finishing Philippians 4
Tumblr media
This week we have taken a dive through Philippians 4.  This literally is one of my favorite chapters of the Bible.  I have a lot of favorites.  As I said a couple times earlier one of my first Bible promises came from verses 6 and 7 (my first Bible promises were from Psalm 139:23-24 and 150:6).
We have talked about peace and how God gives us that gift for leaving behind worry.  His peace is stronger than anything we know and far beyond anything we have yet to experience.  But what we might not have heard, or at least mentioned in these e-devotion, is that the best thing we learn is from verse 9 as it says “the God of peace with be with you.”
Not only will we have peace.  We will have God with us.  He brings peace with Him.  I love that.
But as we close out this week of e-devotions and our dive through Philippians 4 we find some final words from Paul.  Let me share and summarize those a bit for us…
Philippians 4:10-23  NLT
How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again… 11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. 14 Even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty. 15 As you know, you Philippians were the only ones who gave me financial help when I first brought you the Good News… 17 I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness. 18 At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus… 19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus… 23 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
That is a lot to digest, and I even condensed a little.  Here are the highlights, and this is so, so good.
When people are concerned about you, it really is encouraging!
We must learn to be content if we have a little or if we have a lot.  I have learned that.
Christ gives us strength and the ability to do so much.  I leave verse 13.
The people blessed Paul and were so generous.  He wanted them to be blessed even more.
Paul pointed them, and now points us as well, to know that it is all about the grace of God.
May we learn to go through Scripture, grab on to what God is saying and watch Him change our lives.  He is molding us to be more and more like Jesus.  This chapter is only a small part of all the God is doing.  My prayer is that you have taken time to dive in these verses and grow with me.
God is good!  Philippians 4 proves that fact once more.

Daily Prayer for the Lord's Day: March 24, 2024
Prayer: Our most holy God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as we come before your majesty this Lord’s Day, we come knowing that we are creatures of dust and people without hope in this fallen world if not for your infinite kindness and grace given to us through the blood of the Passover Lamb, the Lord Jesus Christ. We come knowing that we are miserable creatures without you. We come confessing your…

Blessed to Be a Blessing
14 Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. 15 And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. 16 Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. 18 I have…

Don't worry. Pray about everything.
Don’t worry. Pray about everything.…Today’s Manna in the Word…God wants our focus on Him, what He can do in our lives and what He can do with us; not focused on what the world has. ‭Philippians‬ ‭4:6‭-‬7‬ ‭NKJV‬Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,…

Woke up with the thought of payment for the house which led to a crying out to God session. Readjusted the payment, my monthly expenditure budget and looked at the stock market, feeling the ache for selling NVDA too soon. And then, there's a dip in TSLA due to the world situation. A day after I bought some, the Red Sea crisis affected the company. I thought to myself, if only I knew.
But I'm not God. I have limited knowledge. I can't predict the future. I can only rely on His provision.
During devotion, God spoke to me from Philippians 4:19:
"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus."
Sadness, because I felt like I didn't steward my finances well. What I could have done, was to at least find out the percentage of shares Elon owns. It is only today that I found out that it's only 13%. What a painful lesson. Ouch.
And God's words from Isaiah 43:18-19 reminded me:
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."
Then I ended with the song, With All I Am. While listening to the song, flashbacks of how God protected me surfaced - from going deeper into a toxic relationship which might complicate things further if I had bought a house with that ex. I couldn't, because I have to pay for the current house which my dad can't afford. And this leads us back to the start of this journal entry.
There are so many thoughts in my head, I need help. I feel like I am currently in the wilderness.
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." - Psalm 34:18

ISAIAH‬ ‭8‬:‭1‬-‭22‬ ‭‬‬
“Then the Lord said to me, “Make a large signboard and clearly write this name on it: Maher-shalal-hash-baz.” I asked Uriah the priest and Zechariah son of Jeberekiah, both known as honest men, to witness my doing this. Then I slept with my wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. And the Lord said, “Call him Maher-shalal-hash-baz. For before this child is old enough to say ‘Papa’…

the gift of peace
Tumblr media
I sure have enjoyed the e-devotions this week as we make our way through Philippians 4.  Each day opens some of the truths that Paul knew the people of Philippi desperately needed.
Their minds needed to focus on God and what is good.  They needed to have their hearts and minds guarded by His peace.  Our lives will be better by seeking joy more than anything else.  Paul shared this and so much more that the church would be, wait we all would be, changed by.
Walk on a little further.  We have two days left this week, and there are two more specific points I would like to draw our attention to from this chapter of the Bible.  Tomorrow we will talk about final comments, and today we get a reminded that is very important.
Philippians 4:9  NLT
Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
The verse begin with the premise that this advise is an on going, non stop, needed continuous happening that makes us better and all we do last longer.  Paul says keep putting this in to practice.
Practice what?
Practice what you know is right.  Do what you have been taught.  What you received was something like a gift from the one who taught you.  How do we learn best?
We learn by seeing, by what is first hand given to us.  Paul says do what you head from me and what you saw me doing.  When we do what is right and what God has led us to do, we will begin to experience the peace of God
Go back several verses.  Peace is a gift from God.  Peace is possible because we trust God and put away worry and what doesn’t last.  Peace lasts because it is a gift from God.
Practice what gives you peace, and that is a gift from God.

God is so good.
He promises us in Philippians 4:6-7 that if we are "careful for nothing" and take everything to God in prayer "with thanksgiving," then "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
I think I have received that promise! Through my recent suffering, I have had the blessings of God poured down on me. I have had many prayers answered, and I can see God working. I have cried out to him in agony, and thanked him through my pain; and the Lord has been good to me. Praise ye the Lord.
He has comforted me when I thought nothing could bring me comfort, and given me strength to do things I can't normally do, and I have been able to thank Him. The Lord is good. Thank you Jesus, the name above every other name.

God's Provision
Philippians 4.10-23 Paul finishes the book of Philippians sharing the secret of contentment…trusting God in whatever the circumstance to provide what is needed. I think you could even shorten that to…trusting God. In every circumstance. Joy. Peace. Contentment. All much-sought-after commodities in today’s world. And yet all things that are elusive to so many folks…even folks like us who have…
