Free string synthesizer sample plugin (Strykebrett)
Strykebrett is a free sample library for Decent Sampler featuring the Hohner / Logan String Melody II with some added features. All the sounds in the video are from a single instance of the plugin with no additional plugins or effects added.
User Interface: The user interface offers precise control over every aspect of the instrument and effects. Explore parameters to refine your sound, including control over the six drawbars, envelope, amplitude modulation with LFOs, highpass and lowpass filters, velocity/dynamics, oscillator drifting, and the immersive effects of ensemble, phaser, echo and reverb.
Mixer (Bass / Treble): Unleash the power of the six drawbars to shape your tone with precision. Each drawbar controls the amplitude of a specific octave or sound, offering you unparalleled control over the instrument's harmonic richness.
ADSR Envelope: Shape your sound precisely with the Attack, Decay, Sustain, and Release parameters. Whether you desire a punchy, staccato tone or a smooth, lingering ambiance, the ADSR envelope allows you to tailor the dynamics to your liking.
Low-frequency Oscillator (LFO): The Rate and Depth knobs enable you to modulate the amplitude of four of the drawbars with the desired depth and rate. The LFOs for the treble section has a sine waveform for smooth transitions. The LFO for the bass section has a sawtooth waveform for a rhythmic effect.
Voltage Controlled Filter (VCF): Strykebrett has a highpass filter and a lowpass filter. The highpass filter ranges from 20 Hz to 2000 Hz and the lowpass filter ranges from 200 Hz to 8000 Hz.
Oscillators:
Dyn: Turns on or off the velocity controlled amplitude
Drift: When enabled, each sample will have a slight pitch drift. The pitch drift for each sample is unique and independent. It's less pitch drift in the bass samples than the treble samples.
Ensemble:
O: 3 stereo choruses with different speed and depth
Acc: Turns the ensemble off
Solo: Fast stereo vibrato
Organ: A slow stereo chorus
Effects: The phaser is the built-in phaser from Decent Sampler. The echo and reverb effects are achieved using carefully crafted impulse responses. The echo effect employs a Fulltone Tube Tape Echo recorded twice for stereo, while the reverb effect draws from a Chase Bliss Audio & Meris CXM 1978 reverb pedal with a room setting.
Echo: Select from two distinctive echo options: the short echo, delivering a classic slapback effect, and the long echo, characterized by a slower decay and numerous repeats.
Reverb: You'll also find two reverb effects: the short reverb, evoking the intimacy of a small room, and the long reverb, enveloping your sound in the vastness of a spacious environment.

Just finished a new project: a music notation manuscript book 🥰 I received a little piano keyboard for Xmas from my sister - to be used in DAS programs to compose music, but, you know, baby steps 😂 - and have started to learn piano ❤️ using five manuscript copybooks from @promusica.ie , I bound myself a study book to learn musical notation in! It's going... slowly 😂 but I'm getting there, particularly for someone who's lived the last 27 years without playing a single key 😂 In between lessons, I've been tinkering with a couple projects tailored to musicians 🥰 beginning with this one! . . . . . #bookbinding #bookbinder #notebooks #pianonotation #learningpiano #manuscriptbook #pianomanuscript #pianobook #handmadebooks #books https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm7WajOIudL/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

happy new year! i bring an ambience piece inspired by the dnd mood i’ve been in. this shows off the BEAUTIFUL library called “The Spellsinger” by Hunter Rogerson, distributed with the help of Pianobook! I thought it was an odd coincidence that Mr. Rogerson has very powerful Caleb Widogast vibes, but I’m not so sure it’s a coincidence anymore.
anyway, take this spooky eldritch-y mysterious piece that would be great for a dangerous ancient mysterious perhaps arcane dungeon ambience! please check out pianobook if you’re a digital musician they’re literally fantastic and especially those who utilize Decent Sampler <3 I can’t afford Kontakt or other expensive packs etc etc as much as I want to, and this is just. chef’s kiss.

Whenever I feel like my art is insufficient, I go to the clip studio asset store and download a bunch of new brushes to play with so I can experiment and improve.
Right now I’m doing that with music too, except there’s not just a ‘clip studio asset store’, there’s pianobook, there’s presetshare, there’s bedroom producers’ blog, there’s those 5 free VSTs you should try out now’ YouTube channels, the company websites for each of those VSTs because they usually have more, etc. My poor hard drive.

if u wanna make music I'm jus gonna list off a bunch of good free stuff.
Cakewalk isn't that good but if ur poor like me it's a serviceable tho buggy as hell daw - the most important software where u record - tho u gotta download ur own sampler n effects. Little by little u can learn to work around the bugs tho.
Vital is one of the best free synths. Sound design capabilities are crazy, tho it doesn't have alot of presets n making ur own wavetables n presets takes time to learn.
Surge is also great n has more presets, n the modulation options are easier n it has SO many stock effects.
Spitfire labs is a sample player with rly good sampled instruments.
Decent sampler is another good sample player n you can find samples for it at a site called pianobook.
Sitala is a good sampler.
I didn't get into effect plugins tho

A small note but if you don't like the workflow of Cakewalk (+not it being updated anymore unless you pay) you can get Waveform 12 Free (every time a new version of Waveform comes out the last one becomes free, no license needed!)
https://www.tracktion.com/products/waveform-free
Plus you can get a lot of free drum kits from r/Drumkits on reddit and you can also find a lot of useful resources from Bedroom Producer (be warned though they also sometimes recommend AI)
https://bedroomproducersblog.com/
For less powerful PCs Kontakt might be too much but you can use DecentSampler and Pianobook for a lot of free sample libraries
https://www.pianobook.co.uk/
https://www.decentsamples.com/product/decent-sampler-plugin/
people NEED to stop gatekeeping making music like ohhhh i don’t have an instrument ohhhhh i don’t know music theory ohhhhh i’m not gonna pay for some program. SHUT UP. take my hand.
you need NONE of that shit!!!!! there’s a website called beepbox.co. literally all you have to do is press things until it sounds a modicum of nice. it’s easy it’s free and it works on anything which has a browser because it’s a website.

All of this. TLDR: take full advantage of things also like youtube tutorials and sample libraries, i mention a few below. Google anything specific you want/need with the word “free” after it and it’ll probably come up
I’m teaching a class on music production this semester and these are all amazing resources that I’m using in my class. I’d say Vital is the most comparable to Serum, Helm is a bit more lightweight but is a really good synth nonetheless.  Spitfire also has a ton of other sounds and samples in their LABS collection which are amazing, and the same person who makes Spitfire also helps run Pianobook which is a crowd-sourced sampled intsrument project, of which the vast majority are free. Consistently the biggest hurdle to music production in my experience is just having the digital space for a bunch of sample libraries of these things. In the same vein, Native Instruments First is also a great free collection of sounds and plugins. Kontakt is a really nice plugin but also takes up a bunch of space.  People have also mentioned Cymatics in other replies also, which I would also recommend for a bunch of free samples. Most of theirs are in the hip-hop producer direction, but kicks and snares and stuff are universal, and with some free effects that you can find basically anywhere you can really transform anything into anything else. but, my number one tip, out of all of these, is to GOOGLE THE HELL OUT OF IT. Because of COVID a ton more people got into music production and started making all sorts of free software and samples and instructions and just searching for something specific you want will give you oodles canoodles and toaster strudels amount of options to choose from. Learn everything you can from youtube tutorials and articles and stuff. Thats all you really need to do.
Puki if you don't give me advice on how to start getting into making music I'm gonna die from idiot disorder my life is literally in your hands please don't fail me puki
What do u wanna learn? Download a DAW first, I think FL, Ableton and Logic pro are some of the best. FL is the cheap, Reaper is cheaper but if ur a mac owner Logic Pro is the go-to, unless u wanna splurge for Ableton, which is the best >:) (Logic pro is like a pro version of garage band) - - Get a nice virtual synth, Ableton includes loads, different versions of FL give u access to their vsts - harmor is a great synth, btw all synths will work in all DAW's (except Logic which uses AAX but most virtual synths come with that too.) - my favorite VST's are Serum, Sylenth1, Zebra2, Diva, Dune3, omnisphere, and I use loads of Kontakt libraries and other things - this isn't a comprehensive list but I'd suggest shooting for Zebra2 or Serum for your first purchased synth since they have massive comprehensive presets, both user-made and built-in. Then go to splice or loopmasters or find all the free samples ur heart desires on reddit and then ur good to start learning. Get going.
