Jailer (2023) Spoiler Review

If you like pure mass entertainment and a group of veteran actors kicking ass, you'll love Jailer.

I saw Rajni's Petta a while back and while I enjoyed some parts of it, I was largely frustrated towards the end. I also saw Nelson's (the director) Beast, and while it had a straightforward premise, some parts of it were eyebrow-raising (I still love the hallway shooting scene with Vijay, though, that was just hella cool even if it didn't make sense). So, when they announced a Nelson and Rajinikanth collaboration, I wasn't sure if I should bother watching.

I'm glad I watched it though. For one, the story isn't all over the place. The revenge angle and heist subplot made sense together.

The flashback revealing Rajini's days as a hard-core warden aka Jailer was pretty nice. I liked that his hair style looked like the one in his older movies. However, I really don't understand why the inmates liked him or became loyal to him. It was never showed what he did to make them turn over a new leaf. They just said he helped them, but we mainly saw him being extremely violent.

Okay, this is part where I reveal that I saw Jailer a day after I saw Jawan. I couldn't help comparing the action in both movies because the action in Jailer is so violent! I'm not complaining or cringing. I actually liked the over-the-top violence lmao. It's just that I was like "Oh, right, this is one of things I was waiting for in Jawan -- hyperviolence!" LMAO.

Anyway, I do love that the former inmates that helped him were veteran action stars from Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi cinema: Shiva Rajkumar, Mohanlal and Jackie Shroff respectively. Bruh, I had goosebumps when Shiva R stepped into the house to protect Muthu's family while the Hukum song played!

Next, let's talk about the songs and bgm. "Hukum" really is such a banger of a song. And the style that they do, where they insert bits of the song's melody into cool scenes that build up and lead to the FULL SONG or at least CHORUS is such a great style because it makes you so hyped for the next badass scene!

Now, the family -- I honestly thought Rajni and Ramya Krishnan would have more romantic moments together since this is their reunion. Like, yes, they're grandparents now, but so what? It's always nice to see older people still doing romantic stuff with each other y'know.

Anyway, that twist with his son! I didn't expect them to go all the way with the betrayal but wow. It was really sad, but I liked that they went for that gut-wrenching story, too. Rajini is not much of a dramatic actor, but his performance was good for what the script called for. Also, his partnership with Yogi Babu was funny and nice. Also, those bald sharp-shooter guys! Their costume changes! That was so hilarious! And Varman's henchmen! The random funny characters and elements are really such a fun part of the mass experience.

All in all, Jailer is a really enjoyable movie for the whole family (if your kids are old enough to not be so desensitized to violence I guess).

Besides showing the genesis of Bollywood's favourite cop Chulbul Pandey, Dabangg 3 (2019) was highly anticipated as it marked the on-screen union of Salman Khan and Kannada superstar Kichcha Sudeep. Owing to Sudeep's presence, the film had generated tremendous buzz in the south market. For his next, Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, Khan has again roped in several south actors and technicians, thus ensuring that the cop drama has pan-India appeal.

Before the film went on floors last year, it is heard that Salman Khan and director Prabhudheva were certain about tapping the South audience that has had limited interest in Hindi films so far. "Tamil star Bharath Srinivasan, who has featured in several hit films including Kaadhaal (2004) and Kanden Kadhalai (2009), essays the role of an undercover cop in Radhe and shares crucial scenes with Salman. While Disha Patani plays the superstar's love interest, Megha Akash — who was recently seen in Rajinikanth's Petta (2019) — plays Salman's colleague and has shot several action sequences with him," says a trade source.

Those familiar with Narra Srinu's work have reason to cheer as the comedian will foray into Bollywood with the actioner. The source adds, "Prabhudheva loves Srinu's work and felt he would be the perfect choice to up the movie's comic quotient. Considering Salman is known for his deadpan humour, the director has conceptualised a hilarious track, which includes a chase sequence, with the duo."

Khan's interest in Kollywood is not restricted to actors — action directors Anbu-Arivu, who won the National Award for KGF: Chapter 1 (2018) and are steadily making their mark in the Hindi film industry, have designed the hand-to-hand combat sequences in the movie. When it came to developing a special dance number featuring Patani and him, the superstar entrusted the responsibility to one of his favourite choreographers Jani Master, who had worked with him on Jai Ho (2014).

The return of Thalaivar

An outsider gains entry into a controlled ecosystem. Once he enters that ecosystem he simply transforms and owns it. Does this sound like the life story of a phenomenon of Thamizh cinema fondly called 'Thalaivar'? It is also the first half hour of his latest movie - 'Petta'.

Right from the first frame the director Karthik subbaraj establishes that this will be an out and out 'Thalaivar' extravaganza. The introduction sequence is spectacularly staged with lot of silhouette shots of the man. When his visage is finally revealed behind one of the sorry thugs, there is eruption, not only of music, but of the whole theatre. From then on it is frame by frame of the showcase of different facets of 'Thalaivar'. Subbaraj also peppers the screenplay with little twists for which he is renowned.

Right from the time the movie was announced, Subbaraj has been very clear that this is a pure 'Thalaivar' celebration movie. So anyone expecting the character detailing that the director is so good at (think Iraivi and Jigarthanda), would be slightly disappointed. But once you settle down for some 'Thalaivar' mass, there is no way you will avert your eyes from the screen. Subbaraj stages mass sequences like a director who has had more than ten commercial outings with big stars. While doing this, he also retains his style of filmmaking. He will not only be celebrated by 'Thalaivar' fans, but also revered.

Out of the supporting cast it is only Vijay sethupathy and nawazuddin siddiqui who create an impression. Sethupathy is brilliant, especially in a few sequences that required complex reactions. Siddiqui has the most interesting characterization in the movie and the actor aces the role.

Music and stunt choreography are two pillars to the movie. Anirudh produces some blistering music, truly complementing and sometimes elevating the scenes. The fight sequence in a vegetable market deserves special mention for appropriate, yet heroic action choreography.

What do I write about the man himself? I would have been four when I watched my first Thamizh movie in theatre - Thalapathy. I remember the uproarious reaction as a face, drenched in rain, appeared on screen. I asked my mother who was this man and why was he getting such a response.

"Avan dhaan hero, Rajinikanth", she replied.

Maybe it was her words, maybe it was the unique attitude of this man on screen, maybe it was the thunderous reception his dialogues received, maybe it was something more I could not fathom, but that day he became ‘THE’ hero on screen for me.

It has now been twenty seven years but all those reasons that made me a 'Thalaivar' fan are still intact and have only increased.

As 'Petta' closed, 'Thalaivar' faced the camera and asked ' Indha aattam podhuma Kozhandha?'

I got up on my seat and howled a resounding 'NO'

Last Friday I watched annathe in theater with my sister. It was nice family movie . It was soo long to see rajinikanth as a family man since padaiyappa. His acting is remarkable as a brother didn’t really expect to see him in this avatar. All the actors and actresses has their equal role. When I watch the movie I was worried how they going to shows nyantara’s screen time because in darbar and petta they waste their heroine’s on screen . However in this movie the director did his justice but maybe could add in a bit more on her showing women empowerment and support that required because that’s what women basically need from the society support from their own gender when their in a difficult situation not judging her character and attitudes. Overall the movie is family entertainment . I have one question for all people who hate and give review for this movie ?? Do you really hate the actor or movie ? Because if this kinda movie thala acts you all can accept but rajinikanth act can’t accept. Do you all love your family? If you love them this movie you will appreciate it.

Vijay Sethupathi’s Ka Pe Ranasingam might head for direct OTT release - regional movies

Actor Vijay Sethupathi’s upcoming Tamil political drama Ka Pe Rana Singam, which also stars Aishwarya Rajesh in a pivotal role, might have a direct OTT release. As per a source close to the film’s producer, talks have already been initiated with Amazon Prime.

“Negotiations are underway for direct OTT release. The producer has initiated talks with Amazon. An official announcement can be expected to be made soon,” a source close to the producer told Hindustan Times.

Based on real-life events, Ka Pae Ranasingam has been directed by P Virumandi and produced by Kotapadi J Rajesh under the banner KJR Studios. The film’s trailer was recently released. Going by the visuals, it looks like a story on corporatization and land acquisition by multi-national companies. The trailer also shows Vijay leading poor farmers in their fight against the industries that take away their lands.

The film, which was scheduled to hit theatres in April, also stars Rangaraj Pandey, Yogi Babu, Vela Ramamoorthy, Samuthirakani and Poo Ram in prominent roles. The film will mark the fourth collaboration of Vijay Sethupathi and Aishwarya Rajesh. Previously, the actors have worked opposite each other in Rummy, Pannaiyarum Padminiyum and Dharma Durai.

Last seen on screen in Sangatamizhan, Vijay Sethupathi will soon be seen in Tamil film Master, which has been directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. He’s tipped to be playing the antagonist in the film which stars Vijay in the titular role.

Vijay Sethupathi started playing negative roles from Rajinikanth’s Petta. In Master, he’s rumoured to be playing a gangster who locks horns with Vijay. The film features him in an extended cameo but the director had said in a media interaction that Sethupathi’s role is very important from the story’s perspective.

Aishwarya Rajesh, on the other hand, has nearly half a dozen projects in her kitty in Tamil as well Telugu industries.

Actor Rajinikanth is currently shooting for his next Tamil film with director Siva. Reports have emerged that the film has been titled Mannavan. Neither the makers nor Siva have officially announced the title. Sources have revealed that the title, along with the first look poster, will be released soon.Currently dubbed Thalaivar 168, the project marks the maiden collaboration of Rajinikanth and director Siva, best known for helming Veeram and Viswasam.
