So I was looking through my drafts and found this post about Project Skybox and the Interloper ARG from a few months ago. I think I wrote it after Part 9. Part C came out yesterday and some of the stuff I yapped about became slightly relevant/aged... Strangely? I have more thoughts about Part C but I'll save those for later.

I'm going to use Anomidae when referring to the series creator, and Anomi for the in universe character and Project Skybox to collectively refer to Anomi, Lucy, and anyone else involved.

So with any in-progress story with any element of mystery or intrigue, people make every single possible permutation of "X character is actually Y" theories, and I don't buy them. Like I don't think Anomi is actually Eida or whatever. There's mayyybeee one person who's involved with both Anomi and Eida's investigations, and that's JMan from the forum thread (first guy to make a demo, actually). He's also Eida's channel partner/voice actor. The only "evidence" for that is that Eida's crasher video is really crusty on the archive channel, but is a lot clearer in Anomi's video, which could mean Anomi had access to the original recording? It's also kind of weird that the annotated copy of the forum thread on the project skybox site gives JMan and only JMan the role of "Expert". There is also the mysterious JJ in the hidden text in the graffiti with the commands? Idk, I dont think this is anything.

Speaking of generic theories I don't like, I don't think Anomi is hiding information from the audience. At least, not maliciously. I think he's just omitting information that he doesn't think is currently relevant. Anomi and Eida are foils to each other. They're investigating the same thing, but they have very different approaches and theories about what's happening, and they both have their own blindspots which keeps them from seeing the bigger picture. So like, yeah, some of the Tuesday manifest demos are really weird, but Anomi had more pressing things to do, like poking SkyGhost for several months. There is literally a curated playlist on the channel of people dissecting the demos. He knows about the weird stuff in the demos, and he knows that we know he knows that. It's just not important to bring up right now.

Also, I don't think this is a petscop situation where the investigation gets coopted by other people. Lucy and project skybox's introductions seem sudden, but it's always sounded like Anomi's talking to someone off screen or in a discord call or something imo. The FourTwo/title card, Ravencheck/Gris connections, and Olive/🔴Live things are a bit weird, but I think they're just coincidences or dramatic irony. If there is a diagetic reason for them, it's not malicious. Like, what's more likely, Anomi was a member of this small CGI startup in 1991 that evolved into the server hosting/ai developer FSky during the 2000's-2010's, then in 2021 started a YouTube series about the weird things his company did and has been playing dumb this whole time... Or did Anomi pay homage to this weird computer graphics urban legend which he hosts on his site? Like if he's trying to hide this information, Anomidae could have hidden it better.

That all being said... Theres one thing I can't make sense of. Episode 5. The editing is really rough, sometimes Anomi gets cut off mid sentence, and Anomi's notes to cut things out of the video arent removed. The beginning of the video is what really baffles me though. It's the first draft of a video about the flashnuke. At the end of that segment, he lingers on the umbrella man graffiti in ravenholme. The entire first half of the video is Anomi reluctantly moving on from the interloper investigation after portal rtx broke last time.

Except. The dates are really weird. The successful fall test was on July 2nd, and the probe launch on the 10th. The flashnuke first draft was recorded on July 9th. Why would Anomi start a new project and look at the umbrella man graffiti so wistfully the day before the probe launch?

Hi hello so welcome to the post Part C part of this essay. My updated theory about Part 5 and the flashnuke was that the weird editing and tone was all intentional. Anomi did that on purpose, made it seem like he gave up, to make the probe launch even more dramatic. It was weird seeing the Xbox port and the flashnuke actually become relevant in Part C tho.

I feel vindicated that Eida made contact with Anomi, proving that they aren't the same person (probably. Hopefully.). Eida is very insistent Anomi watches his demo, but if Anomi has watched it all the way through, or has done cubemap extraction* on it or anything, he hasn't told us. Meanwhile Eida refuses to give any straight answers. Like what the fuck is a gris.mp4 dude. The two of them are immovable object vs immovable object.

*cubemap extraction is weird. I think part B established you could do cubemap extraction to *any* demo, but non interlope demos have random stuff generated by skyghost? Idk. The whole series follows a pattern of gaining access to one tool, losing access to it, but then finding another angle, another tool. The console commands, the portal rtx void, the probes, the VRAD entity photos, project skybox and the Tuesday manifest, skyghost, then cubemap extraction. Of all of them, cubemap extraction just feels out of place to me. At the very least they proved skyghost was still somehow connected to the fsky servers. Maybe they'll turn out to be like mission critical in the future, idk. But with Part C, Anomi finally entered and explored the source engine void, and project skybox crashed, maybe taking skyghost with it. It feels like we're nearing the end.

Let's talk about the elephant in the room. Spisefourx6. In Part B, random characters in Anomi's explanations are highlighted red, and put together they spell that out. At first I thought it was somehow skyghosts doing, but apparently, other messages starting with "spise" are hidden in parts 9 and A.

I have no idea what to do with those, or how to end this post.

While Fukouna Girl by STOMACH BOOK was playing, I was thinking a bit of Sebastian and his ghost design idea (if he loses r8), I was just thinking of how he is actually similar to like. A half of Petscop, inna way (I've been getting into it)

Firstly. The design is just ..kinda simple. Mainly taken from Daisy-Head Mayzie, and then just made him a dog of sorts. It fits him, with him being similar to Till (who, I will always believe is more dog like then anything). Then I kinda thought of just making his head very paper-y, if that makes sense. Anyways���

I have an idea of how I can go with the If He Loses R8 post, with lyrics from Fukuoka Girl ("i say goodbye to a blackbird. I say goodbye to my own words. she's an unlucky girl, who can save her? this disease that she has, there is no cure. the steel is kissing her head now, then the blood and saliva in her mouth. all the angels laughing down. all the angels laughing down.x2") — but then it just made me realize how similar he is to like. Paul from Petscop inna way???

I don't know at all. Faces are important in Petscop; Eddy's face is one that Sebastian has known the longest, I actually don't know if Eddy remembers Seb's face though (but there is a long-ago post of Eddy and seb 'food for thoughts', and it had eddy interested in seb's hair, which I'll take that. Hair and faces are big parts of a person, imo. My own example is my own mom, because the biggest thing I can remember about her is her hair)

I've connected Sebastian with Hänsel from Evillious Chronicles; who mainly has 3 reincarnated lives(iirc..or maybe he just has two). The whole "rebirthing" thing in Petscop (and also the theory of Paul being Care <- which makes the most damn sense), and also with Hajime Hinata (SDR2; one of his inspos. Hajime/Izuru). ..... Wanting to be safer, wanting to distance himself, wanting to be himself...

But also, just connected with the fact that he was basically abandoned- then when he was kidnapped when he was in his mid-teens or so (flor having him at 15/seb being taken at 15...I wonder if eddy was 15 when AREPH started..just some ideas for a coincidence in the story). Which fits into the fact that, in the game- it was stated that Care was taken into the School basement, and stayed there for Indunno how long.

The way that Paul shows how he's disturbed by Petscop with how things were just like his -> Sebastian having characteristics of an old dog (fear of familiarity, in people and in things).

"rebirthed" in a way of some traumatic thing to happen (he was indifferent to aliens, maybe he even liked some! But that's only towards Arol and Blob. Now? After how he was kidnapped and the way he was.. 'transformed' by his guardian? Yeah. He does stay with them, but it isn't because he likes them or anything. In some way, I feel like Eddy and Arol have a Mizi-Shine dynamic (could be wrong) with how naive Eddy is and how weak Arol is. And Sebastian thought that was how it was. He was naive too. And now? He calls them by their name, just like Paul does- I think? I haven't fully seen the videos by themselves actually, but I will!)

Actually. Funny as well. His previous name, the one he had before he was then called Sebastian- was Lorashishimboaninisshuori. Or in short, "Lora". Practically just having a feminine name, and then he gets renamed to "Sebastian" (which I think was given to him by Arol, since they needed to change that mouthful of a name).

To go back to the Daisy-Head Mayzie one though. Even if there is someone who loves him (Yvonne); "It is the half that drives them crazy, but brings comfort in how human and how they can learn from each other. It is how predatory yet- not one that scares him per-se, it's one that drives the idea of "enjoy it while it lasts". One that Sebastian lives by, even if he forgets about it- but he doesn't really forget about it when it comes to Yvonne. Who, even if gives him some sort of light scare, does comfort him. Gives him comfort to the best she can. 'Peace has always been a rare, fleeting thing.' (taken from a Dian post; round30). "I played it wrong, but that would have been okay. If you haven't given up halfway, you would still be Tiara. This is not what happened, and now I'm gone." (from petscop 12 video by petscop..it just lightly fits inna way)", I just think it would be nice? But also fit with how... Unfortunately normal it is with what happened to Sebastian (both when he was 2, and when he was 15). To follow in a twisted way how Daisies represent— New beginnings, rebirth, hope, loyalty, innocence, joy, etc.

Though, I think that's where the connection ends? I'm really not making sense here, but with making these connections and more- it just. Made me kinda realize that Seb's story has that whole rebirthing thing too, new identity, That Fear Of Familiarity, being left.

I don’t know how I never discovered Petscop before. I guess looking at the dates, it came out during a time I wasn’t online as much. If it had come out a few years earlier I would have been all over it.

But instead, I just stumbled across the completed series yesterday, and damn. It resonated so deeply with me. I have very little idea of what the hell is going on in terms of any kind of coherent linear narrative, but the raw emotions and themes? Haunting.

I’m going to ramble a bit under the cut, and this is going to go into some really dark themes. Trauma, violence, child abuse, lots of dark implications. Also spoilers for a webseries that is over 5 years old and probably everyone but me has seen at this point.

One part of dialogue in particular, or rather a note, is just playing over and over in my head. It’s one of the most chilling things I’ve ever read, and what makes it so effective is how much it leaves to cryptic, horrifying, but very poetic implication.

Your wife says, “Care isn’t growing eyebrows.” You say, “That’s a puzzle.” You’re secretly very excited to hear this news. You’re in the bathtub thinking about her. I have a guess at which child you’ll pick next. When you find her room, the passage to my right will lead to her. She’ll appear from the darkness, limping, and I’ll shoot her in the head. Tiara says young people can be psychologically damaged “beyond rebirthing.” A young person walks into your school building. They walk in with you. You’re holding their hands. They come out crying into their hands, because nobody will love them. Not ever again. “Nobody loves me!” They wander the Newmaker Plane.

This is a note from Rainer to, presumably, Marvin. Later, in Toneth’s description, Rainer begins to rant about his dog getting hit by a car and surviving, and him being the only one who still wanted to put it down, because “A dog is an innocent” and he believed that even when the dog wagged its tail after that, it wasn’t real. This immediately made my mind go back to the quote: “She’ll appear from the darkness, limping, and I’ll shoot her in the head.”

And it made me reflect on the A, B, and NLM states that Rainer assigns to Care before, during, and after her abduction. Later, in the “Care A” description, Rainer expands on this, applying it also to his brother, Michael.

When the emergency began, you were all looking for Care A. I told you all, we would never find Care A. When Care A goes missing, she goes missing forever. My brother didn’t want us to find him, because he knew we were all looking for Michael A.[…] If you think they’re worth any effort, see if you can save Care B, or Care NLM. Care B is in the school, of course.

For Rainer, this A/B/NLM divide is absolute, and there is no recovery possible, which is also implied in the quote he attributes to Tiara. Once the dog has been hit by a car, it should be put down. Once Care emerges from the darkness, limping, she should be shot in the head. He refuses to entertain the possibility that someone can come back from a traumatic experience and be happy again. You can try to salvage what’s left of them in their B or NLM states, if you think it’s worth the effort, but they’ll never be A ever again. That is what Rainer believes.

Interestingly, I think it’s possible that Rainer himself was abused by Marvin (“I’m back. This is my Christmas gift to you” implies that he himself was also missing, wandering “the Newmaker Plane.”) But he does not seem to place himself into the category of victim. Above, he refers to Marvin’s victims as “they”, “them.” Not “we.” Rather, he seems to categorise himself as being culpable together with the adults in the family (“Fuck you all, and fuck me as well.”) Paul says that Rainer (Daniel) was older than the other kids, so it’s very possible that he might blame himself for “failing” to protect the others. Or worse, he might have even been pulled into playing a role in abuse, or otherwise perpetuated it.

I believe that from the description ending on the ominous note of “Merry Christmas. Check your bathroom now.” we are to assume that Rainer killed himself. This would certainly feel like the inevitable conclusion of the nihilistic, hopeless, wounded perspective we have been given glimpses into through his various notes and through the design of his game itself.

But rather than support Rainer’s tragic outlook, the series gives me hope in how it ends. Paul rebelling against what Marvin tries to make him participate in, “closing the loop” and putting Care in the safest place he can think of really got to me. And that last scene between Paul and Belle/Tiara at the end of the soundtrack… Oh my God. The gentle blueish dawn on the Newmaker Plane. “Boss” (Lina??) “waiting for her son.” !!!!!! And this. Oh my God.

This made me actually cry. It’s so utterly beautiful and hopeful. They did it.

I don’t pretend to fully understand everything that’s going on here or who all the characters are, but I kind of think that’s not the point. I know when this was coming out people were treating it as an ARG to be solved, but I don’t see it that way. I think it’s just a piece of art to be interpreted, and resonates beyond any one literal narrative or meaning.

Also, the other part that made me cry was watching Care’s dancing video synced up to “The Sign” by Ace of Base. It just struck all the right chords: a song straight from my own childhood, the fact that making a video game avatar dance to a popular song is absolutely something I did as a kid and just imbues the character of Care with so much humanity, the fact that the literal meaning of the lyrics is so cathartic after all that Care is implied to have gone through… God it just got to me.

BIG umineko spoilers up to episode 4 end stretch - grooming, implied incest/pedophilia mention; talking thru some theories/observations

am i misremembering or wasnt (someone calling herself) beatrice raised from birth in kuwadorian. everyone keeps calling her kinzo's mistress and it's like. oh they don't know...

im sure the ambiguity is intentional because the point is that we can't really pin down her age (or even how many fucking beatrices there are), but it keeps coming back to me. beatrice's drunk furniture talk in episode 4 is like really sharp when you look at all this.

they repeatedly draw attention to beatrice's age, both physically and how she acts, and age-appropriateness in general. it strikes me a lot how everyone treats battler as an adult man, even though he's only 18 and self-admittedly not very mature. arrested by trauma, none of the family members really know how to grow up, and the line between fantasy and reality is blurred.

i wonder if the thing where it seems she (or someone calling herself beatrice) perhaps had some feelings for battler in the past is related to all this. she's trapped in this birdcage, and yet suddenly there's this guy who doesn't accept the family's values. without even realizing the significance of what he's doing, he challenges them and escapes their clutches, seemingly simply because it's in his stubborn nature (and perhaps related to his "true" identity).

but he stops thinking. he doesn't build a case or try to justify it. he doesn't change anything, he doesn't protect or save anyone but himself. in the end, he swallows down the family's poison, thinking he was naive and childish for leaving. and of course, beatrice who knows little more than her cage, torn between contempt and appreciation for it, is going to push and prod at him, trying to make him remember why he left in the first place, and why he left her there. you were the only one who got your head above the water, but you didn't even realize you were breathing for the first time!

just as a matter of my personal opinion about Breaking The Cycles, i feel like a big point is that ultimately you have to be the one to break it yourself. it would be kind of lame if he just white knight saved her--but i think it's extremely understandable that a big part of her wants that.

it's hard to move away from an abusive narrative when your vantage point is so limited (remember the talk about seeing things from multiple perspectives to create a 3D composite?). beatrice's endless magic is the limitless power she has to consider everything that happened and make sense of it. but it's coated in mysticism, in kinzo's magic explanations. because it's endless, it's also inescapable. she's looking for an "out", and battler seems like one, so intent on denial. but i think with her resignation from the game, she's lost faith in him. she's retreating into her role. i'm losing my train of thought here but yeah

i think this is... really missing the specifics of who these characters are, the identity switches and so on, but i do think that it's an emotional narrative that has some credence.

beatrice has multiple selves, some fawning and some fighting, and struggles to resolve the various truths of her existence. reflected in the eyes of someone so intent to challenge everything she is, there's the opportunity that he might cut through and excise the internalized narratives that keep her chained to her role(s). but as we get through episode 4, it's clearer that he simply can't see her, he doesn't even understand the game he's playing--its emotional component, the motives. It isn't about what actually logically happened, it's about what those various speculations mean about who we are and who we can become.

ANIMAL CROSSING

i like animal crossing, i kinda forgot that i did, i used to play the gamecube version on dolphin a loooot and when my dad's friend gave their DS Lite im pretty sure?????? to us so my dad could homebrew it i used to play a loooot of wild world. But i kinda stopped because i fucked up my gamecube savefile with cheats and my dad had to eventually give back the DS so i kinda forgot about the game

UNTIL RECENTLY.

I noticed that Wild World was actually on the Wii U Virtual Console, so i kinda installed it and forgot about it, until one day i was like "sure ill try it out" and so i did try it out, and i kinda loved it. Then i decided to abandon my Wild World save and instead play City Folk on dolphin, because of the new features and whatever (I didnt knew the game was badly reviewed) and after learning the dolpihin default keyboard maps and getting used to using my mouse while playing, its a lot of fun, and thats the versiuon im playing currently. Animal Crossing is such a fun game for me, doing silly tasks and silly things and donating to the museum and fishing was always fun for me, even if I forget a lot of the stuff I was planning or asked to do becvause of my shit memory. So yeaaaaahh, heres some screenshots featuring an UNITRES Dreams inspired pattern and just Unlimited Trees as a flag.

Btw my town is named B.Scotch (because I named the Wild World town Cinnamon nad its an epic undertale reference) and my town's theme its the first notes of level1 from the Petscop OST (because I read a comment that had the notes and I decided it would be pretty wacky)

I am at Family Thing and I made the wonderful decision to bring bowling alley carpet (my small clown doll, the sort with the porcelain face and soft body?) and they’re just sitting on the table staring at people! This was a good decision
