“With my work, I like to operate within a universal language of color, geometry, light and shadow. These are things that all of us deal with on a daily basis and immediately allow us into the work.”

BOBSTROLOGY 2: THE PACIFIC BOOGALOO
Another completely serious presentation by @pegasusdrawnchariots and oatflatwhite
written version under the cut!
♈️ Edward “Hillbilly” Jones – 1 April 1917 ♈️ Elmo “Gunny” Haney – ?? April 1898 * ♉️ Clifford "Steve" Evanson – 25 April 1926 ♊️ Bill Leyden – 27 May 1926 ♊️ Robert Oswalt – 13 June 1923 ♊️ J. P. Morgan – 20 June 1919 * ♋️ Lewis “Chesty” Puller – 26 June 1898 ♌️ Chuck Tatum – 23 July 1926 * ♌️ Jay De L’Eau – 29 July 1923 ♌️ R. V. "Burgie" Burgin – 13 August 1922 ♌️ Manny Rodriguez – 17 August 1922 ♍️ Andrew “Ack Ack” Haldane – 22 August 1917 ♍️ Sidney Phillips – 2 September 1924 ♎️ Vera Keller – 13 October 1923 ♎️ Lew “Chuckler” Juergens – 22 October 1918 ♏️ John Basilone – 4 November 1916 ♏️ Eugene Sledge – 4 November 1923 ♏️ Wilbur “Runner” Conley – 6 November 1921 ♐️ Robert Leckie – 18 December 1920 ♑️ Bill “Hoosier” Smith – 14 January 1922 ♒️ Merriel “Snafu” Shelton – 21 January 1922 ♒️ Hugh Corrigan – 19 February 1920 ♓️ Lena Riggi Basilone – 7 March 1913
2 Aries 1 Taurus 3 Gemini 🥈 1 Cancer 4 Leo 🥇 2 Virgo 2 Libra 3 Scorpio 🥈 1 Sagittarius 1 Capricorn 2 Aquarius 1 Pisces
7 🔥 4 🪨 7 💨 5 💧
6 cardinal 10 fixed 7 mutable
14 masculine 9 feminine
* Gunny Haney's day of birth is not known; we went with Aries on vibes * J. P. Morgan's birthday was taken from The Pacific wiki but we couldn't verify it elsewhere (or whether he was actually a real dude?) * Chuck Tatum is a cusp and we assigned him Leo based on his city of birth if he had been born at noon; also on vibes
** Other characters in The Pacific are based on people from Leckie and Sledge's memoirs, but their names are either changed or they are only referred to by surname and quite unidentifiable, based on my (oatflatwhite's) original search (which was not exhaustive!). Ronnie Gibson and Stella Karamanlis, for example, seem to be based off of real people Leckie encountered during the war, but were not their actual names. Others, like minor officers in both K and H companies, and the doctors Leckie sees, I just couldn't track down. We could locate the birthdays of Sledge's family (brother and parents) but since we couldn't do the same for Leckie and Basilone, we left them off this list. They're two more Scorpios and another Virgo, by the way.
*** And if you've read this far, @pegasusdrawnchariots assigned Stella Leo based on vibes :-)

Pacific fanfiction stats
On September 18, 2020, more than 3-1/2 years ago, I put up a post that to this day continues to pop up periodically. I've been meaning to go back and check to see what's changed since then, and I've finally gotten around to it. The gist was this:
Pacific fans, if you’ve ever felt like your favorite pairing is a rarepair, unless your fave is Sledgefu, there’s a reason it feels that way.
So here's the update, with all new stats (the original 9/18/20 stats in strikethrough):
As of 6/2/24 9/18/20, there are 1,482 1,120 stories on AO3 tagged The Pacific. Sledgefu is still far and away the most common pairing, with 875 688 tagged stories. Care to guess the next most common? See below the photo!
It’s Andy/Eddie, known three years on as Hilldane, with just 205 130. Here are some more stats - and after looking at them, you’ll know why your favorite Pacific pairing feels rare:
Leckie/Hoosier 77 59
Runner/Chuckler 34 31
Sledge/Sid 23 16
Mary Houston/Sid Phillips 22 14
R.V. Burgin/Florence Riseley 19 14
Vera Keller/Robert Leckie 16 14
Leckie/Runner 16 4
Jay De L'Eau/Bill Leyden 13 9
John & Lena Basilone 12 9
Leckie/Chuckler 6 6
Hoosier/Snafu 5 4
The gap continues when you look at individual tags, too. Snaf leads the pack with 942 742 tagged stories, followed closely by Eugene with 927 712. Who would you guess is next? Yes, it would be Romus Valton Burgin, Burgie himself, with...
...253 168 tagged stories. That’s a huge gap! Here’s who comes next:
Ack Ack Haldane 229 142
Hillbilly Jones 216 134
Bob Leckie 184 139
Sid Phillips 151 110
Hoosier Smith 141 104
Bill Leyden 120 71
Chuckler Juergens 100 77
Runner Conley 99 66
Jay De L'eau 91 64
Lena Riggi Basilone 38 27
Vera Keller 32 30
John Basilone 25 16
Stella Karamanlis 25 21
Gunny Haney 24 14
Hamm 21 19
Peck 15 13
Manny Rodriguez 12 7
Lt. Hugh Corrigan 9 8
Robert Oswalt 7 6
JP Morgan 6 6
Gibson 6 4
So, yeah, that’s why it feels like Team Leckie is overshadowed by K/3/5 - ‘cause it is - and why we don’t see much of Manila John Basilone - ‘cause we don’t! 😭
So how about it, Pacific fans? The juggernaut that is Sledgefu is an overwhelming force, but it sure would be nice to step things up on other fronts. There is so much potential out there.

Fourth MLM Ship Bracket Propaganda Submissions
Below you will find all of the submitted and approved ships for the Fourth MLM Ship Bracket Tournament along with the form to submit further propaganda at the bottom
This is another opportunity to submit propaganda for your favorite ships. Wether you were unable to submit propaganda for them in the initial form or you spot your favorite ship who has no propaganda submitted. Ships with a strikethrough have propaganda submitted, I will continue to update this post as propaganda is submitted. I will accept further propaganda for ships with already submitted propaganda but please prioritize those with out.
The goal is to have propaganda for all ships but I understand that may not be possible. Therefore I will be leaving the form open for a few weeks to see if we receive propaganda for at least half the ships.

This year I got a bit better at reading non-audiobooks, thought not as much as I had hoped, but I feel as though if I were putting more time into it the divide could be overcome. However, I also read far fewer audiobooks this year, in part due to that same promotion at work, in part due to The Election, in part due to falling into bad habits. An easy goal for next year is just working on getting out of that habit. I did manage to hit my target at the end, at least.
I took up the intellectual project of reading "Lesbian War Crimes" Science Fiction/Fantasy books, which had a pretty dramatic effect on the layout of my books for the year. Suffice to say, picking up a contemporary genre is not as Good For Me as reading from wide sources which include international literature and The Classics. Some were real hits though.
My own creative output was not as large as I wanted but it was consistently of relatively high quality and originality, which I think was good. My attempt at a novel failed out of the gate, but I can take a stab at another one in the new year.
Goals for next year: learn some econ, more literary fiction, get a novel down

Notes:
Good capture of Halloween! This was filmed on the aisle so you can see some people getting up and walking around at times. LOTS of latecomers during ready set I had to get up to let people into the row, so there is no video there. The guy in front of me wouldn't stop moving so his head can come in and out of frame at times but it's always worked around.
