shitty fucking day
day one passed. it's 2 in the morning, i can't sleep thinking about today.
the first class was the history of america. I'm not going to say much because i haven't learned anything, i've spent my time drawing and in my world so as not to die from the mistake i made. Because the teacher (who I love not only because he is the kindest and most tender person in the universe, but because his name is also Basil, which is the name of my favorite character, Basil Hallward, from my favorite book The Picture of Dorian Grey, and Surprisingly for everyone, —let the sarcasm be noted —from my favorite writer, Oscar Wilde), well he asked me to introduce myself.
what did this asshole here say? i'm Emily Byrne, I'm Irish and I transferred from Ireland. yey, Emily, as if it wasn't obvious that you were Irish you had to say something even more obvious and stupid. Please someone kill me.
well, if you think this is funny, wait until i tell you that i got lost looking for my locker, a locker thati will never use even if they paid me and if i did, i would never put important belongings in it. But my tote bag was carrying more weight than it should, because they give me all the books today and i still had two more hours of class left, and i wanted my beloved bag to survive for many more years.
anyways, that locker didn't open, I got the number and everything but nothing, it didn't open, I got frustrated and pulled the locker even harder and well… i slammed the locker door on the boy who was next to me. But that's okay, i wish i had broken his head because he was a fucking pikey!
i swear, i'm not kidding, he was a fucking pikey, a rage came over me when i apologized and he called me a fucking little brat. i mean, who the hell does that pikey think he is? i almost took his head off if it weren't for someone calling him, because he's an indegrable idiot.
anyway, the only thing that saved this shitty day was Artistic Drawing, (which is one of my favorite subjects btw) and everything was very chill. i was even approached by a girl who i have to admit that when she approached i thought she would be a popular posh girl (you know, one of those teenage movies), but no, she was an adorable and very friendly chic blonde. even too much to me i would say. she practically saw me sitting alone and quickly jumped into action to get me out of my loneliness.
she says that tomorrow she will introduce me to her group of friends in the yard so that I won't be alone, I guess okay?
i don't know, she told me not to worry and let me go, but here i am, writing at 2 in the morning.
anyway, as long as i doesn't find that pikey again, everything fine.

Meet the seven new frog species we just named after iconic Star Trek captains!

At the right time of year along rushing streams in the humid rainforests that stretch the length of Madagascar's eastern and northern mountain ridges, otherworldly trills of piercing whistles can be heard.
Are they birds? Insects? Communicator beeps? Tricorder noises?
No, they're little treefrogs!

Until recently, we thought all of the populations of these little brown frogs across the island were one widespread species, Boophis marojezensis, described in 1994. But genetics in the early 2000s and 2010s showed that there were several species here, not just one.
Now my colleagues and I have shown that they are in fact eight separate species, each with unique calls!
These whistling sounds reminded us so much of Star Trek sound effects that we decided to name the seven new species after Star Trek captains: Boophis kirki, B. picardi, B. janewayae, B. siskoi, B. pikei, B. archeri, and B. burnhamae.

I subtly and not-so-subtly built some Star Trek references into the paper, but probably the best one is this one:
'Finding these frogs sometimes requires considerable trekking; pursuing strange new calls, to seek out new frogs in new forests; boldly going where no herpetologist has gone before.'
— Vences et al. 2024
There’s a real sense of scientific discovery and exploration here, which we think is in the spirit of Star Trek.
Of course, it doesn't hurt that there are at least two Trekkies amongst the authors (including yours truly). As fans of Star Trek, we are also just pleased to dedicate these new species to the characters who have inspired and entertained us over the decades.
On a personal note, this marks a milestone for me, as it means I have now described over 100 frog species! I am very pleased that the 100th is Captain Janeway's Bright-eyed Frog, Boophis janewayae (if you count them in order of appearance in the paper)—she is probably my favourite captain, and I really love Star Trek: Voyager.
You can read more about the discovery of these new species on my website! You can also read the Open Access paper published in Vertebrate Zoology here.

I’m talking like a The Chernobyl Tapes style documentary. I want witnesses. I was cross-checking stories. I want stage crew interviewed. I want people who you wouldn’t even think to have stories to be interviewed. I want Gabe Saporta. I want HeyChris to direct and be the interviewer. I want it to be so cut-throat and in depth it’ll make any other investigative documentary look like easy viewing.
I think there should be a cutting edge, deathly serious, true crime style documentary figuring out what the fuck exactly happened at Warped Tour 2005

Braius and Vord
I still just in general don't know how I feel about Braius he's definitely been the catalyst for a lot of fun moments. It's such a Sam Reigal thing to do to make a prank from the previous game into a tragic back story for a new character
This whole conversation is such good shit
And as I've seen others point out Pike, my love, a cleric of the Everlight, stepping in and standing up for a guy who's lying to like everyone in this room, a paladin of Asmodeus is... Oof. It's beautiful but awful
I can't wait to see what the Truthbearer armor actually does if it has some fun stuff. All I can think is permanent zone of truth on the wearer and that would be hilarious
"He made the gift of a holy relic like an epic burn, how??" Taliesin's comments are always the best

the fact that, if the party had been all together, scanlan would have groaned and complained and played up the dramatics about exerting all that energy to carry grog.
but he wasn’t with the whole party.
he was with pike and grog. his family.
and he didn’t even hesitate to drop those walls and care for them both.

You guys need to look up new words before using them, no way are you guys using that many British slurs on purpose... I have too much faith in you all.
-sigh- look, I know 'funny video of British person cussing' is really amusing and quotable. But please, for the love of all that is good, just- google the word you're about to use, before you unwittingly call me a slur right to my face... Don't call me a window-licker. Do NOT call me a mong, or a spack, or 'special'.
Terms all used to mock disabled people, on par with ones such as your "r-slur" ... They are very upsetting to hear. They are -not- the same as calling somebody a 'tosser', or a 'twat'. Not all insults are created equal...
This is a nation of cunts, dickheads, and bellends. Just - google it before you repeat it... For everybody's sanity.
