Lions (no tigers or bears this time though).
Doesn’t this just look cozy? I love cats of all kinds so this was a treat. Just so you know, I used the telephoto lens on my cannon to get these shots. We were close, but not that close. Our guide advised us to be as quiet as possible, so the animal don’t get startled. All these photos were taken from inside our trusty vehicle.
He is keeping close tabs on her.
One of the places we visited on our trip was Meru National Park. Do you remember the movie “ Born Free”. If not, see if you can find it. A tear jerker in the best way and even picky guys will like it. Anyway, without spoiling the plot if you haven’t seen the movie, Meru features prominently. (If you have seen it, your age is showing 😉).
King of the beasts for sure.
Travel note: you won’t get much exercise on safari so you may need to develop a routine on your own. We do sit ups every morning and take steps instead of elevators whenever possible. When not on safari we walk.

The food was great, a little too good. Our first night there we ate at the Carnivore Restaurant, they did have vegetarian options, I tried all kinds of things (not all were veggie).

May I ask you a silly question? Are photoshoots with your dog a training activity? Like, is it behaviors you taught and give rewards and things? I am not a dog owner yet but I know I will want to take pretty photos of my future dog and I want it to be something fun for us both. Thanks for your time :)
YES!
Photoshoots require a lot of mental work and having to perform tricks we trained like sit, down (yes, those are tricks), waving, bowing, head down, jumping up on things, just putting her paws on something, etc.
Or sometimes she gets into position and has to stay as still as possible (her wait cue).
Generally it's a lot of staying, me moving away from her and her having to pay attention to me and listening to my directions.
If you sell all of that as a super fun activity and reward with treats or playtime (which can be a great mind reset to keep things fun and to loosen up a bit again if things don't work out like you want to).
It can definitely be frustrating at times when the surroundings are too interesting and you didn't bring the right arguments. In those moments your choice is either to not take photos that day and accept it as a pudding brain day. Or you can try to make things interesting with the things you have available and just exude a lot of positive energy and praise towards your dog.
If you have a mental block, they get a mental block and no one is gonna have fun.
Also - always pay your models!
If you have more questions I'd be more than happy to keep rambling on about dog photography :)
#and when you're good your dog becomes a camera fanatic#and you can use your camera as an invisible leash#bc your dog thinks it's too much fun to move away and do other things#bad side of that is that your dog wants to snog every photographer at dog sport events#remind me to take videos during our next photo safari#to show how i give her directions
