Hello! So I understand that in the Iliad and Odyssey Helios is the sun, and Apollo’s “sun” correlations were a later addition (I think?). I believe this happened with Artemis as well so what exactly are Leto’s twins the gods of during the Iliad and Odyssey? Do they have some of those connections in Homer (like with Apollo’s primary epithet being Phoebus which I believe is “Shining”?). But yeah! What exactly are Artemis and Apollo’s domains in homer?
Thank you :D
Hello there!
That is a very good question. I believe one must forget the idea that the gods of the greeks are correlated with only one thing. The religion is not cut-clean as "Helios=Sun therefore Apollo=something else". The gods had many attributes and those were used interchangably and sometimes with correlation to other gods. Sometimes they were even co-worshipped.
Either way though one can make a small separation here. Helios is the literal sun (which is what the name means after all) aka the sun itself. Apollo is a solar deity. He is a god of the sun not the sun himself. Likewise Artemis is a lunar deity but not the moon itself, which is Selene etc. and even that is not cut-clean always like that.
For Apollo as you know he is already referenced in first Rhapsody of the Iliad as his priest Chryses got offended and prayed for justice. Apollo smites the greeks for 9 days with a plague (see also my analysis on that plague) so we have the attribute of Apollo as god of plagues and diseases. They also more-often whatnot call him "the one who aims from afar" speaking on his archery skill. We also see him as the god of prophecies via the myths of Cassandra among others. That is also backed up by the homeric hymns that date roughly at the same period as the homeric poems. He is also referred to as "fair haired" aka "blonde" which can be an indicator of his solar attribute. He is also seen with his attribute as the god of music when he plays his lyre at the feast of the gods.
The name "Phoebus" is very much used in both the Iliad and the Odyssey. We see the term already in Rhapsody 1 in Iliad. His association with gold is also important here so his association with light is always apparent.
Artemis also is mentioned for her skills in archery and her association with hunting and wilderness but also for her healing abilities (see Rhapsody 5 in Iliad) she is also associated with youth and love for play in nature as well with the vengeance against Niobe. Odysseus also compares Nausicaa's beauty with Artemis in Odyssey which again associates her with youth and virginity.
What I find ironic is that Apollo is said to have silver shafts in the homeric poems while Artemis has golden!
So in conclusion I think both the twins have a full set of attributes and powers in the homeric poems but the most explored ones are their talents in archery as well as Apollo's attribute with disease, prophets and muic while Artemis wilderness, play in nature and maidenhood. I would say their attributes for sun and moon are mostly hinted here by the color of their hair (both are called fair-haired) as well as Apollo's epithet "Phebus" and Artemis's beauty (often associated with beauty of the moon)
I hope that makes sense. Thank you very much for the question
Also what a strange coincidence you asked me that for recently my friend @artsofmetamoor released two AMAZING sketches for an AU that is based on greek mythology and the characters she released are associated with Artemis and Apollo! XD

So I've seen a lot of people talk about their whump awakening lately, and there has been a lot of goods one mentioned, but one I haven't seen anyone talk about is Hunchback of Notre Dame! When Phebus gets shot with the arrow while fleeing after saving that family from the fire, the way he fell into the water and had to be dragged out by Esmeralda. And we get a care scene where she stitches him up! My first ever whumperflies. Little me hit rewind so many times on that scene that I wore the tape out. I can't be the only one.

The ones in-between
Or, in Descendants, all the kids who were nor considered Villains/Heroes but not part of the VKs/HKs we saw either.
I’ll explain. You know all those characters we know exist because they were in sequels, series, or in the background of the main stories? The ones old enough to remember how things were before Auradon was founded, the ones sent to the Isle even if they were children? The firsborns of Heroes who are too old to fit in with Ben’s age group? Those ones, who we assume must be part of the Descendants Universe, but we have no info about.
Now, I want to compile a list and I’d love for help from the fandom. So I’ll put here the ones I thought about and you can add the ones you remember in the notes (or PM me) so I can update this post with all the additions and make this a masterpost for everyone to rely on for fics.
I’m talking about only and exclusively about characters that appeared in Disney materials, not OCs. Please don’t send OCs, they don’t fit in this list and I’m not interested in them here. People mentioned in the Descendants extra materials (the books, game and so on) won’t be counted either. I have yet to decide if we should consider the main characters of the new movies (Miguel Rivera, the Madrigal children, Luca and Alberto, Mei Lee...) in this list, but I think it’d be better if we didn’t, as those stories can take place anytime in the Auradon history as most of them don’t have actual Villains.
Auradon:
Chip Potts (although some assume he’s the driver sent to get the Rotten Four)
Hamish, Hubert and Harris (Merida’s brothers)
Ralphie of Maldonia (Naveen’s brother)
Zephir de Chateaupers (Esmeralda and Phebus’ son)
Melody (Ariel and Eric’s daughter)
Jane and Danny (Wendy’s children)
Amber Dearly (Anita’s niece)
Ranjan (Mowgli’s adoptive brother)
Chaka, Tipo and Yupi (Pacha’s children)
Penny and Cody (from The Rescuers I and II)
Kiera and Catalina (Angry and Red, from the Tangled series)
Dhandi (Eden’s sort-of adopted child, from the Aladdin series)
Elisa (niece of Fairy Godmother, from extra books)
Max (Charlotte LaBouff’s cousin, also from extra books)
Jenna, Rafi and Salima (Aladdin and Jasmine sort-of adopted kids, also from books)
Glauco (Snow White’s son, from some old comics. like 1939 old)
Isle of the Lost:
Ivy and Hunter de Vil (Cruella’s niblings, from the series)
Lucignolo (Lampwick, from Pinocchio, I refuse to use the americanized name here) and the donkey boys
Varian (from Tangled the series)
Zim and Zam (Yzma’s nephews from the series Emperor’s New School)
EDIT: added a few more names, thanks to @descendants-extended

              liam charmont.
despite being only twenty-six liam’s so damn tired. he’s considered golden. the perfect child but even perfect has it’s cracks. he’s known to put the weight of the world on his shoulders, taking his job as future king all too seriously. most would look at liam and think he’s a stick in the mud but underneath his regal and calm exterior he is philip and aurora’s son. he’s a hopeless romantic, albeit he’s a realist which separates him from his family. while they all seem to live in a fantasy where nothing can go wrong, liam is stuck in reality. he may be easy-going and kind but liam has a terrible temper. it’s hard to get liam to a point where he’s vicious but it’s not uncommon. he’s gotten into fights because of his temper. in recent months he’s chosen his own happiness and freedom. whether that makes him the villain in certain people’s eyes he doesn’t care anymore. liam’s allowed the institution to take so much from him and he won’t allow it anymore.
