"Three Siblings Bought The House Where Their #Ancestors Worked #PickingCotton" The family lived in a #Sharecropping hut across the street from the house they now own. “We were playmates as children, and we played with white children who lived within close proximity to us,” Dorothy said. They loved the thought of pooling their money together to purchase the land. They said the really liked the idea of having a place for out of town family to stay when they visited or a place to take care of sick relatives or even just to connect with classmates. The woman who sold them the land said she wanted them to have the house and three acres because she remembered the connection they had as children. #4evahaka2 #4evahaka Via: @ngongang

I’m so excited that after a decade there is finally a potential glimmer of hope for Ronald.  Is it bad that I’m definitely #TeamRonald when I’m probably supposed to be against him? Or maybe the book wants us to be on his side.  Either way, I’m so proud of his persistence and his never give up attitude.  I can only imagine how hard it is to not just give up in his situation.
I also can’t imagine how Jennifer must be feeling. To finally get into a normal routine again and have your whole work shaken up all over again for a third time... how traumatic.  I applaud her husband for how supportive he has been for her through her it all.

In Benin, large cotton plantations or farms are dedicated to growing cotton. Picking cotton in Benin without machinery is very hot, hard, physical work where women work the same hours as men. At harvest time, pickers are expected to pick a certain amount of cotton each day or they do not earn enough money to support their families. Most work as field hands on cotton plantations. Today raw cotton is processed in the state's grain mills which the picker must pay for the use of the mill. Benin government has also taken over the export of cotton and cottonseed. After a difficult period, production is now once again getting under way, but with output likely to be below Benin’s glory days as King of Cotton.

New @smithsonian Leader #LonnieBunch to @northwesternu Grads: ‘Never, ever generalize based on #race’ https://bit.ly/2NpXOEb (link in bio) His grandparents were #sharecroppers on the same #NorthCarolina #plantation where his great- and great-great-grandparents had been #slaves. But last week, their great-grandson became the first African-American secretary of the world-renowned #SmithsonianInstitution; the world’s top museums. That great-grandson, Lonnie Bunch, 66, former head of @chicagomuseum, returned to his #Chicago roots to give the commencement address at #NorthwesternU Friday — four days after his historic installation as Smithsonian’s 14th secretary. “My maternal grandparents were sharecroppers. Their parents and grandparents were enslaved. For 27 years of their lives, they picked cotton, chopped peanuts and planted corn. But something inside them helped them realize their lives were meant for much more, that their hands were more suited for something besides #pickingcotton,” Bunch said in his 15-minute talk before 10K gathered at #RyanField to see 6,148 N.U. students graduate. “It took them 11 years, but they graduated college. They changed their lives, and the trajectory of my entire family,” said Bunch, founding director of the groundbreaking National Museum of African American History and Culture/ @nmaahc. Bunch, who with his June 16 appointment also became first historian to lead Smithsonian and its portfolio including 11 world famous museums on the #NationalMall — is indeed an #American story .... https://ift.tt/2J7lo32

Over 231 million Americans are eligible to vote, but, based on early results from the 2016 Presidential election, but just over 130 million of them voted for either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. In some of the key battleground states that decided the election, less than a few thousand votes decided the result, proving how important every vote really is and how important it is to motivate your party. Basically if U didn't vote don't whine, complain, protest and/or bitch about anything for the next 4 years. If anybody looking for me I'll be picking cotton....lol #lovinglife #donaldtrump #POTUS #dreamalittledream #pow #hillaryclinton #Trump2016 #zipit #thepurgeelectionyear #thepurge #pickingcotton #grabthembythepussy #Clinton2016 smfh #dumbass #yallseethisshit #emails #evilempire #okimout✌ (at The White House)
