"Pieces of a little dream" is a little EP i made some time ago, four piano tracks with soft flute melodies. I really was inspired by videogames and visual novels. My goal was to make something easy to fall asleep to.

Dream a Little Dream of Me - I

Celestia has a cruel sense of humor. He's always known this, ever since his days as a student. But a soulmate? Really? Dottore/Female Reader Soulmate AU. Expect lore speculation, interpretations, etc. Available on AO3 as well. Reblogs and comments are appreciated and encouraged!

You didn’t remember when, precisely, the dreams began; you had gone at least twenty summers without them, consigned yourself to darkness.

When the first one occurred, you merely thought they were a product of too much caffeine and not enough sleep, as though your body was protesting exhaustion to the point of delirium. The dream itself only involved a vague figure and the bizarre sensation that perhaps you weren’t quite alone. Until the figure spoke and both of you realized that the space was shared.

The next time the dream occurred, the stranger gave incredibly precise detail regarding the space itself and that they hadn’t been able to recreate the same situation. Frustration laced their words and their hands and arms moved in passionate, animated gestures.

“You speak as if dreams can be monitored or controlled,” you said.

“Under the right circumstances, they can be. It would appear these are anything but natural circumstances.”

You wanted to ask: but wasn’t fate natural?

But something in their tone stopped you and instead you apologized, to which the individual clicked their tongue.

“Don’t waste your energy on apologizing for something that the gods have decided upon. There is little to be done about it.”

Soulmates weren’t an easy concept for everyone, despite the bliss that many so often touted. The stars held fate within their glowing light; for some, that fate included a connection unbreakable by all but death.

You heard so many people on your travels gush about the romantic notion of knowing their partner as well as they knew themselves, their dreams just as much a part of their relationship’s foundation as their waking one. It closed distances that might otherwise never be crossed. And yet it broke apart marriages, families, revealed so much about a person that they either never considered or were never given a choice in. Receiving a soulmate early on in life was the best-case scenario; receiving and finally connecting with one when you already established a life was far, far worse than not having one at all, in your opinion.

Was that their situation, then?

Over the years, the dreams became more of a game, an experiment. The two of you tested the boundaries of the dream itself and interacted with the vague shape of one another. Eventually, details took shape, and you could make out proper height, clothing styles, hair; their face remained a mystery, although occasionally you caught glimpses of a jaw and mouth, with an all-too-charming smile and lips you considered for a second longer than proper.

Sometimes the two of you ventured just past the line, teasing touches that never seemed to do more than sate curiosity and leave your body longing when you woke.

Typically, after defining the dream space and testing limitations, you spent the rest of the dream attempting civility.

He, for he defined himself as such, was never not civil, you noted. Impatient some nights more than others, certainly, but he did his best to try.

You discovered one night, a decade into your bond as the two of you laid in a field of grass with no warmth from the false sun overhead, that he was a scholar of high standing. Although, he clarified, he was not attached to the Akademiya in Sumeru in the same way others might be. It was a distinction you didn’t think many would be proud of but you nevertheless appreciated the candor.

“Something in common, then,” you supplied. “I was plucked early from Fontaine’s music academy and placed into the hands of a rich family to study music theory and composition further than the school would ever take me.”

He reached for your hand and extended your arm in his direction to get a better look. “Piano? Mmm, not with those callouses…strings, certainly…but…”

You found yourself being pulled closer and you rolled onto your side, facing him. Cold fingers found your other hand and you waited, almost amused, at how dedicated he was to figuring this out himself.

“I could just–”

He shushed you and muttered something under his breath that sounded like he was comparing plucking instruments to those that used bows.

“Cello, or at least a larger instrument in the violin family. One hand has a different callous pattern than the other.”

Your eyebrows rose in surprise. Most guessed a violin or erhu. “Impressive.”

“Hardly. Between the pattern difference and the mention of Fontaine, it’s obvious that the instrument is likely native to the nation but that the strings are a bit thicker than a violin’s. You have a writer’s bump on your third finger; you compose in addition to playing.”

You took your hands back and looked down at them, cradling your dominant hand and running your finger over that very spot, suddenly conscious of it.

“Fontaine survives off of private patronage for the arts and the sciences; it’s seen as an investment as valuable as business itself,” you said. “Are there reasons for not working within the Akademiya, or other situations when a private sponsorship or patronage would be more useful?”

You brought your gaze back up to look at him, releasing your hand to brush it across the tips of the grass between you both, soft with just a hint of dampness, morning dew that had yet to disappear. Your companion gave a thoughtful hum, considering your words.

“They’re so…limiting,” he elaborated, gesturing with a hand vaguely before blocking the sun and turning his head towards you. “Obtaining a degree nowadays may as well be one’s only life goal; some spend decades traveling with their studies and graduate well into their thirties, if they graduate at all. Final theses are rejected on a regular basis, keeping students back longer than necessary. And nevermind the fact that mechanical lifeforms cannot be researched without risk of expulsion. I never did understand that one…”

It was the most you’d ever heard him speak of himself in a long time. Some days he was content to ramble on whatever caught his fancy for most of your time together and you were happy to listen, even if you didn’t understand. Other times, he was…almost spacey, as though he’d walked into a room and couldn’t remember why he stepped inside.

For the first time in years, you finally caught a glimpse of his eyes.

You’d seen garnets on the hands of your patrons in Fontaine but they paled in comparison to the striking depth of his gaze.

“For those who are not fond of confinement, private patronage of research is far more beneficial,” he continued, his tone far less impassioned, a wall rising between you instantly. “Both for the researcher and the nation, if their work is capable of scaling properly.”

His visage became cloudy again, leaving you with only the lower half of his face and the vague hint at pale turquoise hair.

When you woke, your head felt heavy and your eyes burned, as if you spent the night composing in the dark. The sunlight was warm, throwing itself across the ceiling of your rented room and beckoning you outside. Sumeru was never without sunlight, it seemed, just as the people in Sumeru City were never without their Akasha. Yours was pushed into your hands upon arrival in Sumeru City, laid upon the nightstand, turned off; it rested next to your Geo Vision, bright and vibrant.

You could still feel hands that weren’t yours, moving your fingers and running across your skin.

How could you be so tired and yet so awake?

As you dressed, you realized that despite the warm color of your soulmate’s eyes, they were so cold, colder perhaps than his touch. Was it just the topic of conversation? Your presence, nay, invasion perhaps?

And yet…almost familiar, in the same way that a stranger’s shape might be from a distance.

A beat on the door of your room startled you out of your thoughts. Your orchestra’s tour manager, the first to rise and the last to sleep, making their rounds to get everyone downstairs to eat. The very air in your room seemed to have the same idea, the scent of rich coffee wafting from the inn’s kitchen.

You tried to shake off the dream as you gathered your things and made your way downstairs with the rest of your colleagues. There were too many details to plan for later that evening for your focus to be anywhere else but grounded in reality.

After all, it wasn’t every night that your orchestra, Fontaine’s best, played for the Akademiya Sages.

General Headcannons for the Bad Kids (Fantasy High) for 🪨 Anon!

Adaine:

• Put a spell on Riz's string he uses for clue boards so it never runs out.

• Really, REALLY likes cats. Especially calico cats. Always wanted one, but her parents refused.

• Loves listening to those 24/7 lofi streams, especially while studying.

• Likes soft perfumes like peach and flowers.

• Played piano for a long time throughout childhood, but began to hate it. Now only teaches herself songs she likes.

Fabian:

• Likes wearing jewellery, especially rings.

• As well as being captain of the bloodrush team, he's a member of the swim team.

• Plays Animal Crossing with Adaine a lot.

• Does not know a single nursery rhyme, as he was brought up singing sea shanties.

• Dressed up as a pirate for almost every Halloween, except for the one year he went as a mermaid.

Fig:

• Loves climbing things. Will climb most trees and sits in windowsills high up.

• Puts rings around her horns to look cool.

• Loves sour candy.

• Makes her own earrings out of mementos from important moments.

• Learned how to read tarot in middle school because she thought it was cool. Now gives the party readings for fun.

Gorgug:

• Loves to do art. Will doodle in margins of school notes and on scrap paper. Mainly draws flowers.

• Can and will carry his friends at any point. Will pick up Fig and put her on his shoulders, and gives Zelda piggyback rides.

• Writes poetry/music in his free time.

• Loves baking with his parents. They did it when he was younger, and now likes to make treats for the party.

• Is banned from playing Uno at game nights after he entered a rage when Fabian +4-ed him

Kristen:

• Makes friendship bracelets for the party; one out of knotted and braided threads, one with beads in their favourite colours with their initials, and one with flowers and grasses.

• Takes polaroid pictures of the party all the time.

• Stops by the Applebee's House every so often to give her brothers toys/gifts.

• Loves getting her hair played with. She always lets Tracker braid her hair, or gets Adaine to put it in an intricate style.

Riz:

• Really good at Beyblades.

• Keeps anything and everything that could be helpful in his briefcase of holding. This includes snacks and water, bandages and other medical things, and pads/tampons.

• Forever stealing the other members clothes, usually Gorgug's hoodies or Fabian's letterman jacket

• Hates putting sugar or any sweeteners in his coffee.

• On the very rare occasion that he sleeps, he curls up into a little ball. He refuses to admit this fact, especially to Fabian.

Bad Kids (as a group):

• Play Mario Kart together very often. Gorgug has never won.

• The aux cord has been banned in VanBoat, as it leads to too much chaos and conflict. The only exception is if it's only Fig and Gorgug together.

• They all tried to teach Gorgug some Elvish for missions, but he could not pick up anything.

• Everyone went to the opening of the LGBT student union to support Kristen, without telling her. She got confused and thought they were all coming out at once.

• Riz and Gorgug once both got stuck in a pit of mud, and Fabian got stuck trying to get them out. He had to call The Hangman, which also got stuck.

The empty music room in the House of Lamentations rarely found itself occupied on a weekly basis from the moment the seven demon brothers had lived there. It may have had its occasional visitors and but beyond the Master coming in to play, most of the house occupants left it alone to be cleaned by the Little Ds. Of course, as a proud piano that had been played with by well-known composers, the Piano had found itself lonely ever since the Master had stopped dropping by.

It had missed the feeling of making beautiful music that would be heard throughout the House. Of gentle fingers pressing its shiny and beautiful ivory keys and glossy pedals being stepped on. The adoration of its Master with each sound played as they went through the music sheets.

That was until you arrived, as a piano that had lived long and been maintained by demon magic, it had gained semi-sentience over the centuries. Thus the Piano had developed its own nature and modeled after its Master. It was lonely but pride kept it from influencing you to play with it the moment you stepped in the room.

"Oh! Well aren't you a thing of a beauty?"

If the Piano could have blushed it would have, as it basked in your praise and the gentle admiration of your fingers as it glided through its black glossy paint. And when your hands, gently opened its cover, as well as opening its top, the Grand Piano couldn't help but shiver in excitement!

'Play me!' It screamed!

And you paused, blinking at it in wonder.

'Another cursed item?' you thought wary but amused at the same time.

"Don't curse me if I play badly okay?" You spoke to it and then sat on the chair and began doing warm ups.

The Piano was only too happy at being played again. It enjoyed the feeling of its keys being pressed again and again until it realized that it was playing a tune different from its Master's. The piece though unfamiliar was beautiful but the happy and joyful tune made it feel slightly uncomfortable.

It had, after all, never played such music before.

And as if noticing its reluctance, your fingers slowly stopped as you reached the end and let the final tune hang in the air.

"Ah, I guess that tune is a bit too much?" You smiled at the piano sadly.

And the Piano mourned at the possibility you wouldn't play it anymore.

"That's okay," you patted it "We'll work our way up to there! We've got a whole year after all!"

And though it had no face nor any way of showing emotion, you were quite sure the Piano was pleased and glad at what you said. You smiled and left the music room.

You would play the piano daily, 2-3 hours right after arriving from RAD or after dinner if you had homework. Mammon would at times accompany you and you'd teach him. Letting him videotape your practice and make money out of it.

Other times Levi would join you and request a piano rendition of an anime credit or a TSL soundtrack played on the piano. You'd obliged and let yourself drown in the music and playing for your audience of one or two. And it kept going om until it became some sort of initiation for your darling demons to listen to you play.

Mammon had been the first one to point it out,

"It's really weird hearin' this thing play happy music at all yanno?"

"That's true! Lucifer ever only played sad music or lullabies on it!" Levi added.

"Yup! Belphie used to have a hard time sleeping so Lucifer used to play for him..." Beel revealed and you slowed down, waiting to see if Asmo had something to say.

"That's true~! I'm so glad that I'm not hearing a lot of sad or sleepy tunes anymore though!" He replied as he snuggled om your side, "Ne~ why don't you play a more romantic tune!"

Asmo begged and as you were never one to deny your demons, you began playing amidst the background of fighting starting up among your demons. You laughed as you pressed the keys and somehow Chopin's Nocturne in E Flat Major had become something else entirely.

The joyful press of your fingers, the laughter echoing in the room, the energetic brotherly fights between your demons. All of this had slowly influenced the Piano, who so used to the gentle and sad tunes its Master played, slowly found itself enjoying the new sounds you were introducing it too.

It was slowly learning that gentleness could also come with the sweetness of joy. Thus, for the first time in a long while its inhabitants felt at ease.

A gentle and sweet music could be heard, softly, coming out from the House of Lamentation. And anyone with a discerning ear would be able to tell the pianist's thoughts as music played.

The next time the Piano saw you, it felt the weariness on your bones and the tiredness of your soul. It felt aggrieved for you, its other Master, who played fun and beautiful tunes in its ivory pieces.

“I’m sorry, I don’t think I can play any fun pieces on you right now” You apologized to it, beautiful fingers gently caressing its ivory keys. 

It had no voice, and was not powerful enough to convey its feelings even so the Piano did its best to tell you that it was fine, that it didn’t need you to play any fun pieces. It only wanted you to play it.

You blinked and smiled gently at the Piano, sensing its thoughts you gingerly sat on the seat and began playing Liesbesleid’s Love’s Sorrow

I have so many where do I even start

First I'll talk about truthful route specific hcs then transition to more general ones

Miu handles big scary rides way better than Takuma does so she becomes Minoru's go-to amusement park buddy

Shuuji sleeps holding Lopmon like a teddy bear

Akiharu goes from being the crazy eccentric at his university to being THE guy everyone goes to for answers. He gets a raise and a published textbook which is good because he accidentally became a single father of four (someone's gotta raise Miyuki, and Shuuji, Miu, and Kaito's parents don't deserve them) and could use the funds.

He, Miyuki, and Renamon teach the other kids and mons the piano with varying degrees of success. Dracmon, as it happens, does the best. Please imagine him for whatever reason coming across an organ someday and playing dramatic vampire music. That is all.

Saki finally learns to stop caring what people think of her because any friend worth having is one that'll love her for her real self. She loses a lot of her old friends that way but good riddance.

Ryo and Kaito are both actually quite book smart but stopped trying in school after Certain Traumatic Life Events. After getting back to the real world, Ryo finally starts trying again bc he remembers what it's like to care about his future again. Miu more or less forces Kaito to do better because she'll be damned if he can't graduate and she's stuck going to the same school as him forever.

Aoi is the only member of the group who can pass off her partner as a support animal and bring her everywhere and anywhere.

All the mons with at least one evo that has a more humanoid form have a human disguise they can use in the real world. That being said, please imagine Ceresmon Medium or Beelzemon working retail. Like how freaking funny would that be.

Minoru and Takuma were falsely led to believe that Kaito is bad at video games because Miu said she always beats him. He then proceeded to destroy them at every game they own. He's not a bad gamer, just a good brother.

Speaking of games, Minoru and Kaito are banned from board game night with The Squad after they nearly killed each other over Uno.

Third game related hc in a row but Floramon and Dracmon are the best at poker while Falcomon, Lopmon and Agumon suck. Kunemon, Labramon, and Syakomon unfortunately do not have hands to play without everyone seeing their cards. Sometimes their partners will help with this, but card cames aren't exactly Ryo's or Miu's idea of a good time.

Ryo is afraid of spiders. I wonder why.

Dracmon hates keeping to a diurnal schedule. As soon as they're all in the real world, he's up all night and asleep for as much of the day as he can get away with (usually when Kaito's at school). He's a bad influence on the kid's sleep schedule, but it's not like it's on purpose.

Getting into the more general stuff

Dracmon would absolutely leave eyes in random places as a prank

Aoi also likes romcoms so she and Takuma give each other manga and movie recs. They have an unspoken agreement not to let Minoru or Saki find out because that's too embarrassing.

Neither of the Shinonome siblings are cis or het and this is the hill I die on.

Minoru snores. Loudly. At least one night in the Other World, Takuma had to stop Kaito from smothering him in his sleep over it.

Speaking of hair, Kaito is really pretty with his down. It is for this exact reason that it is ALWAYS up, even when he sleeps.

Most of these kids can't cook to save their lives. Shuuji is particularly skilled at accidentally lighting fires. If Miu wants to experiment with spices, RUN.

Takuma's goggles are prescription. His eyesight isn't that bad, but they help his depth perception when he's playing sports. I don't wanna accuse him of being a soccer player like certain other goggle heads...so I'm gonna come in with another hc and say he's good at tennis.

Miu is the kind of kid who would write fanfic in an open notebook in the middle of class with 0 shits given. In the Moral and Truthful Routes (and yknow what fuck it why not Wrathful, too) I like to think she would start posting shit online and Minoru would be her beta reader. If Kaito's jealous that she didn't ask him instead, he doesn't say it.

Takuma is bad at math. I have no real reason for believing this, he just feels like a guy who's bad at math. Maybe it's just because he reminds me too much of Sora from Kingdom Hearts.

Little Spencer Reid headcanons

(I am a bit run dry of Jj headcanons 🫠 but this was a lot of fun, little Reid is so cute)

It starts with him involuntary regressing during a case, packing, rushing to ask Garcia for help who then directs him to Morgan

Him and Derek spend the whole night together, making up an excuse as to why Derek has to room with Reid and not rossi

He really doesn’t like his regression at first, thinking of it as a flaw but eventually Blake, Jj and Derek get him to be more open with it

Blake is shamelessly little Spencer’s favorite person to be around

They’re attached at the hip, literally he stands so their hip bones hit

Blake adores having Spencer around just as much as he does her so it all works out

However Blake can’t give piggy back rides like Morgan so he wins that department

As un-athletic as Reid is, he loves to run around with Derek when small

They always end up tumbled onto the grass laughing hysterically about it

Jj has videos to prove it

She’s someone Spencer can go to with problems about his regression as she experiences similar ones

Reid really enjoys puzzles when small, it keeps him occupied for a while so they’re great for the plane

He still plays chess and checkers but Hotch was able to beat him once when Spencer was little

The nickname Spence is his favorite when small

He’s very independent considering how he raised himself but he’s working on asking for help

His favorite weather is rain so he can go jumping in puddles or drag Derek to go feed the ducks

He lets Penny do his hair when it’s longer and she can add clips, his little brain very much likes it

He’s such a giggly little guy

There are times when he vent regresses and it’s always tough, Blake and Derek help a lot during those times

He can go non-verbal when vent regressing so Blake teaches him a bit of sign language, Derek gets the same lessons

Blake also tries to teach Reid some words from any of the languages she knows, he picks up on it quickly, much to Alex’s delight

Loves to mess around with pianos/keyboards when small

As much as he loves books, he’d rather steal Morgan’s headphones to go through his playlists

It’s the only time Reid willingly listens to any of Derek’s music

Very oblivious to if he’s just making noises so chances are Blake will walk into a room to be greeted with Reid’s squeals

Rides Morgan’s back at any given chance

Blake, Morgan, Jj and Spencer all go to the carnival when Reid’s regressed

He never cared for it when big but little him is ecstatic

Rides the carousel a million times til Derek distracts him with a game

Forces Blake and Morgan to compete to win a stuffed animal while Jj tapes it all

Blake and Jj are the bag holders while Spencer and Morgan go on rides, only the low grade kid ones as Reid is not ready for anything more

The night ends with Derek carrying a sleeping Reid back to the car, Blake struggling to keep all his new toys from dropping to the ground and Jj balancing fair food on top of her camcorder that’s still recording

Needless to say they do it all over again the next year
