This week on Läpimurto: the Tampere kids!
It’s the first season for both Petteri Puhakka and Kasper Simontaival in men’s league although they both have been bounced between Liiga and Mestis throughout the season. How do they deal with that and what can they do in order to secure their spot on the team.
It’s known that in Tappara the rookies have harder time to make it to the lineup or the top lines when the rest of the team is so top notch. (Playwise we ain’t talking about the shit they do off it.) TV-analyst Lehkonen thinks they (or merely Simontaival) should aim to improve their game when they don’t have the puck and do it both offensively and defensively because that would help the most.
Later in the episode, Aatu Räty participates in the Red Bull challenge of shooting accuracy, puck handling, bowling, and mystery card where player need to score goals using the mystery items they draw. And Roni Hirvonen answers fan questions.

This week on Läpimurto: Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Roni Hirvonen... and January’s best U20 players in Liiga.
Espoo native Roni Hirvonen found his way to Porin Ässät after Espoon Blues ceased to exist in the Liiga scene several years ago due bankruptcy. But why Pori? He says the physical training and the rebuilt of the team were perfect for him and perfect chance for him to make it in Liiga and be a pro player. As he plays his second season in Ässät, he wishes to make more of an impact and be a top player in the team.
While Ässät’s season isn’t going that splendidly and the whole league is under some confusing times with having to play without crowds and occasionally rescheduling games, Hirvonen has still had some joyous times. Most notably winning bronze with Team Finland at the U20 world championships and him getting drafted to Toronto Maple Leafs in November, in the middle of a game.
Hirvonen tells that pretty much all of the 31 teams had been in contact with him which is why he had no expectations on who might draft him. But he has one clear vision of where he wants to be in 5 years: playing in the NHL.
Later in the episode, Tappara’s Petteri Puhakka participates in the Red Bull challenge of shooting accuracy, puck handling, bowling, and mystery card where player need to score goals using the mystery items they draw.

New Läpimurto out now!
On this week’s episode, the players speak about the pressure that’s on them as young players. Rookies usually tend to compete against each other and the rest of the roster on their spot in the lineup. The players are used to playing big minutes in the juniors but making it in the men’s team takes a lot more effort in the end.
With how last season went, Pelicans sold most of their players to other teams and gave the youngsters a chance to play Liiga. The team’s new coach Tommi Niemelä has a history of coaching young players in the national U18 team, and sees it’s the coaching staff’s job to help and assist the young players about their dreams in hockey, but nothing ever comes for free.
The players also themselves sees it’s important and great there is competition within the team itself, because it requires them to show off their best skills every chance that they got.
Pelicans players also take part in Red Bull challenge of shooting accurary, puck handling, bowling, and mystery card where players need to score goals using the mystery items they draw.

QUICK CHECK-UP: TAPPARA
2019-20 SEASON: 3RD PLACE
To start the season, Tampereen Tappara went onto winning 10 games straight and from there on out, it was all a steady ride until the end of the season. They did suffer from some injuries within their top players, but to be fair, with how the team is built you’d have never noticed. In my opinion, the only thing they did wrong during the season was basically acquire bunch of no-name ECHL players to cover those injuries when they could have been bringing their young talent in.
2020-21 SEASON
Tappara seems to follow in Chicago Blackhawks’ footsteps by bringing in bunch of former players back into the team. There’s Blake Parlett, there’s captain Jukka Peltola, and there’s... Dominik Hrachovina? Yeah, that latter would be an exciting one, if it wasn’t for the social media controversy he just caused by posting of coronavirus conspiracy theories and supporting extreme right wing politicians. Not trying to coax you guys into hating him, but I would say if you do stan him, please remember he is a bit of a character.

This week on Läpimurto: playoffs are coming.
What the playoffs mean to a player and the team? What’s the best part of them? What’s the biggest thing to pay attention to in playoffs? Of course these guys have yet to experience Liiga playoffs, because of post-season cancellation in 2019 and this being the first season in men’s league for most of them so what kind of experiences the guys have from the U20-league?
Later on in the episode, TPS rookies take a TPS quiz.
