It's Ember! She/her. Silly ol' blog mainly for my silly ol’ fictional interests! I like to analyze characters and plotpoints. Pleased to meet ya! :D (pfp is that one time the Empire State Building turned itself red because Taylor Swift released Red: Taylor’s Version)

i don't like most of the rent live changes but this is something I think about quite a bit tbh. by the end of 1992 all that will be left of angel is mark's videos of her. maybe all that's left of mimi, too, depending on how long she lives after tge end of the show. by the end of 1993 there's a pretty good chance that all that'll be left of collins and roger will be mark's videos too.

As somebody who loved RENT and then changed my mind (and then changed my mind again once I developed media literacy), I’m convinced most people who hate this show either fundamentally don’t understand what it was supposed to be about and the context of its creation, don’t know what an unreliable narrator is, or have only seen the movie.
Literally every “critique” I see of this show is the point. Jonathan Larson did not set out to write a show about perfect, heroic people who always save the day and who are always right, he wrote a show about his friends, his past roommates, the type of people that he met in real life while living in those artsy, bo-ho neighborhoods of New York City in the 80s. It’s semi-autobiographical, it’s a self-critique. And that’s what I feel people don’t take into account when they make a trillion video essays about how the characters in RENT are bad people and therefore it’s a bad show.
#idk where this came from I’ve just had Out Tonight stuck in my head for three days#and have lowkey been looping the rent on broadway soundtrack since bc it slaps

Hit with a sudden heap of devastation for Kayce Dutton bc what do you mean he lost nearly his entire family. He was the baby of the family and harbored so much love for those people and then watched nearly all of them horrifically die one-by-one. And then the same thing happened with his wife’s family, both of his siblings-in-law, and he blamed himself for that, too. And then he lost his own son. Still so young but Death follows Kayce Dutton. I’m gonna lose it.
#he was already haunted by the deaths he witnessed at war#and now to top it off literally almost all of his family 😭😭#yellowstone#kayce dutton

“I never thought this day would come, but here it is.”
“You’re going to rehab! ☺️☺️”
Yellowstone season 1 was a comedy.
Actually no the thing I mourn the most is that they got rid of the snarky back-and-forth dynamic that Beth and Jamie had in season 1. Like they were literally hilarious why would Taylor Sheridan nerf them like that. Give Beth back her humor and Jamie back his comeback ability 2024 ❗️❗️

Ok but nothing will ever be funnier than the thumbnail for the Yellowstone Father’s Day video being John and Jamie. But like it being specifically the scene where John has to talk Jamie down from the suicide attempt that John goaded him into. Like, yes, the epitome of good fathers 😭😭

I like to think Teeter kept the bear forever, and no matter how small her bed, and whatever the other cowboys might think, she hugged it when she felt alone, sniffing into it, the bear's soft fur wet from her tears.
Poor, poor Teeter. She lost her partner, her friends, her job and her forever home, to go work for a man who clearly disrespects her. All the guys at the Yellowstone Ranch, and even John, joked about the way she speaks, but you can see from her crestfallen expression when he tells her to learn to speak better Travis' words didn't sound like good-naturedly, friendly jabs.
I'd love to be proved wrong, since apparently there'll be a spin-off, but I doubt she'll enjoy working at the 6666.
#SHE LITERALLY LOST EVERYTHING#just to go work for some douchebag who treats her awfully#poor teeter man 😭😭

a lot of really annoying media discourse on tumblr comes down to people having a hard time accepting that both of the following are true at the same time:
for any work of fiction interesting enough to be worth talking about, there will be multiple equally plausible and valid interpretations that are possible - and by interpretations here i don't just mean headcanons about minor details, i mean how you read the core themes and character arcs. and very often some of those equally valid interpretations will directly contradict each other and that's ok
not EVERY interpretation is valid, some are genuinely just dumb as hell and unsupported by the text

Jamie tensing up and drawing back when John touches his face in S1E3 so basically the moral of this show is and always has been John Dutton Sucks So Much All My Homies Hate John Dutton

Honestly I think the most tragic part about it all is how hard Jamie tried to be a cycle-breaker, how desperately he wanted to stop the chain of abuse and generational trauma and be there for his son. One of the times in the show where we see him at his absolute happiest is when he’s holding his infant son for the first time, and then we keep seeing him try to bond with James in any way he can. He was so excited to be the type of father John could never be for him, taking time out of his political office job to go play with his son in the field. always smiling, being so so careful and gentle with him. The dialogue even said it, Jamie never had any good role models on how to be a father but he was determined to be a good one for his kid. He distanced from the Duttons, kept his son a secret from all of them (even Kayce) to ensure he would never be swept up in all their drama.
Jamie just wanted to break the cycle and put that nasty aspect of John’s legacy in the dirt for good, and now his child will grow up in a world that perpetuates a myth that his dad ran away from him and disappeared, even when that dad, who once had nothing to live for, fought so damn hard to stay alive to give his boy the childhood he himself never got.

7 and 41!!!!!!!!!!!!
7. Who is your favorite musical theatre actor?
This is like actually a really difficult one because I’m trying to go off the “actor” part of this question and think of who I adore-acting wise. I will say I’ve always adored Keaton Whittaker’s version of the Destruction in Carrie and her acting skills and choices absolutely blow me away every single time. I also love Christy Altomare a whole lot (I promise I didn’t intend to include two Carrie actors I was also thinking abt her Anastasia performance lol). It also feels like a bit of a cop-out to say Jeremy Jordan but I mean. Come on. He nails it every time 😭
41. Share an unpopular opinion on musical theatre.
Ok so this one isn’t really like a, take I have on musicals in general because I fully acknowledge that this is solely just me and my personal taste but. I’ve just never really been a big fan of musicals where the format is a small group of people all having individual solos and then having like, one big group number at the end. Like I Know everybody loves RTC a lot, but I’ve just never really been able to get behind it for that reason (same with Six and Putnam, although I do like Putnam a bit more than most shows in this genre). I love me my ensemble and small group numbers.
