Camp Folktale (summer of '86) - cairparavels

So I had this one bound and finished for ages, but it always felt incomplete. I still think it feels incomplete and too simple and I can't figure out what to add to it, so decided to post it.

But this is a favorite Steddie fic of mine.

Hozier Lyric Book

Worked on this all day on Friday (12/27/24). Trimmed the edges, sacrificed some blood to the bookbinding gods, sewed endbands, and printed the end papers and cover.

So far it’s my most successful book trimmed using only a chisel. It’s also my second time ever sewing headbands, so they’re still pretty messy I think. The typeset is the most complex I’ve ever created. Going through it, I feel I could have made some better choices. But all in all, it still might be the best book I’ve made so far.

My rebinding of The Hobbit, the illustrated version. This book came out lovely. It's one of the few examples I didn't use hand marbled paper but Chiyogami paper (the decorative tree paper) instead. It was the right call. The rest is green goatskin with some metal furniture (decorative pieces on the cover). And of course the gold tooling on the cover and spine are all hand done.

I saw this binding method on Susana Dominguez Martin’s Instagram page on Sunday and my mind was so blown that I had to figure it out and try it myself.

The Chronicles of Narnia omnibus containing all seven books in one! Originally a paperback, rebound into hardcover with hand dyed green goatskin leather and gold design depicting Aslan on the front cover. Now available in my shop at the link in my bio.

Everything sucks right now but please enjoy this leather rebind of A String of Pearls, aka Sweeney Todd. The cover is tooled in gold-colored foil. The leather is hand dyed veg tanned. It’s still available on my site if you want it. (X)

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

This is my second time rebinding Song of Achilles. I adjusted the blue color for this version and added a bookmark ribbon and charm.

There is no HTV on this book. The whole thing (the blue and the yellow) was printed on plain white inkjet canvas. I sprayed it with archival varnish to keep the design protected.

The end papers are of a painting called The Funeral of Patroclus by Jacques-Louis David. It's separated in half between the front and back end papers.

All elements were assembled in Canva.

I did another copy of Full Metal Alchemist. This time I rebound a copy of Vol. 1-3. Here's a little more of the process pics/video as well as well as the before and after. The video is of blind tooling the cover which I later painted with silver paint.

The endbands are silk thread hand sewn. The inside endpapers are hand marbled as well as the red pieces on the covers. I also painted the edges with black ink.

I’m still immensely in love with how this rebinding turned out! Good thing because I have to make another one, and this one will fly all the way to Australia! ✈️✈️✈️
