWIZ and Aliw Broadcasting Corp moved its headquarters from Dominga Building 2 to its newly-built Citystate Center building in Pasig City (also houses the corporate office and main branch of Citystate Savings Bank, an ALC sister company, as well as other ALC entities Fortune Care and Eastern Security & Investigation Agency). That same year DWQZ was christened as 97dot9 Home Radio. It started as an automated music station. In 2006 to 2009, Lanie Chan or known as "Jackie" became the main voice over of the station it also became as "The Number 1 Easy Listening Music Station" and applied it to provincial stations in Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Naga, Legazpi and General Santos. Years later, it launched a weekly programming block dubbed as 'Home Radio Variety Hits Sunday (VHS)', lifted from its daily 'Lunchout' program airs a variety of songs from the 70's to the early 2000's. (That wasn't the case of a weekly programming block when in the mid 2000's, it began its Sunday night special called 'Home Radio Presents'.)
By September 2009, Home Radio added the female jocks ending the automated era of Home Radio and formulating the 'Less talk-More Music' norm in all FM stations, beginning with their pre-recorded speils and eventually in December of the same year, they went live (it even have male jocks few years later).
In 2010, 10 Years after Home Radio was founded, It launched its station in Dagupan reaching listeners to Northern and Central portions of Luzon. It would become DWIZ 89.3 Dagupan three years later in 2013.
2014 marked the changes of Aliw Broadcasting Corp. as they signed a three year memorandum of agreement with Radio Philippines Network's Radyo Ronda Network for the expanded radio coverage nationwide on Jan. 3, 2014.
A month later on February 28, 2014, Home Radio Network ended it's easy listening music run after 14 years of its launch citing its low ratings following the launch of Easy Rock in 2009. By March 17, 2014, Home Radio reformatted as a masa station with the slogan "Natural!" thus becoming the first iteration of Home Radio Natural.
Lannie Chan who was the main voice of Home Radio Network, was replaced by Bryan Quitoriano who also became station manager, thus all of its jocks were retained with their new names based on tropical fruits.
With Home Radio Natural, it faced competition among masa stations: Bombo Radyo's Star FM, RMN's iFM, ABS-CBN's My Only Radio, GMA's Barangay FM, MBC's Love Radio and Yes! The Best, UBSI’s Energy FM and Win Radio of Manny Luzon’s One Radio Management.
By Summer 2014, Home Radio name was retired and made "Natural" the primary brand by July 2014. In August 2014, it flipped formats from Hot AC/Top 40 to full-fledged Top 40 station. The language of the station is English/Taglish following the launch of the short-lived 'The RnB Show' of Duncan Ramos and Jimmy Bondoc.
By November 2014, Natural was reverted to Home Radio but the format is still the same with the nomenclature of the frequency occupied on all stations thus all of its jocks were dismissed.
In Summer 2015, Home Radio changed its sound and its tagline "Be You" and the Slogan "The Home of the Millennials". It was managed by former 99.5 RT jock Miguel Anzuares By the end of 2015, "Natural!" slogan was dropped and changed its slogan "The Music of Now" Braggy Braganza (who was the voice over of PTV 4, DWIZ and Home Radio and formerly of Campus Radio 97.1, DZSR Sports Radio (now Radyo Pilipinas 2) and MMDA Traffic Radio) takes over as station manager replacing Anzuares.
On March 11, 2016, Antonio Cabangon-Chua succumbs at 81. Following his death, Ms. Josephine Reyes took over the reins as President of the network, but a year later, D. Edgard Cabangon and D. Adrian Cabangon took control as Chairman/President and Vice President/General Manager, respectively.
Also in 2016, DWIZ relaunched its newly upgraded 50,000-watt transmitter in Obando, Bulacan with its 300 foot tower providing improved signal reception in the Greater Luzon Area, decomissioning the old antenna used for 25 years prior to its switch to its new antenna.
In August 2016, Home Radio Davao was relaunched with a music and news programming as 98.7 Home Radio News FM Davao. Cebu and Legazpi Stations had an attempt to its Davao station but failed in 2017.
On June 30, 2017 at 9am, Home Radio Network ended its CHR programming in order to target to a broader audience. The following day, it reinstated its easy listening programming with a playlist of the 70s, 80s, 90s and a handful of 2000s easy listening songs. With the change to easy listening format, It also changed its slogan "It Feels Good to be Home" and a jingle sung by former TV5 News Journalist Chi Bocobo/Ces Datu. Braganza was retained as station manager and became the voice of Home Radio Network.
In 2018, Aliw launched its nationwide simulcast of DWIZ program "Karambola" via DWIZ Palawan and Dagupan and Provincial Home Radio Stations except Manila thru DWIZ Manila anchored by seasoned commentators plus blogger RJ 'Thinking Pinoy' Nieto (this wasn't the first DWIZ program to go on a nationwide reach. back in 2016, DWIZ launched a weekly late-night musical & commentary program 'Pusong Pinoy' hosted by renowned singer-songwriter Ka Freddie Aguilar and Direk Chris Libroho, airs live on Sundays on the said station with replays on Wednesdays in all Home Radio provincial stations, DWIZ Dagupan & Palawan. It even followed suit with 'Pangga Ruth Abao Live!' airing early on a delayed basis in select Home Radio provincial stations, RPN-Radyo Ronda AM stations in Mindanao and via DWIZ Palawan, hours before the Live airing in Manila.)
If there is a future for Aliw Broadcasting Corp. Depending on the decision of the management It should have:
1.) The Aliw-RPN Merger after the ALC Group gets the remaining minority Government share of RPN (Aliw will be the surviving entity) 2.) RPN Radyo Ronda under Aliw will now have its Manila Flagship as Radyo Ronda 882 Manila 3.) Home Radio Network will be all easy-listening music station in all provincial stations once again since its return in 2017. 4.) DWIZ Dagupan and Palawan reverts to 893 Home Radio Dagupan and 943 Home Radio Palawan 5.) Radyo Ronda and Home Radio Networks will have a unified programming compared to today's programming. (Karambola might end up in Radyo Ronda instead of Home Radio) 6.) Home Radio will expand its operations to Baguio, Bacolod, Boracay, Laoag, Tuguegarao, Lucena, Iligan, Zamboanga to continue its reach with 979 Home Radio. 7.) Home Radio must be heard on Cignal Digital TV.
Happy 27th year to Aliw Broadcasting Corporation!
(NOTE: The contributor of this post is Carl Veluz, a good friend of the EIC/Publisher of KRD .)
