Both Aatu and Topias say that on the ice their brothers feel more like team mates than family members. Although they can say the main difference to the rest of the guys is the more blunt feedback they get.

This week on Läpimurto (a day later than usual): Pelicans coach Tommi Niemelä gets mic’d up!
As Pelicans are currently 7th in the league and only 7 points away from the 2nd place, Tommi Niemelä is very happy regarding how his first season as a head coach in men’s league has been going. Niemelä has previously coached Finland’s junior teams and worked as an assistant coach for two seasons in the Swiss league NLA before joining Pelicans.
He tells that despite the rough start in the league, he has trusted his team’s development the entire time and also put this mentality in them that the overall process over the season is more important for them than individual games. For him it’s also important that his team has a positive environment around them because that usually helps with the overall success of the team as well.
Niemelä has background in working with juniors had come in real handy with the young talent on the Pelicans roster. Matias Rajaniemi and Topias Vilén see the man as really easy to get along with even when he is also very demanding. Niemelä is also the kind of a coach who likes to hear his own players’ goals for their careers and help them development in that direction. One example of this was Rajaniemi aiming to play the national U20 tournament in Canada and eventually making the team that also boosted his confidence for Liiga games.
Later in the episode Kärpät’s Aatu Räty answers fan questions.
