I like to think that Phillip is just not interested in Blanc’s job? Like… obviously he thinks that it’s a cool job and it must be interesting but he’s just not very interested in whatever it is that he does, he loves hearing Benoit talk about his cases because he loves seeing him get all exited but that’s where it stops, it’s not the stories that amaze him, it’s Benoit and his immense passion for his profession, the pure pleasure that it gives him to solve a case, the way he dedicates himself to helping other people, that’s what Phillip cares about

I just figured out how Phillip and Benoit met!

Mrs Blanc (Phillip’s mum because Benoit took Phillip’s name) hires Benoit to find out who stole her family’s prized jewel.

Benoit figures out it was Phillip but doesn’t turn him in because twist - it turns out that Phillip’s ancestors stole the jewel so Phillip stole it back to return it to its rightful owners.

Phillip is both a jewel thief and from a wealthy family.

Bonus: Benoit took Phillip out for weeks on Phillip’s mum’s dime under the guise of investigating the case.
