Jesus fucking christ read The Lady's Handbook For Her Mysterious Illness
#she really just came out and said the driving reason why we bother to see doctors at all these days#we're getting by on microdosing 'being heard' and people tell us to be grateful to have even that#but is it really 'being heard' if what theyre sharing is one off lines. one per doctor for us to look back on and feel real?#one from our previous doctor. one from a passing female nurse. one from the cardiac nurse. one from our physio#a lot of the time the things we latch on to to 'feel heard' arent even real acknowledgements#just a lack of opposition#which is what we normally face#we latched onto our new doctor so hard because in our first (and only - so far) appointment with her#she acknowledged our pain and suffering and difficulties - from both our illnesses and our lack of treatment - three times#thats all it took for us to switch to a new more expensive doctor that we cant actually afford to see regularly#compared to the doctor we could afford to see regularly (who was so booked out we saw him once every three months - if that)#shes the first doctor we've ever been excited to actually go back to. the first doctor we've been genuinely wholeheartedly excited to see#three acknowledgements on the first appointment. thats all it took. thats all we needed to have hope in a doctor again#we actually feel like we would get regular acknowledgements from her. not just the singular one to look back on out of years of appointments#trying not to get our hopes up because we've been crushed before but its hard

The Role of Physiotherapy in TMJ Disorder
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder can cause significant pain and discomfort in the jaw joint and surrounding muscles. While there are various treatment options available, physiotherapy has emerged as a valuable approach to managing TMJ disorders. In Pune, individuals dealing with TMJ issues can find relief and support from qualified physiotherapists who specialize in treating this condition.
Understanding TMJ Disorder:
TMJ disorder refers to a range of conditions affecting the temporomandibular joint, which connects the jawbone to the skull. Symptoms may include jaw pain, difficulty chewing or opening the mouth, clicking or popping sounds, headaches, and facial discomfort. Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in addressing these symptoms by focusing on pain reduction, improving jaw function, and promoting overall well-being.
The Role of Physiotherapy:
Physiotherapy offers a holistic and non-invasive approach to treating TMJ disorder. A physiotherapist in Pune will begin by conducting a comprehensive evaluation to understand the underlying causes and assess the severity of your condition. They will then develop a personalized treatment plan to address your specific needs.
Treatment Techniques:
Physiotherapy for TMJ disorder utilizes various techniques that aim to reduce pain, improve jaw mobility, and restore normal function. These may include:
1. Jaw exercises: The physiotherapist will prescribe specific exercises to strengthen and stretch the muscles around the jaw joint, promoting improved jaw movement and reducing muscle tension.
2. Manual therapy: Hands-on techniques, such as joint mobilization and soft tissue manipulation, can help increase joint mobility, alleviate pain, and release muscle tension.
3. Heat or cold therapy: The application of heat or cold packs to the jaw area can reduce pain, inflammation, and muscle spasm.
4. Ultrasound therapy: Ultrasound waves can penetrate deep into the tissues, promoting healing, improving blood flow, and reducing pain and inflammation.
5. Electrical stimulation: Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) involves the use of low-level electrical currents to relieve pain and relax muscles.
6. Posture correction: Correcting poor posture can alleviate strain on the jaw joint. Physiotherapists in Pune can provide guidance on proper head and neck alignment and ergonomic modifications.
7. Education and self-care: Physiotherapists will educate you about proper jaw mechanics, relaxation techniques, and self-care strategies, empowering you to manage your TMJ symptoms effectively.
Finding Relief:
If you're experiencing TMJ disorder, seeking the expertise of a qualified physiotherapist is essential. Look for physiotherapy clinics or practitioners who specialize in TMJ disorders. They will have the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to provide a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs, helping you find relief and regain a pain-free quality of life.

Also, spinal misalignment, scoliosis & kyphosis can usually still be corrected in children & young adults without surgery, if you shop sound for the right doctor & expert. If you leave it until adulthood, it takes a lot more to treat it, and unless you know exactly what caused it & a fair amount of your family's medical history, you're gonna be given the option of physical therapy to manage the pain or surgery which won't guarantee less pain at all.
Hot tip for parents both present and future: When your kid tells you something is wrong, listen to them!
Sorry for not posting much lately, I’ve been busy with work and personal stuff, including an upcoming spinal x-ray I’ve been waiting over a decade for and the angriest doctor I’ve ever met in my life
#I'm 24 & have had my idiopathic scoliosis tracked since i was 8(?)#from 8 - 12 it was still possible for my spine to fix itself via growth sprouts - it was a coin flip...#...whether they'd fix it or make it worse#so i decided i wanted to wait rather than treat it#i also got taken to a chiropractor around this time (i know i know) for maybe a year???#by 15 my spine had gone from slightly curved to a full 'S'#from 15 - 17 i was offered surgery more than 10 times#i refused all of them because i didn't trust doctors or surgeons enough to put my entire life & future in their hands#I'd had surgery on my ribcage twice by then i KNEW how much i needed to trust them to let them operate on my spine#and that was a trust they didn't have#i haven't had an xray since then & I went to physio for maybe 8 months total from 18 - 20#at 23 i discovered somatic therapy for scoliosis & it treats it holistically by working on the muscles AROUND the spine...#...which impact it & determine its placement & position & strength etc#I have now been doing that inconsistently for around 9 months & have straightened my lower spine#i can run my fingers over my vertibrae & they're in a staight line down the center of my lower back#i am continuing with somatic therapy to straighten my upper spine too#is it easy? no. is it emotionally draining? sometimes. do i sometimes overlook it or procrastinate doing it because im tired or bored? yes.#however... is it worth it? yes. do i wish a doctor had given me this option at least once over the past 10+ years? yes.#am i lowley angry at the fact i got told i couldn't cure it with surgery AS A CHILD but am now straightening it myself as an adult...#...while KNOWING if i mention this to a doctor who doesn't “believe in” holistic treatments then I'll be laughed at or told to stop? YES.#i plan on getting a spinal checkup later this yesr at a specialist clinic i spent 4 months researching because i wanna SEE my spine#and i wanna be able to talk about this out loud#I've had genetic testing & as far as i was told there was no cause or underlying reason for my scoliosis - so it's idiopathic#(meaning drs dont know what caused it)#my mother also has idiopathic scoliosis & ive watched her body deteriorate over the laat 12+ years because she has not been treated...#...for it aince she was a child & the only treatment back then was putting a lift in her shoes to compensate#it did nothing to help & she's tried acupuncture for the pain but hasn't had the spine treated since she was 12(?)#and honestly???? im terrified of losing control of my body the way she has lost control of hers#so am i willing to risk doing somatic therapy if it is the only thing which has given me hope of control & a future with a straight spine???#yes. a million times yes.

1. What is manual therapy?
Manual therapy is a hands-on treatment used to relieve pain and improve mobility, involving techniques like joint manipulation, mobilization, and soft tissue work. 2. How does manual therapy work?
It uses movements and pressure on muscles, joints, and tissues to reduce pain, improve range of motion, and promote healing. 3. What conditions can manual therapy treat?
Manual therapy can help treat conditions like:Back and neck pain Joint problems (e.g., arthritis) Sports injuries Muscle strains and sprains Headaches 4. Is manual therapy painful?
It should not be painful, although you may feel mild discomfort. Always inform your therapist if it’s too intense. 5. How long does a session last?
Manual therapy sessions usually last between 30 minutes and an hour. 6. Is manual therapy safe?
Yes, when performed by trained professionals, it is safe. Always discuss your health history to ensure it’s right for you. 7. How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your condition and how well you respond. Some people may need just a few sessions, others may need more. 8. Can I combine manual therapy with other treatments?
Yes, manual therapy can be combined with other physiotherapy treatments, such as exercises, heat/cold therapy, and medications, for better results. 9. Can manual therapy help with chronic pain?

Physiotherapy includes a broader range of treatments, such as exercises, stretches, and modalities like ultrasound or electrical stimulation, in addition to manual therapy. 11. Is manual therapy the same as massage?
While both involve hands-on techniques, manual therapy focuses on treating specific joint or muscle problems, while massage is more about relaxing muscles and improving circulation. 12. What should I expect after a session?
After manual therapy, you might feel mild soreness, similar to post-workout soreness, but you should notice improved mobility and less pain. 13. Who performs manual therapy?

While your GP refers you to a neurologist, do ask for a physio referral as well. A physio can help by working on your neck and shoulder muscles. Through a massage and by showing you exercises you can do to help strengthen them.
here's your regular reminder that if you consistently, regularly get headaches, you are almost certainly having migraines, not regular headaches.
MOST recurrent headaches are migraine headaches.
"migraine" does not mean "extremely painful headache." it is a type and source of pain, not a degree of pain. migraines can also include some or all of the following: fatigue, sensitivity to light and sound, visual auras, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, cognitive impairment, etc. these symptoms can be mild or severe and it may actually be difficult to determine if you have them. (who wants a bright light in their eyes during a headache?? i thought that's just how headaches were lmao.)
this is important because while aspirin, NSAIDs like ibuprofren, and other over-the-counter pain meds can effectively alleviate migraine pain, getting diagnosed with migraines allows for a wider range of treatments and preventatives.
it's also important because, in my opinion, your average general practice doctor is not equipped to diagnose you with chronic migraine. don't go to one expecting them to. a neurologist with migraine specialty is a better option, although a regular doctor can still be useful if they listen to you lol.
my life would be miserable and unmanageable without sumatriptan. and i never would have gotten a prescription for sumatriptan if i hadn't gone to my GP and said, "i have migraines and want to try migraine medicine," even though at the time i wasn't 100% sure that was true.
if you have chronic headaches, they're almost certainly migraines. if no one has said that to you before, let me be the first. start treating your migraines.
#Do see a neurologist#If possible#And track your headaches / migraines!!#There's an app called migraine buddy that did the job for me#Helped me realize I hadn't been pain free in several months#And now I've started a treatment that works I'm still tracking 'cause gotta see if it's helping long term#And I.m seeing a physio every week#He was surprised that I had good mobility#Well neck and shoulder#But yeah it's not necessarily a problem due to mobility it's just muscles getting tense af or too tired and that pain or tiredness can#Trigger headaches#I haven't had migraines that forced me to stop everything in 2 weeks and that's so nice#While my schedule was packed and I wasn't rested enough#This would have meant many poor evenings usually

Top 10 Conditions Effectively Treated by Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a highly effective treatment for a wide range of conditions, helping people recover from injury, manage pain, and improve mobility. While physiotherapy may not always "cure" a condition in the traditional sense, it can significantly reduce symptoms, improve quality of life, and even restore function.
Here are the top 10 conditions that can benefit from physiotherapy:
1. Back Pain
Back pain, particularly lower back pain, is one of the most common reasons people seek physiotherapy. Physiotherapists can use manual therapy, strengthening exercises, and postural training to reduce pain, improve mobility, and prevent future injuries.
2. Neck Pain
Neck pain and stiffness, often caused by poor posture or injury, can be treated with physiotherapy. Techniques like manual therapy, stretching, and strengthening exercises can help alleviate pain and improve mobility.
3. Osteoarthritis
Physiotherapy plays a vital role in managing osteoarthritis, particularly in the knees, hips, and spine. Through strengthening exercises, manual therapy, and education on activity modification, physiotherapy can reduce pain and improve joint function.
4. Sports Injuries
Sports-related injuries, such as sprains, strains, ligament tears, and tendonitis, can benefit from physiotherapy. A physiotherapist can provide rehabilitation exercises, manual therapy, and injury prevention strategies to help athletes recover and return to their sport.
5. Post-Surgical Rehabilitation
After surgery, such as joint replacement or ligament repair, physiotherapy is essential for regaining strength, flexibility, and mobility. Customized rehabilitation programs help restore function and speed up recovery.
6. Stroke Rehabilitation
Physiotherapy is crucial for stroke patients to help them regain lost motor function, improve balance, and enhance coordination. Targeted exercises and techniques, such as gait training and neuromuscular re-education, can significantly improve mobility and independence.
7. Chronic Pain Conditions (e.g., Fibromyalgia)
Chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia or myofascial pain syndrome can be managed through physiotherapy. Techniques such as exercise therapy, manual therapy, and education on pain management can help reduce symptoms and improve daily functioning.
8. Postural Problems
Poor posture, often due to sitting for long periods or muscle imbalances, can lead to pain and discomfort. Physiotherapists can develop personalized exercise programs to correct posture, strengthen weak muscles, and alleviate pain in areas like the neck, shoulders, and back.
9. Plantar Fasciitis
This condition causes heel pain due to inflammation of the tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes. Physiotherapists can use stretching exercises, manual therapy, and orthotics to relieve pain and help restore normal walking patterns.
10. Sciatica
Sciatica, characterized by pain radiating down the leg from the lower back, is often caused by a herniated disc or nerve compression. Physiotherapy can help alleviate symptoms through spinal manipulation, stretching, strengthening exercises, and posture correction.
Bonus: Balance and Gait Problems
Conditions like vertigo, vestibular disorders, or Parkinson’s disease can affect balance and coordination. Physiotherapists use specialized techniques, such as vestibular rehabilitation or balance exercises, to improve stability and reduce the risk of falls.
