A year of Writing: 2024
I got managed to keep writing this year, which I'm proud about, given how much I have going on IRL.
BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT
I finished off my literally decade long OTP Challenge: Daken/Bullseye: +200k in 30 chapters of Bullsnikt Smut. 26. Bad/Boring Sex is still my personal favorite.
RARE PAIR SHIPPING
Updated What’s Owed to Us as the World Ends Bullbones and finally finished of the KiB storyline, it will head into its third arc come 2025.
Wrote Bullbones PWP again with Impatience, spiritual successor to Showtime.
Season's Greetings (and a merry fuckmas to you too, asshole) included a first ever Neena/Tony/Lester threesome.
FIC RESURRECTION
Got my ongoing WIP w-i-ping again; included a cont to The Way You Shake and Shiver
Revived and rewriting Base Desire (Redux)
Honorable mention
Of Cats and Dogs that started off the year with some old school Bullsnikt.; breaking my inability to write short fic.
In summary:
2024 has been my fic revival and rare pair year, very Bullseye centric and my obsession there has only gotten worse (affectionate).
I hope you've enjoyed these, feel free to comment and make your own year in fic.

One Dress a Day Challenge
October: Gold Redux
Curse of the Golden Flower / Gong Li as Empress Phoenix
This is a twofer, as we also have Emperor Ping (Chow Yun-Fat) in an equally magnificent golden robe. These are their ceremonial outfits for a festival, referred to as the Dragon Robe and the Phoenix Gown. According to IMDB, it took 40 people and two months to create them. So much gold, so much detail, so much opulence, but the thing that generated the most discussion was the amount of cleavage on display. That's movies, I guess!
The exact time setting of the film is a bit vague, but it seems to be roughly the 10th century. The English version gives the year as 928, but this is not in the original Chinese version.
By the way, note the sprig of holly(?) in her headdress.

Sneak Peek of a chapter from my story that probably won't make it's way into the final draft of either version - Crimson or Crimson Redux (feat : Tumblr's shitty formatting)
The next day, Riptide found himself shuffling uneasily inside a local bus, shooting wary glances at anyone wearing anything even slightly resembling the Deathbringer’s threefold cross... or, for that matter, anything that seemed just a bit too white to be wearing on a public bus, no matter how clean the interior was
A long pause, and then he pulled out his phone, scrolling down to the last text Serenity had sent him, about ten minutes ago, in that awkward, clipped way of someone clearly uncomfortable with texting, who was making a valiant attempt at trying anyways
Serenity (6:46 PM): Got us a booth 🎉
Serenity (6:47 PM): Restaurant’s p cool. You should see it
Right. The restaurant they were going to. Because they were going there. On a date. Riptide sucked in a sharp breath through pursed lips at the thought, feeling his heart hammer in his chest, as his fingers pulled up the keyboard, tapping out a rapid response
Riptide (6:57 PM): I still don’t know why we have to go at different times -_-
Riptide (6:57 PM): I mean, we live in the same hotel suite...
Serenity (6:58 PM): It’s about the vibes, Riptide
Riptide bit back a faint huff of laughter at that, looking at it for a second, imagining the way the skin at the corner of his lips folded when he smiled, the sparkle that glinted in the depths of his eyes when he laughed, like a new winter’s frost
Riptide (6:59 PM): Vibes ?
Serenity (7:00 PM): If we’re doing this, we’re doing this properly
Riptide bit back a smile, chewing slightly at the inside of his cheek as he tries to think up a response. Before he can, however, a new message pings into the chat
Serenity (7:01 PM): ❤️
Even if he’s getting used to this, to the way Serenity peppers his messages with heart emojis , it still makes his heart pound. Makes his belly twist. Especially the red one. It felt like an... official declaration, or something – you are my boyfriend. I love you
And that ? That made his breath speed up
Riptide (7:03 PM): ❤️
After a few long seconds of silence, Serenity messages him his location in the restaurant – a Cheesecake Factory, apparently one of the very few brands of the old, pre-parahuman world, to remain extant without collapsing in on itself or expanding outwards into a global empire – and asks him his drink choice so he can go ahead and order it for him
“Sorry if I eat all the bread before you get here”, Riptide receives as the bus rattles to a halt in front of the glass-and-steel facade of a boutique that stood within walking distance of the Cheesecake Factory, both of them set a ways away from the majority of the city, overlooking it’s jagged skyscrapers and glinting glass-and-steel monoliths
He smiles and sends him a middle finger, before pocketing the phone
The restaurant, Riptide can’t help but notice when he finally gets there, is packed to the gills, people bustling about basically every single table, packed so close together that it’s difficult for him to maneuver past them. He does manage, somehow, but it’s still difficult
It’s fancy too, fancier than any restaurant Riptide’s ever been too – mostly because he never really went to restaurants. His mother wasn’t the “eating out” type. He’s got on something he threw together in about twenty minutes that afternoon, and even though everyone else is dressed in tourist shit, red-faced and sweaty from a day of sightseeing, he feels weirdly underdressed
It was called the Cheesecake Factory, for God’s sake. It’s interior should look like a local McDonalds, not the lobby of the Ritz, all dim and marble-y and orange
It takes him a moment to locate Serenity, seated in a two-person booth in one dark corner of the restaurant, idly poking at the basket of bread kept in the middle of his table, occasionally looking over to give the tall glass of something red beside it long, meandering looks. The shadows splayed about him were darker than usual – seems like he wasn’t the only one nervous about this date
He looks great, good enough that Riptide’s heart catches on his throat for a moment, dressed in dark wash jeans that clung sinfully to the lithe length of his legs, black dress shoes that looked ridiculously out of place on his feet, and a khaki green T-shirt that stretched over his chest tightly, leaving very little to the imagination. Black bands of cloth snaked their way up the curving lengths of his exposed arms, effectively hiding his wrists from view. Riptide just watches him for a few seconds, chewing at his bottom lip as he sees him reach forward to take a sip of the tall red glass, before setting it down and peering at it like it was a particularly enthralling puzzle
At last, he blows out a breath, shakes and flexes his hands to steel himself, and slowly makes his way over to the table
When he’s two booths away, Serenity looks up from the tall glass of red he’s examining intently, and spots him, his lips curling into a smile so beautiful that Riptide forgets how to breathe for a moment
“Hey”, he greets, standing up – and shreds of the shadows he had unconsciously summoned around him seemed to cling to his torso in thin, translucent flakes of sooty ash as he did, “You made it”
Riptide smiles back, leaning forward to press a kiss to the other man’s forehead, right in the furrow between his eyebrows, Serenity’s skin warm as a furnace under his lips, before finally breaking away and murmuring, “Course I did”
A long pause, and then Serenity reaches forward with one hand to pull Riptide into a quick hug, his face pressed into the smooth fabric of his T-shirt. The smell of men’s bodywash and some kind of flowery detergent fills Riptide’s nose, and there are strong arms wrapped around his torso, and he was fairly certain his heart was beating hard enough that everyone in the restaurant could hear it
He blows out a breath through his nose as Serenity finally releases him
“You smell good”, he says, sounding a twinge nervous, shuffling his feet idly. He looks up, and the orange lights of the Factory catch his face at just the right angle, glinting about his features like the halo of a saint, and Riptide just wants to grab his face and kiss the life out of him
But he doesn’t, much to his own dismay
He intead just raises his eyebrows at the other man in a meaningful gesture. Tilts his head slightly in a wordless acknowledgement, before shuffling awkwardly over to his seat to sit down
But just before he can, Serenity leans in and gives him a quick press of a kiss that’s probably meant for his lips but instead ends up landing on the space right under his nose. A flash of fire sears its way through the nerves of his face, and he feels the tops of his cheeks brighten with a scarlet blush, even as Serenity snickers his way out of the kiss, whatever mouthwash he had used that morning hitting Riptide in the face with the smell of spearmint gum
A moment later, they’re seated, both blushing like a couple of kids on a first date – which, Riptide supposed, they were – and Riptide reaches forward to poke at the bread basket, only to find it half-empty
He levels a look at Serenity, lifting his eyebrows, the corner of his mouth twitching into a crooked grin, “Really ?”
Serenity simply shrugged, lips curving into a ghost of a smile, sweet enough to give Riptide calories, “I did warn ya”
Another pause, and then Serenity awkwardly clears his throat into the silence, before waving at the glass of tall and red that had been set on his table, drops of condensation peppering the surface with a hazy translucence, “Is raspberry lemonade made of raspberry or lemon ?”
Riptide blinked. That was... a terrible ice-breaker, so much so that he couldn’t keep the faint huff of laughter that welled up at the base of his heart off his lips. Reaching forward, he picks up a piece of bread – something fancy, white and hard-shelled- idly passing it from hand to hand, even as he looks up to shoot Serenity a look that was no doubt unbearably fond, “Both, I think”
Serenity leans back, turning to give the glass of raspberry lemonade a wondering look, peering into its redness like it held the secrets of the universe, his lips parted in an “O” of surprise. The light reflecting off of his face ignites it’s sharp lines into shades so striking that Riptide was half-certain he was going insane
After a moment, Serenity seems to catch onto the fact that Riptide was staring, shooting him a smirk that sent a rush of fire blazing an ashy trail down the skin of his torso. Adrenaline rips through him at the sight, and his lips are moving before he can even comprehend it fully
“Can I kiss you ?”, his voice is breathless. Fragile and reverent, like a prayer in a temple
“You can do anything you want to me”, Serenity’s response is more neutral, even as he rises from his seat in one fluid motion, walking over to Riptide and dipping down. It’s a good thing he’s already seated, because he’s fairly certain his legs were too weak to support his body weight at the moment
Riptide is a bit too eager and lifts his face forward too much. Their foreheads knock together and he lets out a hiss at the sting. They readjust and their lips finally meet. Serenity giggles against his mouth and Riptide lets the sound fill up the hollow of his chest. Wants to hold it there, like a shrine houses the divine, and keep it safe forever.
He wonders vaguely if they should be doing this somewhere more private, feels the searing pulse of hundreds of eyes on them both, but that only serves to send more adrenalin through his veins – Serenity isn’t ashamed of me. Serenity’s willing to do this in front of an audience of this size. The thought is gone completely when Serenity’s lips opens up under this, replaced with a searing buzz at the meeting of hot tongues. It sets something in his stomach alight.
Serenity lifts a knee between Riptide’s thighs to press their bodies closer. The kiss deepens and Riptide feels nothing in the world except all the points their two bodies are connected. Heat and desire rip through his flushed skin like a forest fire.
And then it’s over, and Serenity gently, slowly, breaks away, shooting Riptide a phantom half-grin, before turning to stalk back over to his own seat, lounging carelessly in it, a smug grin pulling at his lips as he glances up at Riptide’s expression, dizzy from the ecstasy he’s just now beginning to come down off
“So”, he begins in a low drawl, and Riptide notices his lips, flushed-red and swollen with the remnants of their kiss, “what do you want to order ?”
Riptide pauses his buzzing, leachy thoughts. Stares at him. His lips part, “Oh my god, you asshole”
“What ?”, Serenity’s cheeks puff out in an indignant pout, and Riptide wants to reach across the table, grab him by the tantalizingly low V-neck of his shirt and kiss him until he’s a moaning mess, but he doesn’t – because enough people were levelling scandalized looks at them already without pouring twenty more cans of gasoline on the fire, “You liked it, didn’t you ?”
“That doesn’t – you can’t...”, Riptide sputters for a moment, cheeks lava-red, and lava-hot, “Fuck you”
“If you insist”, he shoots him a suggestive grin across the table and Riptide’s face was about to melt clean off, “Though I suspect you’d rather I don’t do it here, huh ?”
He reaches forward to playfully smack Serenity across the shoulder, only to falter and feel his breath catch painfully in his throat as the other man easily catches it, lacing their fingers together, something light and happy bursting across his face at the touch.
His stomach twists, that romance-twist that flushes his skin and makes him sweat, and as he looks down at their hands, he goes a little breathless, too, because he can’t believe that he’s holding a man’s hand in public.
He can’t believe that he’s holding his boyfriend’s hand in public.
He can’t believe that he has a boyfriend.
And from the stunned, breathy gasp that slips through Serenity’s lips, neither can he. A long pause, and then the other man’s thump rubs a small circle over the skin that stretched between his thumb and pointer, snapping him out of his thoughts
“Whatcha thinking about ?”, Serenity hummed, sounding a little breathless, a little excited. Riptide could relate
Riptide pauses. Thinks about saying “You”. Decides it’s too sappy to say in public. Remembers that they had made out in public not five seconds ago. Decides that hiding your emotions is for chumps, “You”
Serenity’s breath catches in his throat in a faint “hic” of noise, and he looks up with eyes so full of adorable surprise that Riptide desperately wants to kiss him again. A long second, and then the corners of his eyes go soft, so soft, so kind, “Is that... Is that good ?”
Riptide smiles, this stupidly gentle thing, and pulls the other man’s hand a little closer, causing him to lean forward, before he tilts down and pecks a kiss to Serenity’s warm, bony wrist--so quick, so soft, it’s almost like it never happened.
“Asshole”, he murmurs into the skin, in an almost reflex reaction to the kiss, and Serenity squeezes his hand, and Riptide chews his bottom lip and looks up at him with an expression that he thinks probably reveals all, if you know what you’re looking at
The service is slow, which isn’t surprising considering the restaurant’s so full.
The two of them play with each other’s fingers, even turning it into a thumb war once, as they talk about work and movies and music. Well, work. Mostly coded. Encrypted. Idly, Riptide wonders what the restaurant-full of people thought about their cousin Edna, who had apparently been through enough to put most veterans’ PTSD to shame
Even more idly, he wonders if they should come up with a better code name for Eagle
When the food comes – cake, because of course it is, it’s the fucking Cheesecake Factory, it was practically a capital offense to not order cake – they each give their connected hands a long mournful look
It was a single slice of Oreo Dream Extreme, which Riptide privately thought looked like a cookie drowned in frosting, but whatever, and the waitress brings two forks with it, giving them a fond look as she turns to leave. He wonders if she witnessed the kiss, too, or if they were just that obvious
Serenity looks at Riptide and plays with his fork, clearly thinking about how he’s having cake with his boyfriend, how the waitress had smiled at them like it was perfectly fine for him to have something like this. His eyes glisten slightly, and before Riptide is aware of it, he’s already reaching over the table to wipe away his tears
Serenity gives him a bashfully wide-eyed look, and it’s all Riptide can do to not stutter as he grumbles out, “Yeah, yeah, fuck off”
They eat the cake slice together, fucking around the whole time, battling forks, fighting over the Oreo on top, and debating who gets the mousse – it was Serenity for both, since Riptide was convinced he looked too thin to be in any way healthy.
“I’m just saying”, Riptide began, waving his frosting-dusted fork in a manner that could only be described as “pointed”, “you’re way too thin !! When’s the last time you ate properly ? 1995 ?”
“Oh my God”, Serenity let out a theatrical groan, stabbing disgruntedly at his share of the cake for a few seconds, before rolling his eyes and slicing off a miniscule triangle of mousse, shoving it in his mouth in one fluid motion, “There !! Happy ?”
Riptide smiles, a soft, curling thing, and he means it as he says, “Very”
They shuffle out of the Cheesecake Factory, stepping out into the cold night air. Evidently, it had started raining sometime earlier that night, a sprinkling, quick thing, for the ground is slick and shiny in the sun-yellow of the street lamps, and the earth is drenched in the sharp scent of coastal petrichor
The earth splashed below their feet as they walked, the wet, puddly stones reflecting the night sky above, peppered with the thin, pale pinpricks of the burning stars, the brilliant silver stamp of the moon, burning as a brand in the stillness of the night. Inky darkness pools in thick, viscous puddles all about them
They talk for a moment, but Serenity seems... different, somehow. Subdued, and distant, as if his mind were a thousand miles away, or years in the past. It takes only a few moments for the conversation to peter out into still silence, and Serenity barely seems to notice
So they remain in silence as they trudge down the street, broken only by the faint horns of cars on the expressway, laughter from far away. The distant noises of humanity
Nocturnal light spills down from the heavens, pouring over them both, all celestial and night-thin. It clings to the edges of Serenity’s form like the heavens themselves can’t help but worship this boy, the early-autumn-moon laying him in her silver silks and the stars kissing his hair, his long lashes.
Riptide’s breath catches in his throat and he averts his eyes. Looks back. Averts his eyes. Clenches his jaw
Serenity’s eyes are on him, and it’s almost unbearable. Riptide’s gaze skitters away, but he can still hear the gentle sawing of Serenity’s voice, as the raven-haired boy speaks, slow and shy, as if terrified of rejection – as if rejection, now, would shatter him irreversibly, “I...I wanted to show you something”
Riptide’s heart stutters in his chest at the soft plaintiveness in that melodious voice, and his eyes flick back upwards to alight on Serenity’s too-wide, too-eager ones. The other boy shapes starkly against the dark, all hard, bright edges. Starlight kisses his hair and the early-autumn moon lays him in silver. An otherworldly thing, he looks, a creature of sharped steel and sorrow. His hands are in his pockets.
They’re surrounded in street lamps, and not much else – a small outcropping in the sidewalk, jutting over the brink, thrusting out into the too-cold night air, the cityscape glimmering up at them from the bank of shadows at the base of the hill, shaded in warm contrasts, its popping colors glowing neon in the darkness. The noises of humanity are muted to almost nothingness here, rendered soft and silent ripples in the air
However, where they stand, lies only the slow, puddling smeariness of sodium vapor, and the trickling, inspid blue-silver of the stars. To his left stands Serenity, and darkness seems to puddle in great shadowy pools about his feet.
His lips part, colored a dried-rose pink in the soft light of the street lamps, yellow lamplight puddling in the sharp hollows of his face like liquid gold, “When I was young...”, he begins, in a soft, feathered voice, and Riptide’s breath catches in his throat again, “I was alone. Well, no... not..”, he drew in a rattling breath, before conceding, “...not entirely. Caz was there. Always there. But there was only so much she could do. Mostly ? I was alone. And so I... came up with this world. An endless sandy beach. Endless sun. Waves lapping at the seashore. And I escaped there... whenever”, the words clung to his throat like rotting flesh, “...everything... got too much”
A long momen, and then he chanced a glance upwards, eyes meeting Riptide’s confused gaze. His lips quirked further upwards, “Caz believed it was a... metaphorical thing. Psychological. Imaginary”, he shook his head, a slow, measured motion, “...she was wrong”
Riptide paused. Blinked, as a cool breeze wafted past their face, scented with salt and seaspray, fresh and sweet and warm, tinged with the heat of the sun. The sun, that was nowhere to be spotted in the sky. A moment, and his eyes blew wide, his lips curving into an “O” of surprise
He had heard of this before. A second trigger. When the host suffers such incredible, indescribable pain, that the universe itself seems to take pity on them, to grant them a secondary power. Riptide isn’t sure whether to laugh or cry
Serenity’s lips twisted wryly, his head dropping into an almost-miserable-looking smile, as his hands flex, before abruptly moving. His fingers rise and the street lamps bleed gold and yellow and white all over them. Shaded in their smeared glow, he looks like a burning thing
His voice is faint, but it carries, echoing through the crags and crevices of the hillside, off the concrete planes and sharp, cutting corners of the brutalist buildings that surround them. Somewhere in the distance, a phantom bell tolls, loud and resonant, “The sound of the Gion Shoja bells echo the truth that all life must end”
His fingers twist, thumbs and the very tips of his index fingers pressing together, the rest of his fingers splayed apart. The curving whorls inscribed into their soft-looking pads darken, leaking shadow down his arms in trickling threads of pale gray, fuzzy and hazy, like a build-up of dust, “The color of the sala flower reveals that to flourish is to fall”
His fingers press together, splaying out to make way for his palms. The threads of dusty gray seem to darken, somewhat, and Riptide catches a whiff of something cold and sweet in the air, ice water and strawberry rot, “The strong do not endure, a dream on the night of spring”
And finally, he pulls his hands apart, fingers of each hand stiff and rigid, pressed together like a Hamsa, the palms floating about five inches apart. His lips part, and a boundless darkness seemed to swirl inside his mouth, writhing shadows pressing against the backs of his teeth. At least, that’s what Riptide saw, before a hazy grayness seemed to envelop everything in a bank of thick, smokey fog. It obscured his vision, but still Riptide could make out the hard edges of Serenity’s figure through its hazy opaqueness. It dampened all noise, but still Riptide could hear the final line of the incantation, sharp and clear as if Serenity had spoken it directly into his ear, “The dauntless must wither, to become dust in the wind”
When the hazy grayness finally recedes, the first thing Riptide notices is the brightness that lay against Serenity’s skin – not the smeary glare of the street lamps, but something warmer, softer. Daylight, that puddled lazily against his form, ran down his sharp edges in trails of honey gold, highlighting him and flowing about his form like the halo of a saint
Serenity looks softer, in this cloudy lighting. It sands his sharp edges and dusts his colors into something more pastel. The black of his hair shades gray, and the striking edges of his features become less stark. Even the worried line of his frown looks soft like this. His lips are dried-rose pink.
The second thing he notices is the fact that there was sand beneath his feet, shifting as he shifted in place, as the hazy grayness of Serenity’s powers withdrew to linger at the corners of his vision in barely-visible splotches of feathered blurriness
As his eyes dropped, he noticed the stretch of sand that lay beneath his feet, shining like gold in the brilliant sun, curving off into the distance – a never-ending beach – dotted with palm trees that were almost certainly out-of-place here. To his right stood the lush greenery of an endless forest, colors rich and green, almost abnormally so
His powers told him that there was no water here, but to his left, an endless ocean lapped at the curving edge of the beach, surface held as smooth and polished as a mirror, gleaming sapphire in the golden sun, not even a ripple spreading across its surface. In fact, it looked like it was barely moving at all
But there was something off. The blue of the water was too bright, the yellow of the sand too pale, the green of the forest too smeared-together. And, as his eyes rise to where Serenity was pointedly looking away from him, a faint dusting of pink peppering the high tops of his cheeks, the sun was too smooth, less a burning star, and more a ball of molten gold hanging in the sky
The sun, that hung high in the sky, and yet poured down none of its burning fire. The sun, that at this time of the day should be coloring the sky a burning blue-raspberry, but instead was embedded into a sky as fleshy and pink as a sunrise
The whole thing looked like a child’s approximation of a beach. The whole thing looked like something a child, hurt and alone, would come up with as an escape from all his pain
This wasn’t a real beach, and this wasn’t a real world. This was something... inner. Almost like a....
His lips part, but Serenity beats him to the chase, “Make a Jujutsu Kaisen reference and I will kick you out”, he warns, and his voice is candy-soft and sweet. Riptide feels his heart warm at its sound
“Alright, alright”, he huffs out a quiet laugh, the sound echoing oddly in the not-real beach air, before shuffling slightly, feeling the imaginary sand shift around his feet, “Honestly, I’m surprised you don’t use...”, he gestures vaguely, “...this... as a Domain Expansion more often”
“Can’t”, Serenity muttered, refusing to meet Riptide’s eyes, his blush deepening into streaks of crimson, lying dark and gleaming against his pale skin, “Only people I.... t-trust”, his voice caught on that word, and Riptide felt his heart stutter slightly, “...can be brought in here”
Riptide stared wordlessly for a moment, his chest feeling tight and painful, before a single, choked-off sound slipped past his lips, “Oh”
“Yeah”, Serenity scratched sheepishly at the back of his head, and the air seemed to smear around his arm as he moved it, space distorting into blurry ripples of smeared graininess, like he were moving his arm through water, the colors of the backdrop running together like drips and trails of wet paint on a painting, greens melding with yellows with blues.
A moment later, the colors seemed to straighten out, the bleed petering out into nothing, ripples smoothing out like wrinkles in cloth, until finally, the undisturbed vista of the beach stared back at him once more
“I’ve”, his eyes flicker over to the other man, and Riptide can’t help but suck in a sharp breath at the sheer beauty of them. Here, in his own little world, the molten gold of his illusory sun glinted off the ice-blue of his irises, making them gleam, sharp and cold and brilliant, like the edge of shattered glass, like all the ocean, all at once, like the galaxy, but blue. His eyes are multilayered, made of reflections and refractions, fragmented shades of blue. Honed. Intense. Unlike every other part of him, his eyes are not softened in the cloudy lighting, they remain severe as ever, bright and sharp as the edge of shattered glass.
Because they reflected the truth of him – all that hurt and cold and pain he kept pressed down and hidden in his heart, like trying to hold back the flood. Because Serenity had always considered himself Atlas, trying to hold up the sky. But the sky was not a holdable thing
His lips part, dried-rose curves lifting into a faint ‘O’, delicate and fragile, “I’ve never brought anyone... here, before. Never been able to bring anyone here, before.Never... trusted anyone enough for it”. His eyes are fixed on Riptide, as if he still wasn’t entirely able to reconcile this – the sight of someone else, standing in the gates of his soul, submerged in the depths of his heart
Serenity looked away for a moment, staring out, across the boundless blue of his ocean, red peppering the high arches of his cheekbones, before finally turning back to him, “Yeah”, he said, after a long moment, “I...I... trust you. Riptide, I... I....”, his voice falters, before he seems to steel himself, “...I love you”
Something wet slicked against Riptide’s skin, and the ice-water strawberry-rot scent of the air took on a freezing quality. The cool touch of the water seems to snap Serenity out of his trance-like state, and one of his hand lifted to his face, coming away glistening wet, “...ah. It’s raining again”
Riptide blinked, trying his best to ignore the catch of his heart in the hollow his chest, the way it stuttered against the bars of his ribcage, beating out a staccato pulse of desire and love and longing, grateful for the distraction, “Rain ?”
“This beach is an illusory realm”, Serenity said, his voice soft and faint, more water slicking soundlessly against his skin, his khaki-green T-shirt streaked with dark streaks of wet, “How permeable the barriers to it are depends almost entirely on what I want”
“And you... didn’t block out the rainfall ?”
“No”, he shook his head, a stuttery, faint motion, looking up to meet Riptide’s eyes, his voice catching for a moment, before continuing, “I... it seemed rather pointless. We’re only becase... well, because I wanted to... show you. My soul. My self. My heart. Because you... um... you showed me yours. Yesterday”
Riptide simply stares for a moment. His heart feels so full that he’s sure he’s seconds from drowning in it. The water trickling against his skin is cool and icy, a stark contrast to endless rose-pink of the perpetual sunset sky, the molten golden sphere of the sun
Serenity looks pointedly away, “Sorry, that’s... I guess that’s pretty cheesy, huh ? Igno-“
And then Riptide was moving forward, before Serenity could react, and his lips were dipping down to press against Serenity’s, soft and gentle, and Serenity tasted so good against his tongue, sweet like strawberry lip-balm, and the rich bite of the chocolate cake they had just had, and the other man’s lips were parting under his, and –
And there were flowers blooming at his feet, brushing against his ankles, impossibly pushing their green stems and brilliant petals through the golden sands, the rubied bleed of red rose, the golden gleam of ambrosia, the deep purple of aster, and a hundred feathered white silhouettes of balsam.
He draws back, breaking the kiss apart, much to his own dismay, “I love you too”, his heart catches in his throat. For a moment, Serenity looks stunned
All around them, the golden sands of the beach are dusted a faint rose-quartz in the perpetual sunset. Pink like dried rose. Pink like valentine’s hearts. Pink like the blush suffusing Serenity’s pale skin
And before Riptide could part his lips, could ask if Serenity was okay with that, his lips are on his, sweet and sharp and cold, “I love you like that too”, he says into the corner of Riptide’s lips, and he feels like crying, “I love you too”
And overhead, the fleshy pink of the sky splits apart, edges hazy and gray as it slowly separates into a receding dome to reveal the stormy sky beyond, rendered in patchy blacks and grays. The cold scent of rain grew stronger, but Riptide hardly cared. All that existed in the world was the softness of Serenity’s lips on his, his earthen scent, his soft skin. All that mattered was him
Overhead, a shower of glittering water dripped down onto them, slicking against their skin, though the sand at their feet remained as dry as ever, a curtain of glistening wetness, rendered in translucent rainbows from the molten gold sunlight passing through its thin surface
And in the distance, a thundercrack sounds, and white flashes of lightning fork through the black patchy clouds, spearing the final traces of the illusory beach, burning it up, as the sand beneath Riptide’s feet fades into wet, puddly stone, and suddenly they’re standing by the corner of the street once again, and Serenity’s lips are on Riptide’s and his back is pressing into the railing keeping them from falling of the cliff, the metal sharp and cold through the thin, wet fabric of his T-shirt
The rain building in the clouds begins to spill over. It’s no longer just a sprinkle. All around them, the asphalt tap-tap-taps with droplets. The sky isn’t a holdable thing, it’s liquid, it’s storms and rain. And if Serenity kept trying to hold him up, he would surely drown
But that was fine. His eyes closed, and he pressed hard into the kiss, tasting the iced strawberry taste of Serenity’s tongue against his, cool and sharp, sweet as chocolate. That was fine. His fist clenched, and the raindrops hammering against them froze in mid-air, hanging like crystal beads inches from their skin
That was fine, because Riptide was there, would always be there, to breathe air into his lungs, to protect him, like he protected so many
Axiomatic truths were things that were so sure, so true, so known, that they were the philosophical baseline. They were the things you could be sure of, when you were sure of nothing else. When the solid truths of your world – parents are meant to protect their kids, children are meant to be loved – start to fall away, you could always rely on them
Here are some of them, some of the truths that Riptide relies on. The sun will always rise. The tide will always fall. And Riptide will always love Serenity

Tag someone you want to know better OR just want to say hello to!
I was tagged by @uweiy thank you for tagging me~
Favourite color: Purples and Blues 💜💙 although I do also like greens 💚
Last song: Contact Redux by Trocadero (Feat. Meredith Hagan), but I have Bullet by IMY2 stuck in my head, so that's sort of ongoing?
Last movie: Carnifex, an Australian creature horror, though it is a slow build for two thirds of the movie. (Not based on the book of the same name, though it does share a name and 'monster')
Currently watching: My Group Watch is currently doing Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, which is a rewatch for me but so good, and I'm also making my way through Lady in the Butcher's House. Oh, and I'm also in season 3 of Battlestar Galactica (2004)
Currently reading: Mostly fanfiction at the moment, I just got back into an old fandom I haven't been in for over a decade, so I'm making my way through that, though if we're talking books, I'm technically most of the way through one of the A Song of Ice and Fire books, but I haven't picked it up in months because the fandom is just so unbelievably toxic and it does impact the reading experience. Been thinking about re-reading Kenobi.
Currently working on: *nervous laughter* I drew a bird the other day, wrote a fic for the roulette in august which was my first real fanwork of the year, I haven't been very creative lately. I either have nothing, or my brain is doing ping-pong against the inside of my skull with all the thoughts, I think I'm in burn out rn tbh, kinda want to work on some original stories, but, uh.... yeah...
Currently obsessed with: Agent Washington of Red Vs Blue fame. Some of y'all might have noticed 😅
Tagging @none-sex-left-gay @clockworkspider @vyther15 @favvnsongs if an of y'all are feeling it

Magic Rambling
So I’m back talking about my Winx Club au Dragon’s Flame and Tempest’s flare again. Inspiration hit again after re reading through @dragonflyxparodies‘s A Fable, Agreed Upon series linked here: https://archiveofourown.org/series/2165049. @drops-of-moonlights Winx Redux AU @emsartwork Winxems and retreading the fic Feel Like a Fraud by @dorkwingdad link here:https://archiveofourown.org/works/29289360/chapters/71924991. Please check their works out they are seriously amazing, they deserve your support. (I hope you guys don’t mind the pings) This is a long post and is practically an essay I’m warning y’all now.
Types of Casters
So all people who can wield magic in any capability is known as a Caster, even if the only thing a person can really do with their magic is levitate small objects they are still a Caster. A more advanced Caster will eventually be categorized into either Witch, Fairy, or Wizard, ones gender or Homeward has a small influence of what category they will become but it is not cut and dry. For example Wizard is a masculine coded word Wizards can be Female or Feminine presenting.
The distinction between Wizard, Witch and Fairy depends on how the Caster uses magic to perform spells whether they draw on the ambient magic around them or draw from their internal magic reserve. Witches and Fairies tend to draw on their internal magic reserves while Wizards draw from the ambient magic around them.
Fairies and Witches can use any type of spell any where they want while Wizards are limited by the ambient magical energy they have available at their current location. A Wizard is going to be shit out of luck trying to use a Fire spell in a tundra or underwater. A Wizard can use other spells than whats available near them if they have enough but wizards on average have smaller internal magic reserves than Fairies or Witches, which is why Wizards draw on their environment. This also means that Wizards are most effective in Magic rich areas where there is a lot of ambient Magic they can utilize. Witches and Fairies draw from their internal magic reserves a majority of the time with the main difference between the two is the pull to get that magic working in the first place.
The main big deciding factors are Intent, Choice, Temperament, and Emotion. Intent is simple, what is the magic being used for? The Intent helps shape the magic if the same spell is performed with different intents the spell is going to have slight but noticeable differences. A ball of magic thrown with the intent to hurt an opponent is going to be more condensed, making it harder to dispel before contact and when it makes contact is going to hit with a harder impact due to the magic energy being confined to a smaller area. A ball of magic thrown to knock a projectile off course, to push an ally or civilian out of harms way, or to simply bind an object in place is going to be looser in form being larger on average wrapping around the target to knock it off course spreading the impact over a larger area so less damage is done on impact.
The Intent of a Caster and what they do with their magic is one of the biggest factors on whether they are classified as a Witch or Fairy. This main Intent being a big core of who they are as a person.. Do they wish to use their power to protect or to harm? A Witch working as a doctor could have the intent of hurting and destroying harmful bacteria, viruses, and parasites. A Guardian Fairy could have the intent of protecting their planet and home from whatever threat shows up with no regards for the consequences of their actions as long as those consequences have no bearing on their home. Casters with main intents based around hurting or destroying have a higher chance of being Witches while Casters with Intents based around protecting or healing have a higher chance of being Fairies. Intents that doing fall into the above category tend. to be more of a case to case basis on whether or not the Caster is a Witch or Fairy.
Some spells of both Witch magic and Fairy magic have certain emotional triggers that are required to cast that spell successfully, a Caster’s temperament kind of decides what emotional triggers are easiest for them to use. A caster who is a ray of sunshine will find positive triggers easier, while an Oscar the grouch will find negative triggers easier.
Choice is the most important factor since it trumps all the other factors, since Casters fit into the categories or Witch, Fairy or Wizard each of those terms being essentially a label or title for what type of magic a Caster is the most adept in. Given the right circumstances any type of Caster can perform any type of magic. It's this active voice on each individual Caster’s part why schools like Cloud Tower, and Alfea exist, so young casters who are learning magic have an environment where they can learn the magic they want to learn and have adults who are there to teach them. Some Casters are homeschooled having access to a community that will teach them the magic they want to learn.
Homeworlds
Homeworlds are planets that when the Great Dragon was creating everything there was enough Magic contained in the matter that would form planets that those planets formed a “soul” of their own. Some planets did not form souls but were still able to support life Earth and Domino are examples. Once sentient life started using magic it created a feedback loop with the homeworld, the types of magic the people prefer slowly affected the homeward and the type of magic its ‘soul’ is aligned with affecting its plants and animals and the cultures of its people which affects what types of magic they prefer leading to a self perpetuating cycle that lead to the Homeworlds we see today.
Domino does not have a soul but it does have the Great Dragon, who gave the sentient people of Domino its blessing in the form of its Creation and Fire magic. The Great Dragon is aware of everything but chooses not to influence the world of mortals. It gives and takes away its power as it sees fit, The Domino royal family had the Dragons favor and had a much larger blessing compared to their countrymen. So when the Ancestral Witches attacked Domino it personally made sure those three suffered for their arrogance and greed. The witches are responsible for Domino being forgotten as an unfortunate side affect of their attack on Domino the Dark Magic locked away many memories of those who were not directly involved any records that were based in magic about Domino were destroyed leaving most physical records of it the only ones remaining being old books which were no longer a main source of information, while people who were directly involved had some of their memories altered which when compounded with the issue with the records made Domino’s fall seem a lot older then it actually was.
Earth never had anything like that most of its magic is ambient magic from immigrant Casters and magical creatures. Earth does not have a soul in the present day but possibly several millennia in the future could gain one.
Types of Magic
Magic comes in different elements some are simple like wind, fire, light, water, or electricity while some are more complex and atypical, illusion, sound, gravity, null, metal. The categories of Fairy, Wizard and Witch serving as an alignment chart. A caster or magical creature having a magical core of just 1 element is incredibly rare.

Defeat them to extinguish the fire. The man will introduce himself as Fu Xi. He also states that Sun Wukong is also from the mystic realm like himself, working for a half-man, half-demon, Kiyomori Taira, to recruit troops for his army. Their plan is to revive Orochi.
Break through the northern gate out of the forest and defeat Sun Wukong to win the battle.
In the aftermath, Kanetsugu takes Sakon to Kenshin. He agrees to join Sakon along with the others. Fu Xi also complements Sakon for uniting the Takeda and Uesugi, saying that he is the one who can stop Orochi’s resurrection. He also joins Sakon as atonement for “testing” him.

Sakon suggests having Masamune join his army along with Nobunaga. However, Kanetsugu believes that Masamune is still loyal to Orochi. Sakon decides to have Shingen set off for Changban in order to convince Masamune to join them.
Motonari Mōri will appear in place of Sima Yi in this battle and therefore, will not be unlocked when the battle is cleared in this version. Takakage Kobayakawa will appear in place of Dōkyū Yamagami in the ambush unit alongside Kojūrō Katakura.
In the aftermath, Shingen talks to Masamune, but he declines the offer, saying that no one has been able to keep the peace since Orochi’s death. Shingen gives the bad news to Sakon, who then remembers that there is someone that they can ask. Kanetsugu reports that Lu Bu and Kiyomori have joined forces and are laying waste to the men of Wu. Kanbei Kuroda appears in place of Sima Yi for this battle. Han Dang will be replaced by another Wu generic officer when reinforcements arrive.
Lu Lingqi and Hou Cheng will appear with Chen Gong’s reinforcements when they arrive.
In the aftermath, Lu Meng and Gan Ning will join Sakon’s army on behalf of Wu.
Chapter 14: Battle of Hulao Gate 虎牢関の戦い
Coalition Army and Toyotomi Army vs. Taira Army Allied characters: Katsuyori Takeda, Sakon Shima, Guan Ping, Toyohisa Shimazu Third-party characters: Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Nene, Masanori Fukushima, Kiyomasa Katō, Hanbei Takenaka, Mitsunari Ishida Enemy characters: Kiyomori Taira, Diamondback, Sun Wukong, Hisahide Matsunaga
Unlocked characters: Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Nene, Mitsunari Ishida, Hanbei Takenaka, Kiyomasa Katō, Masanori Fukushima
Sakon moved to the next phase of his plan. He set off with Guan Ping and Toyohisa Shimazu to gain the cooperation of Hideyoshi Toyotomi. They spot Kiyomori and Dong Zhuo up ahead at Hulao Gate.
As I stated previously, Nobunaga Oda originally appeared in both the Wei and Samurai Warriors stories for Part B, which is illogical and it robs Mitsunari Ishida of any relevance; in addition, it also robs Hideyoshi Toyotomi of prominence as he was only seen in the original games as an underling of Nobunaga. As such, Nobunaga and Nō only appear in the Wei story, leaving Hideyoshi and Mitsunari for the Samurai Warriors story.
Zhang Ren does not appear in this battle. Toyohisa Shimazu and Yoshihisa Shimazu will swap places in this battle, meaning the former will be defending the main camp alongside Guan Ping while the latter advances with Sakon.
The Hōjō officers among the enemy are replaced by Mōri officers and Hisahide Matsunaga will appear in place of Dong Zhuo.
When the Toyotomi Army arrives, Mitsunari Ishida, Masanori Fukushima and Kiyomasa Katō will appear alongside Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Nene and Hanbei Takenaka.
In the aftermath, Hideyoshi joins Sakon’s army. Sakon asks him to assist Mitsunari and Kenshin at Baidi Castle.
Chapter 15: Battle of Baidi Castle 白帝城の戦い
Coalition Army vs. Taira Army Allied characters: Kenshin Uesugi, Kagekatsu Uesugi, Aya, Mitsunari Ishida, Masanori Fukushima, Kiyomasa Katō, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Nene, Hanbei Takenaka, Hideie Ukita, Muneshige Tachibana, Lu Meng, Gan Ning Enemy characters: Kiyomori Taira, Sun Wukong, Dong Zhuo, Kotarō Fūma
The alliance to prevent the resurrection of Orochi was finally complete. In response, Kiyomori quietly concentrated his forces at Baidi Castle. Believing that Kiyomori was now attempting to revive Orochi, Sakon immediately ordered Hideyoshi and Kenshin to attack Baidi Castle…
Kenshin, Kagekatsu and Aya will advance to Baidi Castle from the east, Mitsunari, Masanori and Kiyomasa will advance from the south and Hideyoshi, Nene and Hanbei will advance from the west. Muneshige Tachibana, Lu Meng and Gan Ning will appear as the ambush troops engaging Dong Zhuo’s officers in the central path to the northwest.
Defeat Kiyomori to win the battle, but he will say that it is too late…
In the aftermath, Sakon is depressed over his failure to prevent Orochi’s resurrection, but Fu Xi convinces Sakon to put his final plan in place to defeat Orochi. Shingen accepts Sakon’s offer to join him again on the battlefield.
Chapter 16: Battle of Sekigahara 関ヶ原の戦い
Coalition Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Shingen Takeda, Sakon Shima, Fu Xi Enemy characters: Orochi X, Da Ji, Masamune Date, Kojūrō Katakura, Hisahide Matsunaga, Motonari Mōri, Takakage Kobayakawa
Unlocked characters: Kiyomori Taira
Some variations have been made for the Chapter 16 battles against Orochi X. In each faction’s version, they will fight four of Orochi’s main generals. In this version of the battle, those generals will be Da Ji, Masamune Date, Hisahide Matsunaga and Motonari Mōri.
Orochi had been resurrected and was surrounded by Da Ji and Masamune. The final battle lay ahead at Sekigahara…
Hisahide Matsunaga will appear in place of Keiji Maeda with his sneak attack unit in the northwest. At the same time, Motonari Mōri and Takakage Kobayakawa will also appear with their sneak attack unit in the centre. Due to the fog around Sekigahara, both sneak attack units will reveal themselves as they approach the main camp.
Defeat Da Ji and the officers outside the enemy camp, then enter the camp and defeat Orochi X to win the battle.

I am very inspired to make Df oc based on your df ideas!!!!
By all means, go ahead! Feel free to take what ideas you like and leave what you don't. I redux close to canon so there's nothing that I really 'own' about the idea of having a Dark Forest that has more shades-of-gray type characters.
Ping me if you do so I can see your guys!
#And god ESPECIALLY ping me if you guys are ever inspired to draw a CotC character based off my reduxing#I'm starved for CloudberryxRyewhisker content#My tragic lovers please I'm dying

In the early 1970s, a kung-fu dynamo named Bruce Lee side-kicked his way onto the screen and straight into pop-culture immortality. With his magnetic screen presence, tightly coiled intensity, and superhuman martial-arts prowess, Lee was an icon who conquered both Hong Kong and Hollywood cinema, and transformed the art of the action film in the process. This collection brings together the five films that define the Lee legend: furiously exciting fist-fliers propelled by his innovative choreography, unique martial-arts philosophy, and whirlwind fighting style. Though he completed only a handful of films while at the peak of his stardom before his untimely death at age thirty-two, Lee left behind a monumental legacy as both a consummate entertainer and a supremely disciplined artist who made Hong Kong action cinema a sensation the world over.

Ignite (Redux); Ch. 1 of 5ish
Pairings: Kylo Ren x Reader
Genre/Ratings: currently T for severely injured reader
Words: 2250
Summary: After an accident aboard Starkiller Base, someone unexpected proves invaluable.
This is a rewrite of Ignite, which I published two-ish years ago. I thought I could put more into it than I did initially, and soon enough this one chapter was more words than the whole original idea. Same story, incredibly expanded upon. Enjoy!
You sigh as you scroll through your daily schedule that’s pinged into your datapad. Apparently a fresh crop of newbie engineers has been recruited, and now you’ve got to teach them how to not blow themselves up- or more crucially, not blow up the expensive TIE Fighters that cost more than your entire life is worth. Joy oh joy. Really, you prefer to work alone- you’re a senior engineer aboard Starkiller base, you don’t need anyone to double check your work (or worse, mucking it up). But as long as the rookie knows their place and doesn’t cross wires they aren’t supposed to, things should- should- be okay.
Hopefully. Maybe. Fingers crossed.
You pull on your uniform, doing up the buttons and fastening the buckles; your tool belt, a beautiful piece of leather that’s been worn enough to be molded precisely to your waist, gets secured in its place of honor across your hips. After tracking down your pesky gloves and tucking them into the top of your work boots so you don’t lose them for the millionth time, you join the ebb and flow of traffic constantly racing though Starkiller’s veins and head for the flight deck.
It’s a decent trek- base is huge, and nowhere you’re heading is ever anywhere near everywhere else. It’s become something of a tradition to mentally curse whoever designed this bucket of bolts as you follow hallway after hallway, trying to keep pace with those around you. Would it have killed them to put in some moving walkways? Maybe a more direct path through the ducts? At least that way you’d be able to avoid all the upper-crust officers on your way to work, and their holier-than-thou stares as they eye your patched elbows and stained pants. Chuckling to yourself, you pat the nearest metal archway, mentally apologizing to your pride and joy. Starkiller is, ultimately, a feat of engineering, and the fact that you get to crawl around in her walls and find what makes her tic is a pleasure, no matter how finicky she gets- or how snotty the officers become.
In the corner of your eye, you can tell that the corridor has suddenly emptied, startlingly silent of stormtrooper boots or the quiet mumbling of messengers running to and fro. Rather than following suit and making yourself scarce, you purposefully slow your gait and linger, letting your fingers trace along the seams of the polished walls.
Not a minute later, Kylo Ren comes stalking around the corner, boots thumping menacingly along his path and cape fluttering behind him. He doesn’t seem phased by the sudden clearing of his path- he probably comes to expect it by now. It’s not like he demands it; people just seem too frightened of the Commander to even do something as simple as walk in the same corridor as him.
You can’t really blame them. He’s a six-foot-something space wizard in all black and an incredibly intimidating mask. Rumor has it he isn’t afraid to cut you in half with a lightsaber if you so much as breathe wrong in his direction- and to be fair, a lot of those rumors are true, given how frequently you’re called to patch up medical equipment in the infirmary.
“Am I interrupting something?” The Commander’s voice comes out heavily synthesized through his visor, but you could swear there’s a touch of teasing in it as he watches you run a hand over some welding.
You grin at him. “No, sir, just having a little moment of appreciation.” You comically pat the metal next to you, as though assessing a prize cow.
Normally you wouldn’t dare joke around with a senior officer, but despite his fearful reputation, the Knight has always seemed… different, to you. In command, yes, but not quite part of command. The rest of base always runs whenever he heads in their direction. Even his infamous Knights of Ren seem just a touch too cautious around their leader to include him in the camaraderie you’ve seen them demonstrate in the mess hall when he’s not around. He’s a true loner, sitting solitaire in meetings and speaking to no one except to yell orders; a black phantom haunting the hallways with rumors flying left and right in his wake.
You made the decision a long time ago to not be afraid of the man. He has to know that not everyone sees him as some sort of grim reaper, no matter what people might whisper. “How are you today, sir?”
Despite you making it a point to ask him this every time you see him, he still seems taken aback whenever he hears it. Like he’s shocked someone is speaking to him in pleasant terms. “I am fine. And you?”
“Just peachy!” You gesture down the hallway. “Are you going this way?”
He nods briefly, and so the two of you start off together, only close enough to barely be associated as acquaintances. The stares you get are numerous, but you always feel just a tad more confident with the Commander at your side. You suppose it must look a bit comical- the dark knight and a tiny engineer marching through base like they own the place. But you’re grateful for the company, silent as it is, and you tell yourself he must be too- otherwise, why give you the time of day? You’re not anyone important.
You know Commandeer Ren notices all the attention the two of you get- you can tell by the way he has to keep his fists from clenching up; struggle to keep his gait even. Briefly, you wonder if the reason he wears a mask is so his emotions won’t run amok across his face. It’s certainly easy enough to read the rest of him, if you bother looking.
“Are you not afraid of me?”
You stop short, surprised. Even when he seems to be in a good mood, he rarely says anything. “No sir, I’m not. Should I be?”
“Yes,” he says flatly. Just, yes, as though that’s the only possible answer to his question.
“Well… just don’t come at me with your fancy glowstick, and I think we’ll be alright, yeah?” You offer him an easy grin, instinctively reaching out to tap him playfully on the shoulder before you remember who you’re talking to- it quickly gets withdrawn. He simply stares at you, and you’re unsure if you’ve just doomed yourself to a cold and miserable fate on Hoth. “I’ll see you later?”
He just turns and stalks away, and you sigh, shoving your hands in your pockets. He never answers that one. Which, to be fair, he probably has much more important things to do than run around entertaining some random engineer. Still, he never blows you off though, even when you’re rambling or asking too many questions- he might not answer the questions, but he doesn’t tell you to shut up either.
Truth is, you’re a bit fascinated with the man. He’s an enigma, a mystery, and your whole life you’ve been trained to solve mysteries; pull out the broken pieces and wind it all back together again even better than the day it was brand new. You can only hope someday that helmet of his will short circuit and you’ll get a chance to take a crack at it.
You have to pull yourself away from watching Ren’s retreating back, refocusing on your job. Rookie to train. TIE Fighters to tune up. Right.
It’s pretty easy to spot your trainee- he’s tentatively poking around a TIE the way you do when you want to look like you know what you’re doing, but in actuality you’re three seconds away from seriously messing something up. When he gnaws his lip and reaches for a panel of circuitry, you step in- “OKAY! Let’s back away from that, shall we?”
Startled, he knocks himself away from the board he’s studying. “Right! Right. Uh, sorry.”
You gingerly close the panel back up and push him a few steps away from the battleship, then wipe your hands on your pants and hold out a hand. “I’m Y/N. I’ll be your supervisor for the day. Rule number one? Don’t touch anything unless you know for certain what it is, what’s wrong with it, how to fix it, and all the ways it can kill you if your finger slips.”
The kid’s cheeks pale a bit. “Right. I’m Cale.”
“Wonderful. Don’t blow anybody up and don’t put our heads under the general’s fist, and I’m sure we’ll get along great.” You tug on your gloves, tighten the cord securing your hair, and put a hand on your hip. “First thing’s first- how much do you know about twin ion engine ships?”
You spend the better part of your shift going over every inch of the craft in front of you, as well as the science that makes it run and the parts that need hands on them more often than not. “…and this is the engine itself. It destabilizes xenon gas and uses the resulting broken-off electron for thrust. Xenon gas is ideal because for the most part, it’s completely inert- fireproof, explosion-proof, etcetera. As long as it’s converted back to a stable state before it’s exuded by the engine, it’s pretty safe. But you should still be extremely cautious when working on the engine itself. Obviously. It’s worth more than we ever will be.” You press your wrist to your forehead, trying to think of anything you missed. “Okay. Any questions?”
“…No?”
“Cool.” You check your datapad. “This one needs new electrostatic grids. Xenon gas is fairly corrosive. Check with me before you do anything, and we’ll get to work, okay?”
Other than the occasional question here and there and getting used to someone hanging over your shoulder watching you tinker, you settle into a wonderfully familiar routine. Your fingers fly like they have a mind of their own, effortlessly making the rig in front of you shine like it did when it first came off the line.
“-so what do you do here, anyways?”
You shake your head, pulled from the flow of work- “um, little bit of everything? I got promoted to senior a few years ago so I’m called all over base. I work a lot with command and their personal rigs and equipment.”
You can’t see Cale’s face, but you can hear the curiosity in his voice. “You work with General Hux?”
“Yes. He’s just as…intense, as everyone makes him out to be. But thus far I’m not on his bad side and I plan to keep it that way, so I’m not saying anything else about it.”
“What about-” he pauses, like he’s looking over his shoulder to make sure no one else in the massively busy hangar is listening in- “Kylo Ren?”
You wedge a particularly tight support into place with a grunt. “What about him?”
“Is he really insane? I heard that-”
“No,” you say harshly. “And you shouldn’t believe everything you hear. He’s a person, just like everyone else, okay?” Christ, the rumor mill is as exhausting as it is useless.
Thankfully, something on your tool belt starts beeping and you can focus on that. A little indicator light is flashing orange, harsh and neon. “Interesting.”
Cale pops his head out from underneath the ship. “What’s beeping?”
“This monitors the air quality; lets us know if the composition of gases gets unbalanced. It generally means there’s a leak somewhere.” You glance at what you’d doing. More electrostatic grids. “What are you working on down there?”
“Oh, a few tanks were too pressurized, so I released the valves a bit to relieve those.”
You blanch. “The xenon canisters?”
“Um… maybe?”
Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck. Just before you can hit the alarm button, you see a spark from a nearby welder flicker- it arcs to the floor almost in slow motion, one small bit of fire promising catastrophe. If you’re lucky, it won’t catch- it will fall harmlessly to the floor and extinguish, giving you time to alert others, clear the area, and reset things when proper ventilation has made the area safe.
But when have you ever been lucky?
All you see is red. You’re awash in it, swimming in it, drowning until your whole being is nothing but scarlet and an unholy, white-hot, supernova blue. You’re in the heart of an exploding star, witnessing the birth of the universe, and it’s just as beautiful as you’d imagine the very atoms of space rearranging themselves would be.
Then there’s stillness. The colors fade. It’s not silent- no, there’s a ringing in your ears, and somewhere very, very far away something like an alarm. And then- pain.
Oh, the pain. It flashes through your nerves like lightning, so intense you almost can’t comprehend all the little nuances screaming across every inch of your body. Joining the ringing and the far, distant sound of klaxon alarms comes a high-pitched, desperate sort of scream. You turn to help whoever it is- you raise a hand in front of you, only to see rapidly singing flesh. It’s you. You’re the one screaming. You’re the one on fire.
Sprawled on the floor of the hangar, vaguely aware of everything and nothing, hoarsely begging for this to stop, stopstopstop please make this stop, you wonder just for one second if the tall cloaked figure at the other end of the room is a hallucination or wish fulfillment or both.
You lose consciousness before you can come to a decision.

VI: And In Time These Things Shall Be Revealed
Tasha doesn’t think she can ever get used to this. She’s heading down the lab, right where Donald said he and Douglas will be, and just the act of standing still makes her feel like she will explode. Her husband didn’t give much information over the phone. All he said was that she needed to get back home, something happened, Chase was hurt, and Leo was kidnapped.
Her mind keeps zeroing in on those things: Leo kidnapped, Chase hurt.
She feels like she would pass out with how lit her nerves are with these alarming developments.
She thinks she might be a bad person for thinking it, but she’s not as worried about Chase as she is with Leo. It’s probably because Donald said that Chase has been taken to some superhero hospital, a place where many are trained to treat the kind of injuries he sustained.
There’s some assurance that he’s in good hands.
But her baby. Her baby…
She marches into the lab as soon as the doors open. The whole floor is electric with activity and overwhelming worry. When she gets in, she finds her brother-in-law hunched over the cyberdesk, frowning as he’s lost in his own task.
Meanwhile, her husband looks at her from a conversation he’s having with a man who comes across as strikingly familiar. “Tasha,” says Donald, exhaustion heavy under his eyes. He smiles. “You’re here.”
“I came as fast as I can,” she says, eyeing the tall blond in the red suit.
“Tasha, this is Tecton. Tecton, this is my wife Tasha. Leo’s mother.”
Tecton nods, smiling. “How are you doing?”
Tasha only watches him. “I’ve seen you before. You look familiar.”
“Probably Leo’s comic books. He’s the same Tecton,” Donald explains. “He’s a superhero. Turns out, they’re all real.”
Tasha nods, still unconvinced. It’s then she notices the teenage girl in magenta. “Kylie, right? Or is it Kayla? Thunderstorm or something like that?”
“Close enough. I’m Skylar Storm, Mrs. Davenport,” Skylar says, holding out her hand. She frowns as Tasha shakes her hand. “You know who I am.”
A small smile breaks through Tasha’s features. “Leo got me one of those small plush toys of you from a comic con they went to last year. For my desk at work,” she admits. “He says he got you because you’re cool and cute.”
It stuns Skylar for a second before a grateful smile comes to her face.
“Do we have any news yet about Leo?” Tasha asks her husband.
“No,” says Donald. “We’ve tried several times to ping his location using his phone, but it’s not working. My suspicion is that it got fried when he was attacked.”
“He was attacked?”
Donald nods wearily. “A man came to the island pretending to be a representative, asking for the transponder. He found Chase, Chase led him to the transponder…” He sighs. “Chase shouldn’t have trusted him. The man had superpowers. He wreaked havoc in the island and hurt a lot of people. Plus, he stole my invention.”
“You’re going to have to stop blaming the kid, Donnie,” Douglas chimes in, still engaged in his hack. “If the security on the island had been tighter, he wouldn’t have been able to come in.”
“Chase should have known better than to let that guy in.”
“He’s 18.”
“Exactly! He’s 18!”
“Donald!” Tasha intervenes, fired up once again. “You can’t just blame everything on the kids every time! You have as much to do about this!”
Donald blinks, bewildered. “Why are you blaming me?”
“Because if you had put as much work into protecting the kids in the island, in protecting Leo, as much as you’d protected Adam, Bree, and Chase from Krane? We wouldn’t be in this mess.”
“It wasn’t just my fault!”
“Does it really matter whose it is? Chase is in the hospital, and my son is missing,” Tasha heatedly points out. “What’s pointing fingers going to do to undo those things?”
She sees that her husband’s mind turns with more things to say, with things to justify himself with. However, exhaustion stops him from engaging in a fight.
That, and she thinks a small part of him agrees with her point.
It comes back to her then that they have company. She glances at them, sees the wary expression on their faces, and sighs. “I’m sorry. You shouldn’t have seen that,” she tells the two. “I’m just scared, that’s all.”
“It’s okay, Mrs. Davenport,” Skylar says. “It’s understandable.”
“How many hours since?”
“17 and a half, on my last count,” Douglas reports.
Tasha nods thoughtfully. They have just a little over 30 hours left—which feels like both long enough and too short a time.
“We’ve been doing our best to track the man who took him, too,” Tecton says. “Unfortunately, he hasn’t used his powers since we last saw him so there are no infrared trails to follow, but as soon as he does, we’ll be able to locate him.”
“What about that thing that he stole? Can’t you track that?”
“We tried,” says Douglas. He casts a loaded glance at his older brother before adding, “It’s a prototype, so it didn’t have any tracker on it. It hasn’t been used either. This guy is laying low for some reason.”
That only worsens the dread Tasha feels. She thinks about her son, thinks back on anything useful he could have told her, but nothing. She sighs, burying her face in her palms. “This guy,” she starts but doesn’t know if she has the strength to finish. “This guy, is he… Is he known for hurting children?”
Tecton and Skylar exchange glances, and Tasha feels like her heart has sunk. “We still don’t know why he took your son,” Tecton says. “If he sees use in him, it’s very likely that he will keep him alive.”
“Did he say anything why he took Leo?”
Skylar hesitates at first, looking at Donald for permission to continue.
“Say it.”
“He…He said because he didn’t kill Chase, Leo…was the payment.”
The breath in her lungs leaves her. She’s reminded of the time Krane took the two of them and used them to pressure her husband. This new enemy has what he needs from them; it doesn’t make much sense for him to do what he did. Does he need him to keep them at bay, to stop them from coming any closer?
Maybe that’s what it is. He’s using Leo as pawn.
Still, it devastates her that she has no way of making sure her child is alright. She wants to cry, because thoughts of how he is and how horribly his captor must be treating him are scaring her. “Who’s this guy? What do we know about him?”
“Not much. He goes by The Incapacitator,” Tecton answers. “His abilities are all energy-based. Before this moment, all he’d done is antagonize superheroes so we don’t know how he got his abilities.” A frown furrows his brows. “Although, there was a rumor going around that what happened to Victor Krane was his handiwork.”
Donald frowns. Even Douglas stops what he’s doing out of intrigue. “What do you mean it’s him?” Donald asks.
“The League caught wind about what happened, and we looked at the details of it,” Tecton shares. “From the autopsy report, it seems like both he and his top soldier were offed by energy blasts. Those burns… We’re still doing a follow-up, of course, but—”
“No, no. That was S-2. Those burns are from him,” Douglas says. However, he’s beginning to doubt it. “Leo told me that’s who he saw.”
“If he’d seen that Incapacitator guy before…” Donald’s frown slowly clears as a thought occurs to him.
That makes Tasha even more nervous. “What?”
“Leo. He didn’t look that scared when he saw him.”
“Wait. You think they know each other?” Skylar asks as Donald hurries over to the cyberdesk.
“I don’t know. But he didn’t seem too scared.”
“So, what, is this an inside job?” Tecton asks.
“Leo would never help a bad person do something wrong,” Tasha tells the superhero.
“No, no. He won’t,” Donald says. “He wasn’t scared, but he seemed very upset that he was there.” After a few clicks, the surveillance from the quarters comes up on the screen. He points at it as the interaction between Leo and the supervillain plays. “Look. He doesn’t feel the need to get away from him. Even when I told him to run, he didn’t.”
“He does seem really angry,” Skylar observes.
“And disappointed,” Tecton adds. He crosses his arms. “How do they know each other?”
“Incapacitator threatened to hurt me, but Leo asked him not to,” Donald explains as the video plays further. He sighs, putting his hands on his hips. “He did offer to open up the case just so the guy won’t burn my eye out.”
“Maybe he did it to protect you,” Skylar offers.
“Maybe.”
“No, but look – he tried to hurt Leo, too,” Douglas points. “Why would he do that if they’re working with each other?”
“Yeah.”
“It just doesn’t make sense. Leo’s a good kid. Why would he take part in a heist?”
“Has he been acting strangely lately?” Tecton asks. “It’s not beyond Incapacitator to manipulate others, especially a teenager.”
Donald sighs when the answer comes. “He’s been very upset with me these past few months,” he says. “He’s angry that I didn’t hire him on as a staff member for the bionic academy. He said he thinks he’s earned the right to be one.”
“Do you think he’d go as far as helping a supervillain just to get that point across?”
Donald thinks about it a moment. Then, he shakes his head. “He will complain and sulk, but he would never go that far.”
Tasha gasps at the surveillance.
Seeing that they’d gotten to the part of Leo’s abduction, Donald hurriedly pauses the video then minimizes it. “I’m sorry, Tasha,” he says contritely. “You shouldn’t have seen that.”
“No, no, no. That guy…” She frowns. “Put it back up. I want to see his face.”
Though confused, Donald does as she’s asked.
Tasha stares at the image for a few more seconds. Then, she feels as if her legs had lost strength.
“What?”
It’s been a while, but – is it really him? “Joel. That guy. His name is Joel Jones.” She looks at her husband. “He’s my ex-boyfriend.”
For a moment, Donald only stares. Then, he chuckles. “And I thought my dating history was terrible,” he comments. “Really, Tasha. I would have never pegged you to be the kind of person to date a man with superpowers. A terrible one at that. You could’ve done better.”
“Mm,” Douglas eyes Donald dryly. “The kids and I have always thought the same about you.”
“No, no, you don’t understand!” Tasha tells them. She huffs, feeling like her world is tilting upside down even more. “I didn’t know any of these things about him. When I met him, I thought he was just some college student from a nearby university.”
“He’s been an active supervillain since he was a teenager,” says Tecton.
“Well, I didn’t know that,” Tasha says defensively. She sighs. She should have listened to her mother. “If I had known that, I wouldn’t have gone out with him.”
Douglas shrugs. “I mean, you don’t have to go out with him now.”
Tasha glares. “Yeah,” she says, “but he has our son.”
“Wait,” Donald says. “What?”
“You mean…”
Tasha nods. “This Incapacitator,” she tells them. “He’s Leo’s father.”
The room lies motionless for a painfully long moment. Then: “The guy who broke into my island is your ex?!” Donald shatters the silence.
“I didn’t even know he’s still around! Everything was going well with our relationship. We were going to get married during spring break in Las Vegas, and then he vanished,” Tasha recounts, simmering. “I lost contact with him the same year, and he’s never shown up since.”
“But he knows you have a son together,” Tecton asks.
“I told him the night before the wedding,” Tasha says. “He looked shocked and conflicted, but I didn’t think much of it because I was nervous about the whole thing, too.”
“Maybe it was him that eliminated the two bionics, then,” Skylar says to Tecton. “He probably knew Leo was in danger, so he took them out.”
“But how could he know where we were then? We were hiding,” Douglas says. The answer hits him immediately. “He was on his phone that afternoon. I told him several times to put it away because we might get tracked—”
“So he does have contact with Incapacitator,” Tecton says.
“I mean, I didn’t know he’d put out a hit on him like that.”
“Leo would never do that,” Tasha defends her son. “Look. I know it seems like he’s in on these things that his father did, but he’s a good kid. I worked hard to raise him as a good person. He would never be involved in murder or robbery willingly like you’re suggesting!”
“We’re not saying that he is,” Donald says.
“Yes, you are! Donald, how could you—” Her shoulders fall as defeat presses on her heavier and her eyes sting. “How could you all even suggest that Leo’s a bad guy? My son has risked his life so many times to protect his siblings and to protect our family. Even when other people are mean to him, he stayed a good kid.”
She slowly collapses to the floor, Donald attempting to catch her by the arm. At that point, the tears come. “He just wants to help people,” she says, wiping them with the back of her hand. “How could you just turn on him like this?”
For a second time, the room lies motionless—only this time, it’s weighed with remorse and sympathy.
Donald sits beside her, putting an arm around her. “I’m sorry, Tasha,” he says gently. “It did seem that way. I’m sorry. Leo’s not a bad kid, I know he isn’t.”
“You know he’s willing to die for any of us. How could you even agree that he’s in on this?”
“I know. I’m sorry.” Donald looks up at their guests, back at his brother, and then says, “We’re going to find him. It’s important to me that we bring him home. I believe you. Leo made that deal to save me.”
“I apologize, too, Mrs. Davenport,” Tecton says, sitting down to meet her eyes. “I didn’t mean to make it sound like he assisted him. I got carried away.”
Tasha frowns at Tecton, still offended by the things he insinuated. However, instead of becoming angrier the longer she looks at his face, she finds that a faded memory only becomes clearer. “I have seen you before.”
“Sorry?”
“Joel’s car. He was dropping me off after a date one night. When he stepped out, I looked through his glove compartment for a tissue, and—I saw a planner with your picture on it.”
“A planner?”
“It looked like a planner. There were dates in there, notes…” Tasha’s watery eyes narrow. “I remember seeing information about you and four other people. One of them even upset me. He has a picture of a blonde girl.”
“Blonde.” Tecton looks at Skylar. “Solar Flare?”
“He’s probably been keeping tabs on you guys since then,” Skylar suggests. “Isn’t it around that time that the League of Heroes was re-established?”
Tecton nods. “Is there anything else you remember, Mrs. Davenport?”
“Nothing much, except that he got upset when he saw I was looking through it.”
Tecton sighs. “That’s always been the way he operates. Most of the time, he tells us he’s still around by leaving destroyed sites or dead bodies. He’s very sneaky and really good at hiding.”
“So, what is he, some sort of superhero assassin?” Tasha asks.
Tecton shrugs, unsure himself.
“You guys were able to follow him to the island,” Donald notes.
“It’s because he struck somewhere else first.”
Donald nods, understanding. “One of my buildings.”
“He wanted that transponder.”
“There was something else,” says Tasha, lost in thought. “There was a picture of something. It was like a pyramid, with this marble-looking thing in the middle. That stayed on my mind awhile.”
“A pyramid?” Donald repeats.
Tasha nods.
Realization dawns on Skylar. “Oh no.” She looks at Tecton with dread. “The Arcturion.”
Tecton groans, getting up to his feet. “That power source has only ever been bad news.”
“What’s the Arcturion?” Douglas asks.
“Alien power source. Kills any human that touches it, drains any non-human of any abilities,” Skylar answers.
“Except this time he doesn’t have to touch it.” When others turn to him, Tecton says, “The energy transponder. He can draw infinite amounts of power with it. If he finds the Arcturion, he can transform into a living nightmare and actually turn earth into a graveyard for superheroes.”
“Great. Another guy bent on leveling all of us,” Skylar laments. “Once we get our hands on that Arcturion, we should really just football toss it into the sun.”
“That can be arranged.”
“I still don’t understand why he took Leo,” Douglas muses. “If all he needs is the transponder, why would he take him?”
Donald shrugs. “Spend some time?”
“Yeah, but why would he go as far as hurting him?” Douglas stares thoughtfully at the cyberdesk, his mind at work.
“What are you thinking?” Donald prompts.
“Something sinister,” Douglas says. He crosses his arms. “The good thing is, I don’t think he’s going to hurt the kid. The bad thing is, I think he’s going to hurt the kid.”
“What?” Tasha says.
“It’s all just suspicion for now, but I just don’t like the timing of everything,” Douglas says. “It’s mainly because of the transponder, but – everything’s aligned. I think this is the perfect moment he might have been waiting for.”
“Douglas, you’re the only one who’d been an evil genius here. None of us are following,” Donald says.
“Think about it,” Douglas says. “This guy had been waiting to bring down the superheroes for the longest time. He’s been collecting information regarding the top players in the business for as far back as, what, twenty or so years? But he’s never attacked. He’s also been keeping an eye on that, what is that, Arcturion?
“I think Tecton’s right. When he hits, he wants all the superheroes gone. He’s going big, and I think he’s going all out.”
“But like you said, Leo’s got nothing to do with this,” Tasha points out.
“Leo’s got everything to do with this,” Douglas says. “There’s nothing scarier than a person who’s got nothing to lose. If that’s Incapacitator, if he’s the kind who’s willing to die for his cause, it’s likely that he’ll do everything to get it done. And between the kids and him…” He shrugs somberly. “The choice is obvious.
“Leo’s not a bad person, Tasha. I believe that,” Douglas continues. “But you’re right: he loves us. He loves his family.”
“Family, including his father,” Tecton supplies as he starts to understand.
“Ever since the academy was founded, he’s been feeling betrayed. If he’s been talking to his dad, then his dad knows how much everything upsets him,” Douglas tells Tasha.
He pauses for a moment, debating whether he should bring up the next point. “When...Marcus was still around, I gave him this one order, in case something happens to me while we were acting on our plan: get the job done, however way you can.”
Tasha’s frown clears. “You don’t mean…”
“There might be a lot more to your ex’s plan than we initially thought,” Douglas confirms. “If he succeeds, the superheroes are wiped out. If he fails and dies by the superheroes’ hands while Leo’s watching—”
“We might force Leo to follow his footsteps,” Skylar supplies.
Douglas nods in confirmation. “It’s like that question, one versus the many. Who do we save?”
“This is not good. I hope you’re wrong,” Tecton tells Douglas. “Reports are that The Incapacitator turned into a villain after his parents were killed in front of him.”
“You said yourself he was manipulative,” says Douglas. “We have to get Leo out of there before he can plant any bad ideas into his head, before anything goes down.”
Tasha lets out a shuddered breath. What upsets her more than the possibility of her son being emotionally manipulated is the fact that there’s a base for her ex to build on.
Douglas said he’s been feeling upset. How come she didn’t know? She frequently asked how he was doing whenever she called, and all he had ever said was that things were fine. Had her focus been so off that she didn’t recognize it? Her brother-in-law knows more about her child than she did. How did it get to that point?
“We’ll do our best to gather more information,” Tecton tells the family, getting back to his feet. “I’ll see if the League has something on Incapacitator. I’ll check the archives.”
“I’ll double check with Horace, too, and see if there’s anything he remembers hearing from people who’s encountered him,” Skylar says.
Donald nods. “Please update us as soon as you hear something.”
Tecton nods. “Mrs. Davenport, Mr. Davenport,” he nods to Tasha then Douglas. After Skylar does the same, both of them exit through the garage.
Once they’re gone, Tasha releases a weary breath.
“Are you okay? I know this isn’t something to come home to,” her husband asks her softly.
Tasha shakes her head. “I want to see the kids, Donald. I don’t like them being so far away from us. Where are they?”
“In Philadelphia, but I’ve fixed the Davenporter. It’s fully operational. If we head out to Davenport Industries now,” Donald consults his watch, “we’d be at the hospital in probably 40 minutes.”
“You guys should go. The kids need you,” Douglas agrees. “Adam texted me not too long ago, told me Chase hasn’t come to yet. I think he and Bree are getting a bit too shaken up by this.”
“What about the search?”
“What about it? I’m here,” Douglas says. As Donald helps Tasha up, he says, “There’s only one thing we can do on our end, and I can do it alone. Tasha, I know you don’t feel right about it, but I have to access the record of Leo’s text messages. His phone is out, but I might be able to ping his dad’s. All I need is a number.”
Douglas is right: she doesn’t feel right about it. If Leo finds out, he might think that none of them trusted him.
Still, it’s the only way to save him from his father right now. “Fine. Do whatever you need to do,” she says. “Just make sure Leo never finds out.”
“Evil genius here. I know how to cover my tracks,” Douglas says as he begins the work through the cyberdesk.
“You ready?” Donald asks.
“Wait. Maybe we should pack up some clothes for the children. Maybe bring some toiletries, too. Bree will only use one specific brand of toothbrush, and Chase needs his eye drops when he wakes up.”
An appreciative smile slowly stretches across Donald’s face. “I’ll get clothes for Adam and Chase, and you get Bree’s things and what you think the kids will also need.”
“We should pack up things for us, too.”
Donald nods.
“Meet you back here in 15?”
“Okay.”
At that, Tasha parts from her husband.
“Hey, honey?” Donald smiles when she looks back at him. “It’s all going to be okay. Chase and Leo will come home.”
Tasha only stares a while, processing everything. Then, she forces a smile to her face – a form of thanks.
Once he goes, she leaves for the elevator.
It’s all going to be okay. Chase and Leo will come home, the words ring in her head.
However, only one thing echoes back: Yes – but will they be the same?
