Honestly just the layers you could get out of Yuuko’s answer here. “I am as I always am” is just casual enough to be an actual conversational answer - if you said something like “the same as always” it’d fit right into any regular conversation. But this is Yuuko Ichihara, who is an unchanging being stuck in a hole in the universe, confined by rules and unable to break certain guidelines. She is always the same as she always is, she always exists the same way (until not too long into the future, anyway).
But this could also be a sign of how guarded Yuuko is, even with people she likes. She cares very deeply for the people close to her, but even then she has to keep herself at a distance. She can’t do anything that would put them in debt to her and so is forced to watch from a distance, guiding when she can and hinting when she can’t, but never doing as much as she clearly wishes she could. Or maybe she doesn’t even allow herself to wish for it, since she knows the danger of wishes.
And yet we still want to know. How IS Yuuko? How is she? Is she ok?
But we don’t get a full answer. Maybe the full answer would come with a price. Or maybe even Yuuko herself never lets herself be anything other than ‘the same as she always is’.
Either way! The lovely psychic on the other end of the phone probably knows this all too well and offers her a gentle way out with a joke about liquor. Which is also not wrong.

ALBERT HAMMOND JR.: After I moved in with Catherine and he moved in with Juliet, we just didn't hang out the same way anymore. I missed his energy. I got sad; I felt a distance between us. That was a big part for me in this band—just hanging out with him, just being friends with him. We lived together for seven years. I've never lived with a girl that long.
JULIAN CASABLANCAS: Does that mean anything to me? I mean, of course. The way I remember it, we were roommates and we moved places and I wanted to stay roommates and I feel like maybe he was not so into it anymore. Albert, you don't know what you've got til it's gone, baby!
— Albert and Julian on Julian's marriage to Juliet, from Meet Me In The Bathroom by Lizzy Goodman, interviewed around 2011 (x)

yan chrollo's most efficient punishment for when you've been misbehaving is to make you talk on the phone with customer service or something similarly dreadful. perhaps the bank if you've been particularly troublesome.

Jessie does use a phone at the very very beginning of act 2 to look at twiddler prayers but it is pretty funny to me considering she made Twiddler the mandatory channel for praying to her. Forcing anyone in distress to contact her via social media and then taking a permanent social media hiatus For Her Mental Health
