Phichit Zine Ficlet #1
This little ficlet is serving as a promo and prologue for my @phichitzine fic which is a collaboration with the fabulously talented @heilariart!! (Seriously, the art is unbelievable and I really, really cannot wait for everyone to see the story we have created!)
It is also a story near and dear to my heart, since this concept was developed with the help of my magical, beautiful fluff partner @magical-mistral!! Throughout our time as friends and partners, Mistral has always encouraged me to continue to fight for the multifaceted portrayal of Phichit in this fandom. She has encouraged me to write so many fics based on our joint love of our favorite character. I know that without Mistral, my inspiration would have dried up a long time ago, so the first ficlet that I am posting today is not only a zine prequel but most importantly a tribute to my Phichit, the absolutely incredible @magical-mistral. Thank you, for everything!
A sharp clap from the barrier wall had all of the skaters in the Detroit ice rink coming to an abrupt halt in the midst of their cool downs. Standing with his hands braced on the wall was their coach, his facial expression serious as he commanded their immediate attention. Raising an eyebrow at Yuuri, Phichit skated to the side of his best friend and reached up to pull Yuuri’s earbud from his ear. Nodding his head in Celestino’s direction, Phichit laughed at Yuuri’s panicked face. “He wants all of us, not just you, come on.” Playfully hooking an arm with Yuuri’s elbow, Phichit dragged him toward the group that gathered dutifully around their coach.
“This Saturday is Christmas,” Celestino was flailing his hands as he talked, and Phichit winked at Yuuri as he moved his own arms in subtle mocking. They loved their coach, but they also loved to tease the man at any chance they got. The sound of a clearing throat had Phichit dropping his hands, cheeks flushing as he stared at his feet. “As I was saying,” the statement was aimed in Phichit’s direction and he kept his eyes on the ground, even as his smile continued to quirk at the ends of his lips. “Saturday is Christmas, but members of our junior team are performing in a benefit and I cannot fulfill my duties as Santa Claus at the Children’s Hospital.”
The snicker escaped from Phichit before he could stop it. Elbowing Yuuri, he missed Celestino’s gaze falling on him. “Oh Santa, but what a pointy nose you have,” Phichit whispered, causing Yuuri to snort and slap a hand over his mouth. His second joke was interrupted when his name was firmly called.
“Phichit Chulanont,” Celestino’s pronunciation was flawless as he leveled a devious smile in the direction of his skater. “I was going to ask for a volunteer to take my place, but I will take your comments as enthusiasm. And Yuuri, I think you’ll make a good elf. Thank you for taking time out on a busy Saturday, gentleman, I’ll make sure the volunteer coordinator gets lots of pictures.” Raising his own eyebrow, Celestino smirked at his skaters as he waved his hands to dismiss his team.
“How is it that every time you get in trouble I get dragged into it?” Yuuri hissed, shoving Phichit’s shoulder as they made their way to the locker room.
“It’s what best friends are for,” Phichit threw an arm over Yuuri’s shoulders, tugging him into a head lock. “Besides you look great in tights. You’ll be a perfect elf!” Releasing Yuuri to dodge the punch being thrown at his side, Phichit cackled as he plopped on the bench to remove his skates. Playing Santa wasn’t his ideal way to spend a Saturday but it was definitely better than any of Celestino’s previous ideas of punishments.
“Sleep with one eye open, Chulanont,” Yuuri teased, pushing open the door to the locker room and looking back over his shoulder with a sarcastic glare.
“I always do, Mr. Nikiforov!” Falling backwards off the bench when Yuuri threw a dirty towel at him, Phichit continued to laugh as he watched his blushing best friend disappear through the swinging doors.
When Phichit moved to Detroit to train, he was convinced that finding friends would be easy. He had lots of friends growing up and his social circle at home still kept in constant contact through the wonders of social media. It had been a rude awakening to discover himself among the youngest of the skaters training with Celestino and the only skater looking to make lifelong friendships with his rink mates.
For the first week that he had roomed with Yuuri, Phichit was convinced Celestino was pranking him. Yuuri was quiet and serious, and in so many ways the exact opposite of Phichit. At least that’s what Phichit had thought, until the morning that he had discovered Yuuri standing in the kitchen at dawn drinking coffee out of a cereal bowl. Delirious with sleep deprivation, Phichit had stumbled into the kitchen, grabbed a matching bowl and filled it to the brim with steaming coffee. Yuuri had clinked his bowl against Phichit’s and whispered “cheers to bad decisions” making Phichit snicker into his caffeinated salvation.
The walls had toppled from there. Yuuri was funny and sarcastic, his humor flowing perfectly against Phichit’s quick quips of situational humor. They had found a trusted rhythm with each other and Phichit had found the best friend he had desperately wanted in Detroit.
Faith in that friendship had Phichit grinning up from their small kitchen table as Yuuri unlocked and threw open the door to their shared living space. He watched as Yuuri toed off his shoes, counting down the seconds in his head before Yuuri lifted his eyes and got a glimpse of Phichit’s newest stroke of genius. Phichit was not disappointed as Yuuri finally looked up, eyes going wide at the sight on the table.
“Please tell me you are not trying to build a plushie hamster army…” Yuuri blandly regarded the lines of stuffed hamsters standing at attention in front of Phichit. Leaning on the counter, Yuuri took a slow sip from his water bottle while waiting for an explanation.
“That’s sort of… exactly what I’m doing,” Phichit laughed, lifting a triangle shape of red fabric. “Celestino said that he gives the kids coloring books every year and that’s fine, but hamsters are so much better! Especially if they are superheroes!” Proud of his own handiwork, Phichit turned the closest hamster to face Yuuri. There was a blue mask velcroed over the hamster’s beady plastic eyes and a matching blue cape tied around his neck. “See, each kid will get a hamster to help them fight their cancer.” Fiddling with the cape in his hand, Phichit hesitantly glanced at Yuuri for an opinion. His idea had seemed brilliant right up until he said it out loud.
Pushing from the counter, Yuuri took two steps to yank his chair from the table. Settling next to Phichit, Yuuri shook his head. “You are the best kind of crazy.” His voice was hushed as Yuuri reached between fluffy hamsters to lift the stack of fabric in front of Phichit. “How can I help?”
The grin broke over Phichit’s face as he slid a second pattern over to Yuuri. Both of them knew how to sew, a product of starting in their figure skating careers with hand-me-down costumes and small budgets. Repositioning his sewing kit between them, Phichit began to excitedly explain his plan, grateful that Yuuri was always ready to jump into whatever craziness Phichit had up his sleeve.
“I hate the smell of hospitals,” Yuuri commented, leaning back against the elevator with his legs crossed at the ankles. His outfit was a bright green, trimmed in red with points on his hat, shoes and ears. The stockings were stripes of red and green exposed under the remarkably short shorts that made up the bottom of ensemble.
“Same,” Phichit commented, his mind filtering through the months of visiting his grandfather the year before he left for Detroit. He had hated Christmas that year, and the pit in his stomach had instantly returned when they had stepped through automatic doors. Shifting the heavy red bag on his shoulder, Phichit cracked his neck trying to suppress the sickness creeping up his throat. If Christmas in the hospital had been horrible for Phichit’s ninety-two-year-old grandfather, he couldn’t imagine how awful it would be for the children living on the oncology unit. Swallowing his nerves, he prepared to force his smile as the elevator doors slowly slid open.
It was the noise that hit them first. Christmas carols were filling the hallways as nurses in Santa hats sang along with the tunes, pushing and guiding patients toward the family room. Phichit knew there would be nine children in the shared room, with six other children remaining in their rooms for medical reasons. He had badgered Celestino with questions about each child, and then took the time to contact the hospital about the ones Celestino didn’t know. Even though Celestino told him that the hospital worked hard to make the holidays joyful, Phichit hadn’t believed him. He had been ready for the worst, and was pleasantly surprised to be wrong.
“Santa!!!”
A small body collided with Phichit’s waist, tiny arms squeezing around the large mass of Phichit’s pillowed stomach. The suit was made of a soft red fabric, and the tiny child buried his face into the front of Phichit’s fake belly. “I told everyone that you would come, but they didn’t believe me. Then you sent the mountain of presents and now you are here!” Peering up, the child continued to smile as Phichit processed the bald head and hollowed cheeks.
“Of course Santa came!” Yuuri knelt down, smiling at the little boy who continued to cling to Phichit. “And he dragged me along because we brought some extra special presents and he can’t handle life without me.” Smirking, Yuuri winked at Phichit who pretended to be offended by his words. “I’m Elf Yuuri, what’s your name?”
“Jeffrey,” Phichit and the small boy said at the same time. A thrilled gasp escaped the child as his wide eyes turned back to Phichit’s bearded face. “You know who I am?”
There was a sweet quiver to the question which caused the first threat of tears to sting Phichit’s eyes. “Of course I know who you are! You are a very brave little boy who definitely deserves a brand new Nintendo DS.” Phichit used a lower voice, attempting to imitate the Santa that was popular in American culture. He nudged Yuuri with a foot when Yuuri attempted to stifle a laugh. “And Elf Yuuri is right! We had presents delivered early, but I also have some extra special surprises in my sack!” He resisted the urge to kick Yuuri harder when Yuuri’s laughter became louder. Pushing Yuuri’s shoulder, Phichit laughed with Jeffrey as Yuuri sprawled onto the floor. “How about we head for the party, Mr. Jeffrey? We’ll let giggles here catch up when he can control himself.” Bending, Phichit hoisted Jeffrey onto his hip trying to ignore how light the boy was and the feeling of the boy’s delicate ribs under his fingertips.
Jeffrey pecked a kiss to Phichit’s cheek and yelled, “on to the fun!” Laughter peeling out of him as Phichit began to gallop in the direction of party. Looking back over his shoulder, Phichit grinned as Yuuri retrieved their bag of surprises with a bright smile of his own.
They had spent exactly ten minutes on the oncology floor of the Children’s Hospital of Michigan and Phichit already knew that his heart was stolen. His smile was no longer forced as he made his way into the party room, vowing to give these children the best Christmas party they had ever had.

i’m only halfway through s2 of santa clarita diet
i still need an au of it. consider:
mild-mannered retired olympic champion skater and now coach yuuri katsuki-nikiforov eats bad clams and turns into a zombie
his husband, retired five-time world champion skater and now choreographer viktor katsuki-nikiforov, is Very Concerned about this sudden change in his husband
because, you know, yuuri’s suddenly impulsively trying to feel him up at the rink, mouthing off at yurio with newfound viciousness, even flipped off kathy from the PTA when she tried to insinuate that all that katsudon was going to make him get fat
(viktor doesn’t care if yuuri gets fat)
(but he very much does care that yuuri is eating raw hamburger meat out of the freezer)
and now yuuri’s libido, which had been healthy before, is now insanely off the charts
(viktor starts a prayer circle for his own dick)
which would be a really great thing if it weren’t for the fact that all of this newfound energy comes out in the form of him wanting to go to clubs more often
and dance all the time
on a pole
in his boxers
with everyone watching
(viktor appreciates it, really, he’s a grown-ass man, but usually yuuri only does that smashed off of 16 glasses of champagne and right now he is doing it stone cold sober what the FUCK)
and now there’s some chad trying to put the moves on his husband and viktor really should intervene, because yuuri... is leading him out the back door
to the back alley
the very empty, camera-less back alley
and he is OH MY GOD HE IS EATING THE CHAD
MY HUSBAND, WHO IS NOW A ZOMBIE, JUST ATE A MAN TRYING TO FEEL HIM UP IN THE CLUB WHAT THE HELL AM I GOING TO DO
anyway i need yuuri as sheila, viktor as joel, and yurio as abby and i needed this au yesterday thanks

Katsuki Yūri had always loved animals. most of his relatives thought he would grow out if it in his teenage years, but here he was; an animal lover in his twenties.
something else he'd always loved was baking. it was a shared activity that had brought him closer to his mother. the nostalgia from smelling cinnamon in the air, or brushing flour off of his hands took him back to the kitchen of his childhood home in a matter of seconds.
oh, and one more thing he loved was the holiday season. he loved the light hearted spirit that surrounded this time, but he also enjoyed the sense of rush it gave him in a customer service job. that's right, Katsuki Yūri had achieved his dream job. nothing could ever be a more perfect work environment for him than a cat café.
he'd managed to climb the ranks and gain the trust of his superiors. by now he was something of a manager in his little café.
that didn't mean he wouldn't get the normal tasks done himself, though.
he was just sweeping the floors and cleaning the tables during the last open hour, while jazzy Christmas songs played in the background, when he heard the door open.
"welcome! what can I get you?" he said his usual greeting while making his way back to the front.
only as he stood behind the counter he got a good look at the gentleman with a long trench coat and platinum hair. his prim appearance made him look out of place in a more relaxed environment like this one.
"may I have a cappuccino, please?" the customer requested.
"coming right up! would that be all?"
"that's all, thank you."
the platinum haired man gave Yūri a small, polite smile before stepping to the side to wait for his order.
the barista prepared the coffee, but he couldn't erase those light blue eyes from his mind. they looked like a pair of aquamarine gemstones.
Yūri looked at the milk foam sitting at the top of the glass mug, before deciding to draw a heart on this handsome customer's coffee. he took the mug to the cash register and pushed it across the counter carefully.
another small smile formed onto the other man's lips the moment he saw the heart.
"thank you kindly", was all he said after paying for his drink.
Yūri watched him walk across the room to an empty armchair and pull out a small book from the breast pocket of his jacket. the brown eyes were glued to him as he slipped the outside coat off and set it on the armrest carefully.
Yūri could feel his coworker's eyes on himself as he kept admiring the blue plaid vest paired with a simple, white button up.
"Yūri, you're staring", his friend Phichit noted.
"but... just look at him", Yūri sighed out, "he looks so... posh."
he leaned his elbow against the counter and kept his eyes on the stranger whose body language was the most graceful Yūri had ever seen.
Phichit nudged him forward.
"stop drooling and go talk to him!"
Yūri's face flushed and turned around to scold the younger man: "I am not drooling! I just admire people like him."
along with a "sure, sure", he was pushed out of hiding behind the counter and he stood awkwardly in the open. he took a deep breath and started walking towards the customer.
it was only then he noticed one of the cats curled up on the elegant man's lap.
"oh, she seems to really like you."
the light blue eyes looked up at him.
"why do you sound so surprised?" the customer questioned as his head tilted to the side slightly.
"she's usually not one to care about customers. she always takes a while to warm up to the staff too", the black haired one explained.
a chuckle was heard before the stranger spoke up again: "I must be special, then."
the next day Yūri couldn't get the strange customer out of his mind. the way he moved, the way he spoke...
"thank you for the coffee", he'd said, glancing at the nametag on the apron, "Yuuuuri~."
the way he'd dragged out the u in Yūri, made the barista's heart flutter.
"stop daydreaming", the youngest employee, another Yuri, - though everyone called him Yurio - said as he smacked the back of Yūri's head.
"ow", the older of the two mumbled out while rubbing the spot Yurio had hit.
"you're usually not like this. I'd expect this from Phichit, but not you. I thought you were sensible."
"hey!" was heard from the back.
Yūri chuckled.
"well, yes, this is the first time this has happened to me", he admitted.
Phichit chose to stop eavesdropping and join the conversation: "but you had a girlfriend in high school, didn't you?"
Yūri felt guilt flushing through him.
"yes, I did, but I don't think I was ever in love with her."
"because you're gay", Yurio retorted.
Phichit looked at him with his jaw dropped open, as if he just revealed a character death from a show they were watching.
"what? did he seriously not know?"
Yūri could only replay those words in his head. gay? now that someone said it out loud, it made a lot of sense. maybe he was gay. and just maybe, that gorgeous customer he knew nothing about was his gay awakening.
but, it wasn't like Yūri would ever see him again, unless he decided to visit the café again himself.
the next time he saw those aquamarine eyes was on a late night walk back home after closing the coffeeshop.
"Makkachin!" someone yelled, right before a strange force took Yūri down to the ground.
"I am so sorry, he doesn't usually do things like this", the stranger apologized.
Yūri opened his eyes to see the faces of a large poodle and that platinum haired customer from earlier the same week hanging over him.
"I must be special, then", he laughed out as the not-so-unfamiliar stranger helped him back up to his feet.
"yes, I suppose the tables have turned", the taller man said with a gentle smile.
before letting go of Yūri's hand, he breathed out a name: "Victor."
"Victor?"
"my name. I'm Victor."
"oh!" Yūri exclaimed as realization rolled over him, "nice to formally meet you, Victor."
"please, no need to be so polite, my dog did just knock you over."
they both chuckled softly before Victor started speaking again: "have you eaten yet?"
"ah, no, I'm going to eat once I get home."
"could I treat you to some nikuman?" Victor offered, "it's the least I can do."
a certain warm excitement filled Yūri's chest as he nodded with a smile.
"I'd like that."
the pair walked together, with their steaming meat buns in hand. Yūri could feel the awkwardness in the silence hanging between them, and he had to break it.
"so, do you usually use your dog to get closer to people like this?"
bad joke... not funny.
"only when they're adorable", Victor slipped out smoothly.
oh. oh. wasn't that a flirt?
and a good one at that.
Yūri could feel the heat rush to his cheeks as he bit into the bun again, trying to think of how he could possibly respond to that.
"I saw you looking at me, Yuuuri."
great, add in the embarrassment of getting caught staring at a customer, and what you have is Yūri turning into a mess.
after no replies from Yūri, Victor kept talking: "I wanted to see you again, but I didn't want to be your customer."
they both stopped walking and Victor turned Yūri's head towards himself.
Yūri felt his knees go weak as the sincere aquamarine eyes gazed into his soul.
"I must be lucky to run into you like this."
"m-me too", Yūri finally stammered out.
the gentle smile on Victor's face grew slightly wider.
"I know this might all come out of the blue, but would you want to go on a date with me?"
Yūri blinked once, twice, even thrice. a date? he must've been dreaming this.
"seriously?"
a snort escaped the other man.
"yes, I'm serious."
"uh, yes, I'd love to..."
Victor let go of Yūri and took a step further away from him.
"how about dinner after your shift on Saturday?"
Yūri only nodded enthusiastically. his voice was lost somewhere inside him due to the shock. he could only watch as Victor waved his goodbye and started walking away with his dog.
"he asked you out!?" Phichit's exclamation filled the kitchen the next morning as they were rolling out dough.
"yes... he's taking me out tomorrow night", Yūri said quietly.
"what? where? when?"
the bombarding of questions made it seem like Phichit was more excited for the upcoming date than Yūri was himself.
"he's meeting me here after closing, and we'll go to dinner."
"ooh, how classy.... a dinner date. wonder where that'll end up~..."
the tone in Phichit's voice got the nerves in Yūri to wake up.
this would be his first proper date. how was he supposed to act? was he supposed to get something for his date? what would they even talk about?
maybe he should read a short guide on dating...
Phichit's voice cut through his thoughts: "you look like you're spiraling, Yūri... you okay?"
"...yes! I'm totally fine. I can go on a date with a crazy handsome guy who's clearly out of my league! no problem!"
the nervous laughter escaping his lips didn't help in convincing his friend. the pair of dark grey eyes only gave him a pitying look, as if to say he was thinking too deeply into this.
"you'll be fine. there's no need to think about it too hard, just act as you would normally."
the – without lying – almost dreaded Saturday evening drew close, and Yūri couldn't contain the butterflies in his stomach when the platinum haired gentleman stepped inside the café. his lips curled into a soft smile as his aquamarine eyes locked onto the man standing behind the counter.
Yūri felt like his knees might give out at any moment. somehow Victor's gaze on him was fierce and tender at the same time.
"Yuuuri", he spoke, and his voice was velvet against Yūri's ears, "are you ready to go?"
the black haired man could only nod as his heart was beating out of his chest. would Victor reach for his hand?
he didn't.
Yūri could feel disappointment settle into his chest as they walked side by side, with a gap in between.
Yūri felt as if he needed to close said gap. he couldn't stand feeling like he was too far to reach Victor even with the tip of his finger.
suddenly the other man stopped walking and their arms bumped into each other.
"we're here", Victor breathed out a small cloud of fog into the cold night air, "the best sushi in town."
the pair walked inside and were wrapped in the surprisingly warm ambience.
Victor led Yūri into a small table in a quiet corner, with a single candle and rose in the middle.
"I made us a reservation beforehand", he mentioned as if it was the most obvious thing to be done.
he even pulled out the other chair and motioned for Yūri to sit down.
the flutter returned to his heart as he took a seat and watched the graceful man sit down on the other side of the table. Yūri watched the flicker of candlelight dance on the flawless face as the blue eyes scanned through the menu.
the dinner date went on smoothly. conversation flowed naturally and the experience as a whole felt breezy to Yūri. he hadn't felt this exhilarated in possibly years – Victor really made him feel like there was a whole new world to be discovered.
to top the night off, Victor had offered to walk Yūri back to his own apartment.
"tonight was really lovely", the black haired man said quietly.
the taller one gazed into his eyes with a soft smile as they stood on the doorstep of the apartment building.
"yes, I had a wonderful time" the velvety voice sounded out as Yūri felt a gentle squeeze on his hands, "do you think I could take you out on another date?"
an exclamation was heard: "yes, absolutely!"
and a satisfied chuckle followed.
"get your skates ready for next weekend."
with that, Victor said goodbye, but his hands lingered on Yūri's for a moment longer before pulling away.
the barista stood still at the door. he could feel the cold air surround the skin on his hands again, without the warmth from Victor.
the days went by in a flash – Yūri tried to convince himself – when in reality this had felt like the longest week of his life. but like promised, on Friday afternoon, Victor took Yūri out to an ice skating rink.
"let me help you with those", he said before kneeling down and tying Yūri's skates.
"oh, thank you", Yūri mumbled while hiding his red cheeks into his wooly scarf, "it's been a while since I last went ice skating."
"that's okay. I'll help you", Victor assured, giving a gentle look to the other man while offering his hand.
Yūri took the hand, and he was lead to the ice. his knees felt weak, but the hands holding him up were like a strong force supporting him.
little by little, Yūri did get comfortable on the slippery surface. and by the time Victor finally let him go, he was able to skate smoothly without falling over.
"great job, Yuuuri, look at you go!" Victor encouraged him with the signature gentle smile.
and when Yūri looked at the smile, he could feel his heart melting away into a puddle, filling his whole chest with warmth.
it was a completely new feeling to Yūri. everytime he was with Victor, he could feel the excitement bubbling up inside.
that was until a vital piece of information was revealed.
maybe Yūri shouldn't have asked what Victor did for a living. he wasn't prepared to hear that Victor worked for the exact law firm, which had been tormenting the café and its owner for years. for some reason they'd been set on finding the slightest reason to get the café shut down.
was Victor just trying to get to close to him in hopes of making a new discovery? or obtaining some delicate information?
Yūri's head started brewing a storm of doubts and disbelief. he couldn't understand how good of an actor Victor had been.
and it seemed like the platinum haired man noticed something going on.
"Yuuuri, what's wrong?"
"I- I think I... I need to go", Yūri stammered out before stumbling off the ice.
he kicked the skates off as fast as he could, hoping Victor wouldn't be able to run after him.
but just as he was leaving, Victor grabbed his wrist.
"Yūri, please, talk to me. what happened back there? is my occupation a problem?"
Yūri took a few shaky breaths before replying: "don't pretend like you don't know... how could you just be using me? playing with my feelings? I really liked you, but knowing this was all fake breaks my heart."
he yanked his hand free and ran away, tears almost freezing on his cheeks as they escaped his eyes.
there was a pit in his chest, where there used to be warmth.
after that, Yūri didn't see Victor for another week. with each passing day, he did want to see the platinum haired man more.
it made him feel conflicted.
why would he want to see someone who was only messing around with him?
had he already lost all sense to being charmed by the gentleman?
yes, he had, Phichit had told him.
he'd also said Yūri needed something called closure. if things were to be left like this, it would be unsatisfying and Yūri would keep wondering about the what ifs even years later.
his friend was probably right, considering out of the two he had more experience with romance.
and as Christmas eve drew close, Yūri was as absorbed into his work as ever. the only thing he allowed himself to worry about were the cats of the café.
and as he was working at the counter, the bell tinged.
once he looked up to see the customer, he saw those painfully familiar aquamarine eyes. his heart almost stopped beating for a moment.
Victor stood at the doorstep, a bouquet of amaryllis, a couple poinsettias, cymbidium orchids, and to top it off; red roses.
and as if Phichit had changed the song of his own accord, one of the most well known American Christmas songs started playing.
the tall man took hefty steps, crossing the wooden plank floor to hand the bouquet to the barista.
"all I want for Christmas is you", Mariah Carey sang through the speakers.
"Yūri, will you please let me explain myself to you?"
after what felt like ages, but was only a few seconds in reality, Yūri gave Victor a nod. he couldn't help but feel curious about what the man had to say for himself.
and once they had stepped outside together, Victor began explaining.
he elaborated how he'd had no idea the firm he was employed by was fighting against this specific café, how he had been kept completely in the dark about everything related to it until he asked around about it.
"I wanted to get to the bottom of it, so I could understand your side, and I realize what it must have looked like to you now", Victor said carefully, "but I promise I've been serious this whole time."
Victor reached out to grab Yūri's hand, lifting his other one to the black haired man's cheek. the hands were cold, but still they managed to spread warmth onto Yūri's skin.
he had to admit he had been missing Victor's touch. maybe now he didn't need to long for it anymore.
"Yuuuri, will you give me another chance?" Victor spoke softly while leaning closer.
"yes, Victor, I'm sorry for judging you so fast..."
he really did feel guilty. Victor had been innocent the whole time, but Yūri had let his doubts get the best of him.
the aquamarine eyes were staring into his soul – or at least that's what it felt like – and Yūri felt the most vulnerable he ever had before.
that's when Victor said it: "I'm not going to wait for rain for me to kiss you."
instinctively Yūri leaned closer, he gazed back at Victor, before closing his eyes. he felt the other man holding the side of his face as their lips crashed into each other. their dance started slowly and delicately, but turned into what felt more needy than anything else.
once they pulled apart, they only kept staring at each other with shy smiles.
finally, Yūri broke the silence by asking: "why would you go to such lengths for me?"
"I really like you, if that wasn't clear already, and I want you in my life..."
Victor squeezed Yūri's hands.
"whenever you're ready for it, I'd like to make this official."
the barista was shocked. this person, who was clearly out of his league, wanted to date him?
"well, um", he stammered, "I do want that, but are you sure..?"
"yes, positive", Victor affirmed as he pulled Yūri into an embrace.
and as he was wrapped in the most comfortable warmth he'd ever felt, he sighed happily and whispered: "why me?"
"because you're special."
another thing he'd come to love, was going to be Victor.

Today's translation #103
Miracle!!! on Ice (Animage 2017/01 Yuri!!! on Ice booklet) Hayashi Yuichiro's comments (ending storyboards, staging, key animation)
Part 2.
Phichit Chulanont
Phichit buying and eating sweets from street food stalls in Bangkok. He likes social media, so he most likely posts selfies almost everyday. That's why I thought a little scene from his everyday life like this one would be a good choice. I drew it is such a way to give it this "So fun!" "So delicious!" vibe.
Tumblr media
Lee Seung Gil
Together with his dog, in his apartment in Korea. The breed is Siberian Husky. At the staff meeting, I've heard that "Seung Gil isn't interested in fashion", so I gave his everyday clothes a bit unfortunate look. At first, I had a plan to show him slacking off at home in a sweatsuit, but I thought that would be too much (laugh), so instead I drew this scene.
Tumblr media
Michele Crispino
A day off spent together with his sister. They are taking pictures during their visit to Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral in Florence. Michele looks so happy he's with his beloved sister, isn't he.
Tumblr media
Jean-Jacques Leroy
JJ on his day off, spending time at a hotel in Singapore popular with celebrities. I drew this scene as a "I'm going to a party!" kind of scene, JJ showing off how successful his private life is. He's a guy surrounded by girls all the time, but still he thinks about his fans' feelings, so all the girls are turning their back to the camera. The setting for this scene is that only JJ should face the camera.
Tumblr media
[Notes: I wonder if JJ's character maybe changed a lot during the production...? Here he seems to be a playboy, but later the setting was that he's a good Christian. Did he change his sinful ways? Or is he simply a hypocrite...? Or is his willpower so strong that he can surround himself with girls all the time and do nothing...? So many questions🤔]

Following Worlds, Otabek and Yuri have two extended vacations, one planned and one unexpected.
Much to Yuri’s dismay, Otabek woke him at seven the next morning.  He was eager to explore the city, rapidly firing off all the sights he wanted to visit.  Yuri couldn’t snap at his fiancé, smiling from his enthusiasm.
“I want to see the dome and cathedral, then the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella.  After that, I want to visit the Medici Chapel.  You know how much I love Medici history,” Otabek rambled without stopping, “It’ll probably be lunchtime by then, so I’ll let you choose which restaurant we eat at.  Once we’re done, I want to go to the leather market.  I need to get gifts for Ash and Talya. Next—”
“Beka, take a breath,” Yuri instructed, grinning at him, “We have three days.  We don’t have to cram everything in the first one. Why don’t we dedicate tomorrow to seeing sights that involve the history of the Medicis?”
“Really?” Otabek inquired, his happiness reminding Yuri of a child, “That sounds awesome!”

Hey, it's your santa! I would love to write you a Phichimetti fic! If you could combine any of the two themes/tropes into one fic, what two would you pick? Fake dating, royalty, camboy, soulmate, college/uni, soulmate. Also, do you have any hcs or ideas about the two as individuals or a pair? Anything you'd really like to see? Do not worry, it WILL be nsfw.
Tumblr media
OMG, OMG, OMG!!! I’M SO EXCITED! NGL: Soulmate is right up there as one of my favs. And although fake dating is fun, I’m going to go with Camboy!! I would love some Soulmate:Camboy action going on! As for HC... ack. I don’t know.
Just Phichit being his usual self, although I can see him being more of the adventurous side and not so innocent as people might think. I also like to HC that Chris isn’t as promiscuous as people think he is. He’s actually more interested in committed relationships than one night stands. BUT that’s not to say that he’s not into voyeurism or exhibitionism. (For either of them really!)
I’m SO SUPER EXCITED!!! THANK YOU!!!

Their first Christmas together as a couple is more than they both could ever imagine, Otabek finally giving Yuri the best gift ever.
“This is gorgeous, Yura.”
Otabek looked up at the lights, laying on the tree skirt and looking up. When Yuri suggested they lie under the tree, Otabek thought he was out of his mind. He was unsure about Yuri's idea but promised him he’d give it a shot. Now he was glad he did.
“I’ve been doing this as long as I can remember,” Yuri whispered, “I’d sneak downstairs while Mama and Pops were getting Santa gifts together and lay under the tree. She caught me one year and tanned my hide. I think I was four.”
“Well, I’m glad you discovered this. I don’t think I’ve seen many things this mesmerizing.”
Otabek threaded his fingers through Yuri’s and let his eyes meander among the scene in front of him. The smell of pine wafted into his nostrils and the twinkling of the lights was enchanting. He had something on his mind, and he figured this was the perfect time to tell him.

Dearly Beloved - Bonus chapter 10 - Christmas celebration (Patreon Exclusive)
It’s the Christmas of 2023 and Victor and Yuuri are preparing to host a family friendly party where everyone is invited, except Santa.
Victor - 35 years old
Yuuri - 31 years old
Yuri - 22 years old
“Vitya, do you know what time Chris and Phichit are landing?” Yuuri called as he was busy dressing their very long table that would fit all their family and friends.
“They said sometime after 9:00pm,” Victor called back as he picked Nikolaj away from trying to open the presents from under the Christmas tree. “Niko, we talked about that,” he scolded his youngest son.
Nikolaj kept reaching for the tree. “But I want them now…” he pouted.
“What would Santa say?” Victor asked as he put his son down close to Yuuri.
Nikolaj puffed out his chest proudly. “I’m not scared of him,” he declared seriously.
“He would be disappointed,” Victor told him.
Yuuri rolled his eyes fondly at his mate using Santa as a way to get their son to behave.
They had lived in America for almost three years, and most of Nikolaj’s life. So there was no surprise that he was crazy about Santa, considering the image media portrayed him in that country.
Yuuri still didn’t like him though.
Some fears just couldn’t be broken.
“He’s not even coming,” Nikolaj said dejectedly. “He never comes.”
Yuuri felt his heart break slightly for his son.
“He has thousands and thousands of houses to get presents to,” Sora chimed in from where he was helping with folding napkins into triangles. “He doesn’t have time to stop and say hello. The important thing is that he does his job.”
“I want to say hi to him,” Nikolaj declared. “I want to pet his reindeers!”
“You can do that when you’re older,” Victor said gently and ruffled Nikolaj’s hair.
In that moment, the doorbell rang.
“Do you want to see who’s at the door?” Victor asked in order to change the subject.
Nikolaj smiled as he nodded excitedly.
Victor reached out his hand to him. “Come on then,” he urged to which his son immediately complied.
“If it’s Yurio, tell him to bring the presents to the garage,” Yuuri told his husband in Russian, in order to keep the truth away from his children. Sora knew a little Japanese, so that language was out of the question.
“What did he say?” Nikolaj asked excitedly.
“That he loves me very much,” Victor told his son. “But in Russian.”
Nikolaj lit up. “Russian like Baba and Deda?”
Victor nodded. “And like papa.”
“But why does dad speak it?” Nikolaj asked as Victor took him to the front door.
Victor laughed fondly as he did his best to answer his son’s questions.
“Is Yurio coming?” Sora asked excitedly.
“He is,” Yuuri assured. “He said that he was coming fairly early, maybe even before your grandparents.”
“Yurio is so cool,” Sora declared. “He once let me try on his leopard jacket.”
“He’s very cool,” Yuuri mused, just as Hana let out a soft cry from the nursery.
Yuuri looked at the clock and noticed that it was her dinnertime. “Do you want to help papa and Niko with the door?” he asked his oldest son. “I need to get your little sister her dinner.”
“Okay!” Sora cheered as he jumped up to his feet and took off.
Yuuri smiled fondly as he made his way to the nursery, feeling his heart flutter as his eyes fell to his daughter. “Hi, baby,” he greeted her softly.

Secret Santa time!
To @gay-manga-ships From @undadasea
Merry Christmas, darling! I’m sorry it’s not really Christmas-y, I’m not very good at holiday themed stuff :’)) but I hope you like it regardless of the lack of festivity! Enjoy the silly problems of a pining teenage Victor <3
Description: Cinderella, a tale of falling in love at first sight and fighting for that love.
When Victor’s school puts on Cinderella, a new actor emerges and takes the lead. Maybe Victor’s been in love from the moment he laid eyes on Yuuri, and maybe Yuuri feels the same. It definitely takes them both a while to build up the courage to say so. Maybe it takes a few weeks of acting and texting, but it absolutely does get resolved. Eventually.
>>>>>
Day 1: Auditions. “Alright!”
Ms. Green clapped her hands, gaining the attention of everyone in the room. Victor turned away from Chris to look at her standing on the stage. “I’m so glad to see a lot of students here for our spring production of Cinderella! Now, I know a few of you are returning from last year, but remember; just because you were here last year doesn’t guarantee you a big role this time. I’m sorry, but fair is fair. Now.” She waved a hand out towards the audience and one of the other students stood and joined her on the stage. Ms. Green rested a hand on his shoulder, and he grinned big. “This is Phichit Chulanont. He’s going to be our director this year. Phichit, take it away.”
A few students clapped as Ms. Green descended the stairs, Victor included. He loved that Ms. Green always had a freshman acting as the director of the spring productions, and he remembered his turn in that spot fondly. Directing a bunch of students older than him to act out Romeo and Juliet had been a challenge, but it was fun nonetheless.
“Hi!” Phichit waved. “Like Ms. Green said, I’m Phichit. I hope that I can help all of you reach your fullest potential for our performances! I plan to cast based on talent, and talent alone. I’m very excited to get started, so let’s go!”
After he finished, he called a few people onto the stage and got right to work. As everyone got up, he introduced himself to them each personally and gave them a scene. When Victor went up, Phichit glanced away at someone for a moment before handing him a script.
“Alright, Victor, I want you to act as Cinderella.” Victor nodded, smiling, and walked over to center stage. They were practicing the ball scene, and already they had a the step-sisters and the step-mother.
“Who should be your prince, hm?” Phichit asked coyly, looking around. He seemed to find his target as he smiled brightly. “Yuuri! Would you please play the prince for us?”
There was some grumbling, but eventually another student who must be Yuuri came up the stairs. He had messy black hair and blue-framed glasses on, as well as an over-sized sweater and baggy sweatpants.
Victor tried to keep a smile on his face as he approached.
Then they began the scene, Victor waiting off-stage for his part, listening for his cue and reading along.
“It’s the prince!” Someone yells, Victor has already forgotten her name, but he knows that’s his cue, and he steps on-stage with all the nervous grace he can muster. He watches briefly as Chris and another student tussle around with the Prince before they stop and all eyes are on him. The Prince comes over in the silence and offers him a hand, and in that silence, Victor’s breath stops.
The Prince is panting a little, most likely due to wrestling with Chris, his cheeks flushed a light pink. And Victor notices now his nice, brown eyes blown wide, shining in the stage lights, different shades of brown mixed together.
Oh no.
He begins to reach out for his hand, and then Sara’s voice cuts in, making them both pull away. “It’s time to play ridicule! Everyone! Take sides!”
And they are both whisked away as the scene progresses. The continue for only a little bit longer before Phichit cuts them off, clapping his hands.
“Wonderful! I want to try something, though. Yuuri, Victor, switch roles. Start at the same place as before.”
Victor turned to Chris with a furrowed brow, but his friend only shrugged and moved back to where he had started. Victor moved to his spot, and they started again.
When it came time for Cinderella to enter once again, after Victor fought Chris and whoever else off of himself, he turned to see Yuuri standing on the other side of the stage, fidgeting with his hands. He made his way over, and slowly he reached a hand out to him. Yuuri looked up from the floor, his cheeks once again flushed and his lips parted slightly. Victor smiled, and held his hand flat, waiting. Yuuri reached up to grab it, and once more, before they could touch, Sara cut in.
So they continued to the act, until they had reached the same place as before.
“Okay, I think that’s a good place to end it today!” Phichit called out, climbing back onto the stage and gestured for everyone else to get off. "Ms. Green and I will work on the cast list today, and we should have it finished and posted tomorrow. So I’ll see you all then!“ And then he made a shooing motion with his hand.
Victor only made it to the car before he broke down.
“CHRIS OH MY GOD.”
“Victor! I’m not deaf, you don’t HAVE to yell at me!”
“Sorry.” Victor rubbed his neck sheepishly as they pulled out of the school.
“It’s just. I think I’m in love. Help meeeee.”
Chris laughed. “Wow? So soon? And who?”
“Yuuri! That last scene just… UGH. He’s so cute, Chris!” Victor whined.
“He was an amazing actor, too! That’s all I need in a man. Handsome, adorable, good actor, he has my heart already.”
Chris shook his head, but he was smiling. “You only just met, Victor. You don’t even know if he’s a good person. You’ve never had a conversation!”
“I don’t care, he’s perfect. God, how am I supposed to survive 11 weeks of practice with his perfection?”
Chris rolled his eyes, but he drove on. Victor knew, though, that he wouldn’t survive to the performances. He could already tell.
Day 2: Casting. “Victor Nikiforov! You will be our Prince Charming.”
Victor smiled at the announcement. Honestly, he loved the role, after spending all night reading the script. Now, if only his Cinderella was….
“Yuuri Katsuki!” Ms. Green’s voice called next. “You will be Cinderella, the star of the show.”
He couldn’t help the huge grin that spread across his face as he glanced out in the crowd of students to find his new crush. There he was, hiding his face in his hands. There was the hint of a smile that Victor could spot, just barely peeking out from behind his hand.
Standing and crossing the room, Victor stopped in front of Yuuri. When the latter moved his hands off his face, Victor grabbed them. They were so soft.
“Yuuri! I’m really excited to work with you as my Cinderella! If you are anywhere near as good as you were during auditions, then I’m sure our performances will be the best production this entire school has ever had.”
Yuuri stared up at him, the blush Victor has already become fond of ever-present on his face. Now that Victor got a better look, he could see how it spread all the way to his ears. Adorable.
“I-I’m not too sure about that…” Yuuri mumbled, his eyes dropping to his lap. “Your performance in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ is quite the competitor.”
Victor beamed, fighting a blush of his own. “You saw that?” Yuuri just nodded. “Well, we’ll just have to work extra hard, so we can beat it. That means lots of practice!” Victor sat in the empty seat next to Yuuri, lowering his voice a little so he wouldn’t be shouting anymore. “Can I have your number, so we can meet up for practice and such?”
He caught Chris’ exasperated expression in the corner of his eye, but he ignored it. Victor has never been one for subtle or slick, and he knows it.
“Um, sure?” Yuuri’s shoulders drew up, but he had accepted! Victor finally released one of Yuuri’s hands to reach around to grab his phone. “Here, just put it in.” He pulled up a new contact and passed it to Yuuri, who put his name and his number. “Can I take a picture of you for the icon? It’s okay if not, I just like to have icons because I have a bad memory.” Victor lied through his teeth. He doesn’t have icon pictures for any of his contacts but Chris, and that was just because Chris was a dumb picture that he had set to tease Chris.
Yuuri, however, didn’t know he was lying through his teeth. He just blushed, and nodded. “If… If you want to, I guess? But only if I can get one of you for mine.”
“Of course!” Victor pulled up the camera for his phone, taking a quick picture. The lighting was awful, but now he had a cute picture of Yuuri so lighting be damned. He sent Yuuri a text so he’d have his number to add as a contact, and let Yuuri take a picture of him (which he may or may not have winked in).
After that, Phichit called for everyone’s attention, and work began.
Day 11: The dance. It was the 11th day of practice, 6 weeks since auditions, and Victor was living. He and Yuuri had been texting, and before and after each practice they’d been talking. Victor had yet to get Yuuri away from school to… Practice. But he was trying.
But every conversation they had was wonderful. Yuuri was an amazing person, and just as cute as Victor had thought he would be. PLUS he was an amazing actor, and Victor’s crush was just getting bigger and bigger with every message. He’d had to refrain himself from sending hearts the other day. It’s too much.
Of course, it was only going to get worse for his heart today. He had been both dreading and awaiting this day of practice since he realized. He and Yuuri are going to practice the ball dance today. After 6 weeks, he was finally going to get to dance with Yuuri.
So of course Victor had arrived to practice beaming, ready to go. And now Phichit was talking with Ms. Green about the scene in question as Yuuri and he waited on stage.
“Hey Yuuri, follow my lead?” He whispered, tired of waiting and ready to finally do one of the things he had been anticipating the most in the past few weeks.
Yuuri, of course, gave him a slightly puzzled look, used to Victor’s usual attentive behavior during rehearsals. But he nodded nonetheless, and took Victor’s hand when he offered it. Slowly, Victor pulled him closer until their bodies were almost touching, but not quite. Even with the distance however, they had never been so close before, and Victor reveled in it.
“Dance isn’t something you can discuss.” He whispered into the small space between them. Yuuri nodded, his brows furrowing a little.
“Sometimes you just have to feel it.” Victor smiled, and rested a hand on Yuuri’s waist. Finally, Yuuri seemed to realize what he was doing, a small grin softening his features as he placed a hand gently on Victor’s shoulder.
And they began to dance with no music, and the Victor’s world narrowed to the one point where Yuuri was.
He could hear the music in his head as he took the lead, dancing slowly across the stage with Yuuri. Victor smiled brightly as Yuuri laughed when Victor’s silent instructions hadn’t been enough, resulting in Victor trying to spin Yuuri and ending up being spun himself. They sped up as they danced on, at points Victor giving the control to Yuuri and letting himself be spun and moved, dipped and twirled, then taking it back and lifting Yuuri as they both reached their limits, breaths coming out heavily. Once he set Yuuri down, both of them fell to the floor, leaning on each other and laughing.
Victor felt elated, his hand still tangled with Yuuri’s as they both sat there, trying to catch their breath. They both startled when Phichit’s voice called out.
“That was amazing, you two! Spectacular! Beautiful! Do you think you could do that for the performances?”
Victor rubbed the back of his neck, a slightly embarrassed smile spreading across his face. “I guess? Maybe Yuuri and I could choreograph something for it, do you think, Yuuri?” He turned to him, only to see Yuuri curled in on himself, his breathing as fast as it had been they had stopped dancing, but he should have been able to catch it by now, shouldn’t he? “Yuuri?” He asked, resting a hand gently on Yuuri’s shoulder, which caused Yuuri to flinch. He withdrew, wide eyes looking up at Phichit and Ms. Green in confusion.
“Oh shit.” Phichit breathed out, running up the stairs and over to them. In a very soft voice he asked, “Victor, I need you to scoot back, okay?” Victor just nodded and did as asked, watching as Phichit sat on the floor next to Yuuri, leaning over to whisper something to him without touching him. Yuuri nodded his head slightly, barely visible, and Phicht rested a hand on his shoulder, helping him stand. Victor watched helplessly as Phichit led Yuuri off the stage and to the back of the room. As Ms. Green called for everyone’s attention, telling them to run some lines with others in their scenes, he caught sight of Yuuri’s face, covered in tears, and his whole body shaking as Phichit whispered something to him.
After a while of running lines with Sara, Ms. Green called out saying that practice was over for the day. Immediately, Victor ran over to Phichit, afraid to go over to Yuuri, who was still sat in the back of the auditorium, legs pulled up to his chest and watching the people on stage.
“Phichit,” Victor said, reaching out a hand to set it on Phichit’s shoulder before pulling back. “Is Yuuri okay?”
Phichit sighed, but nodded. “He is. He was just… a bit overwhelmed. I can’t explain much under best friend law, but he’ll be fine.” He smiled tightly up at Victor. “Don’t worry too much. It wasn’t anything you did, and he’s fine, I promise.”
Victor nodded, looking at the floor before glancing back at Yuuri again. Their eyes met and Victor gave him a small wave, which Yuuri returned, sort of, by lifting his fingers. But Victor smiled at him and went to gather his stuff.
When he got home, he looked at his phone to see a message from Yuuri.
I’m so sorry.
Victor squinted at the screen for a good five minutes, trying to decipher what Yuuri could possibly be sorry for, when another text message popped up, followed by two more.
i… um. ok. this is kind of hard for me to say, but i know you well enough to know you’re blaming yourself for what happened at practice, and i don’t want you to worry or be mad at yourself.
i suffer from panic attacks sometimes, and that’s what happened earlier. i loved dancing with you, but a combination of breathlessness and the anxiety i get from being seen when i dance resulted in… well. you saw.
i’m okay now, i promise. i didn’t mean to flinch when you touched me, that’s just kind of reflex. i don’t generally like being touched when i’m having an attack, especially with no warning. if it happens again, just quietly tell me if you’re going to touch me and wait for confirmation, okay?
Victor set his phone down and moved to his computer, immediately googling everything he could about panic attacks. After an hour of research, he picked his phone back up, and typed up a reply.
thank you for explaining. i’m not going to lie when i say i was scared when i saw you were crying and i didn’t know why. i promise if it happens again, i’ll be more careful ^^; i looked up some stuff on panic attacks, so i should have a little better an idea now?? i had never heard of them before…
omg you looked them up?????
of course! i want to be able to help you if it happens again, i don’t want you to be sad or in pain
i’m literally screaming ok thanks
dfghj don’t scream!!
too late.
Victor laughed to himself, glad that Yuuri at least seemed to be feeling better now.
seriously though, thank you for trusting me enough to explain everything.
… always.
Day 22: Performances!! “Oh my GOD Yuuri! Can you believe that we have a performance TONIGHT?!”
Victor draped himself dramatically over Yuuri’s shoulder, to Yuuri’s apparent amusement. Since the day they danced, the two of them had grown a lot closer. Where before, Yuuri had been hesitant when Victor was near, and pulled away when Victor touched him, now he had grown accustomed to Victor’s casual touches, and his over-dramatic tendencies.
They had spent the last few weeks meeting up every weekend to work on their dance, wanting it to be as beautiful and as freeing as the first. They had both agreed to keep it secret until the performance, wanting to surprise the audience and the other actors and crew members, citing that they wanted the reactions on-stage to be genuine. But really, Victor’s motivation considerably more selfish, wanting to keep the dance Yuuri and he had had to himself for as long as possible.
But today was the day, and in a few hours their dance would be shared with everyone, no longer there for Victor to hoard for himself. That was okay, though. Because today, he had decided, would be the day he asked Yuuri to be his boyfriend. He had planned it all out. After the performance, he’ll grab Yuuri and pull him aside after they get their congratulations from the audience, and he’ll ask him there. And maybe, maybe if he is lucky, he’ll even kiss Yuuri. A real, true kiss.
“Victor get off, Phichit is trying to do my makeup.” Yuuri laughed, shoving his face playfully. “And you need to go get yours, too. There’s only an hour before showtime, you know.” Victor pulled himself off, and grabbed his own makeup, beginning to apply it himself.
“I know, but it feels so surreal! I can’t believe after tonight, you’ll no longer be my Cinderella. What if you find a new Prince Charming?” He half-joked.
“I could never replace you as my Prince, Victor.” Yuuri said quietly, his eyes shut while Phichit applied eyeshadow.
“Oh my God, Yuuri!” Phichit shouted, obviously delighted. “That was so cute!”
“Shut up, Phichit. Finish my makeup so I can get dressed.”
“But-”
“No.”
“Bu-”
“NO.”
Victor laughed at their banter, finishing his own makeup, a much more simple style than Yuuri’s. He grabbed his costume off the rack and went to change.
Then, it was showtime.
The play, for the most part, went off without a hitch. Of course, it was a live performance, so not everything was perfect. Victor almost knocked over a set piece, Sara dropped Yuuri’s glass slipper and almost ‘broke’ it, and someone came on too soon and had to improvise his way through it. But it was wonderful. Every scene Victor saw with Yuuri went wonderfully, even when someone forgot a line, Yuuri helped them get to it and he had his own lines memorized perfectly.
Once the curtains closed after the final scene and the applause sounded throughout the theater, the crew began moving set pieces back for bows, and Yuuri grabbed Victor’s wrist, dragging him to the back where they were to wait until it was their turn to bow, at the end.
“Victor,” Yuuri whispered at the sound of the curtains reopening, and the final song starting to play. “I need to ask you something.”
Now would be JJ, Michele, and Emil coming out to bow first.
“Yes?” Victor asked, furrowing his brow. Yuuri looked at the ground and fidgeted for a second. He reminded Victor of their audition together.
The applause died and began again. Seung-Gil and Sara, now.
“Will… Will you… Would you like to…”
Next was Otabek, another freshman, and Chris.
“Will you be my boyfriend?”
Victor’s heart stopped, his jaw dropping and his eyes widening. This wasn’t happening. Yuuri had beat him to it. He couldn’t help it, he laughed a little.
Unfortunately, Yuuri seemed to take it the wrong way.
“Oh- I’m- I’m sorry, that was so ridiculous of me. Of course you don’t.” He took a step back, taking a shuddering breath.
“No no no.” Victor gasped, reaching out and pulling Yuuri back, pulling him closer than before and leaning down to whisper to him. “You misunderstand, Yuuri. I was going to ask you the same thing after bows.” He smiled.
Yuuri blinked at him, confusion taking over his face before realization beat it out. “Oh my God.” He giggled. “Oh God.”
Victor hugged him. “You beat me to it.” He laughed, squeezing Yuuri tighter when he felt Yuuri returning his hug. “I would love to be your boyfriend, Yuuri, if you will have me.” Yuuri nodded against his chest and they both laughed again.
Victor took a quick glance out to who was bowing now.
Leo and Guang Hong. Only one more group.
“Yuuri, do you trust me?”
Georgi bowed. They were up.
“Of course.”
Victor pulled back and smiled, then they stepped onto the stage.
The lights were blinding, the applause thunderous. But Victor’s attention was on Yuuri, and Yuuri’s on Victor. Yuuri smiled at him, and Victor couldn’t wait another second.
He lifted a hand, placing it gently on Yuuri’s cheek and leaned in. Yuuri’s eyes widened, he took in a deep breath, but then he relaxed, and he met Victor halfway.
Their first kiss was spectacular. Under the warm stage lights, with the crowd in front of them and the rest of the cast behind them, as the last few notes of the song drew the production to a close. When they finally pulled apart, Victor drew Yuuri into a hug, laughing and whispering in his ear, "This was a much better production than ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.“ And Yuuri laughed his bright laughter, as they pulled apart to take a bow with the rest of the cast.
And the curtains shut, and the show was over.
