Nominating to an Ao3 Tagset for the Holiday Exchange

This tutorial should walk you through nominating tags for the MCYTBLR Holiday Exchange!

When it's time to sign up, you can only use tags that are part of the tag set already. This is to make sure that we don't have one person sign up with Grian/GoodTimesWithScar (Hermitcraft) and one person sign up with Grian/GoodTimesWithScar (Hermitcraft SMP), because the matching system is very very literal and would not know they're the same tag. So we have to make a long list of tags that are allowed, and you'll choose them from a drop-down menu (or typing and then auto-completing), instead of just free-typing them into your sign up, to make sure everybody who wants the same ship is using the same tag. You can check out the rules and guidelines for nominating tags here.

So I know that I want to sign up with some tags for DSMP, some tags for SMPEarth, some tags for 3rd Life, some tags for Empires, a few crossovers, some Video Blogging RPF, and Philza Hardcore Season 4, so I want to make sure they're in the tag set, and available for sign-up! First thing I do is check the tag set to see if someone else has nominated them already. If they're already nominated then I don't have to do anything, but let's say it's early in the nomination process, and no one's gotten to my ships already, so I get to nominate them! Let's get into it.

First thing is to go to the tag set and click Nominate. This is the little button on the left-hand side of the top bar.

That is going to bring me to the nominations page, which looks like this.

You will notice that there are blue instructions from Ao3 at the top of the page.

Ignore the Ao3 instructions.

They are for a type of tag set that is not how exchanges use tag sets, and they are not going to work at all. Scrub them from your mind. Do not even look at anything in the blue. Move on and downwards.

Anyways, let's start entering nominations! For DSMP I want bedrock bros, I want preyduo but I don't care if it's romantic and platonic, I want beeduo romantic, I want to request a fic focused on technoblade so I'll need a tag for that, I want to offer fiancees, and I want to offer 5/5 syndicate. Let's look at how I enter that.

So first, looking at the fandoms— my fandom is canonized So first looking at Bedrock Bros— I want it to be platonic, so I use the & between the names. The autocomplete wants me to use the canonical tag, but I do NOT use that one, because a) it will end up showing up in the video blogging tag because Ao3's back end things that's the master fandom it belongs under, b) in the case of the tags that don't have "video blogging rpf" on the end, not only will it end up in video blogging, I won't be able to tell— does this tag actually belong in dsmp? origins? smpearth? So I put the actual SMP I want in parentheses after the characters, which is called "disambiguating" the tag. And I put the characters in alphabetical order, to keep things organized.

Then moving on to preyduo— I intend to sign up with this one and say "either romantic or platonic is good!" so I need to have both tags. There's the platonic one with the &, or the romantic one with /. And I alphabetized the characters and disambiguated the tag with (DSMP). Now note that again, I don't want the canonical tag, cause the canonical tag is "Alexis | Quackity/Technoblade", and nobody calls him Alexis! If it's set on the server, we want the name that he is actually called, and for consistency across the whole tag set, the rule is that you use the gamertag instead of the name.

For Beeduo again, I want this one to be romantic, so I used the /, I made sure to not use the canon tag and typed in the characters I wanted in alphabetical order, without tax names included (just gamertag), and I disambiguated it.

For the "just technoblade" one, that's a solo character tag, and that's nominated as Solo: Character (server), as you can see!

For fiances, I had to open up the wiki because Karl Jacobs doesn't use his gamertag, but we're being consistent! All gamertags, in alphabetical order, disambiguated! So I found his gamertag, and then alphabetized sapnap and quackity in the tag. Now I'm ready to offer to write it!

For the Syndicate, that's a lot of characters, but I can go up to 6 characters as long as the tag is less than 100 symbols overall, so I've got plenty of room! I put them in with gamertags, in alphabetical order, disambiguated at the end, and making sure to define if I want it romantic or platonic. I'm interested in writing platonic Syndicate, so I use the & between the names!

Let's move on to SMPEarth.

Again, this is a canon fandom, so I can just grab the canon fandom from the dropdown menu! And then looking at tags— you see, this is another reason why we don't want to use the canon tags for the relationships. If I used the canon bedrock bros here, the system would get angry at me and say "you already nominated that, tag noms need to be unique". So by typing in the disambiguation, it not only lets the creator know that you want Business Bay and the AE, not L'manberg and Arctic Commune, it also makes the tag unique so you can submit the same creators for different characters/fandoms.

And I did solo technoblade again for SMPEarth because I just love him, I'm going to offer him just in case anybody wants a gift about him.

On to 3rd Life!

Now this is one where I have to ignore the canon tag and ignore the fact that Joel Smallishbeans is called Joel part of the time— we're using gamertags. Just gamertags, alphabetized, with the disambiguation at the end. Both of the relationships I want are romantic, so I used the / between the names.

And that's one relationship that was mostly from double life, but I still put 3rd life there because that's the disambiguation we use for the whole fandom, it doesn't mean you are only requesting from series 1. All the series are under (3rd Life).

Empires!

Now this is one where I can't use the canon tag for the fandom, because the canon tag has two seasons wrangled together and those are totally different characters. So I have to write in my own fandom name, and when I'm disambiguating the characters, I include S1 to make it clear that I want rivendell and the codlands, not chromia and the wild west.

And again that's platonic or familial relationships with the &, romantic or sexual with the /, gamertags and not tax names, in alphabetical order. To look up the gamertags (because I couldn't remember Scott's), I actually selected the wrong, canon tag first, cause it had the usernames, and then typed it in the way we wanted it, and then deleted the canon tag. Didn't even have to go to the wiki for that one!

Now the fun that is Crossovers.

I had to enter Crossover Fandom by hand, Ao3 doesn't want to autocomplete it, and then the crossovers!

So in this one, you want to disambiguate right after the character to make it clear which version of the character you're talking about, and then you put "crossover fandom" at the end just to tidy everything up. First off— grian and tommy should meet.

And then there's lots of references to Technoblade in QSMP, what if q!phil and c!techno met?

And then I want a hermit tommy fic as one of the options I'm requesting, so that's how I write in [character] in [setting]. And it doesn't just have to be on MCYT! Why not put one of my favourite characters in one of my favourite books? Why not put multiple of my favourite characters in a different one of my favourite books? Crossovers are so fun.

Note that if you're talking about moving characters across fandoms or franchises, you have to name the entire franchise. It would be too specific to say "GoodTimesWIthScar (3rd Life) in Mos Eisley (Crossover Fandom), you have to say "In Star Wars" and name the whole setting. That keeps your creator from being pinned down too much, and it also helps things from getting so niche that someone wouldn't actually know what location you're talking about.

Now, Video Blogging RPF

We weren't able to have Video Blogging as a requested category in previous years of the exchange because there was no way to make a form that let you request the people you wanted without listing out literally every MCYT creator (and that would have broken the spreadsheets), but now with tag sets we can keep it straight between whether you want IRL fic/something non-mcyt or something set on the server, so it can be allowed! If you're not interested in RPF, just skip this section.

Immediately you'll notice something different about video blogging tags. Those do include the tax names, because in these fics or art we are talking about the creator, not just the gamer-tagged little block guy. So you can potentially use the canon tag! A lot of the canon tags though don't include the Video Blogging RPF disambiguation, so you'll want to type it out yourself.

And the disaster polycule compels me, I want someone to write me a sequel to the I'm Just Tom music video, so that's how I'd enter that tag, because well— married couple and dating couple so, y'know. For Fitpac I want vidcon fic, and that's technically RPF, so that's how I'd enter that tag. I want to offer something about Tubbo and Etho being friends while playing Vault Hunters, but not set IN vault hunters, I want them talking over discord, so that's another thing that's technically RPF, so in it goes.

And then we get to the one that's just hard to make a tag ruling on, GIGGS. Phasmophobia streams aren't MCYT any more, so I can't enter it as a hermitcraft fic, but I want to request something set in the Phasmophobia streams, cause I'm interested in the Phasmophobia streams cause they're MCYT creators! That isn't technically Phasmophobia as the fandom either— and this is a MCYT exchange, so I couldn't nominate Phasmophobia as a fandom— and they aren't really playing original characters I could nominate as themselves— BUT something set in the world of a different "canon" of streams and videos can fall under the expansive umbrella of RPF. So I know I want phasmophobia streams, so I nominate them under Video Blogging (using the tag with both tax names and gamertags because that's best practice for Video Blogging), and when I sign up i'm going to put in my signup that I'm only interested in phasmophobia streams, not IRL fic. It's not a perfect solve but it's the best way to make that particular case work.

And last one, Philza Hardcore S4!

Now this one doesn't have a canon tag, so I have to enter it in manually, and I have to manually enter that I'm interested in Solo Phil (disambiguated to make it clear which Phil I want), but there's actually a canon tag for blaze empress/rose that I can use! However, I couldn't use the canon tag for ender king/phil because the canon tag is formulated like a crossover tag with video blogging, and I am not interested in ender king going after the actual human man phil watson, so I have to enter that one in manually.

And that's it! That's all the tags I want to make sure are available for my signup! I can actually nominate way more than that, because I can go up to 10 fandoms, and up to 20 tags for each. But wait: Holidays.

When you do the signups, you can select which holidays you're okay with being part of my request, if any. So you can say I want to see christmas on hermitcraft, but no holidays on DSMP, please, and I only want made up minecraft holidays in Empires, for example. If I check the tag set I can see that Christmas and New Years are already in, but I have some idea for other holidays I want to opt into! So I scroll allll the way down to additional tags.

And then I can enter extra holidays, and they'll all go onto a big drop-down list for people to opt into! I personally celebrate Tibb's Eve and Halloween, and it would be fun to see my Cubitos in those holidays, and I know I can research Yule and write it, so I want to make sure it's available for my offers.

And now, all the relationships (or solo character tags) I want are in, and I made sure there are some extra holidays in the tag set, and I'm ready to submit!

Down at the very bottom of the page there's a Submit button.

And as soon as it's submitted it goes into a queue for the tag mods to look at! You can still edit it right until it gets accepted to the tag set, but as soon as it gets accepted (or rejected, if it's just wildly out to lunch), it locks and you can't use that slot any more.

There you have it, you're ready to nominate! Have fun, I'll see you in the tag set!

Re: fic ask game

So I actually had this fic idea in my head that definitely reminded me of your fanfics heavily (I wonder why). It's too detailed to write a snippet for, but core concept is - lots of SMPs had some kind of end of the world thing that would be perfect for an apocalypse AU, yeah? Well, what if a fanfic where you start out thinking it's just another fic based on the Big Moon. Then there's, like, mentions of some Boogeyman virus going around, okay, makes sense, related series. Then there's also a demonic invasion happening based on Empires S1, the part where you realize this might have been a crossover episode all along. And by the time you see Ponk with a gun you realize why it's set in a post-nuclear world.

There's probably more series you could drag into this to the point where it becomes comical, I just don't know which ones had an end of the world and which ones didn't

OH THIS IS SO FUN. it sort of reminds me of that one tumblr post about the fic concept of “all the apocalypses just sort of happened at once”. but then YEAH we bring like, all the smps we know with apocalypses in and have all of those things happen at once and write something from there it’d be fun. the vibes all collide at once.

big crossover after everything goes to shit is fun too like. this is the usual crossover fic but Evil because instead of it being a crossover making it better it makes it Worse (in a fun way).

…actually you know what this suddenly reminded me of? I had a philza hardcore lore crossover that floated around in my head at one point where the whole ender king apocalypse thing happened contemporaneously with like, s3 dsmp, so we can throw that in TOO and, yeah, this is a fun one, I like this.

1. every version of dream must lose three people: george, sam, and alyssa. he usually loses sapnap too, but this is touch-and-go.

alyssa is the first significant person he loses way before everything, and when she leaves the server, or dies, or disappears, it’s dream’s first hint that he needs to bring the server together. it’s what alyssa would want. it’s what’s right.

george is next — and it’s always accidental, never fully planned, because no matter what schemes dream makes, george always surprises him in every timeline by changing this. for c!dream, it’s the dethronement arc: for m!dream, m!george was killed by m!eret right around the time m!dream discovered the other timelines. for other timelines, it’s death, it’s betrayal, it’s falling into a deep slumber, becoming a god … either way, dream has to lose george. it pushes him into the final arc.

the final person every dream must lose is sam. brave sam, strong sam, sam who loves and cares about him. the difficult part is that this method of “losing sam” never changes. it always starts with the prison. it always ends with the breakout. their relationship changes across the timelines, and m!sam is the only person that m!dream cannot speak about. he has an unhealthy fascination with c!sam in our canon server, one he can’t quite let go of.

tommy also has to lose three people: very specifically, three mentors/heroes. it varies across worlds. it’s always wilbur, but the other two range between dream, schlatt, techno, philza, and some server members that change from timeline to timeline — captainsparklez, deo, etc. one time the mentor he lost was george. this fucked tommy and dream up, and, in that universe, tommy killed dream to avenge george’s accidental death.

it’s varied, but three things remain for any tommy.

he must lose three mentors across three different key moments in his life.

he must always lose one of them in an accident of his own making.

wilbur is always the first one he loses, and the one that can never come back.

other server members have their own canon events / losses too!! for sam, it’s always dream. for bad, it’s always skeppy.

2. to make up for the long ass answer above, this one is short !! each server is different. some are vanilla minecraft, some origins, some have admin dream, some are superpowered, some hardcore, some peaceful. it all depends. the main universes i focus on — m!dream’s universe, and our canon one with c!diskduo — don’t have any superpowers, other than the fact m!dream has access to the multiverse through a glitch in the revive book.

c!wilbur has the power of knowledge. of foresight. the void showed him everything: it’s why he’s never allowed to come back to life. but for some reason, c!dream brought him back. and he intends to find out why — and make m!dream’s life a living hell in the process.

Who are ur fav mcyt channels that AREN'T hermits? (Trying to find more people to watch um)

i typed out a whole response to this and then i got a notification and the post i typed out got ate hell on earth . Anyway i will be honest i haven’t watched much hermitcraft in awhile let alone general mcyt but i can def give you a couple recs !! and others are welcome to add their own in replies or wtvr if you want

technoblade - unfortunately no longer with us but still awesome videos . he’s very funny and very good at minecraft pvp and he’s one of my favorite guys overall . potato war is a great starting point if you’re not familiar with him

philza - definitely less pg than the hermits, and mostly streams rather than youtube vids, but for hermit-esque megaprojects his hardcore series is super cool (has edited videos for the whole thing too) . season 4 especially has some super cool projects, made even more so by the fact that he’s playing solo in hardcore mode the entire time . he also had a world record hardcore world that lasted 5 years before being killed by a baby zombie .there is a minecraft splash text that references this

empires smp - not an individual creator but a modded, lore-based smp currently on its second season with some really neat builds on it . had a fun crossover event with hermitcraft in february(?) 2023 . personally i haven’t watched it because of the agonies (time) but ive been meaning to for ages and a lot of people i know like it a lot . has 12 members including three hermits (pearlescentmoon falsesymmetry and geminitay) and all of them are pretty solid recs - personally out of the non-hermits i’m a very casual enjoyer of jimmy solidarity joel smallishbeans and oli theorionsound .

that’s pretty much all i’ve got for specific recs - watching mcc (minecraft championship) can be a good way to find new people to watch too ! if anyone has any other recs/things to add that i’ve missed feel free to add them lmao

I have list: ZloyXP - Russian Minecraft CC, current series is Minecraft Create. Much trains with this one, however his character skin is a zombie. May contain mild swearing.

Goodtimeswithscar - Disabled American CC, currently a Hermitcraft member. Much trains with this one as well, and some very funny shenanigans. Literally built Disneyland in Minecraft. Might accidentally curse once in a while

LDShadowlady - American CC, current one I think is Minecraft SOS but I think that also ended a few days ago. In her earlier Empires Season 1 episodes she was a sea goddess/mermaid lady.

Tangotek: American CC, currently a Hermitcraft member. Literally built a game within a game called Decked Out, without any mods. Takes place in a huge cathedral-style build and is honestly a work of art. Wholesome red stone vibes, minimal cursing.

Grian: British CC, currently a Hermitcraft member. Known for his very good builds and multiple life series videos, the prankster of Hermitcraft. No cursing, some adult innuendos.

Trixyblox: Trixy did a huge project last year where he basically made a survival world island, created custom structures, and put lore into it. Same project is also available as world download somewhere

Sandiction: A new hardcore CC with a sporadic upload schedule but a satisfying editing experience and projects like (I trapped every mob in Minecraft Hardcore) and (I trapped the ender dragon in Minecraft Hardcore). No swearing, very calm dude even if he’s on half a heart fighting the warden.

Smajor: Gay Scottish CC with lots of colours and flamboyant builds. Was an elf during Empire season one, creator of MCC. May contain mild swearing.

Philza: British CC, known for surviving five IRL years in Hardcore. Might have seen him on the news once or twice. I would stay away from any of his SMP videos as most of them are, well, traitor oriented. Moderate swearing from this one.

Series:

> Empires Season one (the last few episodes have a much more angstier theme)

> Hermitcraft (Not really a storytelling smp, but does have some of the best builders and red stoners from the game)

> Empires Season two (some themes of betrayal, however does crossover with Hermitcraft at one point)

> Origins SMP (series is unfinished and probably abandoned however)

> Rats SMP (does a crossover with another SMP too. Creators are basically cosplaying as rats)

> MCC. Instead of an actual series, this is a monthly Minecraft tournament where people play to basically win a plastic coin. You can get updates from @mcc-updates however I would choose carefully on which CC you decide to watch, as some people play for fun and some people play to let anger out.

Things that I would stay away from (not because they’re all bad, but because I have a sneaking suspicion your kids won’t like ‘em. Also because some of them are bad):

> any life series (third life, last life, etc). Contains heavy themes of backstabbing and traitors.

> the Dream SMP and all of its creators except for Philza. (That place is literally shitshow atm)

> The QSMP (a great idea, but several creators apart of it are under fire currently for a myriad of things)

> Lifesteal SMP (again, traitors and betrayals)

If you're really going for the storytelling route, Empires Seasons 1 and 2 would be my go-to. If you're looking more for a bit of both that and some good builds, Origins and Rats SMP. Obv, Hermitcraft for the mostly purely building route. MCC is really just something that might get your kids hyped up for every once in a while if their CCs are in the event that month.

Minecraft YT for kids

Hi! Which minecraft YouTubers (or even better, specific videos or series) do you recommend for young kids?

My children are 4 and 8. They really want to watch YT videos about minecraft, but I don't want them roaming free on YT. So we approve videos for their YT kids account on the tablet instead.

Both my kids like fantasy and mninecraft. We really enjoyed a minecraft "choose your own adventure" on Netflix where they could click around to decide bits of the story. (But it's not available in our region anymore).

They both enjoy silly and cartoony stuff.

The oldest likes train tracks, roller coasters and intricate and creative building. He has a strong sense of justice and a very low tolerance for pranks, bullying and plots with traitors, characters deceiving their friends etc. He is also easily scared of monsters that are more intense than regular minecraft.

The youngest one is more chaotic. They love a variety from cats, rainbows, unicorns and mermaids - to everything that involves farts and/or explosions.

So I guess I am looking for:

Creative minecraft videos where they build something and/or tear it down. How to videos of medium/advance things appreciated.

Storytelling in minecraft as if watching a movie.

PEGI3 or PEGI7 ish stuff.

No Roblox.

Cartoony violence and mob deaths are okay. No blood, dismembering, disembowling etc.

I am okay with swearing like "Shit I fell down," "What the fuck is that?!", "Where the heck are you?" and stuff like that. Not okay with slurs, bullying and name calling.

Any suggestions?

Introduction to Nominating using a Tag Set

A tag set is a list of allowed tags that you can use when nominating for an exchange, and sign ups can use only those tags. Exchanges use tag sets for many reasons, but this exchange is using one both to help encourage matching, and to deal with the problem of non-canon tags (because if you don’t have a tag set you can only request canon tags). Last exchange we had several people unable to actually request the relationship they wanted because it was non-canon, and hopefully this will help fix that! We will be soliciting nominations to help fill out the tag set for the exchange, which is where you and this post comes in. 

Obviously you want to make sure the tags that you want to offer and request are in the tag set. How do you do that?

First thing is you go to the tag set on the archive, and click on the “Nominate” button in the top right-hand corner.

I want to offer Emduo and the Syndicate, so I put in their relationships (using the & for platonic). I also want to make sure I’m open to writing Emduo seperately, cause they’re my guys, so I did a solo nomination for each character. (I know that we’re using the “relationship” tab, but that is just a limitation of the matching system. Putting Solo before the character means that I want to see them on an individual adventure.) I’m also planning on offering romantic tntduo, so I entered them with the / to indicate that I’m open to the ship. (Not saying that I’m good at writing the ship, but for the exchange, I’ll try!)

As soon as you start typing, the archive starts offering you autocomplete options— don’t take them! The autocomplete options don’t make a distinction between servers, and this tag set does. In order to make it clear that I want both SMPEarth Technoblade and Dream SMP Technoblade, I have to type the tag out manually. 

Several of the names in the auto-complete have pips in them, so that they look something like Phil Watson | Philza. Because this is a character-focused exchange, just use the gamertag, leave the tax-filing name off of the tag. Names are entered in alphabetical order within the ship— enter tags in any order you want.

For SMPEarth I just want to nominate Emduo again, but specifically in the SMPEarth setting. I use the same relationship tag format as I did for DSMP, but change the server— I want both the anarchists AND the co-emperors.

For empires, I start with Nature Wives. I’m open to seeing them as either romantic or more of besties, so I nominated both the romantic and the platonic relationship. I love Shubble, so I did a solo character nomination for Shubble too. I also loved the Hermit crossover, and I have an idea for a skulk!cub prompt, so I nominated a crossover ship. Even though Cubfan is a character from another server, because I want this story to be set in the Evermoor (on the Empires server), I nominated the relationship tag with the Empires SMP server category. 

So far I’ve been nominating all things that have a canon fandom tag, but I want to nominate for one fandom that doesn’t have a tag yet. Let’s get into it.

There’s no drop-down autocomplete with this one, so I manually entered Philza Hardcore. I nominated the romantic relationship between the Blaze Empress and Rose, because, y’know, they should kiss, and the platonic relationship between Blaze Empress and Ender, because they should have epic battles. I nominated the Solo relationship for Philza’s Chat because my friend is planning on doing a request for a lost crow in the world, and I want to second their tag, and I nominated MissTrixtin/Philza because Parentza.  There’s still lots of space for other tags if I decide to add more, but that’s all I want to nominate for now. So I scroll all the way down the page, and click Submit in the lower right corner.

But wait, what was that about seconding the tag? 

To encourage matching, tags won’t make it officially into the tag set until they’ve been nominated twice. While you can probably be sure that super-popular tags like Philza & Technoblade & TommyInnit & Wilbur Soot (Dream SMP) are going to be added just as a matter of course, it’s a good idea to check into the Tag Nominations channel in the discord before you submit, and collaborate with other people who are nominating in your fandom. Double-checking before you submit can help make sure that you’re not using up one of your slots on a tag that two people are already planning to submit (and always check the tag set before you submit to see if the tag you want is already there), and you can help out other people by seconding tags that you might not have thought of off the top of your head. 

A brief FAQ. Do I have to nominate every tag I plan to offer? You do not! Maybe by the time you open the tag set, every tag you planned to offer is already there. In that case, you’re golden! You can know that the tags are there ready for when you need them when you go to fill out your sign-up, and you can go back to planning your prompts.

I nominated my tags several hours ago, but I don’t see them in the tag set? Tags have to be manually approved by the mods. Potentially the mods are busy, (or asleep), or potentially they haven’t been seconded yet. If you check with the mods and your tags are just waiting for a second, it might be time to go to the Tag Nomination channel and see if you can recruit someone to second your tag. 

I nominated yesterday, but I changed my mind and want to delete one? The good news is that nominations can be modified after you click submit— to an extent. The bad news is that once a tag has been approved by a mod, it’s locked in and can’t be taken back. You have a window there before the mods get to the tag (or before it’s seconded), where you can delete, but after that you’re out of luck.

I nominated yesterday, but I changed my mind and want to add one? As long as you still have relationship lines open and the tag set is open, you can keep adding tags! They will show up in the mods inbox right away. 

My friend really wants a ship I hate in the tag set. If I nominate it to help them, will I have to draw it? Tag nomination is seperate from your sign ups. Theoretically, you could nominate entirely different tags than you end up using with your sign-up. We’d like to ask that you only nominate tags you have a decent plan of offering or requesting, as this is a technique to encourage successful matches, but there’s no one going through the tag set to make sure that we only see nominations that people also offer. In fact, we don’t even see who submitted tags, just that they’re in the inbox. So really it comes down to how much you love your friend, and how much you hate the ship.

ooh, world building for minecraft is so fun. Your hubs sound interesting! It really allows for many worlds to exist separately from each other but also have travel between them. Is this also everybody's single player worlds as well? Is buying your own world like buying a house lol

You can aquire your own world but you have to

A) at least have admin training

B) be aware that if you aren’t a professional builder/redstoner/terraformer/etc. chances are you will get asigned a very small world.

People like Mumbo that is a professional redstoner, has the endorsement of Scicraft and is a Hermit (yeah Hermits are kinda important because is my au and I can do that) has two worlds under his name he uses for testing redstone.

One got terraformed so it has a flat surface (his redstone testing world) and another is just a regular world (lets imagine all his videos of hidden vaults within vaults within vaults take place in the same world)

Fun fact! Creative mode is also artifical same as respawning mechanics, and it needs technology to be possible.

Flying in creative mode? Zero gravity shoes that only work in a designated area (to prevent it from being too op)

Infinite resources? I like the joke that creative mode gets its infinite resources from Scicraft because their farms are insane and I just ran with it here.

No mobs? SciCraft again with their amazing mob switch I don’t understand

And also regarding hardcore worlds, well the fact respawning has to be implemented can explain why you can have hardcore worlds. Why would someone request a world and never install the technology to respawn if it is avaible? Well... that depends on each player and what headcanons you might have

disclaimer though that i am not a long-time fan of minecraft, so aside from dream smp, hermitcraft and the newer smps, i know very little about the older ones so i'm apologizing in advance if I get things wrong.

* Phil meets Techno (who grew up in Hypixel) when they got teamed in Minecraft Monday. They became great friends! Wahoo! :D

* They went to SMP Earth where they made the Antarctic Empire. This is where they also met Wilbur and Tommy.

* Boom, found family and they lived in Phil's hardcore world for a while

* When Wilbur died, Fundy was wracked with a lot of conflicting emotions that he went to Dry Waters and imagined Cogchamp smp as a way to cope

* When Ghostbur really died, the train stopped and he ended up in Origin smp. (My personal hc is that Osmp is his "afterlife" because there's too much angst for him already and I want him to be happy man :'D)

* Tubbo is Captain Sparklez' son and due to... some unfortunate circumstances, his dad hid him in box in which he got found by the sbi.

* Captain ran to his lab in Voltz Wars to continue his works. How to explain the Ranboo that blew up his lab, I have no idea yet. (Maybe it's an alternate version of Ranboo, who knows)

* Idots smp is a server focused more on entertainment, and that's where Skeppy and Bad came from.

* Schlatt, Wilbur and Connor all came from SMPlive.

* When they all parted ways, Wilbur found Tommy (somewhere idk yet) and the two became inseparable since then.

I was adding onto the DSMP Actor AU post, but it turned into Wilbur musician AU, haha rip me, and I only know SBI anyways so here’s a separate post. (It goes back to actor AU at the end.) It’s hypothetically still in the same universe though, and obviously inspired by it. If anything’s phrased weirdly, it’s cuz this was originally an addition to that. 

tbh I kinda adhered to their IRL careers too much compared to the OP but whatever it’s fine.

Wilbur is an indie artist really on the come up

Your City Gave Me Asthma was pretty good for a first release, popular with both new fans and fans of his acting.

He had starred in a short mystery/thriller-ish series that started off disguised as a normal sitcom: Chilly in Lincolnshire {Editor Wilbur ARG}

It had a prominent release because of Jack Massey’s involvement and previous fame, but production was abruptly scrapped before it tied everything up with a bow on top, so to speak. It’s still unclear if this was actually planned in order to tell the story the way they way wanted. 

Even before that, critics had mixed reviews, either applauding the storytelling and acting or calling it “irrationally confusing, an amateurish attempt to box unconventional storytelling into a conventional medium.”

Also SootHouse was a sitcom that achieved a cult following during the two seasons it ran before cancellation. Either you’re a fan or you’re never heard of it, and people constantly forget Wilbur was in it. 

(He was a few other old shows on his resume too. Wilbur always focuses on the newest project, so everyone always forgets about what he was in before.) 

Maybe I Was Boring EP was initially just bonus tracks on his website, but his fans liked it so much he gave it a wider release

In between, he had a few comedy songs go viral on youtube. Everybody was so confused when they realized it was the same Wilbur as musician/actor Wilbur. He laughed about it in an interview, saying “How many Wilburs do you know?” 

That’s when it came out that “Wilbur Soot” was actually a stage name. (”Ha, fair, only one.” “Make that zero-- my name’s not really Wilbur.”)

He kinda disappeared after that?? Didn’t do anything, really inactive on social media. It was semi-confirmed that he was both working on his mental health and prepping some stuff (music, auditions).

But anyways he just released a series of singles, combined into Digital Love {E-girl trilogy}-- he’s transformed his image yet again, but this time he does take ownership of all his past ventures.

The release of Digital Love bridges the end of SMP Earth and the beginning Dream SMP. 

But before that there was MCC and the other stuff.

They are shows where celebrities team up do stuff-- you know the type 

but Minecraft Monday is still inexplicably Minecraft Monday. Some Youtuber just managed to get all these up and coming celebrities to play a Minecraft tournament. 

And that’s where the Sleepy Bois (minus Tommy) met IRL so that’s where they meet here. 

SMP Earth, like Minecraft Manhunts, is also a former show they were on. I’m going to call it World Domination. Don’t @ me; I know that’s trash lol. 

They and the Dream Team met up because of their shared fanbases and were even talking a crossover, but it didn’t really work that well for the stories so they scrapped it

They make a non-canon cross over episode anyways {no IRL equivalent, I think}

Everybody loves the cons. Everytime there’s a con, five friendships are made and eight ideas are created. 

Techno backstory time

He’s done a lot of long running, though not exactly popular, serials and sitcoms: Blitz, Survival Games, and Sky Wars. 

Winstreak: 1000 {Bed Wars 1000 winstreak} was so popular they made a second season, but it never got as big as the first. He worked nearly exclusively with Hypixel Studios. 

He was doing lots of random content for their new Sky World universe {Skyblock} -- the small studio was big on experimentation -- , when a fictional documentary, The Great Potato War, went proper viral. 

They made two sequels WHILE he was doing those celebrity team challenge shows and then World Domination, and they were actually good sequels.

Got a reputation for being shallow and a sell-out, but he makes a joke of it so much he gets away with it and constantly self-promos.

Also a kinda scary to work with for the first time because of how single-minded he can get, but once you realize how socially awkward he is it’s okay.  

Now that’s he’s in a lot of stuff with worldbuilding, he practically has the wikis memorized. 

Tommy mainly did limited series and movies before World Domination, where he met the SBI.

He’d had been a fan of Wilbur for a while, and was super star-struck at first, but got over it really quickly in his Tommy style

He still is a total fanboy at concerts and whenever a new music video drops. “I’m friends with the guy! I know him, Wilbur Soot!” “Tommy, you’re famous too.” “Yeah, cuz I’m practically in the video!” “No--” 

Wilbur takes Tommy to one of his concerts and he’s so hyped the entire time, especially to go behind the scenes and on the stage. 

Sometimes he gets stressed about the pressure of being a child star, but Techno, Philza, and Wilbur promise to stand by him and they make him feel protected 

One time Wilbur’s drunk and almost hands Tommy a drink before swearing and going, “You’re a bloody child! You can’t have that! God, what would Philza think?” Tommy’s not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed. 

Philza laughs at the story and actually lets Tommy try a little in a more controlled, responsible situation. Tommy texts his mum first, and then hates the drink anyways. (”This is rubbish! I am a man, but I’m not drinking this!” Techno: “Alcohol is disappointing. I drink orphan’s tears instead.” “Techno WHAT--”)

Philza had been the star of a zombie apocalypse show: Golden Core 

He did canonically die to a child zombie in the movie version. Yes, they made a movie version of the TV show, because the Golden Core franchise actually has had many other shows {other hardcore series}. 

Everybody tries to get the child zombie props near him because of that (they’re puppets)

He’s done a lot of other things, like in the original actor AU post, but none of them came close in popularity. 

He gives the rest of the SBI the knowledge he’s gained from being in the biz for so long. 

There’s also a running joke about SBI meaning “Spy Boys Incorporated” and them starring in a comedy spy movie

The fans would very much actually like this to happen. There’s so many fanons for it (maybe I’ll write one....) 

Back to the DSMP. Maybe I’ll call it Dreamland or smth. 

Wilbur constantly asks Tommy if he’s okay after any difficult scenes

Especially when they were hanging out together a lot in the exile arc.

All the brother scenes were cut because Wilbur kept breaking down and crying in them.

Sometimes people actually ask Techno and Tommy if they’re actually brothers. Tommy tries to go along with it half the time on the basis of “it’s be funny,” so there’s a subset of casual fans that genuinely don’t know. 

After Alivebur was killed off, Wilbur was going to leave the show to concentrate on his music

But he missed the SMP and hanging so much that he just showed up on set one day saying “I’m a ghost now,” and everyone just rolled with it

Alivebur was so popular that, seeing that Wilbur was willing, they decided to bring him back for Season 3. He’s been avoiding doing heavy scenes, but he still seems really invested and like he wants to come back to the show.

Wilbur talks with Techno about writing and lore a lot

Wilbur attempted to get a D&D group going in the cast, but the show was already close enough, with the amount of improvisation they can get by with

Tommy’s Pigstep cover happened, but the background was Philza clapping barely in time with just Wilbur on bass instead (and of course Techno’s “BAHP”s)

It was a charity stream. They had put on their costumes (clothes only) for a previous goal. 

This one was simply called “We rap.”

Some people were almost disappointed that Tommy was the only one actually rapping, but he was so funny it made up for it.

In regards to the post I made about how Sleepy Bois Inc is the other side of the coin that is Achievement Hunter, I want all you AH/DSMP fans to consider a crossover with these two groups

I want Philza “hardcore survivalist” Minecraft and Techno “best PVPer” Blade to have to play/try to complete Minecraft with “how do I get wood” AH.

I want Philza to build a portal fifteen minutes into the video and turn around and realize that they’re still holding wooden swords. They don’t know how the piglin trading works because they never play anything later than like 1.12. They’ve spent the past twenty minutes talking about Randy Newman and bursting into song. Alfredo got lost about ten minutes ago. Someone find him.

I'll be making this into a long fic, but for now I chose to keep it short. Hermitcraft x Dream SMP crossover

Grian sat down at the oak wood table, brow furrowed. Another day, another failed attempt to reconnect to Hermitcraft. The strange glitch that had caused the border to fall in the first place must have been repaired, for the world border was back up and running. His communicator didn’t work outside of his home server, and Phil’s crows (who insisted on following the man everywhere, and who Phil had put up to the task of flying between the severs, trying to gather intel on the border glitch and if people were trying to find him) haven’t delivered any news. 

    The builder glanced out the window as the sun set over the horizon. Past that was Hermitcraft. His home. What was Mumbo doing? Scar? Iskall? Xisuma? How was the war progressing without him? Did anyone notice his absence? No, Grian, don’t get sad. Happy thoughts only...Happy thoughts. 

    “Grain!” 

    Torn away from his thoughts, Grian looked up to see Philza, his dark grey wings fluffed up in distress. “Wil’s sent a letter.” The avian said, holding up a piece of paper. 

    “Well, that’s good!” Phil had been under extreme stress these past couple of days since Wilbur hadn’t sent a letter in weeks and the past few he had sent were...concerning, to say the least. “What’s it say?” 

    Another letter should have been a relief, but from the look on Phil’s face, Grian concluded that this letter was everything except relief.

    “It’s just a date, time, and coordinates. November 16th, noon, with a set of coords in L’Manberg…” Phil’s voice trailed off as his dark emerald eyes scanned the page, over and over, as if he were looking for more writing than just a simple date. 

    “That’s tomorrow, innit?” Grian questioned, trying to distract the man from his distress. That’s how Grian ignored his. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. “I mean, you’ll be able to see your sons, check up on Wil?” 

    “Something doesn’t feel right about this, Grain.” Even after all this time together, Phil still called him Grain. Grian stifled a laugh, as it wasn’t the appropriate time to giggle. “His last few letters concerned me. He mentioned something in his last one about 11 and a half stacks of TNT.” Phil looked Grian dead in the eye and whispered, “Grain, I think Wilbur is going to blow L’Manberg!” 

    “But why?” Grian attempted to rationalize with the distraught Phil, who was now pacing across the room making stressed-out bird noises. “He won the election, shouldn’t he be content with that?” This type of stuff never happened on Hermitcraft. There were never serious talks of blowing up anyone’s builds, much less an entire country! The only time TNT is used is in pranks, and they always helped clean up after. 

    “You clearly don’t know Wilbur...He’s a force of chaos, I’ll tell you that. A creative little shit who always comes up with new ways to get what he wants. If he wants L’Manberg gone, then he’ll go to crazy lengths to achieve that goal.”

    Silence fell. 

    “We need to get to L’Manberg. Now. It’s about a day’s flight from here, and we need to leave now if we want to get there as fast as fucking possible.” Phil tucked the letter into the pocket of his dark green kimono and flexed his wings. Unlike Grian, who used the sleek and slim elytra to fly about, Philza had a pair of actual feathery wings. Upon arrival, Phil explained that he was a bird hybrid, also known as an avian. He had feathers on the sides of his face and neck with elfish ears. Back on Hermitcraft, every member of the server was human. 

Grian and Phil started out on their journey north, towards the world border of Dream SMP. The sun had risen, and the world border was in sight. Phil stated that Dream, the apparent Admin of the server, had agreed to let up the border for a few seconds to let Phil and Grian inside. Phil took a rest on a tree, breathing heavily after hours of non-stop flight.  

“You alright, Big P?” If Phil could nickname him Grain, Grian would nickname him as well. A smile twinged across Phil’s face. 

“Ahh...You sound so much like my youngest, Tommy. He says that to people too. You remind me of him so much. Right down to your red shirt and the aura of pure, unbridled chaos you emit.” 

Both men laughed. Grian really enjoyed Phil’s laugh, and despite how giggly and giddy the avian usually was, it had been a few days since he had last heard him laugh. Wilbur’s lack of letters had really spooked him. 

“Will you stay?” 

“Hmm?” 

“In L’Manberg. I mean, it’s closer to your sons.” 

Phil shrugged and drank a potion of strength, and stood. 

“I might, depending on what happens. If my theory is correct, and Wilbur is going to blow the place up, then I’ll probably stay. Just to help him out and help clean up y’know? Maybe I’ll be able to convince him to come home. Before you got here, I was...really lonely.” 

“Well, you won’t be lonely anymore! Since I can’t return home yet, I’ll be your friend so you don’t have to be lonely!” 

“Thanks, Grain.” 

“You’re welcome, Big P!” 

The two rose and started to fly towards the world border. Maybe Grian could make a new home on Dream SMP. The builder already started making plans for an epic build, having a vague idea in his head. However, he would have to inspect the landscapes available to see what his block palette would be and what style his build would be. Grian thought of his mansion back home and wanted to build something similar to remember it. 

“Oi! Grain! You there mate?” 

Grian shook his head as he was, again, dragged from his daydreams by Phil. They had arrived at the world border. “I’ve sent word to Dream, he should be letting us in soon.” 

“Alrighty! What kind of base do you want to build if you stay?”

    Phil just shrugged. “Eh. Don’t know just yet. Don’t want to start anything too ambitious, like a Hardcore project.” 

Grian kept forgetting that this man held the world record for the longest Hardcore run. Phil was only 5”4 and didn’t look that intimidating. He looked loving and fatherly, and Grian considered Phil to be like a father to him. But the man was a dedicated Hardcore player, and could easily take Grian down in a fight. It scared him, sometimes, about how little he actually knew about Phil. 

“Alright, mate, let’s go.” The blue striped border had been removed by the mysterious admin, and the two flew into Dream SMP. Grian felt a buzz from his communicator and pulled it from his pocket.

Unlike in Hermitcraft, when a member joins the server (especially a new member), the entire chat would be flooded with ‘hello!’ messages. However, on the Dream SMP, there were one or two directed at Phil. How peculiar. Phil went silent as they flew over the woods and forest. In the distance, Grian could see what appeared to be a city. That must be L’Manberg. It wasn’t as big or as grand as some builds on Hermitcraft, heck his own base would have taken up over half of the area if he lived there. On a tall pole lay what Grian assumed was the flag of L’Manberg, inky black, with a fiery red arch and X. Interesting design. Phil didn’t go into the city, however, he flew towards the coordinates that Wilbur had written in his letter, his brow furrowed. Fireworks crackled and popped throughout L’Manberg. 

Grian landed with Phil, in front of a small tunnel that bore deep into a hill that was just outside the country. 

“It’s now or never. Grain, stay behind me.” Phil tucked the letter away and led Grian through the tunnel, and into a compact stone room. Carved into the wall were words. No, not just words. Lyrics. 

I heard there was a special place, 

where men could go and emancipate. 

From the brutality and tyranny of their rulers.

Those lyrics were carved all over the stone walls, and in the middle, was a stone button. In front of that button, was Philza’s eldest son, Wilbur. 

Grian had never actually seen Wilbur before, only in an old picture of when Phil, Wilbur, and Phil’s other two sons, Tommy and Technoblade, won MCC 4. In that picture, Wilbur wore a cute yellow sweater with a brown beanie, with a shimmering smile on his face. 

The man that stood before them now was not that person. It couldn’t be. Wilbur stood, hunched over a stone button, whispering to himself. He donned a brown trenchcoat and ditched the beanie. 

“What are you doing?” Phil asked.

Wilbur turned to face them. His eyes had no emotion in them, his smile no longer shimmered. Standing before them was an insane man. 

“I will admit,” Wilbur said. His voice sent a chill down Grian’s spine, “Do you know what this is? What this button is?” Phil’s speculations appeared to be true. Wilbur was trying to destroy L’Manberg. 

“Uh huh. I do.” How, how could Phil be so calm? 

“Have you heard the song? The song on the walls?” Wilbur’s fingers gently ran over the words ‘MY L’MANBERG’. His eye twitched, “I was just making a big point you know? About how there was a special place, it was a special place. But that's not there anymore.” Wil’s voice lowered to a hush. 

“It is there, Wil, it's out there.” 

“PHIL I’M ALWAYS SO CLOSE TO PRESSING THIS BUTTON! I’VE BEEN HERE LIKE SEVEN OR EIGHT TIMES--” Voices from above cut Wilbur off. Grian could hear footsteps above them. Wilbur turned his eyes to the stone ceiling and lowered his voice. “Oh they're going to come…I need to block this off.” Wilbur hastily piled blackstone bricks in the doorway, which not only sealed whoever “they” were out, but also sealed Grian, Phil, and Wilbur in.

“Oh Phil...I’ve been here so many times.” 

Numerous fireworks exploded outside. 

<Tubbo_ went off with a bang due to a firework fired from [Rocket Launcher] by Technoblade> 

“Oh they’re fighting, they’re fighting…” WIlbur whispered, sounding tired. 

“And you just want to...to blow it all up? You fought so hard for this land, Wilbur, and you just want to...destroy it all?” Phil tried to reason.

“I don’t even know if the button works anymore, Phil, I could press it, and it might--”

“Do you want to risk it? There is a lot of TNT potentially connected to that button.” 

Wilbur seemed to hear him. His breathing got heavier as he returned to that hunched over position over the stone button. What was this place? Nothing serious ever happened on Hermitcraft. There were no seriously high stakes, there were no serious threats, no serious danger. It was all in good fun. 

“There...there was a saying, Phil...by, uh, by a traitor. Once part of L’Manberg, don’t know if you ever heard of Eret, but he had a saying.” 

Wilbur looked up at Phil. Grian could see the familiar resemblance between the two, they shared emerald green eyes. 

“It was never meant to be.” Wilbur whispered that phrase, and pressed the stone button.

HECK YEA So I am a philza minecraft main at heart so when Grian, Scar, and Joel started the 100 hours series I was so ecstatic. Hardcore Crossover I'm thinking in the process of building the portal between the end and flowerfall, Phil falls through the chaotic unstable magic and ends up in Grian's hardcore world. (By unstable magic I mean, Phil is trying to magically conjure an end portal without the use of an end portal in a strong hold)

It's basically a fic with a bunch of hijinks and Phil having an anuerism

Grian, Joel, and Scar are surprised to meet someone new and try to size him up real quickly. By size him up, I mean they prank him

How do they prank him? WELL, I don't know yet this is a very new idea ehehehehe
