Sorry to folks using screen readers – for a while there I'd been pretty diligent about adding alt-text before I took a break when I lost access to my editing software, but somehow when I came back I totally spaced it. This morning updated the posts I've made since then (I've been slowly, slowly working on really early posts to this blog before I started alt-text). I wish adding alt-text could affect reblogs because I know some recent posts got a decent amount of exposure and went out into the world totally naked.

I'm struggling to figure out best practices for adding alt-text to a mostly-photos blog, especially one that posts a lot of photo sets. Is it ever relevant to share what media type it is, or is that just annoying noise? I've seen different takes on different accessibility guides. Do you mind if I reference previous photos in the set if they are depicting the same scene from, say, a different angle with some added elements? What can I do to make my photosets a less disruptive addition to your dash, if someone you follow is reblogging them (or if you happen to follow me). Usually I am trying to evoke a comprehensive scene with some feeling and some sensory associations when I put together a photoset, and I try to add those sensory details to the alt text for folks with low or no vision. Is that useful for you, or does that just take up more time to get through? Is color information just noise, or does it convey useful/tone info for some folks?
