who is annette spinner? 👀🫶🏻
!!!
i’m SO glad you asked!
(also, sorry for the spam; i was thinking abt her and going through her tag, & it was so empty i was like: oh. well. i think i’ve seen some fitting reblogs from cory before… xD)
anyway!!
annette “nett” spinner (fake name! or—well. not fake, exactly, but not the one she was given as a child; she hasn’t seen fit to share that w me yet) is a deeply beloved oc of mine <3 a sort of black widow with a strict moral code—she kills those with power who abuse it and those under them.
she’s known as the ‘Heart Eater’ (i’m both attached & not attached to that name; it could change). originally this was bc she often left her victims trussed up with a heart in their mouths—like a pig with an apple—but lately i’ve been considering that maybe she can do a little light cannibalism. as a treat.
naturally, she has dark brown/black hair & brown eyes. however, she’s rarely ever without a wig; usually bright & garishly colored. she favors pink, but the whole rainbow exists in her closet. she’s also almost always in colored contacts, wearing dramatic make-up, etc.
both bc she likes it and for obscuring identity reasons!
big sunglasses are another favorite wardrobe piece xD
she’s mean. sharp, cold, cutting, petty, even callous or cruel. she can be, and is, soft when the situation calls for it, or when someone needs it but mostly… she’s vicious. <3333 she’s also bad at & avoids emotional situations if she can, lol.
mmm…
more about her:
she was 15 when she killed for the first time! it was her father <3 she killed the second time about… 6-7 months later? and after that she just. decided there was a need for it.
has a toxic relationship w/ another criminal. not sure exactly what he does, only that he’s on a similar level of infamy. they’ve tried to kill each other multiple times and almost always betray each other. does she love him? no. but he makes her feel something, so she keeps going back.
she loves to play the piano.
she has a knife collection, some of which are purely decorative.
she’s bi!
i called her a black widow before, but i don’t think she often has sex w/ those she kills—though there’s definitely seduction involved with some of them.
if they’re rich she steals at least some of their money, too <3
she rarely ever plans for the future. unless a hit requires it, she doesn’t think much more than a week ahead.
i may change her surname from “spinner” to “weaver”
not a fact abt her per se, but of my character playlists—fandom or not—hers has the most songs on it <3
#she’s an assassin she’s a hired killer she’s a vigilante#mostly she’s just an unrepentant murderer#i wish i had like. a defined plot for her. i have some vague ideas but not enough to work with#also haven’t picked a genre/setting tho i lean scifi#near futurish. maybe cyberpunk-esque?#also! i had to retype 3/4ths of this post bc my phone slipped in my hand and then it was? gone#thank u for asking!#asks and answers#felinemotif#annette spinner#heart eater

What do you think about idea of "Saltinette" existing in-universe as Jeanette's "derogatory nickname" due to her b*tchy and petty attitude (technically, it's "Salty Nette", but some people shorten this to "Saltinette")?
That sounds great.

i love lovesquare and luka/nette and mari/gami and fei/nette and all marinette ships, but —
marinette and luka are my endgame. adrichat is incredible partner and friend, but I like the idea of them trying to be together and realizing they are more platonic soulmates than a couple. adrien needs to find himself and marinette need someone who can offer her emotional stability. she also needs to come down to earth and stop projecting ideals onto adrien.
maybe as adri/nette get to know each other better this season, my opinion will change. but I’ve always seen them as very intimate friends. I ship then, too, yes. but they just don’t feel longterm to me.
like, “We tried and tried. Time and time again. And we had something, but it wasn’t the right something.”
I guess, to me, Marinette’s only ever been close to akumatization because of Adrien. In some ways, it’s like their relationship brings out the worst in her. She gets petty and mean and possessive. And yes, Marinette is very flawed. But I don’t see her growing with Adrien in the ways she needs to.
I love her dynamic with Adrien really. I just, from a writing standpoint, struggle to see its progress. For the longest time it’s been her pining and we’ve gone full 180 to mutual dating. So I’m hesitant, but optimistic. I think they have good chemistry, but I hope she finds her footing. It’s been really bothering me that he flaws never get addressed other than her blind decision-making to always gravitate to Adrien.

From the Liar’s Mouth
Disclaimer: I don’t own ML.
Summary: “If you want to take down Lila, you have to play the long game,” Kagami says. “That means winning over your classmates. You’ve tried the direct approach and where has that gotten you?”
Who would've thought that Kagami's advice would not only let Marinette tolerate Lila's existence, but also land her both a boyfriend and a girlfriend?
AO3 link
“…and I just don’t get how Mr Damocles could believe her like that!” Marinette waves her hands around, nearly spilling her orange juice all over the table. “A condition that makes her lie? There’s no such thing! And I don’t want to go into “you need official proof of your disability to be believed” territory, but with as many conditions as she says she has? Why hasn’t anyone called her mother and asked for everything they should know to accommodate her? Especially when I needed, like, ten pieces of paper just to prove to them that I’m autistic!”
Across from her, Kagami just smiles and takes a sip of juice. Why is Kagami smiling at a time like this? This is a disaster! Lila gets off scot-free, with an even more iron-clad excuse for lying, and Adrien is Kagami’s friend too, right? Why isn’t Kagami worried for him?
“How can you smile when she’s just gotten away with it again?” Marinette bursts out. “Especially after how she hurt you with that picture of her kissing Adrien?”
“I’m going to choose to take your statement as worry for me after what Lila did to me and not an accusation, since I know you meant the former,” Kagami says rather calmly. “And if you would stop allowing your contempt for Lila to cloud you, you would see that she’s just handed you victory on a silver platter.”
“Me? She’s the one who gets to lie about everything!” Marinette says.
“Exactly,” Kagami says. “She supposedly has a condition that makes her lie uncontrollably. You have an admission that she’s a liar from the horse’s mouth. How long will it take before people start to doubt her word? And they will hear about her condition. Mr Damocles will have to inform Ms Bustier, so there’s no chance that the rest of the class won’t find out.”
“And if Lila somehow manages to keep it from them?” Marinette says. Kagami’s smile widens into something that a predator might give their prey before going for the jugular.
“Whether or not she keeps it from them, she’s backed herself into a corner,” Kagami says. “Now is the time for calmness, Marinette. Fall back and strategise. First of all, you have to ingratiate yourself with your classmates again.”
“Ingratiate myself with them?” Marinette scowls and takes a violent swig of juice. “After they doubted me and shoved me to the back and – and treated me like –”
“If you want to take down Lila, you have to play the long game,” Kagami says. “That means winning over your classmates. You’ve tried the direct approach and where has that gotten you?”
“I know, I know,” Marinette sighs. “Just…all that’s necessary for evil to triumph is that good people do nothing.”
“You won’t be doing nothing,” Kagami says. “Doing nothing would involve shrugging and writing your classmates off as a lost cause, allowing Lila to have them. That’s not what you’re doing. You’re falling back and searching for another angle of attack, just as Ladybug and Chat Noir would temporarily retreat from a battle to find another way to attack the akuma. To achieve your ultimate goal, sometimes you have to accept a few losses.”
Marinette stares. How…how has she never thought of it that way? “God, why didn’t I talk to you before?” she says. Kagami’s lips twitch.
“Because we weren’t friends before,” she says. “Now, here’s the plan to take Lila down. I do warn you, though, it involves playing nice with her.”
With a groan, Marinette thumps her head on the table. “It’s not like I can do anything else,” she mumbles into the wood. “Fine. What’s the plan, Kagami?”
.
“Alright,” Marinette sighs, staring at the school building looming over her like a gigantic akuma. “You can do this.”
“It’s okay to be nervous!” Tikki says. “After being expelled yesterday, I’d feel nervous about facing my classmates too!”
“It’s not just that,” Marinette says. “I…have to be nice to Lila. I have to sit there and let her lie and just smile along with it!”
“Well, Kagami did have a point,” Tikki says. “The direct approach isn’t getting you anywhere. All you can really do now is let her lie herself into a corner.”
“Which is what Adrien told me to do. Bet he didn’t think I’d get expelled over it.”
“Adrien didn’t think she was much of a threat. You’re coming from a completely different angle, Marinette! You’re taking the active approach to letting her hang herself.”
“True…” Marinette squares her shoulders and marches through the school gates. “I can do this! I’m strong! I’m confident! I’m Marinette!”
“That’s the spirit!” Tikki cheers.
Marinette’s burst of confidence lasts right until she’s outside the classroom door, where Lila’s holding court with her loud lies about hanging out with Clara Nightingale or something like that. She gulps and clenches her fists. Nope. She can’t do this. She can’t face them. She can’t stand there and look at Lila’s smug little smirk and feel like she’s letting Lila get away with this –
Something bats against her thigh. It’s Tikki, still inside her purse, who looks up and gives her a reassuring little smile. Marinette swallows, then nods and pushes the classroom door open. Almost as though she’s walking to the gallows, every single classmate falls silent and turns to stare at her.
Fantastic. Everyday Ladybug, her arse.
“Oh, Marinette!” Lila clasps her hands to her chest. “I’m so happy to see you’re back! I’m so awfully sorry, I didn’t mean to get you expelled!”
“It wasn’t your fault, Lila!” Kim says. “You can’t help your condition!”
Ah. So, Lila has told them about her supposed condition. That makes Marinette’s job a lot easier. She pastes on a smile and tilts her head.
“I’m so sorry, Lila,” she forces herself to chirp. “I had no idea about your condition! I just really hate liars, see, and I saw you as a threat to my friends, and I’m so used to protecting them from Chloé. If I’d known that you couldn’t help it…”
“Wow, thanks,” Chloé drawls. Something flashes in Lila’s eyes, too fast for anyone else to see.
“You were just worried for us?” Rose rushes over and throws her arms around Marinette. “Oh, that’s so sweet of you, Marinette! It’s so good that you’re apologising!”
“Yes, Marinette, thank you for your apology,” Lila says with a tight-lipped smile. “I completely understand your reaction. And it’s so noble that you were just trying to protect your friends.”
With that, something in the atmosphere seems to shift, like Lila’s welcomed Marinette into the fold and her classmates have once again accepted her. It takes every little shred of willpower to keep smiling and not go on the attack, but Marinette forces herself to take her seat and listen to Alya’s speech about coming to her senses and pushing her jealousy aside.
God, this sucks.
.
“…and she said, “Oh, Lila, I simply must make up a music video about you! You have to be in it!” But you guys know me, I simply can’t bear the attention –”
“That must have been so hard for you, Lila!” Marinette says. It’s been a week of this, a week of pretending that Lila’s a saint, and god, if she wasn’t doing this to avenge Kagami for the Oni-chan thing just as much as for herself, she’d have lost her shit by now. “After the song that Jagged Stone wrote about you, it must have been so tempting to let Clara Nightingale make a music video about you!”
“Oh, yes!” Max says. “You did mention that Jagged Stone had written a song about you, Lila!”
“Can’t hate attention that much, then,” Chloé scoffs. Although she cops a few glares, there are also a few quizzical looks aimed at Lila.
“Oh – well, a song is so different to a music video!” Lila says.
“Not really?” Nino says. “They’re both songs, dude. One’s just got visuals.”
“And Nino would know,” Marinette says. “He’s the best DJ and filmmaker around!”
“Dude!” Nino reaches back to fist-bump her. Next to him, Adrien’s watching Marinette with a furrowed brow, like he’s trying to figure out why Marinette’s been so chummy with her mortal enemy for the past week. But she’s not confiding in him after that photoshoot. She’s telling no one. No one apart from Kagami. The last thing she needs is for Lila to get wind of what’s going on, if she doesn’t already suspect it.
“Well…it just felt odd, you know?” Lila says. “Jagged wrote that song because I saved his kitten, but I haven’t really done anything for Clara!”
The class seems to accept that. But Marinette doesn’t miss how a few of them, like Nathaniel and Alix, stare at Lila with frowns even after Ms Bustier arrives and calls the class to order.
“Hey, Marinette, can I talk to you real quick?” Adrien says once class is over and they’re filing out. Marinette forces herself to smile.
“Sure!” she says. She hasn’t really spoken to Adrien since the photoshoot he’d done with Lila, more for his sake so that she doesn’t explode about colluding with the enemy, but maybe it’s time to clear the air between them and just…get it all out there. Keenly aware of Lila’s scorching glare on the back of her neck, she follows Adrien out of Ms Bustier’s classroom and to the locker room, which is thankfully empty since it’s lunchtime.
“Do you…believe Lila about her condition?” Adrien says once the locker room door is shut and they’re separated from the rest of the school. Marinette scoffs.
“Of course I don’t,” she says. “But Kagami told me –”
“Kagami? You’re friends with Kagami?”
Marinette stares. “Yeah…though I don’t know what that’s got to do with this.”
“Nothing. I just…always got the impression that you didn’t like each other.”
“Not at first. But we sorted it out. Anyway, she told me that I have to play along with Lila’s condition, make myself look innocent, and Lila will eventually lie herself into a corner.”
“Which is what I said when she got back here, didn’t I?” Adrien says. Marinette raises an eyebrow.
“No,” she says. “You said to just let her be. Kagami told me to push her into lying herself into something she can’t escape while being all nice about it.”
Adrien winces. “Right. Marinette…I’m really sorry. I thought Lila was just an attention seeker. If I’d known she was that dangerous…I shouldn’t have let you get expelled before doing anything.”
“Like having a photoshoot with her?” Marinette says. Her eyes widen seconds after those words slip out. “S-Sorry! I’m sorry! That was really rude –”
“No, no, you’ve got every right to feel hurt,” Adrien says. “I didn’t know what to say before, or I would’ve come to you days ago. I didn’t want to be in that photoshoot with her. I only agreed so that she’d tell another lie to get you un-expelled.”
“You –” Marinette’s eyes widen. Everything makes sense now! Why else would Lila care about undoing her damage? “That was you? You sold your soul for me?”
“Of course I did.” Adrien crosses his arms. “You’re my friend. And if I’d done something before now, you wouldn’t have been expelled. Or nearly akumatised!”
“Adrien –”
“Do you know how terrifying it was to see you with that Hawkmoth mask over your face?” Adrien’s green eyes seem to plead with her very soul to understand. “To watch our everyday Ladybug nearly get akumatised? You’re so – so strong, Marinette. You always manage to stay positive and figure out a solution to the problem. Seeing you about to give in to Hawkmoth…it didn’t hit me until then just how bad this Lila problem was.”
Her cheeks flaming with the blood that pours into them, Marinette looks down at the floor and tries to form a coherent sentence, both in her mind and out loud. But what comes out of her mouth is something that vaguely sounds like a strangled groan; certainly nothing resembling words.
“So long as Lila leaves you alone, I’ll put up with her,” Adrien says. “Think of it as my contribution to yours and Kagami’s plan. The inside man, right?” Then he winks. Dear god, how is Marinette still alive?
“I – um – you shouldn’t – it’s your body!” she manages to babble. Adrien’s volunteering to do this for her? “You shouldn’t have to put up with someone treating you like a living mannequin!”
“She’s going to do that anyway,” Adrien says. “Remember what happens whenever we call her out? I might as well make use of it. It’s the least I can do for letting it get this far.”
“Um – uh – if sure you – if you’re sure!” Marinette forces out. She clears her throat and straightens up. “But you have to detox with me and Kagami. If that won’t hurt your plan, of course…”
“It won’t,” Adrien says. He rests a hand on her shoulder and yep, Marinette is deceased right now. “Lila can’t stop me from hanging out with my friends. And the odd photoshoot here and there will keep her happy. All she wants is attention, so if I give it to her, she won’t see you coming.” With another wink as he slides his arm around her, he says, “I’ll be the Chat Noir to your Ladybug.”
Marinette groans and shoves him. “You’d better not pun like he does or I’m tattling to Kagami.”
“I make no pawmises,” Adrien says with a grin that makes him look scarily like Chat Noir.
“Nope. That’s it. Get out. I can’t be seen with you.”
.
“You know, I never thought you two would actually get along,” Adrien says. “What exactly were you two fighting about?”
“Oh, you know,” Kagami shrugs. “How we were both crushing on you and thought the other was the spawn of Satan.”
Marinette chokes on her mouthful of André’s mint and raspberry ice cream (why raspberry? Last time it had been peach. Oh, well). How can Kagami just…up and say that? Doesn’t she have any shame?
“Oh, is that all?” Adrien laughs and licks his strawberry choc-chip and blackberry ice cream. “I thought it was something serious.”
“We eventually figured out that we were just a couple of idiots and it wasn’t worth fighting over a boy!” Marinette says in a high-pitched voice. Well, Kagami’s outed her, so she may as well roll with it. Although for some reason, she’s not mad at Kagami like she’d be if Alya just went up and told Adrien about her crush; probably because Kagami had as much to lose as her if Adrien took it the wrong way. And Kagami might not even have realised that you shouldn’t just up and tell your crush that you like them, considering her previous lack of social skills every other time Marinette’s talked to her.
“Good,” Adrien says. “I hate it when my friends are fighting.”
The tension in Marinette’s shoulders starts to melt away like ice cream on a hot day. So…Adrien doesn’t hate her for crushing on him. He’s not even making a big deal out of it. That’s…actually a relief.
“So, um…” Marinette forces out. “Are anyone you crush, Adrien? I mean – are you crushing on anyone?”
Adrien stares at her, then laughs. “Is that why you act weird around me? Thank god. I was worried that you still secretly hated me for the gum thing.”
“No! Never!” Marinette shakes her head wildly.
“Sorry, the gum thing?” Kagami says.
“Chloé put gum on her seat on my first day and she thought I’d done it because I tried to take it off,” Adrien says. “I managed to catch her after school and explain the misunderstanding but…I thought she still hated me for it and was just putting up with me.”
“Try the exact opposite,” Marinette groans. Her face must be just as scarlet as Adrien’s ice cream at this point, but she’s not dying or being horrifically rejected, so that’s something at least. “You gave me your umbrella and boom, it was…l-love at first sight.”
Kagami actually laughs long and loud at that, even throwing her head back. It’s so unlike her that both Marinette and Adrien are rendered silent as they stare at her in awe.
“Um…wow,” Marinette eventually says. “Have you checked her ice cream for drugs or something?”
Kagami hiccups and shakily licks her scoop of bright pink dragonfruit ice cream that’s neatly cushioning the same mint as Marinette’s. What that could mean, Marinette has no idea.
“There must be an akuma around,” Adrien says.
“You’re both awful,” Kagami says, her shoulders shaking with the last of her laughter. “And you’re both oblivious. So, Adrien, who is this girl you’re in love with if it’s not Marinette? I was always under the impression that Marinette was your target.”
Adrien blushes. “Don’t laugh, okay?” he says. “I’m in love with Ladybug.”
Beep. Beep. Marinette.exe has crashed. Adrien’s…in love with her? But not her? But yes her, he just doesn’t know it?
“Ladybug?” Kagami says. “Of course you’d fall for a superhero. Adrien Agreste can’t do anything by halves.”
“Well, she picked me to be a hero and I utterly trashed that opportunity, so I’ve probably got no chance with her,” Adrien says. “Maybe I need to focus on people a little closer to me.”
“You didn’t trash that chance,” Marinette squeaks. “You did your best every single time.”
Adrien frowns at her. “Every single time? How do you know which Miraculous Ladybug gave me? I Second Chanced every time I was out in public, so no one should’ve known.”
Fuck. Fuckfuckfuckmissionabort –
“Hold on…” Also frowning, Kagami leans in so close that Marinette can count each freckle on her pale cheeks, and Marinette’s so flustered by Adrien tilting his head at her and Kagami’s breath ghosting across her face that she doesn’t realise what’s going on until Kagami’s moved her hair aside to expose her black earrings. Adrien’s frown changes into bulging eyes.
Fuck!
“Oh my god, really?” Adrien throws his free hand in the air. “Of course she’s you! Of course she’s you! How didn’t I see it before? The one girl who’s just as brave and kind as her and I didn’t even – I’m an idiot.”
“No arguments there,” Kagami says dryly. “Thank you for trusting me to be Ryuuko, by the way. And for the advice.”
Marinette’s brain has once again shut down. Two people know her secret identity. How could she be so stupid and let something like that slip? “You can’t tell anyone!” she finally manages to say. “My secret identity is vital!”
“I know,” Kagami sighs. “Hence why I can’t be Ryuuko again.”
“You think I don’t know that?” Adrien holds up his right hand to show the silver ring he’s always worn. Except…no way…could it be…it can’t…but…
“Oh my god.” Kagami pinches the bridge of her nose. “So, you’ve been in love with each other without even realising. This is like those awful soap operas that people seem to enjoy watching.”
“You and your stupid puns!” is the first thing out of Marinette’s mouth when she’s finally able to speak again. “All this time! You’re such a – such a dork!”
“I know!” Adrien looks like the cat that got the cream. “But you secretly love my puns, milady.”
That nickname coming from Adrien’s mouth? Stuff Marinette in a coffin right damn now. “As if,” she scoffs. “They’re awful.”
“Don’t you mean –”
“No!” Marinette and Kagami shout.
“– clawful?”
“I’ve changed my mind,” Marinette says. “You can have him, Kagami.”
“You claimed him first,” Kagami says. “He’s all yours.”
“How about we just forget about him and date each other?” Marinette wrinkles her nose.
“Sounds like a plan, Marinette.”
“Hey!” Adrien whines.
.
“It was so cool of you to organise this picnic for Lila, girl!” Alya says. She nudges Lila. “Right?”
Lila’s smile is thin and sour, like someone’s replaced the lemon tart on her plate with an actual lemon. “Yes, Alya. It’s very considerate of Marinette.”
“I just wanted to make up for our rough start!” Marinette says. It’s kind of funny how she’s just naturally slipped into being as sugary sweet to Lila as possible, but after seeing how it annoys Lila to no end that she can’t actually retaliate without looking bad, it’s gotten easier over the past few weeks. Huh. She so owes Kagami a massive box of pastries for this.
“Hey, guys!” Adrien waves as he approaches with Kagami. Lila gasps and smiles brilliantly.
“Adrien! You made it to my picnic!” she says.
“Of course I did,” Adrien says and sits down next to Marinette, pulling her to lean against him. Thank god she’s been able to equate Adrien and Chat Noir in her mind since their outing to get ice cream; now, when he touches her, her cheeks only grow warm and her brain thankfully doesn’t turn to mush. “And I brought a friend, if that’s okay?”
“Lila, right?” Kagami says with a smile that’s all teeth as she also sits down and pulls Marinette’s legs into her lap. “My name is Kagami. Adrien’s told me so much about you.”
“He has?” Lila smiles at Adrien, though Marinette’s certain that she can see a wariness beneath that smile. “All good things, I hope.”
“Trust me, I’ve heard nothing but the best information from him,” Kagami says. “I’m so glad that he’s found a girlfriend he’s really close with.”
“Girlfriend?” Alya scoffs. “Lila’s just a friend. You must’ve heard wrong or something.”
“Yes, of course,” Kagami says. “Sorry for my presumption. After that photo you took with him and the photoshoots…well, I seem to have gotten the wrong idea.”
“Lila told me once that Adrien would be hers, so I don’t blame you,” Marinette says and passes Kagami a plate of macarons. Kagami eagerly selects a strawberry one.
“Oh! I meant to say that he’d be my friend!” Lila says. Marinette covers her mouth to conceal her smirk.
“Really? I’m sorry for misunderstanding!” she says. “What with your condition and all…now it makes sense. I was a little confused what you meant by that, since you can’t really own a person, and I suppose that must have added to my bad feelings.” With a sweet smile, she adds, “But we’re friends now, so no harm done!”
“Yes,” Lila says. “Friends…”
“You’re so stiff!” Marinette says to Kagami, pulling her down so that she’s snuggling against Marinette’s side. “This picnic is all about relaxing!”
“In that case…” Adrien heaves so that Marinette’s sitting in his lap, and she shuffles around to lean back against his chest so that Kagami can lie across her thighs. Now Lila looks like she’s swallowed nails, while Alya’s eyes are bulging at the sight of her ship snuggling.
“Excuse me, girl, but when did this happen?” Alya says.
“A few weeks ago,” Marinette says. “Kagami and I ended up spilling to Adrien. Now we’re all good friends!”
Yeah. Very good friends. But the others don’t need to know that, especially since Marinette and Adrien are not only going slow with figuring out what’s between them, but Marinette’s also been unable to get the memory of Kagami’s breath across her face out of her head.
Oh, well. Such is life. And if navigating the prehistoric days of having both a girlfriend and a boyfriend is currently occupying her mind more than Lila, well, Marinette counts that as a win.
“I’m so happy for you!” Lila says with a wide, plastic smile. “And a little envious, I must say. After the drama with my boyfriend in Germany –”
“Mhm,” Alya says. “Not the one in Argentina?”
“Oh – no, this is a different one –” Lila splutters. Alya just shrugs and turns to offer the croissant plate to Rose and Juleka.
Okay. So, Kagami may have been right about this one. Sure, Lila might have thought that she was giving herself a free pass with her “condition”, but now no one really takes her seriously anymore. No one hates her or anything but, well…no one really seems to believe her or care about what she says either. Probably because every word out of her mouth is about her, and people are finally starting to realise that a) she doesn’t actually talk about anything else and b) her promises still haven’t come to fruition.
It does mean that no one’s actually apologised to Marinette, but oh well. C’est la vie. At least they’re not treating her like the devil anymore. And Lila’s largely harmless now, so that’s something as well. She can’t exactly get akumatised once a week or whatever as well; not without drawing undue attention to herself, since even Chloé hasn’t been akumatised more than three times, if one counts Heroes’ Day.
“Your parents’ pastries are magical,” Kagami says, reaching for a blueberry muffin. “They could melt even my mother.”
“My father would probably demand I marry her instantly,” Adrien snorts. “Not just for the pastries, but for her talent. “Snatch her up before Audrey Bourgeois, son!” he’d say if he actually spoke to me more than once a year.” He makes a face.
“You’ll have to defeat me for Marinette’s hand,” Kagami says dryly. Adrien smirks and boops her on the nose.
“Fatality,” he says, and Marinette snorts.
“You know what?” Alya throws her hands up. “I give up. I don’t understand you weirdoes. I’m gonna go find Nino and leave you three to be…whatever you three are.”
“Bye, Alya!” Marinette, Adrien, and Kagami chorus at her back. Now they’re left with Lila, who checks to make sure that no one’s looking before snarling at them.
“What are you three up to?” she hisses.
“What do you mean?” Adrien says. “I realised that I liked both Marinette and Kagami, and they liked me too.”
“And each other,” Marinette says, running her fingers through Kagami’s silky, dark hair.
“Why are you being so nice?” Lila jabs a finger at Marinette. “You hate me! And I know Kagami does too! Adrien, you’re supposed to be my –”
“Your friend?” Adrien says. “Of course I am, Lila. I did say that before our photoshoot, didn’t I?”
Marinette smiles at Lila, sugary sweet, not even finding satisfaction in how Lila’s bottom lip juts out and quivers like she’s going to throw a fit. Maybe the Marinette of a few weeks ago would have, but now? Honestly, she just pities Lila. Marinette’s the one with a boyfriend and a girlfriend, and she and Kagami are the ones that Adrien likes. So, she reaches over to pick up the plate of macarons and holds it out to Lila.
“Want a macaron, friend?” she chirps.

The funny thing is that Luka is completely in character in the NY special. Even knowing they're "actually dating" I still look at him and go: Yes. This simp is consistent with his previous characterization, lol.

100% truth right here
I don't understand why writers and some fans are so against Marinette letting out her emotions? It's not healthy to bottle everything up. Sure, Saltinett is a bit OOC, but it is amusing and imo, with how the writers treat Marinette, something I want to see. Kindness is great and so all, but sometimes the line between being kind and being passive/dumb is very thin. Marinette always stand up for others, why is she not allowed to stand up for herself?
Bc to the writers, Marinette being emotional is a major character flaw. If she’s upset, she’s wrong. If she’s happy, she’s wrong. If she makes mistakes and apologizes for them, she’s still wrong. Cut her some slack? Not a chance.
There’s nothing wrong in being emotional.
Being emotional does not equal being weak. Even the strongest people can have moments where they falter, where they have a breakdown, where they feel at their lowest. It’s normal to experience them.
Marinette is kind, compassionate and forgiving.
However, are people saying kind, compassionate and forgiving people are not allowed to feel upset and frustrated from time to time?
Should kind, compassionate and forgiving people bottle up all their feelings, endure everything thrown their way and act as if everything is normal?
While Saltinette AU is created after Chameleon aired, it’s a mistake to assume its existence is due to the events of a single episode. The AU exists bc people are tired of the way the show treat Marinette for the past two seasons. We are in S3 and Marinette still end up being treated like shit? Enough is enough.
(One can argue that people are judging the season too early but considering the show’s track record, is it really shocking if people don’t have much trust?)
For those who haven’t read @miraculouscontent‘s excellent discussion on the show’s treatment of Marinette, read this and this. The discussions are long but they are worthy of your time, I promise.
Now, I understand if people have issues with the characterization but LISTEN, salt fics are called salt fics for a reason. Just like the people who write salt posts, people who write salt fics have one goal in mind: to vent.
You know what happens when you are allowed to vent?
You feel better.
In conclusion, if people want to use Marinette to write out their frustrations because the show doesn’t seem to care about the way they treat their protagonist, what’s the big deal?
Don’t be the fun police.

A Failed Betrothal /Betrothal AU: Take Two
So here is the second part of the betrothal AU that I decided to name "A Failed Betrothal. This takes place before Part 1 which in hindsight should have been done first. Part 2 got too long so I cut it and started Part 3. I have no idea and nothing planned on how long this will go. Hope you enjoy ❤.
[Masterlist]
(Part 1)
PART 2
Marinette also wasn't having a good day or a good week.
Lila Rossi had been up to her usual tricks. You know, spewing lies from her mouth. How she met these awesome celebrities during this trip and they worship the ground she walks on for her amazing and humbling help. There were stories of these charities, trips and galas that she had been to or was invited to. She has problems with her wrists and can't do simple stuff like carry her own bag or do her homework. She has tinnitus in her ears so she needs to sit in the front where the only seat available would be next to Adrien.
And for the finale.
The desert after feeding the class a banquet of lies.
"Mari...nette..has been bullying me, she...told..me not to tell anyone..*sobs*..that she would kill me if I did.."
Lila dramatically gasped and slapped her hands over her mouth. Turning on the waterworks for a more dramatic effect. They all ate it up, jumping on the ‘let’s hate Marinette, a bad person’ train.
"She is going to kill me now and I am so scared." That snake managed to snuck an evil smirk past her glaring, oblivious classmates.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marinette, at this point of her life, had frankly given up caring for them due to the class's lack of brain cells and Agreste's spineless 'High Road' Approach.
For Kwami's sake, she went through a brutal torture that was training in some jungle temple in Asia before Sabine Cheng, former mercenary/assassin, kidnapped her (Little Marinette took a risk. She ran away and followed her around until Sabine begrudgingly accepted that she was now the 6- year-old girl's mother because screw it, Tom said he wanted children.) to raise/train as her own while she settled down with a baker whose mother may or may not have ties with the Mafia and other illegal activities.
(Mother-daughter bonding days became much more fun once she had Guardianship of the Miraculous. Sabine was ,at first, furious at Master Fu for dumping everything on the girl and losing his memories before swearing to help protect the jewels. Adopted or not, Marinette is her daughter and no one should let a child, even one with training, fight a war. A good thing to come out of her reveal was that her mother was a great tiger to have as back-up. But now, her training regime had become harder and challenging.)
The point was that Lila Rossi would be dead and body missing since that first time she threatened Marinette in the bathroom. The Italian was in perfect health despite what she claims otherwise, because Marinette didn’t want to be the person she was raised to be and also she didn’t want to disappoint Tikki, she was fond of the little red kwami. But sometimes, she just wanted to give into the urge to kill.
She had met and dealt with unsavory characters of all types and she can safely say that Lila Rossi was a manipulator that thrives on attention and like a parasite, latches herself onto the fame of others. None of the unsavory people she had met get under her skin like Rossi had.
Marinette had enough self-preservation to drop the nice girl act and sometimes let the dragon underneath to surface. She stopped doing last-minute favors and giving away free stuff which Lila uses to her full advantage to further destroy her relationships with her ‘friends’. It was better than sticking her neck out for classmates that were no longer worth her time. Attempts to expose Lila had backfired due to the denial they are in, believing the liar to be a sweet, nice girl living the high life.
Adrien with his rose-tinted glasses firmly stuck to his eyes was not happy at all with her decision. That may also have to do where she suggested he shove his advice after he tried to reason her to take the high road for defending herself for the umpteenth time. She felt like the biggest idiot to ever have a crush on him. Every time, Rossi blames Marinette for a problem, he would shoot disappointed looks in her direction.
Alya being Lila's biggest guard dog tore into Marinette for her newfound 'bad' behaviour. The rest of Lila's supporters backed her up with "How could you do that to Lila","I can't believe you changed." Nearly all her so-call friends had turned their backs and lost all common sense to the Italian's manipulations.
(Alya was supposed to be her best friend, aren’t you supposed to listen to your ‘bestie’ over a complete stranger)
The designer took it all with a bored expression on her face, used to the lecturing which was a waste of time because her behavior isn't going to change, no matter what, Lie-la will keep up the act of being the bully's (*cough*Marinette*cough*) victim.
Her heart that cracks the tiniest bit at the accusations. A small part of her, she admits, is hurt that they think so low of her.Was she really that worthless to them? All those times and efforts helping them out on last-minute favors and giving them free treats. Were they not enough to earn their friendship? Their trust or at the very least, a benefit of doubt?
The only ones who didn’t join the berating to 'correct' the raven-haired girl’s attitude were Chloe (who had proven herself to have changed after the miracle queen incident and Lila stole the spotlight and Sabrina. There were a lot of apologizes, gifts and ‘making up to do’) Alix (she came to her senses when the supposed bullying started) and Nathaniel (Lila blatantly claimed to be the artist for the Ladybug comic to his face).
“Girl, Marinette, are you even listening to me?”Alya demanded.
“Maybe. Did you say anything that doesn’t have to do with Lila or how I did her wrong or how I am no longer the person you knew?”
Marinette knew that being sarcastic would backfire but nothing she does or says will change what they think of her. One word from Lila and they will turn back on her. As much as she hates to admit it, Lila’s threat has fallen through and she was alone. Mostly.
She still had Chloe, Nathaniel, Alix, Luka and Kagami as friends. The trust-worthy and loyal kind.
“Girl,” Alya says in a disappointed tone, shaking her head,“when I look at you, I don’t see that girl who stood up to Chloe the bully-”, Chloe snorted, she had changed but they were too blind and prejudiced against her to notice her efforts, “-Picking on Lila, threatening and harassing her. This isn’t you and you know it. Just get over your jealousy on Lila being close to Adrien and apologize to her.”
If Alya had talked to her in the past 12 months other than demanding things that took away her time or anything relating to Lila, she would know that her infatuation had turned into annoyance.
Marinette sighed, too tired of this routine, tired of trying to knock heads so the brain cells can work again. Apologizing would mean that Lila had won. She was petty and stubborn enough to allow that to happen. Lila said she will take the class and Adrien. Fine, she can have them but Marinette Dupain-Cheng will not admit defeat. Bigger men had fallen to the ravenette for lesser offences. A year has passed since the expulsion and the class still hasn't regained common senses, so they can deal with the consequences after the inevitable downfall of Lila and Marinette will be there to see them lay in the grave they dug.
Steeling herself for the pain that will come with the execution of her plan,
“What if I don’t. I won’t apologize to her because I have not done anything to her or even interacted with her. If I apologize, it would be insincere and a lie. And I hate liars.” The former assassin said evenly.
“Lila is not a liar. I don’t know why you are like this.” Alya said, frustrated.
Marinette knew there would be a small chance of an akuma with Gabriel Agreste having an important meeting to attend on this day that would last for the next hour. This was the small window of opportunity to start the plan and also further confirm the identity of Hawkmoth. Killing two birds with one stone.
“Alya, this has always been me, you just never took the time to get to really know the real me.”, she replied, the last part with an icy tone.
“Well-... I- ..You-, fine, then if you can’t say those simple three words, we can’t be friends. I clearly don’t know what a selfish bitch you are. God, I can’t believe I wanted to be best friends with you. You are now replaced by Lila because unlike you, she is genuinely nice and selfless.” Alya declared. The rest of Lila’s supporters murmured in agreement.
Phase 1, complete. Lure the Lie-la into a false sense of security by making her think she won.
Marinette tried not to show how hurt she was, to be replaced by the scheming bitch. But at the same time she felt relieved, she no longer had to walk on eggshells in fear of losing the friendships of people she used to care about. It felt final as she maintained her stoic expression, hoping they didn't notice the glassy sheen her eyes had.
“Then, it is official. We are no longer friends.”
They haven’t been friends for a long time.
Mme. Bustier finally walked into the classroom to start the afternoon classes, signalling the end of the conversation. After class, Marinette resolves to inform them that she was resigning as class president which she was sure the class will be glad for. She was right.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ladybug was, as the Americans say, pissed at Hawkmoth which was nothing new. He had sent out another akuma just as Marinette was back home and trying to relax after the stressful day. The akuma was not any of her ex-friends which she wasn’t sure to be thankful for or not.
Louise Martin was a boy about Luka’s age and mad at his friends who had blamed their fifth loss-in-a-row on him despite the fact that it was his skills that were getting them any progress. They were playing one of those recently released 5V5 skills and strategy battle games. (League of Legends or Mobile Legends. Take your pick, I am going with the latter)
He was akumatized into Hayakuma as proof of Hawkmoth’s lack of creativity. Hayakuma was a bleached out version of Louise’s chosen hero avatar, Hayabusa whose outfit was basically what the media portrays ninjas to look like with some samurai aspects.
Unfortunately, he also had the hero’s ultimate special powers which were making four shadow copies of himself and being able to switch positions with them. Thanks to Rattlesnake’s Second Chance, they know that he can only make a switch once every two minute. Hayakuma also wields a sword, showing off his skills.
Just lovely.
Hydra and Ladybug were the only ones able to counter his attacks with Hydra’s sword and Ladybug’s summoned one. (Let’s go with that headcanon(?)/trope that she can summon weapons for plot convenience and the others can too but just don’t have enough practise yet.)
The others managed to dodge and shield themselves from Hayakuma’s really sharp sword.
The shadows themselves were annoying as they would distract or hinder the miraculous users by grabbing them by their shadows and making them unable to move. Until Bunnix had the brilliant idea of shadow boxing which gave the heroes gain more even ground.
With how strong and handful the akuma was, it was code ‘all hands on deck’. Ladybug, Stinger, Rattlesnake, Hydra, Bunnix, Trickster. Well, nearly every hand. Lady Mǔ lǎohǔ was busy with the bakery. Chat Noir was nowhere to be seen or very late which had been the norm for the last year ever since Ladybug wanted to form a new miraculous team consisting of permanent heroes.
(He didn’t show up for the first few months because the first permanent member was Ladybug’s mother who did not like his attitude towards her daughter. He ran away with his tail between his legs once he found out how she was related to Ladybug. His face when he realized it, was something Marinette will cherish forever)
At least when Lady Mǔ lǎohǔ was around, he would not dare act out of line. When she is gone however, he is back to his old ways.
After saving one of Louise’s teammates from Hayakuma’s sword, they gathered the rest of the team and hid them someplace safe. Using Trickster’s illusions to trick all the shadows and the original to one place, the heroes were going to surround and ambush them and get the akumatized item. The plan would have been a success if it weren’t for Chat Noir hugging Ladybug from behind, making her miss her cue.
“Hey~ Bugaboo~ Did you miss me~? Your Chaton~?”
Thwack! Smack!
Chat Noir was on the rooftop, groaning pitifully in pain. Especially his crotch area. Ladybug glared at him and looked to the ambush point to see the illusions had disappeared and everyone else gone from their hiding place.
She sighed and turned on the comms, (Thank you, kwamis)
“Sting, did you venomed the akuma?”
“No, he escaped before I could. What happened, LB?”
“A certain cat got me delayed. What’s the status update?”
“Hydra is holding him off and Bunnix found that an umbrella is a good substitute for a sword. The rest of us are keeping track of the shadows. They split up but none of them are getting near where we hid the targets.”
“Where are you? I will meet you later with back-up.”
“Near Notre Dame and tell Mama Tigress I said hi.”
“Tell her yourself.”
She looked down at Chat No-, no he is not worthy of being a hero anymore with the amount of times he had derailed and hijacked the plans to defeat the akumas just so he can ‘earn’ Ladybug’s heart.
She looked down at Adrien Agreste, who was sitting and sulking like a child that was unfairly punished. (Once she got over her crush and started looking at the right things that she managed to piece together her ‘partner’s’ identity by accident. Tikki’s confirmation sealed the deal.)
“Chat Noir, this partnership of ours,” she said, gesturing to the two of them, “ is going to change tonight. Meet me at the ‘spot’ at 11 sharp. Now, go home.”
He left with a small glimmer of hope in his eyes at her words. She felt a little bad about the subtle manipulation but with the way things were now, it can’t go on. He was hindering more than helping and the people of Paris that weren’t shipping ‘Ladynoir’ saw that.
As she jumped towards Notre Dame, she called the bakery with her yoyo.
“Mama, are you free now? I need a little help with the akuma and can you bring the horse miraculous.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chat Noir waited excitedly at what they both dubbed at their ‘spot’, in the good old days when it was just the two of them. Maybe Ladybug was finally open to the idea of dating. Or maybe she must have seen what a great hero he is and was going to get rid of the team. Or realized that having her mother on her team was a bad idea. Parents are the worst and they both can be two rebellious teenagers in love. Like Romeo and Juliet. So romantic~.
He was so deep in his daydream that he didn’t hear his lady land.
“Chat Noir.” Startled, he nearly fell off the roof. No, don’t make a fool of yourself in front of Ladybug.
“Yes, Bugaboo.” Hoping she didn’t know that he was very distracted. His attention will always be hers 100%.
“Don’t call me Bugaboo. Tikki wants to talk to Plagg about Kwami stuff. So you go over and hide behind that chimney. Then, we can talk about why I told you to be here.” Adrien frowned and then smiled. His lady must be very embarrassed about her mistake that must be why she is taking her time. He tried listening to what they were saying but the kwamis were talking in their special Guardian Language. Was it him or did Tikki’s voice sound more like his lady’s voice?
Whizz!
Adrien was tied up with Ladybug’s yoyo. “M’Lady? Bugaboo!? LADYBUG! WHAT IS GOING ON?!! PLAGG-”
Ladybug cut in, “Adrien Agreste, you have been slack in your hero duty and choosing your own feelings over supporting your partner, me, the holder of the Ladybug Miraculous and current Grand Guardian, in the efforts to defeat the enemy of Paris, Hawkmoth. Due to those reasons, you are no longer worthy to be the Holder of the Black Cat Miraculous” in one swift motion, she took the ring off his finger, “As such you are hereby revoked of Plagg’s Ring.”
“NO, YOU CAN’T. YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO ME! I LOVE YOU AND I KNOW YOU LOVE ME BACK. WE ARE SOULMATES, WE ARE MEANT TO BE-”
Adrien went slack at Lady Tigress’s pinch on his pressure point.
“I don’t what you ever saw in the boy.”
“I don’t know either. I think I dodged a bullet here. Can you carry him back to his home? I think I have dealt with enough of him tonight.” Ladybug muttered, as she erased Adrien’s memories of being Chat Noir.

If your fic includes Adrien not "helping" poor little marinette and hes seen being lectured and all that other nonsense just tag it as adrien salt cuz it obviously isnt in canon.
I dont wanna see adrien salt when im lookin for salt on LILA aka the only asshole that deserves it, literally shes the only thats causing the issues but for some reason its EVERYONES fault marinette cant handle a little liar. Theyre sweet gullible kids and also uh hi.
Adriens tried to help multiple times but yall forget that.
He tries to speak up for her, he got interrupted.
Tried to sit in the back with her, Lila fucked that up.
Even tried to talk to Lila calmly and that didnt go well.
Even made a deal with Lila so she can leave her alone.
So again how the fuck is he not helping?? How is that putting Lilas feelings above Marinettes? Cuz hes not aggressive with it? We've seen what happens when Marinette tries to bluntly call her out so why would Adrien repeat it??
Also. Alya made ONE comment about her being jealous. And that was it and from what we've seen, its pretty in character for marinette to do petty shit for jealousy (teamed up with chloe, snooped through kagamis phone, and shes stolen adriens phone too) soo.. Of course her first thought would be Marinettes over reacting cuz she does that a lot, and Alya hasnt known either of the girls that long, that doesnt mean shes a terrible friend or person nor is she a bully.
Also...I watched Chameleon a lot of times and I STILL dont see where all the salt came from?? Yeah the episode was really..really annoying and the class seemed dumbed down but?? It wasnt that bad?? Like..what did yall even watch?? Tf.
Just ..Adrien and Alya are good characters and theyre always getting butchered for some cliche wack ass plot. Especially in Dam*nette fics.
Like obviously if you do this i cant stop you and its YOUR story, and i cant and wont tell you to stop writing it cuz..why would I?? Just tag it / dont make it seem like its actually canon.

Day 12: Disapproval
What’d I miss?
This is in fact dedicated in honour of the wonderful @knoxursoxoffpenwriter69! Go check them out!!! Their art and writing is literally amazing!!!!!
@felinettenovember
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Félix glared at Marinette from his seat, back straight, hands folded, face set into hard, sharp lines.
Marinette met his gaze as she slid into her seat, giving him a mocking smile to cover her nerves.
Oh she knew, she knew why he was glaring at her like that.
And it had everything to do with yesterday afternoon.
She landed in her room, falling onto her bed as Tikki’s magic disappeared, grinning and flushed after an akuma. The battle had been a whirlwind, and she’d needed to be quick, quick and fast and focused, but they’d done it in no time. Now she could prepare for her study session with—
“Marinette?”
She bolted upright, staring down at Félix in horror.
He had seen Ladybug enter, and Marinette appear.
He knew.
Félix stared back at her, his long legs folded beneath him, books spread out on the floor, prepared for studying. He was early.
“Félix,” she said, feeling numb and flustered at once. “Please, you can’t tell anyone—”
“You’re Ladybug,” he whispered. The words echoed through her room.
She flinched away from them, from the danger he was now in. “Yes, and it needs to be a secret.” She slipped down from her loft, Tikki floating behind her cautiously. He scrambled to stand up, his gaze never leaving her. Marinette felt her heart squeeze.
She trusted Félix, with her entire being, she trusted him, but all she could think of was his body, broken before Hawkmoth. His beautiful silver eyes empty. Him, hurt, because of her.
He knew, he knew, he knew.
“You’re Ladybug,” Félix repeated, the shock fading from his voice. “You’re the one saving this city. Fighting for us.”
Marinette stopped her approach, stunned from the venom and disgust in his voice. She had never thought he would be so… angry it was her.
Surprised, shocked, stunned.
Never angry.
“Yes, I’m Ladybug.” She lifted her chin higher, trying to summon her courage, the confidence she felt in her bones as she flew across the city.
“The hero.” He said softly, too softly. “The first and last line of defence. You.”
Rage, born from fear and panic of his anger, flamed her blood. She had fought for years for this city, for him. His petty disapproval meant nothing to her.
“Yes, me,” She spat. “I was chosen. To be Ladybug, to protect this city. I am the hero of Paris. Surprised?” Her hands were shaking, out of fury or fear. Was she losing him?
Félix laughed, and it sounded deranged. He looked furious, disbelieving, disapproving. “I can’t believe—you were—chosen, you were chosen for this. What cruel person would do this—”
“Marinette is a perfect Ladybug!” Tikki spoke up, her voice carrying all the ancient rage Marinette had never heard. “She was chosen because she is worthy and capable. How dare you—”
“I can’t—I don’t—chosen—you.” Félix shook his head. “You. Marinette, Ladybug. Fighting. Saving people. In the thick of danger. Our hero.”
There was disdain in his voice. She was thrown back, to every time she was belittled by Chloe, by bullies. For being too shy, too clumsy, too small, too distracted and quiet and loud and emotional.
Marinette’s eyes stung.
She had never thought he would be so disgusted with her as Ladybug. He had never held her faults against her. But the way he was looking at her—all she saw was everyone who had ever put her down.
“Marinette.”
Félix reached out, to touch her shoulder, to do something, but all she saw was red.
He didn’t believe in her. He didn’t trust her to be a hero.
He knew and found her lacking.
“Disappointed?” She hissed, stepping away from his hand. He snatched it back like she burned him. “Poor Félix, so shocked and mislead.
“What?” he barked. Anger burned in his face. “Don’t play games, you know what I’m—”
A buzzing filled her ears. She smiled at him, shoving back the tears, the hurt. Letting her betrayed “Are you upset that it’s me? Just plain, clumsy Marinette!”
She threw her hands up. “Are you surprised that I’m the one left bleeding and bruised after every fight saving this city? That I am the one who has sacrificed everything, again and again, to do my duty?”
Félix growled, and she took a taunting step closer, blinking up at him mockingly.
“Are you angry I’m the one chosen? Angry that I was picked for this? Do you think I’m going to slip up?”
She shoved him, spiralling down into—hate, anger, panic. She didn’t know. She couldn’t feel anything but the intensity of these feelings. Félix stepped back, glaring down at her.
“Are you angry it’s me?” She asked, sticking her finger in his face. “Are you furious? Are you disgusted?”
Marinette wanted to scream at him, to deal him a blow like the one he had given her. “Do you hate it?”
She grinned, baring her teeth. “Do you disapprove?”
“Yes.” He snapped back. “I disapprove that you are on the front lines. I disapprove. I don’t like it. I don’t like this.” He gestured at her, at Tikki. “I hate it. I hate that you are Ladybug. I hate that it is you. You of all people. Out of everyone, in this whole city, you had to be chosen—”
“Get out,” she breathed. Her body shuddered—from pain, from hurt. “GET OUT.”
Félix said nothing as he gathered up his books, shoving them into his bag. She watched him, keeping her fists clenched. He stormed past her to the trapdoor.
He hesitated, hovering uncertain, half in, half out. “Marinette—”
“Goodbye.”
He closed the door.
“Is everything alright with you and mister grumpy?” Alya leaned over when class was finished, concerned. Marinette couldn’t look at her. Would she react the same?
“An argument. I don’t want to talk about it,” Marinette replied. But it hurt, like an ache in every cell of her body. It felt wrong to not be okay with him, to not feel that warmth. It felt like her lungs were ripped apart, her heart a beat off, her blood a fraction too cold.
Alya leaned back, considering her words. “It seems like he does.” She jerked her chin to Félix. Marinette didn’t turn. “Maybe you two should discuss it when you aren’t both so mad.”
‘I hate that you are Ladybug.’
Marinette crumpled her hand into a fist. “There’s nothing left to say.”
She had been ignoring Félix too well it seems. She hadn’t even noticed when he came up beside her as she walked home and grabbed her elbow.
For a moment, first instinct was to turn and swing at whoever had grabbed her.
Then she recognised the weight of the hand, the smell of clean paper and ink.
It set a fire in her heart before she stamped it out.
“What do you want?” she demanded, pulling her arm away. Gods, it hurt to see him, see the lines and planes of his arm as it fell from her.
Félix’s face was a mask, the only emotion she could see was determination. “To talk.”
“We already talked. You made your opinion clear. Now leave.”
His lips pursed a fraction. A crack in the mask. “Please, Marinette—”
“No. You told me what you thought. You told me many times. I—” Warmth grew behind her eyes. Tears. “—I don’t need to hear it again.”
He took a step forward. “I don’t think you understand what I was saying.”
Bastard, bastard for making this hurt. Bastard for doing this again. “Insulting my intelligence? Why am I surprised. Was yesterday not enough?” She turned away, even though she knew they weren’t done, even though she knew he would—
Félix grabbed her hand, squeezing it lightly. Just as she knew he would, as she played the part to make him touch her again.
“I want to explain,” he pleaded. The emotion behind his voice made her pause.
He’s your friend, you love him, a part of her whispered. Her heart.
“Fine.”
Marinette led him home, let him follow her to her room. Better to do it on her own terms, in a place where she had some control.
She stood in the centre of the room, glaring at Félix. “Talk.”
He watched her warily. “Where’s the… thing. That floated.”
“My kwami. Tikki’s in my bag. She’s asleep.”
Félix nodded; lips turned down in the corner. He didn’t look inclined to start speaking.
But Marinette was tired, and every moment in the same room with him made her hurt just a little bit more. “You have three minutes.”
“Yesterday… yesterday I was shocked,” Félix told her. He wouldn’t look in her direction. “You just—hurtled in, as Ladybug. And then you were Marinette. And then I knew you were Marinette.”
“I was there too. No need for a recap,” she snapped.
Félix sighed, starting to pace. “For one moment, I was shocked. Trying to reconcile you and her. The hero and my friend. It took less than a second.” He gave a mockery of a laugh. “How could it not? Both brave, both so clever, both so similar. It was easy to accept.”
He stopped and looked at her. “Then I was mad.”
Her heart strained. “Félix.”
“I was mad. I was furious. Nothing had ever made me lose my head so much. I couldn’t think of anything else. I’m still mad.”
Please, don’t say anymore, she silently begged him, don’t tell me why you hate it’s me.
Félix’s eyes were big—so big and honest. She couldn’t look away.
“But I’m angry, Nette, not because—” he growled, clenching his hands tight. “Not because—"
“Please,” she whispered, cutting him off. Never had she felt so small. “Don’t.”
Félix ran a hand through his hair. “No, Nette. I’m not angry because I think you’re aren’t good as Ladybug. I’m angry—I’m angry because it’s you.”
Marinette shook her head. I don’t understand. It just hurts. It hurts so much.
Félix took a step towards her, cautiously, nervously. She stayed still. “When I realised it was you, I remembered all the times Ladybug has been hurt. All the danger she is in, every day, every fight. I remembered all the times she was thrown into a wall or hurt or beaten down. And then—then it wasn’t just a hero, it was you.
“My dearest friend. Who brought light and joy to my life. You were getting thrown into the line of fire every single time. And it—it killed me Nette.”
Oh.
Félix took another step forward. “It killed me to know that it was you. To know that you were getting hurt. You were in the thick of danger. You are always at risk!” His face was heartbreaking. She was breaking with it.
“I was just—I couldn’t think.” He was close enough to touch now. Close enough to see the desperation in his face. “I couldn’t think with all his rage. Your words—they didn’t land. To know you were getting hurt, to know that it was you, it drove me insane. I said horrible things, and I didn’t even realise that you would think I meant something else until today.”
She wanted to hold him. She wanted to reassure him, but he kept talking, words fast and pleading.
“I didn’t mean to hurt you, to make you think that I—that I didn’t believe in you.” He shook his head, a little smile on his lips. “Gods, I couldn’t think of anyone better for being a hero. You’re incredible. You’re a hero.”
Joy, joy filled Marinette. He doesn’t hate it. He’s glad it’s me. The ache was fading, and all she wanted to do was laugh for joy that he wasn’t leaving.
“But I was angry you were chosen for this.” Félix gripped his hair, tugging on it. Her hands reached out to pull them away—to make him stop punishing himself—but they dropped before she could.
“I was mad someone picked you, specifically to face these villains with no end in sight. That someone I love so much was in so much danger that I—”
Love, love, love, love. The word pounded through her blood.
Félix struggled to find words, to choke them out. “I’m—I—”
He lowered his head, eyes closed.
“I’m sorry,” Félix murmured brokenly. “I’m sorry that I was so cruel. I’m sorry I made you think I disapproved you being Ladybug. I’m sorry I was an idiot who couldn’t use his words properly.”
Tears slipped down his cheeks, and they made her hands wet as she lifted his face to hers. Grey met blue as their breath mingled.
“I forgive you,” she whispered, pulling him into a hug. “And I love you too. I really hope you don’t mean platonically.”
He laughed, broken and wet against her neck. “I love you. Romantically. Please never get hurt again.”
Gods, he knew how to make her heart ache.
She pulled back and leaned her forehead against his, closing her eyes against the pain, the agony in his voice.
“I can’t promise that,” she told him softly. “But I can promise to do my best. That’s all I can do, Félix.”
He sighed, and it tickled her lips.
“That’s enough,” he said, their noses brushing. “From you Marinette, anything is enough.”
There was nothing left to say, so she said nothing. Just held him close, her promise between them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
☀ What's your rp pet peeve?
Blondette, silverette, pinkette, blunette, whatevernette...
Its petty, but those fake words just drive me up the wall, because that’s not how the ‘nette’ suffix thing works... and that is why I have a disclaimer on my guidelines that if anyone uses these words at me in a rp post, they have to buy me a kofi. Because I’m petty.
From the Liar’s Mouth
Disclaimer: I don’t own ML.
Summary: “If you want to take down Lila, you have to play the long game,” Kagami says. “That means winning over your classmates. You’ve tried the direct approach and where has that gotten you?”
Who would’ve thought that Kagami’s advice would not only let Marinette tolerate Lila’s existence, but also land her both a boyfriend and a girlfriend?
AO3 link
“…and I just don’t get how Mr Damocles could believe her like that!” Marinette waves her hands around, nearly spilling her orange juice all over the table. “A condition that makes her lie? There’s no such thing! And I don’t want to go into “you need official proof of your disability to be believed” territory, but with as many conditions as she says she has? Why hasn’t anyone called her mother and asked for everything they should know to accommodate her? Especially when I needed, like, ten pieces of paper just to prove to them that I’m autistic!”
Across from her, Kagami just smiles and takes a sip of juice. Why is Kagami smiling at a time like this? This is a disaster! Lila gets off scot-free, with an even more iron-clad excuse for lying, and Adrien is Kagami’s friend too, right? Why isn’t Kagami worried for him?
“How can you smile when she’s just gotten away with it again?” Marinette bursts out. “Especially after how she hurt you with that picture of her kissing Adrien?”
“I’m going to choose to take your statement as worry for me after what Lila did to me and not an accusation, since I know you meant the former,” Kagami says rather calmly. “And if you would stop allowing your contempt for Lila to cloud you, you would see that she’s just handed you victory on a silver platter.”
Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms
*An after Loveater fic*
"Hey Adrien," Alya called. "Do you know what's wrong with Marinette?" The blond turned to look at the brunette, then to the blue eyed girl, who was hunched over her notebook, furiously writing down something on it.
"I don't know," Adrien confessed. "Why wouldn't she be ok? Is something wrong?"
Alya only shook her head. Of course the most oblivious boy in the school hadn't noticed. "She's just been acting weird," she explained. "Doesn't really talk to me, or her parents, or anyone for that matter," Alya sighed. "She spends all her time on her phone or writing in her notebook. We're just worried about her. She looks like a walking zombie."
He watched the aforementioned girl once again and she indeed had dark bags under her eyes, her skin paler than normal. How had he not noticed? Ok, he knew why. Ever since he and Kagami had gotten closer after ice-cream he had been daydreaming and spacing out more than usual, not really paying attention to his surroundings. And maybe he was being petty by ignoring some of his superhero responsibilities too, not having gone to patrol yet, but he couldn't feel bad about it right now. He was tired and honestly, he wanted to savor the rare good mood that Kagami had set in him.
That, however, didn't stop the slight nab of guilt that hit his stomach. Marinette was his friend too, and he had been ignoring her, even if it hadn't been on purpose.
He crossed the courtyard in no time thanks to his long legs, determined to talk to her.
Marinette seemed to sense him, which shocked him a little as he was trying to walk as silently as possible, similarly to his alter-ego.
She closed the notebook just as he sat on the bench next to her, sparking in him that strike of curiosity that often got him in trouble. Why did she not want him to see it? So curious.
"Hey Marinette!" He smiled brightly.
"Hey," she answered flatly, not looking at him directly. That made him frown a little. Maybe she was angry at him? But he hadn't done anything to make her mad right? They had barely interacted at all since the last time she hung out with him and Kagami.
"What were you writing? You looked so concentrated."
"Nothing. Just... some design concepts," she said courtly, shifting away slightly. But Adrien only leaned closer.
"Really? You are so creative and talented Marinette!" Adrien complimented. "Can I see?"
"No."
Suddenly everything went quiet around them, both too deep inside their own bubble of awkwardness.
Adrien was gaping at her, shocked to the core. She had never spoken to him that way before. Not even during the gum incident. He couldn't say he appreciated it. His own pent up annoyance flaring a little until he pushed it back down again. She was obviously moody. She just needed a friend who could be patient.
"Come on 'Nette just a peek-" he tried again, only to be cut off mid-sentence. "No Adrien, you can't look." She stated, not even looking up at him. Maybe any other day that would've been it, he would have been crushed to be talked to that way by a precious friend, but the feelings he had been bottling inside him surged forward without restraint. He had been worried sick ever since Chloé's disappearance. Restless because of Kagami and frustrated with a certain polka-dotted superheroine -and since the tone Marinette had used had sounded a lot like the one Ladybug used whenever she wanted to be condescending, it hadn't helped at all.-
"Well that wasn't very nice," he couldn't help but mutter passive-aggressively, his emotions boiling and ready to burst from within him, barely kept in check.
Adrien watched - with a bit of satisfaction- as she whipped her head to finally look at him in the eyes, a strange look he didn't recognize on her face.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me," he ventured. "You were a bit rude."
Her eyes narrowed ever so slightly.
"What the fuck is your problem?" She actually growled. Ah, that was the emotion he couldn't quite place on her features: Rage.
"My problem? You are the one growling like an animal and snapping at anyone who approaches you!" He huffed indignantly.
Her face contorted in an ugly gesture before spitting out her comeback. "You are the one who got into my personal space and wanted to peep into my private journal!"
"I was just trying to check up on you!" He exclaimed exasperated. "You are worrying everyone so I thought I could sit with you and havd some friendly interaction, you know, like friends do?"
Marinette flinched for a second but was soon her ragey self again.
With a trembling sigh she got up, ready to leave, but Adrien blocked her path before she could go anywhere else.
"Where are you going?"
"Somewhere."
"We were in the middle of talking."
"Well, now we're done talking," she gritted her teeth.
"No we are not!"
"Yes we are!"
"Now you're just being stubborn," Adrien spat, the conversation and attitudes so jarringly familiar that he was a bit scared.
"I'm the stubborn one?" She cried. "Let me go."
"Not until we talk this out," he countered.
"I need to go," she hissed, inching closer.
"I'm not letting you get away until you tell me what's bothering you so much that you start acting like this, Marinette," Adrien said angrily. "This is not like you, I'm honestly kind of disappointed."
Only then he noticed that Marinette was trembling. So hard that she seemed to vibrate. Half of him felt guilty that he had pushed her so far that she had started crying, but the other part of him felt relieved that maybe she would bawl her worries away in his shoulder and they would reconcile as the best of friends after it. He was about to suggest she lean onto him when he noticed the look on her face.
Oh she wasn't crying. She was seething.
A part of him wanted to hide away from her murderous gaze while the other, more Chat Noir one wanted to one up her and scream, kick and possibly fight her.
But before he could decide between the two a clouded fog covered her eyes as she relaxed her body completly, her face and posture now completely neutral.
He had to blink several times in order to not suffer from emotional whiplash. What the fuck was that? What had happened just now?
Before he could ask, she whispered in a barely audible voice.
"Adrien, move." Her tone sent shivers down his spine. His heart rate shooting up in fear. "Before I do something we both regret."
Paralyzed on the spot, he didn't stop her this time as she walked around him. Her cold ire burnt hotter than the sun, blazing at his consciousness, regret and guilt etching themselves in his heart.
And maybe if he hadn't been so stunned by her change of demeanor he'd seen her limp and sway almost imperceptibly as she walked away.
