omg i actually love your work, could you make a patrick x fem! reader with the one bed trope? like maybe the bus broke down during a tour and the other guys got rooms before they did, and there’s only one room left, with only one bed. doesn’t have to be anything suggestive, i just love seeing a flustered patrick 🤭🤭🤭
OMG!! One bed tropes are my absolute favourite!! There'll be a BUNCH of fluffy stuff and flustered Patrick, just like you asked. Thank you so much for this ask!
(*Might* make a suggestive NSFW kinda version of this but keep the story kind of the same because I just want to.. take this with a grain of salt..)
Just One Bed?
Patrick Stump x Gn! Reader
Summary; It was halfway through the tour, and halfway to the next city, but just to everyone's luck, the bus had some unfortunate issues. Needing everyone out of the bus to be fixed, you found the cheapest motel, and just to yours and Patrick's luck, you two had to share a room, and a bed.
Notes; I love pre-hiatus Patrick so much you have no idea, so let's just say around Infinity? Anyway, it's currently December as I'm starting this so it's been put off for a while😭
Warnings; Just foul language.
•❅──────✧❅✦❅✧──────❅•
Everyone was sitting on the small tour bus couch, or a pulled up dining chair, with a game of Monopoly set up on the small "dinner" table you had in there.
"You owe me 100! You landed on my property, Patrick!" Pete bickered.
"No I don't! It's only set at 50, look at the card, dude!"
You sipped on your soda as you watched the two fight. You'd assume that they'd be more mature, but honestly, Monopoly tended to bring out the absolute worst in everyone. Your family was another good example of this.
"Patrick, just give Pete the 100 so we can get going with the game." Joe groans.
"That's not fair though! It's 50 and I know it's 50, he's just laundering money! I'm not giving him a fucking 100!" Patrick exclaims, making it sound like Pete was commiting actual crimes in the game.
Well.. he was, to be fair.
"Pete, you're getting 50 less, just take the 50 or you're not getting anything, we need to continue the game." You sigh.
"You're only saying that because Patrick's your favourite.." Pete pouts.
You shoot a glare at him and continue sipping your soda.
Patrick picks a 50 out of his stack and hands it to Pete. Pete takes it and puts it into his very messy and unorganised stack of the fake paper bills.
"Finally.. It's your turn now, Joe." You sigh.
These past 30 minutes into the game have been nothing but unhappy groans and sighs. Didn't help everyone was tired, but Pete suggested some "bonding time", that didn't seem to be going too well so far.
Joe picks up the set of dice and throws it onto the board. Only for them to be completely knocked off the table along with other pieces on the board. A large bump going along with it.
"Dammit! We can't do shit!" Joe curses.
A hiss and sputter come from the left side of the bus, making your face scrunch up in confusion.
"What the hell was that? Do you guys hear that?" You ask as you look around at the scattered pieces and spilt can of soda on the floor. That's gonna be annoying to clean with a paper towel.
"Guess that means we can sleep, goodnight." Andy says, throwing his fake paper bills carelessly on the table and walking off.
You sigh and get up from your seat, going up to ask the drivers what had happened, only to find them outside.
"Uh, hey, do you guys know what happened?" You ask.
"Well, we hit a pothole on the way and it ended up popping our front left tire, and it's pretty bad. I don't know how long it's going to take for us to get this fixed." The driver explains.
"Will we still be able to sleep here?"
"Probably not. Everyone will probably have to end up getting a place to stay for the night. We'll be lucky if we're even able to get back on the road on time tomorrow morning."
You nod and go back into the bus, poking your head in to see Pete and Patrick arguing about something.
"Hey, guys. So, the bus's tire popped so we kinda have to find somewhere to stay." You explain.
"What? Can't we just stay in here?" Joe asks.
You pull your lips into a thin line and shake your head, earning a groan from him.
"I talked to Rickey and he said we'll have to get rooms. I didn't argue with him, he's the one driving. If I had a choice to stay here, I would."
You sit back down in your seat and sigh. You were already so tired, and to hear that you would have to wait even longer to sleep frustrated you. You already knew you were going to be grumpy tomorrow morning.
"I don't think anyone has any connections to anyone here, huh?" Joe asks.
Everyone looks at each other, shaking their heads with a sigh.
"So we're gonna have to find a motel or something? Where even is the nearest one?" You look around.
Patrick pulls out his computer and looks for a while, eventually turning it around and showing everyone else the screen.
"I don't know, guys. The nearest one is kinda far away, like, I'm talking 100 some miles far." He explains
"How would we even get there? I think right now the bus will only get us so far, and we obviously can't walk.."
"You guys know taxis exist, right? Just call one over here, y'know." Pete shrugs.
"Wow, Pete. That's actually the smartest thing you've said all day, good job." Joe snickers.
Pete kicks him from under the table, earning a hiss and glare from Joe.
You felt bad that no one ever took Pete seriously sometimes, but with some of the shit that he's pulled over the period of time you've known them, it was for a decent reason.
"I'll call one now. Y/n, do you think you can go get Andy?" Patrick asks, dialing a number into his phone.
You walk into the sleeping quarters and go to Andy's bunk, pulling open the curtain to wake him up.
"Dude.. I'm trying to sleep." Andy groans, covering his face with his arm.
"We have to leave. The bus broke down and needs to be taken to a shop or something, so we have to find a place to stay. Patrick's calling to see if he can get a cab to come out here right now." You explain before going back into the living area, leaving Andy to be.
"..yes, yeah, it's just on the left shoulder of the road. Alright, thank you." Patrick says, before hanging up his phone.
"I take it you guys got a cab?"
"Yup. Joe found a motel close by, too. The cab should be here in about 20 minutes." Patrick says, turning his attention towards you.
You hum and go back into the sleeping quarters, packing a small tote bag with "pajamas" (which in reality was just an old pair of sweatpants from high school and a T-shirt from when the band was just starting out.) and an outfit for tomorrow.
The boys did the same, all but Pete's put in a similar manner. Joe picked his clothes and folded them, Patrick and Andy did the same.
"Hey, can I put my clothes in your bag? I don't wanna carry them," Pete asks with a yawn.
You look at him and roll your eyes with a sigh, "Sure. Toss it in there," You say, pushing the bag closer to him with your foot.
"Awesome! You're the man, Y/n," Pete exclaims.
You liked his enthusiasm, though with your state of tiredness you frankly found it a bit irritating.
You bounced your leg up and down impatiently and yawned. You were really tired. The one night that Pete decided to "make" everyone stay up later to bond, is the one night where you have to stay up even later just to wait for a cab to come out to seemingly the middle of nowhere.
The 20 minutes you waited soon felt like hours, each second feeling more like a minute.
Once the cab finally arrived, all of you tiredly grabbed your bags and exited the bus. Putting your bags into the trunk before cramming into the backseat of the car with Andy sitting in the front.
"Where to?" The cab driver asked, turning to Andy.
"The nearest motel if you can."
The driver nodded and began onto the road.
Pete grumbled and complained the whole time about not being able to get the front. And while you would typically get annoyed at this, you totally got where he was coming from. Four adults crammed into the backseat of a small car wasn't something that would typically be comfortable.
Halfway through the ride you felt yourself nodding off, and after trying your best to keep your eyes open, you finally gave in, leaning onto the shoulder of the person on your left.
----------------------------------
"...Y/n, wake up. Hey,"
You were awoken by your shoulder being gently shaken and a voice.
Your eyes flutter open and you yawn looking up to see Patrick with a sleepy look on his face.
"We're at the motel. We gotta get out so the cab driver can go, you can sleep when you get your room, okay? I'll help you with your stuff." He says, helping you out.
"No, I'm.. I should be fine," you say, stopping halfway to yawn.
Once you come out of your sleepy state, you get your wallet out of your back pocket and grab a 20 dollar bill, handing it to the cab driver as an apology for not only the long drive, but also staying extra because of you.
You quietly walk with Patrick to the check in office, your feet dragging along.
You put an arm over your face and squint, the fluorescent lights that laminated the room hurt your eyes and you were able to hear the buzzing of it. It smelt of cheap car air fresheners, on top of something else you couldn't quite place your finger on that those air fresheners were failing to cover.
Patrick cleared his throat, trying to get the attention of the person behind the counter.
"Yes?" The clerk says, looking up from his magazine.
"Um, can we just get two single bed rooms for one night?" Patrick asks awkwardly.
The clerk rolls his eyes and gets up, looking at the keys for the rooms.
"There's only one single bed room left,"
Your eyes widen and you look at Patrick, then back at the man.
"Are you sure there aren't any available rooms left? Not even one?" You ask.
"What do you think. They're all booked, okay? Do you want the room or not?" The man said, an annoyed, tired expression on his face.
"Yeah, we'll take it." Patrick abruptly says.
"Patrick–"
"Here's the key. Room 014. Enjoy your stay, the bed is real firm," The man says, handing Patrick the motel keys. "Check out time tomorrow is 12:10pm or earlier,"
"Okay, have a great night." Patrick bids the man a goodnight and walks out with you.
The two of you walk up the room and open it. It smelt of musk and had cobwebs in the corner of the room, indicating it hasn't been occupied or cleaned in a while.
You and Patrick place your bags on the floor. "I'm, uh.. I'm going to go and change in the bathroom, okay? Let me know when you're finished,"
You turn to him, "Alright. I shouldn't take too long. Thank you, Pat," You reply.
That nickname started about a month into the first tour you went along with the band. Apparently according to Joe, he never let anyone call him that. But with you, it was an entirely different story. He could never help but blush when you called him that, because it was only you that did. That he allowed you to.
He nods and looks away to try and hide the ferocious blush that was startinv to go up to his ears and goes through his bag to find his pajamas. Which, just like you, was just a random shirt and pajama pants. Batman pajama pants.
You smile at the choice of his and do the same and change into your own pajamas, but as you do so halfway, you notice that a plastic bag was in your bag.
Pete left his stuff.
You sigh and finish getting ready and take the bag out before knocking on the restroom door.
"Hey, Patrick. I'm finished so you can come out if you are, too. Pete left his bag in mine so I'm gonna go take it to him,"
Patrick opens the door, his hair messy presumably from changing into a new shirt.
"You know which room they're in?" Patrick asks.
"Nope, I'll just knock on every door until I find him," You joke.
"I don't think that's a very good idea, Y/n," Patrick responded seriously.
"I was just joking. I'll text Andy since he's most likely to respond. He was in the check-in room with Joe and Pete so he should know,"
--------------------------------------
You walk over to the room Pete and Joe were staying in, seems like Andy and me and Patrick were the ones that got stuck with the single bed rooms. Andy on the other hand was luckier.
You knocked on the door, the plastic bag in your hand crinkling, waiting for the door to open.
"Y/n! You're a life saver, I thought I was going to have to sleep in my jeans," Pete exclaimed.
You look at him, your brows furrowed and a slight smirk on your face, "Haven't you done that before, though? I mean, I could list a bunch of weird crazy shit you've done more than once,"
Pete rolls his eyes and takes the bag from your hands, "Have fun sleeping with Patrick, he snores!" he says, sticking out his tounge before shutting the door.
You stood there flustered. How the hell did he know?
You flinch at the noise and huff, turning around and walking back to the room you and Patrick would be staying in.
'Shit, the key,' You think to yourself as I feel my pockets and noticed the key was no longer with me. 'I hope I didn't drop it.'
You knock on the door and wait, hoping that Patrick wasn't asleep yet. A more neatly, put together Patrick opens the door and lets you in after realizing it was you.
"I think I forgot the key in here," You laugh as you look on both nightstands, then the desk, and finally the restroom, you were unable to find it.
"God I'm too tired for this right now.." You groan.
'I'll find it later in the morning.'
"It's 3:22 am, I'm pretty sure that's normal," Patrick laughs before laying a pillow down the middle of the small bed and getting under the covers.
You turned off the lights and got under the covers which were unfortunately itchy and left you a little cold, though struggling to not fall off due to the lack of open space. You would just have to deal with it unfortunately.
But you couldn't.
You closed your eyes over and over again trying to make yourself fall asleep. You turned and tossed, you counted sheep, listened to the sound of your breathing and heartbeat for about 10 minutes already, now you've been staring at the ceiling as if that would help.
"Patrick, are you awake?" You asked looking to the right of you to see him doing the same as you.
"Yeah. Can't sleep for some reason," Patrick sighs and turns to his side facing you.
"I don't have any space, I think I'm going to fall off," You giggle.
Patrick hesitates for a second before saying, "I can take the pillow off from the middle,"
You think about it for a second but before you could even think rationally and just deal with it, you automatically blurt out, "That'd be awesome."
Once he removes the pillow and tosses it on the floor, you scoot in a little closer, now facing him.
You could feel the warmth radiating off of him and you were suddenly no longer as cold as before.
"Alright, um, goodnight Pat. See you in the morning," You clear your throat and turn back around.
"Goodnight, Y/n."
You still couldn't sleep. You stared at the red glow coming off of the alarm clock and watched the minutes passing by.
3:57 am.
You couldn't take it. You were so tired yet you found trouble sleeping.
"Y/n, you okay?"
You turn around once more, just as you'd been doing multiple times. "Yeah, still can't sleep is all,"
For the second time you turn towards him.
"What's on your mind?"
You thought you had no clue what was on your mind. But as soon as he asked that question you knew why.
You were sleeping in the same bed as Patrick. The same Patrick you'd had this "little" crush on since 2002. 5 years.
"Just.. stuff I guess." You said, voice slightly above a whisper.
Now that you knew exactly why you couldn't sleep, everything about him started to flood your mind and senses. The way he smelt of the remanants of a cheap cologne, the way his breath tickled your nose, the way his eyes looked in the moonlight that ever so slightly lit up the room, the way you could hear his heartbeat, the same bpm as most of the band's songs.
"Want to talk about it?"
You shook your head and thanked him for the offer, "what's on yours?"
Patrick was glad that the room was near completely dark, as once again his face began to flush, though his heartbeat quickened.
"Uh- I don't know. Nothing really," He lied.
A long, awkward silence occurred as the both of you looked into each other's eyes, averting them at times.
You hesitated for a long while, "Can I just like, I dunno, get a little closer to you or something," Now this one was more bold. "Maybe hold me?"
You immediately flushed and so had Patrick. The heat could be counted as a high fever if you were to check it.
Patrick scooted closer you you and brought you closer to his chest, his arms wrapped around you.
You closed your eyes and let out a breath of relief, one that you didn't know you were even holding.
"Thanks, Pat." You smile.
"No problem, N/n, goodnight." He responds with a yawn.
You felt a sudden calm and began to drift off to sleep. To be met with dreams and a sudden dread that you'll soon wake up.
--------------------------------------
You wake with a sudden pounding on the door, still being trapped in Patrick's embrace.
"Y/n! Patrick! Wake up before I open the goddamn door!"
You tried to pull out and pry Patrick's arms around you, but he could sleep through a nuclear war unfortunately.
You hear the jingling of the lock and Pete barges in along with the rest of the boys.
"Oh, dude no way! You guys actually went for it!" Pete exclaims, pointing a finger at you and Patrick.
"This isn't what it looks like, Pete," You groan, still attempting to pry yourself out. "Someone wake him up please,"
All three of them snicker.
Pete walks over and puts his finger in his mouth and sticking it in Patrick's ear, giving him a wet willy.
Patrick flinches and lets you go, slapping away Pete's hand, "Dude! What the hell!"
You quickly get up and get out of the bed, standing at the end of it awkwardly as Joe and Andy gave you a knowing look.
"Um, I'm just gonna go- change. In the bathroom." You clear your throat and grab your tote, speedwalking to the door and shutting it.
You quickly get ready and we're able to hear bickering from the other side of the door. You sigh before opening the door, only to be met with Pete running towards you and placing his hands on your shoulder, shaking them.
"Did you guys do it?"
You squinched up your face and pushed him away from you, "What? No, dude. I slept in the same bed as him, but not with him, are you gross??"
"You know me, but I think Andy might secretly be worse," Pete says, whispering the last part.
You were grouchy and tired. It was 8am and you had only gotten four hours of sleep at the most, compared to the 7 or 8 you guys usually get.
"Out, now." You said, pointing to Pete, Andy, and Joe.
"Oh, so Patrick gets to stay but we don't? Favouritism!" Joe says before leaving the room.
You pinch the bridge of your nose and exhale.
Patrick was awkwardly standing at the end of the bed, his glasses and hat still not on. You softly smile and grab them from his side of the nightstand and hand them to him.
"Thanks," He smiles as he gingerly takes them from your hands.
"No problem. You should really go and get ready, though."
Patrick does the same as you had before and takes his clothes to the bathroom to change. You clean up the very little mess that the both of you had left as he did so. Making the bed, tossing the plastic disposable cups that had been used for water, etc.
You didn't even bother to shower, not with how late all of you were already.
"Hey, so uh.. last night," You turn around and see Patrick fixing his cap.
"Oh.. I didn't make you like.. uncomfortable or anything right?" You say anxiously.
"No! No, not at all just- I dunno-" Patrick looks down at his feet and shrugs.
"Come on! Dudes, we gotta go, the bus has been here for like, 20 minutes already and we've been waiting on you two!" A voice met with some loud knocking interrupts the conversation.
You sigh and get your bag. You then realized that you still didn't have the key to the room.
"Hey, Patrick? Do you have the key?"
He shakes his head.
"Fuck.."
"Open the damn door or I will! We gotta go!" Joe shouts.
'Oh, they have it..'
You swing open the door, "Give the goddamn key back, Joe," You demand.
Joe mutters something and hands you the key.
"Found it.."
Patrick laughs and exits out the door and you follow, taking the key and locking it before leaving.
All five of you check out and go onto the bus, Rickey clearly annoyed that everyone was late.
"It was their fault." Joe says, pointing to you and Patrick as he enters the bus.
"Oh shut it Joe. Sorry, Rickey. Had some trouble waking up." You apologise.
"Yeah right!" Pete shouts.
You roll your eyes and enter the bus, going to the small couch and placing your bag onto the floor carelessly.
You were exhausted. If everyone was lucky they'd get to the venue early enough to practice a little bit before soundcheck.
Patrick sits next to you, discarding his bag the same as you had just done before.
"God, I'm so tired.." He yawns.
"Take a nap then, Pat."
He puts an arm on the back of the couch and closes his eyes as he puts his cap over them.
"Hey, Y/n?"
"Yeah?" You look at him, his eyes droopy from still being tired.
"Last night didn't make anything weird between us, right?" Patrick says, tipping his cap up.
You let out a breathy laugh, "I asked this literally 10 minutes ago. Didn't you say it was fine? I mean- is it.. fine..?" You second guess yourself.
"I mean, I think it's fine.. more than.. fine?"
You give a sly smirk and nudge him with your arm, "What do you mean by "more than fine"?" You ask.
Though some false confidence showed, you tried your best to not let your voice falter.
The same practically was happening for Patrick. He was so easy to fluster and flush, it was impossible to even attempt hiding it due to the lit up "living room."
The same "I don't know's" repeated, and you still awaited an answer.
You lay your head down on his shoulder and feel his body tense up and quickly relax again.
His arm wraps around your shoulder and pulls you in closer, closer like he had done last night.
Last night.
--------------------------------------
I finished this to the best I could, and totally put it off for ages, so I apologise, man😭😭😭

2023 september - rock sound #300 (fall out boy cover) scans
transcript below cut!
WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE
With the triumphant ‘So Much (For) Stardust’ capturing a whole new generation of fans, Fall Out Boy are riding high, celebrating their past while looking towards a bright future. Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump reflect on recent successes and the lessons learned from two decades of writing and performing together.
WORDS: James Wilson-Taylor PHOTOS: Elliot Ingham
You have just completed a US summer tour that included stadium shows and some of your most ambitious production to date. What were your aims going into this particular show?
PETE: Playing stadiums is a funny thing. I pushed pretty hard to do a couple this time because I think that the record Patrick came up with musically lends itself to that feeling of being part of something larger than yourself. When we were designing the cover to the album, it was meant to be all tangible, which was a reaction to tokens and skins that you can buy and avatars. The title is made out of clay, and the painting is an actual painting. We wanted to approach the show in that way as well. We’ve been playing in front of a gigantic video wall for the past eight years. Now, we wanted a stage show where you could actually walk inside it.
Did adding the new songs from ‘So Much (For) Stardust’ into the setlist change the way you felt about them?
PATRICK: One of the things that was interesting about the record was that we took a lot of time figuring out what it was going to be, what it was going to sound like. We experimented with so many different things. I was instantly really proud. I felt really good about this record but it wasn’t until we got on stage and you’re playing the songs in between our catalogue that I really felt that. It was really noticeable from the first day on this tour - we felt like a different band. There’s a new energy to it. There was something that I could hear live that I couldn’t hear before.
You also revisited a lot of older tracks and b-sides on this tour, including many from the ‘Folie à Deux’-era. What prompted those choices?
PETE: There were some lean years where there weren’t a lot of rock bands being played on pop radio or playing award shows so we tried to play the biggest songs, the biggest versions of them. We tried to make our thing really airtight, bulletproof so that when we played next to whoever the top artist was, people were like, ‘oh yeah, they should be here.’ The culture shift in the world is so interesting because now, maybe rather than going wider, it makes more sense to go deeper with people. We thought about that in the way that we listen to music and the way we watch films. Playing a song that is a b-side or barely made a record but is someone’s favourite song makes a lot of sense in this era. PATRICK: I think there also was a period there where, to Pete’s point, it was a weird time to be a rock band. We had this very strange thing that happened to us, and not a lot of our friends for some reason, where we had a bunch of hits, right? And it didn’t make any sense to me. It still doesn’t make sense to me. But there was a kind of novelty, where we could play a whole set of songs that a lot of people know. It was fun and rewarding for us to do that. But then you run the risk of playing the same set forever. I want to love the songs that we play. I want to care about it and put passion into what we do. And there’s no sustainable way to just do the same thing every night and not get jaded. We weren’t getting there but I really wanted to make sure that we don’t ever get there. PETE: In the origin of Fall Out Boy, what happened at our concerts was we knew how to play five songs really fast and jumped off walls and the fire marshal would shut it down. It was what made the show memorable, but we wanted to be able to last and so we tried to perfect our show and the songs and the stage show and make it flawless. Then you don’t really know how much spontaneity you want to include, because something could go wrong. When we started this tour, and we did a couple of spontaneous things, it opened us up to more. Because things did go wrong and that’s what made the show special. We’re doing what is the most punk rock version of what we could be doing right now.
You seem generally a lot more comfortable celebrating your past success at this point in your career.
PETE: I think it’s actually not a change from our past. I love those records, but I never want to treat them in a cynical way. I never want there to be a wink and a smile where we’re just doing this because it’s the anniversary. This was us celebrating these random songs and we hope people celebrate them with us. There was a purity to it that felt in line with how we’ve always felt about it. I love ‘Folie à Deux’ - out of any Fall Out Boy record that’s probably the one I would listen to. But I just never want it to be done in a cynical way, where we feel like we have to. But celebrating it in a way where there’s the purity of how we felt when we wrote the song originally, I think that’s fucking awesome. PATRICK: Music is a weird art form. Because when you’re an actor and you play a character, that is a specific thing. James Bond always wears a suit and has a gun and is a secret agent. If you change one thing, that’s fine, but you can’t really change all of it. But bands are just people. You are yourself. People get attached to it like it’s a story but it’s not. That was always something that I found difficult. For the story, it’s always good to say, ‘it’s the 20th anniversary, let’s go do the 20th anniversary tour’, that’s a good story thing. But it’s not always honest. We never stopped playing a lot of the songs from ‘Take This To Your Grave’, right? So why would I need to do a 20-year anniversary and perform all the songs back to back? The only reason would be because it would probably sell a lot of tickets and I don’t really ever want to be motivated by that, frankly. One of the things that’s been amazing is that now as the band has been around for a while, we have different layers of audience. I love ‘Folie à Deux’, I do. I love that record. But I had a really personally negative experience of touring on it. So that’s what I think of when I think of that record initially. It had to be brought back to me for me to appreciate it, for me to go, ‘oh, this record is really great. I should be happy with this. I should want to play this.’ So that’s why we got into a lot of the b-sides because we realised that our perspectives on a lot of these songs were based in our feelings and experiences from when we were making them. But you can find new experiences if you play those songs. You can make new memories with them.
You alluded there to the 20th anniversary of ‘Take This To Your Grave’. Obviously you have changed and developed as a band hugely since then. But is there anything you can point to about making that debut record that has remained a part of your process since then?
PETE: We have a language, the band, and it’s definitely a language of cinema and film. That’s maintained through time. We had very disparate music tastes and influences but I think film was a place we really aligned. You could have a deep discussion because none of us were filmmakers. You could say which part was good and which part sucked and not hurt anybody’s feelings, because you weren’t going out to make a film the next day. Whereas with music, I think if we’d only had that to talk about, we would have turned out a different band. PATRICK: ‘Take This To Your Grave’, even though it’s absolutely our first record, there’s an element of it that’s still a work in progress. It is still a band figuring itself out. Andy wasn’t even officially in the band for half of the recording, right? I wasn’t even officially the guitar player for half of the recording. We were still bumbling through it. There was something that popped up a couple times throughout that record where you got these little inklings of who the band really was. We really explored that on ‘From Under The Cork Tree’. So when we talk about what has remained the same… I didn’t want to be a singer, I didn’t know anything about singing, I wasn’t planning on that. I didn’t even plan to really be in this band for that long because Pete had a real band that really toured so I thought this was gonna be a side project. So there’s always been this element within the band where I don’t put too many expectations on things and then Pete has this really big ambition, creatively. There’s this great interplay between the two of us where I’m kind of oblivious, and I don’t know when I’m putting out a big idea and Pete has this amazing vision to find what goes where. There’s something really magical about that because I never could have done a band like this without it. We needed everybody, we needed all four of us. And I think that’s the thing that hasn’t changed - the four of us just being ourselves and trying to figure things out. Listening back to ‘Folie’ or ‘Infinity On High’ or ‘American Beauty’, I’m always amazed at how much better they are than I remember. I listened to ‘MANIA’ the other day, and I have a lot of misgivings about that record, a lot of things I’m frustrated about. But then I’m listening to it and I’m like ‘this is pretty good.’ There’s a lot of good things in there. I don’t know why, it’s kind of like you can’t see those things. It’s kind of amazing to have Pete be able to see those things. And likewise, sometimes Pete has no idea when he writes something brilliant, as a lyricist, and I have to go, ‘No, I’m gonna keep that one, I’m gonna use that.’
On ‘So Much (For) Stardust’, you teamed up with producer Neal Avron again for the first time since 2008. Given how much time has passed, did it take a minute to reestablish that connection or did you pick up where you left off?
PATRICK: It really didn’t feel like any time had passed between us and Neal. It was pretty seamless in terms of working with him. But then there was also the weird aspect where the last time we worked with him was kind of contentious. Interpersonally, the four of us were kind of fighting with each other… as much as we do anyway. We say that and then that myth gets built bigger than it was. We were always pretty cool with each other. It’s just that the least cool was making ‘Folie’. So then getting into it again for this record, it was like no time has passed as people but the four of us got on better so we had more to bring to Neal. PETE: It’s a little bit like when you return to your parents’ house for a holiday break when you’re in college. It’s the same house but now I can drink with my parents. We’d grown up and the first times we worked with Neal, he had to do so much more boy scout leadership, ‘you guys are all gonna be okay, we’re gonna do this activity to earn this badge so you guys don’t fucking murder each other.’ This time, we probably got a different version of Neal that was even more creative, because he had to do less psychotherapy. He went deep too. Sometimes when you’re in a session with somebody, and they’re like, ‘what are we singing about?’, I’ll just be like, ‘stuff’. He was not cool with ‘stuff’. I would get up and go into the bathroom outside the studio and look in the mirror, and think ‘what is it about? How deep are we gonna go?’ That’s a little but scarier to ask yourself. If last time Neal was like a boy scout leader, this time, it was more like a Sherpa. He was helping us get to the summit.
The title track of the album also finds you in a very reflective mood, even bringing back lyrics from ‘Love From The Other Side’. How would you describe the meaning behind that title and the song itself?
PETE: The record title has a couple of different meanings, I guess. The biggest one to me is that we basically all are former stars. That’s what we’re made of, those pieces of carbon. It still feels like the world’s gonna blow and it’s all moving too fast and the wrong things are moving too slow. That track in particular looks back at where you sometimes wish things had gone differently. But this is more from the perspective of when you’re watching a space movie, and they’re too far away and they can’t quite make it back. It doesn’t matter what they do and at some point, the astronaut accepts that. But they’re close enough that you can see the look on their face. I feel like there’s moments like that in the title track. I wish some things were different. But, as an adult going through this, you are too far away from the tether, and you’re just floating into space. It is sad and lonely but in some ways, it’s kind of freeing, because there’s other aspects of our world and my life that I love and that I want to keep shaping and changing. PATRICK: I’ll open up Pete’s lyrics and I just start hearing things. It almost feels effortless in a lot of ways. I just read his lyrics and something starts happening in my head. The first line, ‘I’m in a winter mood, dreaming of spring now’, instantly the piano started to form to me. That was a song that I came close to not sending to the band. When I make demos, I’ll usually wait until I have five or six to send to everybody. I didn’t know if anyone was gonna like this. It’s too moody or it’s not very us. But it was pretty unanimous. Everyone liked that one. I knew this had to end the record. It took on a different life in the context of the whole album. Then on the bridge section, I knew it was going to be the lyrics from ‘Love From The Other Side’. It’s got to come back here. It’s the bookends, but I also love lyrically what it does, you know, ‘in another life, you were my babe’, going back to that kind of regret, which feels different in ‘Love From The Other Side’ than it does here. When the whole song came together, it was the statement of the record.
Aside from the album, you have released a few more recent tracks that have opened you up to a whole new audience, most notably the collaboration with Taylor Swift on ‘Electric Touch’.
PETE: Taylor is the only artist that I’ve met or interacted with in recent times who creates exactly the art of who she is, but does it on such a mass level. So that’s breathtaking to watch from the sidelines. The way fans traded friendship bracelets, I don’t know what the beginning of it was, but you felt that everywhere. We felt that, I saw that in the crowd on our tour. I don’t know Taylor well, but I think she’s doing exactly what she wants and creating exactly the art that she wants to create. And doing that, on such a level, is really awe-inspiring to watch. It makes you want to make the biggest, weirdest version of our thing and put that out there.
Then there was the cover of Billy Joel’s ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire’, which has had some big chart success for you. That must have taken you slightly by surprise.
PATRICK: It’s pretty unexpected. Pete and I were going back and forth about songs we should cover and that was an idea that I had. This is so silly but there was a song a bunch of years ago I had written called ‘Dark Horse’ and then there was a Katy Perry song called ‘Dark Horse’ and I was like, ‘damn it’, you know, I missed the boat on that one. So I thought if we don’t do this cover, somebody else is gonna do it. Let’s just get in the studio and just do it. We spent way more time on those lyrics than you would think because we really wanted to get a specific feel. It was really fun and kind of loose, we just came together in Neal’s house and recorded it in a day. PETE: There’s irreverence to it. I thought the coolest thing was when Billy Joel got asked about it, and he was like, ‘I’m not updating it, that’s fine, go for it.’ I hope if somebody ever chose to update one of ours, we’d be like that. Let them do their thing, they’ll have that version. I thought that was so fucking cool.
It’s also no secret that the sound you became most known for in the mid-2000s is having something of a commercial revival right now. But what is interesting is seeing how bands are building on that sound and changing it.
PATRICK: I love when anybody does anything that feels honest to them. Touring with Bring Me The Horizon, it was really cool seeing what’s natural to them. It makes sense. We changed our sound over time but we were always going to do that. It wasn’t a premeditated thing but for the four of us, it would have been impossible to maintain making the same kind of music forever. Whereas you’ll play with some other bands and they live that one sound. You meet up with them for dinner or something and they’re wearing the shirt of the band that sounds just like their band. You go to their house and they’re playing other bands that sound like them because they live in that thing. Whereas with the four of us and bands like Bring Me The Horizon, we change our sounds over time. And there’s nothing wrong with either. The only thing that’s wrong is if it’s unnatural to you. If you’re AC/DC and all of a sudden power ballads are in and you’re like, ‘Okay, we’ve got to do a power ballad’, that’s when it sucks. But if you’re a thrash metal guy who likes Celine Dion then yeah, do a power ballad. Emo as a word doesn’t mean anything anymore. But if people want to call it that, if the emo thing is back or having another life again, if that’s what’s natural to an artist, I think the world needs more earnest art. If that’s who you are, then do it. PETE: It would be super egotistical to think that the wave that started with us and My Chemical Romance and Panic! At The Disco has just been circling and cycling back. I remember seeing Nikki Sixx at the airport and he was like, ‘Oh, you’re doing a flaming bass? Mine came from a backpack.’ It keeps coming back but it looks different. Talking to Lil Uzi Vert and Juice WRLD when he was around, it’s so interesting, because it’s so much bigger than just emo or whatever. It’s this whole big pop music thing that’s spinning and churning, and then it moves on, and then it comes back with different aspects and some of the other stuff combined. When you’re a fan of music and art and film, you take different stuff, you add different ingredients, because that’s your taste. Seeing the bands that are up and coming to me, it’s so exciting, because the rules are just different, right? It’s really cool to see artists that lean into the weirdness and lean into a left turn when everyone’s telling you to make a right. That’s so refreshing. PATRICK: It’s really important as an artist gets older to not put too much stock in your own influence. The moment right now that we’re in is bigger than emo and bigger than whatever was happening in 2005. There’s a great line in ‘Downton Abbey’ where someone was asking the Lord about owning this manor and he’s like, ‘well, you don’t really own it, there have been hundreds of owners and you are the custodian of it for a brief time.’ That’s what pop music is like. You just have the ball for a minute and you’re gonna pass it on to somebody else.
We will soon see you in the UK for your arena tour. How do you reflect on your relationship with the fans over here?
PETE: I remember the first time we went to the UK, I wasn’t prepared for how culturally different it was. When we played Reading & Leeds and the summer festivals, it was so different, and so much deeper within the culture. It was a little bit of a shock. The first couple of times we played, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, are we gonna die?’ because the crowd was so crazy, and there was bottles. Then when we came back, we thought maybe this is a beast to be tamed. Finally, you realise it’s a trading of energy. That made the last couple of festivals we played so fucking awesome. When you really realise that the fans over there are real fans of music. It’s really awesome and pretty beautiful. PATRICK: We’ve played the UK now more than a lot of regions of the states. Pretty early on, I just clicked with it. There were differences, cultural things and things that you didn’t expect. But it never felt that different or foreign to me, just a different flavour… PETE: This is why me and Patrick work so well together (laughs). PATRICK: Well, listen; I’m a rainy weather guy. There is just things that I get there. I don’t really drink anymore all that much. But I totally will have a beer in the UK, there’s something different about every aspect of it, about the ordering of it, about the flavour of it, everything, it’s like a different vibe. The UK audience seemed to click with us too. There have been plenty of times where we felt almost more like a UK band than an American one. There have been years where you go there and almost get a more familial reaction than you would at home. Rock Sound has always been a part of that for us. It was one of the first magazines to care about us and the first magazine to do real interviews. That’s the thing, you would do all these interviews and a lot of them would be like ‘so where did the band’s name come from?’ But Rock Sound took us seriously as artists, maybe before some of us did. That actually made us think about who we are and that was a really cool experience. I think in a lot of ways, we wouldn’t be the band we are without the UK, because I think it taught us a lot about what it is to be yourself.
Fall Out Boy’s ‘So Much (For) Stardust’ is out now via Fueled By Ramen.

There's a smile as he sits down on the bottom step, knocking Ryan's knees slightly; a smile with straight, white teeth and an imperious mouth, one that gets imprinted into memory. He cups his hands around his lips and tilts his head. There's a brief orange glow and a lazy stream of smoke as Brendon asks, "So, what are you here for?"
"penises are for boys, vaginas are for girls, unless of course, something crazy happens. then anything's game." *fem ryan!
☆ Date Night *summary (ok not a summary, its an excerpt, live with it.): It’s almost like starting from scratch, even though they’ve been invading each other’s personal space on a fairly regular basis for a couple of years now. Carousel *this one’s a bit tough to tag the ships HAHA its gsf, ryden-leaning with jealous spencer, and also its MPREG (read the prequel linked in the notes), summary: "Don't do anything drastic before coffee. I don't want to miss it." huh! this one was strange too… do read it though, its interesting… a housemd crossover (kinda)
☆ ☆ All We Fear is All That Can Save Us *summary: Jon and Ryan still talk to Spencer, and Jon still talks to Brendon, but since that decision was made last May, Ryan and Brendon haven't really talked. And Brendon knows that he shouldn't be surprised that Ryan's here; after all, he's here and he's never been as, well, expressive about sex as Ryan has been. TWO STARS BC THIS FIC IS GENUINELY LIFE CHANGING. dom brendon and sub ryan post-split and its ough my GOD. read it read it NOWWW
Elsewhere *small hint of one-sided brencer, The Giver (novel) au, summary: According to Spencer, the Community is the way it is for the good of everyone. “Choices are dangerous,” he tells Brendon. “What if people were to choose the wrong thing?” ~20,000, this reawakened my childhood obsession with dystopian novels, give it a read!

Except under the pale light *wentzross, summary: Later, Pete will make pancakes. Maybe he'll bring Ryan along to the studio, maybe he'll let Ryan talk him into eyeliner again.
Walking Sideways Takes Longer, But You Get There Eventually *spyan, summary: Ryan tries to have a positive heteronormative influence on Spencer, but it doesn't go as planned, because come on! Who do you think you are kidding, Ryan Ross?
Dealing With Bullets *summary: “You know these words, though.” Brendon points out. Ryan just shrugs and says, “Yes, my mind does, but do my fingers?” Brendon thinks about the question for a long, long time. Three days later, Spencer is already asking about how Ryan got Brendon to be this quiet and would he mind sharing the secret?
pointy fucking shoes *this one’s kinda fucked up, so, summary: Ryan isn't sure who he is so he tries to forget.
☆ Back To The Place You Are *brendon/OFC but its ryden-centric and ryden endgame! summary: “He’s cute.” Brendon looks over at her, startled, and wonders if it’s all as obvious as it feels, if she can see it scrawled across his face after only talking to him for ten minutes. “He’s uh. He’s my band mate.” She smiles and nods like she knows there’s more to it than that, but doesn’t know him well enough to ask. really cute brendon character study sorta? its a good exploration of ryden’s relationship and its a happy ending =) readdd ittttt
I thought *summary: In the beginning, the Thing that Brendon and Ryan start up isn't supposed to be anything other than a way to relax and unwind. After awhile, Brendon stops being sure what it actually is, and what either of them want.
These Elegant Crimes *wentzross (technically its more petekey which has nothing to do w ryro but i digress, its a good fic!) summary: After his Summer of Like ends, Pete convinces himself that Ryan is what he needs. Pete's still got a few hang-ups, however, and that's made clearest when Infinity on High is produced. In other words: No one is getting what they need.
Hasselhoff *wentzross, jailbait ryan, summary: Pete Wentz can't seem to drink enough to have a good time at this rep party. The beer doesn't taste right, the band playing pretty much sucks, and everywhere he turns dumb teenagers shanghai him. But when one teen, a slight, brown-eyed boy, pops up, Pete can't help but feel something other than annoyance.
Like Light Ends, With a Z *ryden switch!! brendon gets bit by a chinchilla and enters a sex craze 😵💫😵💫
Clandestine *summary: Ryan doesn't expect Brendon to actually show up in New York at the show and he certainly doesn't expect what happens, only now he can't quite let go. the young veins postdivorce era fic!
I Am the Derivative and You Are the Curves *summary: Brendon’s good at math. Ryan isn’t. In fact, Ryan’s so bad, he needs a tutor. In fact, his tutor is Brendon. This, of course, leads to weekly meetings, but sushi breaks and local concerts follow, to costume parties and beer pong, first dates and thanksgiving break, and more than Ryan could've thought possible from someone with a stack of books that thick. theres some past jon/brendon
Acquiescence Hard Gained *actually a joncer fic, but theres SOME ryden and i love this fic so im reccing it anyway. summary: Spencer had the control. It took Jon a little longer to notice that perhaps Spencer didn’t want that role. d/s elements
Irrevocably Combined *summary: Wherein Ryan really just needs some time to figure a few things out. takes place after ryan’s dad dies
Meant It When I Said “The Pleasure Is Mine” *no fucking, just really intense rimming and YES
☆ The Width of a Circle *summary: An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted upon by an external and unbalanced force.' Patrick watches the pieces fall together. just, the sweetest fic ever. tells the story of ryden getting together through the eyes of patrick
Bedazzled (blinded by the light) *summary: Brendon is Ryan's canvas.
Synergy *gsf, summary: They weren't so much dating as simply existing.
☆ Ryan Ross’s Guide To Sex Positions *summary says it all tbh, summary: Ryan's favorite sex positions with all three of his boyfriends, and his favorite with all of them together, THIS FIC IS EVERYTHING IVE EVER WANTED
Asphyxiophilia *spyan, summary: Ryan discovered his biggest kink, the thing that could get him off the fastest, make him come the hardest, when he was almost too young to even understand what he was feeling. breathplay! super hot. underaged spencer though
How naptime can go horribly right *no summary but basically ryan wants to nap but brendon wants to fuck so he does!
Some Things We Can’t Escape *rockett, summary: Ryan knew exactly how Bill was 'sorry'; sorry for overstepping that mark, for making impossible feelings suddenly flare up from where the two boys had kept them buried, sorry for making it real. Unbearably, painfully, real. HOLYYY wow i love rockett so i love this fic so very very much
Cuffed *rosswald, summary: Ryan, Alex, handcuffs

☆ ash in your mouth *summary: Ryan just tilts his head, hands behind his back on the table, sweaty hair sticking to his forehead, make-up runny and smudgy, eyes alive, little pearl teeth biting his lips as if he’s holding something back. the end has a little kick to it.
Give Me Envy, Give Me Malice, Give Me Your Attention *summary: The aftermath of Brendon running into Ryan at the 2015 Halloween party.
A Fever You Can't Sweat Out *rycer (implied gsf), summary: Ryan has a strange affinity for sweat. And when I say affinity… sex pollen-esque
Hands Down *summary: Brendon is experimenting, but he doesn't know that Ryan is too.
Out of Tune *this fic is locked so you need an account to read it, summary: Brendon wakes up tone deaf. Ryan has no idea what to do. Maybe sex will fix it?
What We Have Is What We Will Be Given *summary: They finally have a hotel night, and Ryan's got everything planned, even if he's not the one in charge.
☆ No Object *wentzross, ryden switch, summary: The first blowjob Pete gets from Ryan is startlingly mediocre, considering that it's the kid's job.
Fucking like rabbits *summary: Ryan has been desperate for the whole show, Brendon is sweaty and in love, and their last song is a fucking love song. They really were reinventing love right on that stage. stage gay on another level
it's just flesh, it's just flesh *locked fic! summary: Ryan's mouth tastes sort of like the sour candy he got from the vending machine earlier, but mostly it's just hot and wet and warm. this one also has a lil kick! small kick
Drive Faster, Boy *summary: Ryan, Brendon, backseats, secrets.
☆ That Left a Mark *DUBCON (brendon is super drunk) summary: Alcohol initially serves as a stimulant, then induces feelings of relaxation and reduced anxiety. Consumption of two or three drinks in an hour can impair judgment, lower inhibitions, and induce mild euphoria.
An Unlikely Victorian Heroine *locked fic, summary: "You're like a Victorian heroine," Brendon says, rolling one bracelet over Ryan's hand to expose a little more skin, then another and another until he has a small pile on the bed. "Arms aren't supposed to get me so hot, Ross."
☆ How Did I Fall In Love With You? *summary: Bad things happen when Ryan reads fanfiction. i love meta fics like this
You Will Know The Difference When I Touch You *summary: It wasn’t a gay thing at first. Well, it was possible that Brendon had a tiny little crush on Ryan, but it was a buried thing in the back of his still-half-Mormon brain, emerging very slowly.
Two of Cups *the second part is gsf, summary: Spencer and Ryan are part of Pete's travelling circus. Jon and Brendon come for the show, but there's something about the place that keeps them coming back for more.
It must be an alien thing *idk if this counts but its ryan getting girl parts and brendon fucks him and if bden fucks him then yeah hes a bottom idc, summary: “His dick’s missing too,” adds Jon, and if Ryan had lasers in his eyes, Jon Walker would be history right then and there. “And he keeps telling this alien theory, but it can’t be fucking aliens, man. Aliens are too busy doing their shit to give you tits and a pussy.”
☆ Leaving Without Moving *mainly ryden but theres a hint of one-sided rycer from ryan, summary: "I'm not trying to embarrass you or anything here. But seriously, I'm just trying to make things clear - what you want is to be my own personal little toy, is that it? You want to be my pet in the... pet sense?" I HAVE NOOO IDEA HOW IVE NEVER COME ACROSS THIS FIC BEFORE ITS SO GOOD!!
☆ Hard to Believe in Sundays *rywalk, summary: Ryan shouldn't be making out with one of The Academy Is…'s techs in the dusky brown darkness behind his own tour bus where everyone, anyone, could see. Truckstops and Statelines-era. Just. wow the writing and the story are super amazeballs
Candyman *summary: It's a strange and beautiful thing to hate yourself so much you'd let someone else do this to you. Even stranger is trusting them enough to say these things and not mean it. Or mean it and love fuck you anyway. post-split, kinda poetic and angsty
☆ Give me more *read the tags! summary: They called this tough love. 2005, just starting out the band, brendon getting kicked out his house, just a really interesting and well-written fic. couldn't put it down once i started!
☆ Dog Ears, Frozen Lakes and the Resonance of Your Voice *gsf (mainly ryden), summary: The boys go on vacation to a secluded cabin in Switzerland for Christmas. a short sweet and hot fic! ryan just loves his whole band
Bossy *summary: In which Ryan is like, kind of a bitch to be honest, but in a good way. Subby top brendon and dom bottom ryan
☆ We’ll Reinvent Love *brendon bottoms in the last chapter, summary: “He remembers back when he was younger, and he would scrape his elbow, and because he hadn’t yet started these daily screaming matches with his mom, she would place a band-aid over it, ever so gently, and then an even gentler kiss on top of that. And because Ryan looks like his world is one big scraped elbow at the moment, Brendon leans forward and kisses him, butterfly-soft, and pulls away before Ryan gets a chance to do it first.” read this all almost in one shot and it made me slighty crazy… read it, it is SO wonderful
A Little Push *summary: In which Brendon finds out some interesting info about Ryan and acts on it.

DESPERATELY in search of: specific long OLD Peterick fic
I realize it may be weird to call into the abyss on this defunct blog but I am desperately in search of a fanfic that ruined my life many years ago and I wanted to revisit because I loved it so much. I’m pretty confident it was posted on live journal (but for some reason I think it was cross posted to A03 somewhere along the lines? MAYBE?)
Details I remember from the fic:
-Pete gifted Patrick a blue guitar (for Christmas? I think?) that matched his eyes perfectly (this was a recurring mention but happened early on)
-Patrick initially refused to perform Saturday because Pete wrote it about him losing his virginity LOL
-followed fall out boy from the beginning and worked through the timeline of then being a band up until the time that would be when Pete and Ashlee got married irl
-Pete and Patrick were together at the beginning of the fic and end but mostly separated in the middle and the fic mentioned other relationships they had (real, speculative, and fake)
-after the Honda civic tour Pete was with Mikey Way at one point and Patrick had a thing with Bob Bryar
anYWAY! I would be so so so appreciative if anyone knows what I’m talking about and could help me track it down! Please let me know if this sounds familiar to you and you know where I could find it!
I’ve spent half a week trying to find this but I haven’t even caught a whisper on the wind of it 😭

And A Scar Away (From Falling Apart)
Summary: It's your first time going to see your best friend's band. Unfortunately, things get a little too loud.
Pairing: Pete Wentz x Reader
Word count:993
TW: Over stimulation
You and Pete had been friends since you were in middle school. You were different in school, instead of dressing in bright colors and tank tops, you wore your older brother’s old clothes; lots of baggy jeans and old wrestling shirts, and that caused the other kids to pick on you. Pete was your saving grace. One day at recess while you were sitting under a tree, drawing, a group of boys came up and started picking on you. They were calling you names and were probably about to make your nose bloody, when a strange boy jumped out of the tree, landing on the boys and fighting them off. Once all was said and done and the boys had run off, the strange boy stood up and brushed himself off, then he plopped himself down next to you on the ground. Since that day you were the best of friends. No one messed with you anymore because you and Pete were joined at the hip. He did get you into a fair amount of trouble, but you wouldn’t want it any other way.
Tonight was the first show of his you were going to. Pete had been in this band for some time now and you had been putting off seeing them live for so long, but tonight Pete had made you promise to come. You hated the idea of being in a cramped basement, filled with people you didn’t know all brushing against you, and the music blaring louder than you can think. But you made a promise, so you were going.
“It’s going to be amazing! You’ll love it!” Pete kept saying. You would just give your best smile and nod, trying to look enthusiastic about it.
You got to the venue early, finding a corner close to the stage, where you could be by yourself. You had your earplugs in, hidden under your hair. You had to admit, you were a little excited to finally see Pete in full action.
Soon the room was filling with people, your heart started to race a bit, but soon Pete came out with the rest of his band. The sight of his familiar face calming you. When he saw you the biggest smile grew on his face and he began to play. The band was amazing, luckily just enough sound leaked through your earplugs for you to enjoy the music. It seemed like everyone else in the room enjoyed it too; pushing and dancing erupted in the small room, causing you to get pushed around. The movements caused both your earplugs to get thrown from your ears, sending all the noise blasting straight at you.
That’s when it started. The loud music, the stage lights, people pushing and rubbing against you, the heat that was building up in that small room; it all made it feel like your skull was crowded and your chest was about to burst. You rushed and pushed your way out of the crowd, making your way into the bathroom. You quickly closed the door and slid down to the floor, covering your ears in an attempt to block out the sound that was still blasting through the gaps in the door. Before you knew it someone else was pushing the door open, forcing their way into the bathroom with you. It was Pete. He had the gravest look of concern on his face. Pete quickly kneeled down on the floor next to you, looking you over and making sure you were ok.
“Y/N, what's wrong? Did something happen out there?” Pete said, speaking a little too loud. You quickly covered your ears harder, curling yourself up more than you thought possible. Pete realized what he had done and quickly lowered himself to be sitting on the floor, getting more on your level. With a shaky hand he reached out and began to stroke your hair, gently. Slowly, Pete scooched closer to you, until he had you in his arms, and held you against his chest, letting you hear nothing but his breathing and heartbeat. The rhythmic sounds of his heart helped to put your own breathing in check, bring you back to reality and clearing your head.
After a few minutes of sitting in silence, you slowly sat up, dried streaked from tears on your face. You looked at Pete, a slightly worried smile on his face, and hugged him properly this time.
“Thanks, Pete.” You say with a raspy and hushed voice.
“Any time.” He says, a slight smile on his face. “Let’s get you out of here. I’m sure It’s cleared out enough that we should be able to get out of here no problem.”
Pete helped you to your feet, helping to brush off any dust from the floor off of you and giving you another good look. Before leaving Pete gave you a big hug, and quickly pressed a quick kiss to your forehead. He then opened the door and led you out of the venue, getting to his car and taking you back to his apartment.
Bonus!:
Back at Pete’s apartment.
“I’m sorry, Y/N. I didn’t know that all that would do that to you.” Pete said, bring you a cup of warm tea to where you were snuggled up on the couch. He sat next to you, pulling the blanket you had on yourself onto himself as well.
“It’s ok, Pete. You didn’t know that would happen.” you tell him, giving him a slight smile.
“I’m just glad that you didn’t get hurt, you had me so worried.” Pete says, draping his arm over your shoulder and pressing a kiss to the side of your head.
“Well, since I didn’t get the chance to during the show, I guess now is the time to confess my feelings for you, isn’t it?” Pete says, using his other hand to rub the back of his neck.
