From Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Requiem, a hymn for the holidays and funerals. Violin, Viola and String Arrangement by Andrew Joslyn, Cello by Eli Weinberger, Vocals by Natalie Nicole Gilbert. Natalie Nicole Gilbert’s “Warm Winter” doesn’t pretend to be the usual upbeat holiday album; for that matter its more winter than holiday in theme. Off the bat the EP starts with a song of heartbreak (Falling, a Harry Styles piano ballad cover), lovingly overlaid with lush strings 28 tracks of violins, violas and cellos in full holiday form. Styles Falling lyrics asking What if I’m down? and What if I’m someone I don’t want around? has a different and even more honest ring in a Covid lockdown era. Picking up the pieces the track list slides into a romantic jazz piece before returning to melancholy meandering through Vincent van Gogh’s snow laden landscapes in Starry, Starry Night. The tracks catapult us back to wizened optimism with a beat driven That Will Be Christmas (with Take 6’s Grammy nominated Jarret Johnson and Lisa Ramey of the Voice) on to a child-like pursuit of world peace in Grown Up Christmas List. My #thriftstorescore is this amazingly clean copy of #andrewlloydwebber #requiem written in memory of his father William Lloyd Webber. It is based on the Requiem mass of the Catholic Church offered for the repose of the soul of a deceased person. Requiem won the 1986 #grammy for Best Classical Contemporary Composition and features #placidodomingo and #sarahbrightman and was conducted by #lorinmazzel Quite different from Andrew Lloyd Webber's other compositions, it features one of the better known versions of #piejesu (at Bramalea, Ontario)

When the producers of the World Meeting Of Families event in Philadelphia needed someone to perform impromptu and acapella, the Keystone State Boys Choir director offered up a young Bobby Hill to perform “Pie Jesu.” He did so and WOWed the audience, the events host Mark Wahlberg and Pope Francis. When opportunity knocks, you better answer. This is a great example of preparation and excellence meeting.
