Some pre-corruption Shadow Milk and Elder Faerie encountering some of the magic of the Witches for the first time — build-up to an AU that I’m working on at the moment! More info about the AU is under the cut!

In this AU, Elder Faerie was the closest ally of the pre-corrupted Beasts, a designated mediator for the five who was chosen by none other than the Witches themselves, destined to ensure that the Beasts would not become too power-mad and to intervene if this was ever to become true. The Witches set aside five great portions of their magic to bestow upon the Beasts once they had established themselves on Earthbread, solidifying their roles as guardians of the world forever. Elder Faerie had forever been fascinated with the magic of the Witches and yearned to hold some power of the Witches in his own hands, but knowing that it was his duty to one day stand by the Beasts as they received their magic, he admired the Witches’ magic from afar, instead immersing himself in study and research.

Eventually, the Beasts began to spiral into madness as they grew more and more power-hungry, ushering in calamity during what was deemed the Age of Chaos on Earthbread. Elder Faerie, upon seeing the destruction that the Beasts could bring to Earthbread should they receive the Witches’ magic, took matters into his hands and stole the magic meant for the Beasts from the Witches before the quickly approaching day of their reception ceremony. With the knowledge from the countless hours he had poured into the study of this new magic of his, he created the Silver Tree and sealed the Beasts away, ending the Age of Chaos with the Faerie Kingdom seeing him as a hero and as blessed by the Witches themselves. Indeed, not all secrets are meant to come to light… he never disclosed to anyone how he truly received his powers, and Shadow Milk still regards him as the greatest traitor of all.

There are a lot of other twists in this AU as well — such as the Ancients being the apprentices of the Beasts — that I will talk more about later!
