Utena’s Caged Intelligence

Something of a continuation of this.

TL;DR Ohtori, like pretty much every school, was not designed for those with developing intelligence (like middle schoolers) to be able to grow and flourish.

So I’ve gone over a little bit of the initial curiosity of Utena and how that diminished, but I wanted to address some topics I might have missed because I mainly focused on Utena’s logic.

When I say logic, I mean her matter of fact/overtly blunt manner of problem solving. She forces her way through problems headstrong, making her solutions equate to the dumb joke stereotype. She sees things in a straight line in a world that is determined to pave only curved roads. Her logic makes her the biggest moron in a world of the illogical. This can actually be seen in Miki as well. Miki is an artist at heart, but doesn’t think he can express himself that way because of the “feminine” nature he’s been taught the language of art is. Miki tries to translate his artistic thoughts into logical dialog, and because of his inability to correlate his mind and voice it makes him one of the easiest characters to manipulate; he’ll mimic what those around him says-especially after an emotional moment-because that must be how a regular “logical” speaker would act.

Utena is similar to a degree, she’s just in no way self aware. Less frantic than Miki, but easier to condition once you can tug Utena’s logic away from her own and onto someone else’s (Akio’s).

Utena is not allowed to come to her own conclusions. Akio or Anthy or whatever student council member has been enlisted are all quick to put her in situations that derive her of exploring other options. It becomes that the best way to solve her problems is to go along with the duels (to the point that she challenges Touga to a duel purely for herself and her own issues, because that’s how problems are solved at Ohtori).

I think the best way to dumb this thought process down is to think that everyone is playing a game. Utena plays by the book and is a naturally very skilled player, others will have mind games or better items to try to gain an upper hand; but then there are players like Touga, Akio, and Anthy who have cheats enabled, but Utena is unable to realize this.

Lastly, the point that can slip people’s mind is that Utena is 14 and the people pulling the strings are all older than her/more experienced. Akio is in his twenties or thirties(not even counting that he might be a magical immortal deity), Touga is both an upper classmen but someone who appears to be living the most ‘adult’ lifestyle of all the underage duelists (the mindest for them is very much sex=maturity/power), and Anthy’s bread and butter is preparing sacrifices for her brother(as well as being a maybe immortal witch).

Her age is Utena’s greatest detriment in the game she’s playing. The only characters that get manipulated as much as she does are Miki and Nanami (Nanami especially) and they are the youngest of the duelists. Yet there are the scant few times it gives her strength, such as her duel with Wakaba (but even then, this duel gave Akio that firm line in the sand he would need to eliminate to further bring Utena under his control).

A school is supposed to be where you go to grow your logical intelligence, while being placed in an environment meant to grow your social intelligence. Ohtori, under Akio’s direction, does not comply to this standard: they value the independence of the students. Something that sounds good, until you remember that these are kids still in need of support, support Akio is glad to provide as he frames himself as the only truly mature and reliable presence in these children’s lives.

Crazy how being a kid is like "oh ow i fell down and scraped my knee how traumatizing guess this will be a core memory for the rest of my life" and being a grown up is like "oh ow i fell down and scraped my knee no biggie I'll be fine i just won't be able yo walk for the next three days"

I just imagine MC talking with The Irish House's about the incident with Adrei and MC giving them their verdict and asks them have we not bleed enough for our independence?. before taking off their upper clothing and showing their battle scars, saying show me your scars and I will show you mine.

My sister Adrei is not in her right mind due to all her phsysical and mental scars from the rebellion and that's why we decide they will be locked away in Camelot for the safety of everyone involved until further notice and The House's directly affected by her actions will be compensated for the potential finacial loss of trade deals with our brother's deceased wife and lands belonging to the fallen house belong to our sibling as the last living member of said house and he may do as he pleases with said lands as it's his right as the only living Lord of the House.

You know, probably the Houses will settle considerably if they were given assurance of Adrei being kept in Camelot, as her House failed to contain her. Plus, compensation.

Arthur would need to placate them with some concessions, maybe some land or a portion of the trade Emyr's wife managed before. Emyr would become Lord, though in all probability the lands would be under direct control of the King for a while.

Could you explain on how the common cold works? Like how do you catch it?

the common cold is not one single virus, but rather hundreds of different types (a handful of 'main' viruses with hundreds of different subtypes and mutations), but the most common cause of colds in many cases is the rhinovirus and its many many many variants! rhinovirus is a respiratory infection that is spread primarily through the air, and you can see how this tends to be a problem, because we do unfortunately need to breathe.... there are several different ways you can catch the cold, but most often it tends to be either direct transmition through the air or through phsysical proximity (being indoors with someone who is infected and breathing it in, or directly touching or perhaps kissing someone who is sick for example), or indirect transmission, such as touching a surface which the virus has spread to and then touching your mouth or nose. the virus can then of course very easily find its way into your respiratory tract and begin to multiply and so on...

if you are sick with some form of respiratory illness, it is highly recommended to wear a mask while in public spaces to avoid spreading said illness to others! and, if you arent sick but would like to take some basic precautions to avoid it, remembering to wash your hands and to avoid contact with someone who you know is sick until they have recovered is a good start!

i've STILL been studying writing and the overall craft of What Makes A Good Story and ngl i'm so in love with it that for the first time in my life im like "oh but what if i DID go to college (for english) but as of rn i shant

now im rereading some old work from age 12 all the way until regenerate fate and im like god i have so many problems with my writing i SUCK. but then i recall how many of you kind folks have complimented my writing and stuff and im like oh no it's not that i'm Bad its just that now that i've learned how i could have been Better its so blaringly obvious in everything im reading lol.

that being said. the setting for the book is 2012ish seattle in autumn. and i am learning how to PROPERLY use pinterest for the first time in my life in order to Secure the Aesthetics and i'm having like. fun. planning my novel. i

i've always been very vocal about just sitting down and writing 10 pages without Any prior planning and just Pants'ing it. however. i am using a trial of scrivener and Meticulously Planning everything that i am so so so obsessed with this. like i feel like that one Its Always Sunny meme of charlie w the board in the best way

anyways, i'm going to be very hyped abt this for a while i think it's my current passion project since i can no longer draw or really do any phsysical hobby (which has also led to my lifelong realization that i'd like to be a writer specifically, and that it's always been my biggest strongsuit in school and i somehow never realized it. writing still hurts but it hurts the least so whateva).

the story has changed a lot since i last posted about it but it's still a slasher / thriller / Is It Supernatural or Is It Psychological kinda story

First of all, the Finding Home arc HAS BROKEN 100 PANELS!!! That's so many!!!! ( technically the first part of the comic had 165, but since I didn't separate it into arcs in my files, I think Finding Home has the most!!

AND I'M NOT EVEN HALF DONE WITH IT :D

Also, here's some stuff about my process in actually drawing the comic:

-Sketch ( sometimes in a phsysical notebook and then sketched in csp)

-lineart

-flat colors

-embellisments/shading (like Leo's pink highlights)

-gradient map over the color layer

-merge layers and export :D

And then from here I cut a panel, create canvas from clipboard, then resize accordingly and export :)

I'm realizing it probably has a lot of unecessary steps/work but it's what works for me :))))

Anyway, Idk if anyone is actually interested, but in like a week or so, I will also post a timelapse thing that shows it all (except for the clipping and resizing lmao)

Maybe he had used his ability on one of his parents (who I think were like, protectors of the book or something) after they tried to protect the book for Fyodor, and he had taken over there body.

I think it's important to mention due to the tamarack / nadia poll that screaming racism / fatphobia as a joke can be of bad taste.

Both character are really interessing outside of their phsysical appearance and i don't deny the importance of it ( there is a lack of diversity in romance visual novel fandoms that they both stand against which is great ) but reducing them to it can feed hatred to some people and reduce their complexity to physical attribute which is sad :(

Tamarack is a ray of sunshines and a lovely character who is both kind and bright with a complexe emotional developement.

Nadia is beautiful and has a complexe storyline that makes her an interessing character to learn about.

Does nana phsysical strength comes from training or from her lupine genesi?

Mainly her Lupine genes as Lupines are hella strong in general.

If she were simply human, she wouldn't be able to decapitate someone by merely sucker punching them. But she got her big wolf genes from her daddy and so she remains a threat.

Her father did train her when she was younger which is why she is so good at fighting. So physically, she strong from her genetics. Mentally, she strong from her dad teaching her.
