Soulmates

If you're reading this, I'm sure you know as well as I do that Spain and Romano are perfect for each other. In fact, their fates are connected by a red thread. What I'm trying to say, is that this is a post about soulmate AUs. All these stories have their own take on the rules of a soulmate AU, which just makes them that much better.

To note: anything written in green contains content warnings, but not smut. None of these contains smut, actually. Only finished fics are recommended here. Always check the tags and description on the individual fic, don't read anything just to criticise the author, and I hope you have a good reading!

Blank Wrist and Mutism:

Light by annapotterkiku: Lovino was sure he didn't have a soulmate, because he did not have any marks identifying the first thing his soulmate would say to him. But perhaps there's another reason... Content for minor mention of self harm.

No Words by catholicorprotestant: In a utopian society, where people can find their soulmate, Lovino's wrist is blank where the first thing his soulmate would say should've appeared.

I Won't Give Up by kucchi: Lovino was sick of life, until a stranger came barging in. But this stranger isn't speaking, and then, he disappears. Content warning for child abuse and neglect in chapter three.

Spamano oneshot by Cazypup: Yes, another! This one is a bit less angsty than the others.

Soul Mate's First Words-Unspoken by myfivemeters: Lovino was sick of his perfect brother being better than him, and moved to Spain. One day, he meets a mute man. Chapter 3 can be disregarded, as it's just an A/N.

Slowly But Surely In Love by amberauto: It was difficult to decide whether this one should go here, or into the next section, but I chose to put it here. Lovino doesn't want a soulmate and doesn't think he has one either. Antonio is mute. Longer than most soulmate fanfics, and content warning for major character death.

Bad End:

Colours by LimitlessReach (orphan_account): Sometimes, the red string of fate between you and another person snaps. Content warning for character death.

Until Time Starts Again by Ashesofthesoul: Everyone has a countdown timer for when they're destined to meet their soulmate. Lovino's timer breaks. Content warning for character death.

Tick by genuinely maverick: Lovino has decided he doesn't want to be with the person he meets when his countdown timer hits zero. This one says unfinished, but I think it works as a oneshot.

No One Knows Soulmates Are Real:

Testing-Testing I'm Just Suggesting You and I Might Not Be the Best Thing by batoravu (orphan_account): An AI is tasked with finding the soulmate of people. Lovino thinks the AI has to be mistaken.

Tomatoes, Always Tomatoes by Someone_you_do_not_know: What if your food cravings was the only thing telling you who your soulmate was? How do you even find someone based on that? There's a seven year age gap, but they meet each other when they're both in their 20s. This one has sequels that are also Spamano-centric.

They Know Each Other Beforehand:

Spamano Hearts by Kousagi7Yami and Vodka112: This fanfic is in two parts, which is why there are two links. One is Lovino's side, and the other is Antonio's side. In this universe, a person's heart is visible, and it breaks in two once it's matured. You give one half to the one you love, and they will give you their other half in return.

My Soulmate by sctwilightvampwolfgal: Antonio reflects on how his love for Lovina has changed from platonic to romantic. Open ended.

La Cinta Roja by Mediterranean Tomatoes: Antonio has had many partners taken from him as they found the one the red string of fate bound them to, and doesn't really want to find out. Lovino is the same. Until the day their ribbons finally show themselves.

Despite Losing Hope:

The Guilty Heart by Pastaaddict: Lovino blames himself for his brother's blindness, and believes he has taken away his brother's soulmate, since Feliciano will never find the one who makes him able to see in colour, since he can't see at all. Content warning for attempted suicide.

Cross My Heart by lorenzodelcielo: The name of your soulmates appear over your heart once you know – they can be platonic or romantic, and you can have up to four, although some get less, and some get none. Antonio has given up on finding anyone until he went to a certain restaurant.

Twenty-Nine by BlueFlame013: Lovino's countdown timer is broken, and is stuck at 29 years. But perhaps he'll find the one anyway.

Soul Mates by Chaos Ride: Romano yearns to find his soulmate, especially since he's already sixteen, and most other people finds their soulmate when they're younger. His brother convinces him to go to the movie theatre with him – where Antonio, 19, works. Minor content warning for one mention of suicide and some age gaps.

Love by Frostwhisker: Lovino has waited for three long years, and then, he ends up meeting his soulmate early. Now he's not even sure he wants to throw himself into a relationship.

Reincarnation:

I will not be your sometimes by dogmouth: No matter what happens or what life they're born into, Spain and Romano will always find each other.

The One Lifetime We Weren't by sctwilightvampwolfgal: So many lifetimes with a happily ever after, and one without, because Antonio could never date his son, nor Lovino his father. Content warning for a minor student/teacher relationship and mentions of incest – but the latter doesn't happen.

Ten Million Fireflies by Snowdream56: The half nation Romano has died, but two decades later, Antonio meets the human, Lovino. Content warning for character death.

till death do us part by Goth-leaf1: Lovino and Antonio are cursed. In every life, Lovino will have his lover taken from him upon their meeting. Content warning for character death.

Fish and Ships – The Sea

Spamano is a ship that abounds with plenty of adventures at sea – mermaids, pirates, sailors, sea witches, sirens, and so many kidnappings! Here's some of my favourite stories of adventures on the high seas.

To note: anything written in red contains smut, anything written in green contains content warnings, but not smut. Do note that a lot of these stories contain underage characters and especially teen and adult (sexual) relationships, due to the time period the stories are set in. Age gaps can be seen in the individual fanfic recommendation. If a given age gap makes you uncomfortable, click one of the stories without that. Only finished fics are recommended here. Always check the tags and description on the individual fic, don't read anything just to criticise the author, and I hope you have a good reading!

Pirates:

Hoist the Colors High by Elemental Fantasy 13: Lady Lovina is kidnapped by the infamous Captain, Antonio, and he's infamous for some very good reasons! He's not the only pirate kidnapping ladies, however. Other pairings include USUK and PruCan. Contains threats of sexual assault and very minor character deaths (it's a pirate story).

Spanish Gold by Shadowcatxx: Antonio was taken in by the Vargas family as a kid, and when he is old enough, he leaves on a ship. Twelve year old Lovino won't have it though, and stows away on the ship. They are foster brothers and there is an age gap (they are ten years apart, and know each other from Lovino is a baby). Content warnings for one sexual assault scene with underage Lovino (not spamano), slight gore and torture, and implied sex between 16 year old Lovino and 26 year old Antonio. I wish it wasn't so, but the story is good, I promise.

Under Appreciated by Abby Keeper: Lovino and Feliciano stow away on a pirate ship. Fairly sweet. There is an age gap here as well (Lovino is 15, Antonio is 23).

Unexpected Consequences by Avalon's Moon: Lovino the cabin boy wants some respect from Captain Antonio, but things escalate. This is underage smut, since Lovino is 16 and Antonio is 20, but their actual ages don't have a big impact on the story. There's also light BDSM.

Dangerous Waters by BlueFlamePy: Antonio's a pirate captain who catches a thief who's wanted but has no bounty. Said thief later comes aboard his ship. Content warning for violence and minor character death.

Ojalá by The_Cilantro_Family: Antonio was taken prisoner by his enemies, Lovino managed to free him. Note the time jumps back and forward in the story. There's a five year age gap, they meet when Lovino is 12, but years pass before they fall in love.

A Pirate's Life for Me by pilindiel: Antonio and Lovino are getting handsy with each other, but pirate ships are really crowded. They don't actually get anywhere, since they get interrupted.

tormentas by orphan_account: Short fanfic about the dreaded pirate captain Antonio being comforted by Lorenzo during a storm.

El Corazón del Pirata by adropofstarlight: Captain Antonio kidnaps the young nobleman Lovino, but after an assassination attempt, the two grow closer. But were they strangers in the first place? Contains minor character death.

Dead Man's Prayer by grimwoode: Lovino is bored of his life and joins a pirate crew for an adventure, but it's a lot more than he bargained for. For once, Antonio isn't the captain. Content warnings for major character death, violence, child abuse, suicide, prostitution, implied underage prostitution, slavery, cheating, and tragedy.

Pirates and Royalty:

Of Pirates and CrossDressing Runaways by doiteain: Lovina and Feliciana are royalty on the run from being married off to some princes. They disguise themselves as men and join Captain Antonio's pirate crew. There is also GerIta and PruCan.

Pirates of the Pomodoro by RandomWriter57: This one is a little different, because for once, Lovino is the pirate, and Antonio is the prince! After a botched assassination turned into kidnapping, Crown Prince Antonio finds himself as a prisoner on a pirate ship. Contains character death. There is also a sequel to it.

How The Turntables... by LimitlessReach (orphan_account): This is smut happening in a public place.

A Pirate's Pet by LimitlessReach (orphan_account): Bondage smut!

Merpeople:

Scavenger of the Sea by Black_Rose_Authoress: The Bad Friends Trio and Ludwig find a mermaid on the beach. Antonio falls in love with her, and she's interested in him. The language barrier is the biggest obstacle.

Part of your world by kyootness: A sweet loose retelling of Disney's The Little Mermaid with Spamano.

Love of the Sea by anchorise: Short story about a merman and his sailor confessing their love.

Not The Only First by DasGrossartigeIch: Lovino and Antonio's first time together, started by Antonio's merman heat.

Scalier by Ronni_Rotten (orphan_account): Antonio dreams of becoming one with the ocean, and is captured by Arthur. He shares a cell with the siren prince of merpeople, Lovino, and they plan a daring escape. I really like the world building in this one. Contains minor character death.

Ashes by lorenzodelcielo: A siren prince has been once betrayed, and learns to trust again. Contains abusive relationships, nondescript sexual abuse (neither is Spamano), trauma, and character death.

Underwater Land by satsukiarisa: Antonio is a merman, Lovino is a human deadly afraid of the water. He also suffers from amnesia for plot related reasons. Past Prumano. It's a little suggestive at times and contains violence, trauma, and assault.

Pirates and Merpeople:

The Pirate's Treasure by chibi-excel: Captain Antonio has caught a merman – a prince at that, and as a royal, his merman can make jewels. Since Lovino isn't used to human languages, he occasionally uses the wrong words, which is very cute. Smut is in chapter 19 and 21, but many of the earlier chapters are also dealing with sexual themes.

A treasure unlike any other. by Karliah: After a battle at sea, a merman rescues the deaf captain Antonio.

siren's call by orphan_account: Antonio is a pirate who's washed up on a shore. Lovino is a siren calling to him. Smut.

Exploration of a Dream by ofdogsandwriting: Antonio and Lovino are mermen in an established relationship. Curious about the human world, they go above the surface and join a pirate crew.

Listen to the Call by animerockchic: Captain Antonio is called by a siren to fetch something important.

Sailors and the Sea:

Captain's Log by LadyLisa: Antonio returns from the sea, home to his Romano. Domestic fluff.

Hymn to the Sea by laconicGhost: Two men from different worlds find themselves to be falling in love on the Titanic. Contains character death and attempted suicide.

come home to me by Treta_Aysel: Lovino is in love with a sailor, and that's not easy, because the sea is fickle. Extremely mild smut.

with you i'm home by Treta_Aysel: Sequel to come home to me. Lovino and Antonio go sailing to help Antonio deal with what happened.

The Beachcomber's Windowsill by LadyLisa: It is the 1920s, and Antonio is visiting an old friend by the ocean. Chapter 7 contains mild smut.

Nationverse:

A Few Days Late by lovelesslybeloved: Little Lovino goes out to the docks to look for the sails signaling Antonio's return. Not a ship-fic.

Wish Upon A Star by Kaffee und Sahne: Lovino wishes to know whether his boyfriend has some brains or not, and is then brought back to when Antonio was a pirate. There's extremely mild smut and a few offensive word choices.

Losing Touch by rinkaku: Romano has a quiet moment to ponder Antonio's past as a conquistador.

To Get a Message of Pain by organization MA: Spain tells Romano that if he writes his troubles down and put them in a bottle he sends to sea, he can get rid of them. It doesn't quite work out. Not a ship-fic. Content warning for one offensive word choice.

Dehydration by writingandchocolatemilk: Spain has been hunting England for months without going home to see Romano. Now he's half dead and hallucinating on a beach.

Lovino of the Silver Tongue by orphan_account and Tassledown: Antonio got caught stealing. Good thing he has a great liar for a henchman. Lovino is headcanoned to be older than Antonio in this fanfic, and has an adult body.

It's Upon Boss to Teach You Some Manners by ArceeGeorgia: Seeing Antonio's old clothes made Lovino fantasise a bit. Antonio's ready to fulfill those fantasies.

Just Add One Mermaid's Tear by Samstar1990: Two representations of South Italy is too much, and the one for Sicily desires to be as great an empire as her grandfather. She has a wicked plan, but she needs a merman and the cooperation of the nation who raised her and her brother. At times, this fanfic has some grammar issues, but the premise and story is so interesting and original that I don't mind. Contains character death.

Pirates and the Supernatural:

Initiation by Karuka Ikashi: Lovino is a dragon cursed to bear the body of a human, and is about to go through the initiation ceremony on Captain Antonio's pirate ship – if nothing else just so the crew won't think of him as a goddamned pet.

The Contract by BlueFlamePy (repeat recommendation): Captain Antonio has picked up a demon, and wants this demon to help him gain glory and immortality.

The Greatest Treasure, You Idiot! by Kitty-Kat Allie: A pirate seeks a treasure, the greatest treasure of them all. The beautiful siren Lovino shows him the way, but will Antonio fail when it matters the most? This one legitimately made me cry.

Themes to look forward to

Here's an overview of themes I plan to make, but haven't compiled everything for yet.

The Darkest of the Dark: horror, gore, and general negative portrayals of Spain or Romano, where they are insane or evil. Some of these fics I don't think fits within the others categories, even if they seem like they do.

On-Going: Fanfics that seem like they hopefully might be finished someday, and have had new chapters published in the last year or two.

I Wish This Wasn't Dropped: Fanfics that hasn't been updated in at least five years, or have officially been discontinued or dropped by the author. I wish they weren't.

Transformations, Time Travel, and Magic: Through magic, something strange has happened.

Historical: Historical Hetalia or historical times – except for the Golden Age of Piracy themed fanfics, they're in The Sea.

Fairy Tales and Royalty: Fanfics based on fairy tales or other forms of classic literature – or just with a focus on princes, kings, and nobility.

Omegaverse: Exactly what it sounds like. alpha/beta/omega fanfics go here.

That's (Un)Professional: Workplace AUs of any kind – such as offices, teachers, boutiques, and so on.

Poly: For when it's not just spamano. Sometimes, it's quadruple the spamano, at other times, they're joined by someone else.

Fanfiction collections: there's a lot of fanfic drabbles and oneshots that are collected into one big thing. This is for them.

The Ladies: for genderbent spamano – het and sapphic love.

Seven Deadly Sins by TheFreakZone: Lovino moves into a house, and soon finds out he's not alone – he's rooming with seven demons each representing one of the deadly sins. At the same time, he has a crush on this guy, Antonio...

Devil!Toni and SexyBaker!Lovi by Vodka112: Title kinda says it all. Antonio is a demon, Lovino is a sexy baker. What more do you want from me?

Three Hundred Years by SnowyWolff: Antonio is a demon and Lovino is a witch. Over the course of three hundred years, their relationship changes.

Seven Devils by flavio-sexual: Lovino is frequently possessed by demons as a child, and Antonio tries to help him. It's horror.

Unholiest of Nights by killerkitty15: There's a demon inside of Lovino (again), and he's tried to make it leave, but Antonio won't leave. Contains attempted rape (not between spamano), gore, character death, and horror.

The Contract by BlueFlamePy: Captain Antonio has picked up a demon, and wants this demon to help him gain glory and immortality.

Ecclesiastical:

Amo atque credo by StarsMadeinHeaven: Lovino is a priest who doesn't believe in God. Antonio is a roma who believes in God, but doesn't believe in priests. I'M STILL BRAINROTTING OVER IT. Mild smut.

Gifts by LimitlessReach (orphan_account): Lovino and Father Antonio are up to things they probably shouldn't be doing.

Temptatio by Sixteen clumsy and shy: Lovino is a priest accused of sodomy, and is interrogated by head inquisitor Antonio. Also contains noncon and torture. I wouldn't say it's hot exactly, but it is wellwritten. Really gets into the headspace of someone who is rapidly losing things they didn't even know they could lose.

Demons and Priests:

Possessed by LimitlessReach (orphan_account): Antonio is a demon, and hypnotises the priest Lovino.

I Can't Ignore you, I'd Do Anything For You by gloomcoyote: Here we have the exact opposite! Antonio is the priest, and Lovino really doesn't like when you say God.

Sins of the Innocent by orphan_account: Same premise as above, except there's five whole chapters of it!

Be aware that all of these straddle a fine line of dubcon because of demons and humans, and if that bothers you, don't click them.

Angelic:

Glorious Angelus by Black.Rose.Authoress: Antonio is visited by an angel named Lovina.

I Don't Hate You by BlueFlamePy: Lovino and his brothers are angels and have been sent to Earth for a mission, but they meet a group of dark angels, and one of them takes a bit of a liking to Lovino. Although it contains smut, it's only in chapter four (gerita) and the very last chapter (spamano).

Demons and Angels:

Tomatina Angel by GlassSerendipity: Christina (nyo Romano) is too bad for an angel, and Antonio is too good for a demon. As one tries to save souls and the other tries to doom them, they fall in love. Contains character deaths (that's how the characters become angels and demons), torture and one very non-graphic attempted sexual assault (not spamano).

Demons, Angels, and Priests:

A Divided Cross Path by Kin Siofra: Lovino and Feliciano are priests after their grandfather died, but Lovino starts seeing an angel named Antonio – and suddenly, there's also a devil named Antonello hanging around him. Yes, there are two Spains. Content warnings for character deaths, and non-graphic child abuse.

Religious Themes:

Bless Me, Father by plump_thighs: Antonio goes to confess his sins to a priest. But you have to be sorry for it to count.

All of Our Sins by Terminally Introverted: Lovino and Feliciano attend confirmation classes under their group leader Antonio. Lovino and Antonio slowly realise this church in particular is a very awful place. Warnings for homophobia, religious guilt and trauma, self harm, attempted suicide, and a bit of an age gap (Lovino is 17, Antonio is in his early 20s).

Not a Sin by ChibiDevil098: Romano has pushed his feelings for Spain away for centuries, but one Christmas Eve, Spain returns, and reassures him that what they feel is not a sin.

Confessional Ambush by Stripes93: Romano is trying to confess, but his boyfriend Antonio is on the other side of the curtain instead of the priest.

Don't Tempt Me by Reda: Romano has chosen a very particular thing (person) to give up for Lent this year.

Visiting the Pope by RomaNatty: Romano and Veneziano are supposed to introduce themselves to the new pope, and they bring their boyfriends. It does not go well. For the pope, that is.

Raised in Penance by cuneifire (orphan_account): Romano prays for his sins to be forgiven.

Hallelujah by AntheaAnonymous: Lovino and Antonio go to the same church, and can't get their eyes off of each other. Contains the most PG-13 sex scene, it is so PG-13 that I don't think it needs to be red.

Accept Surrender by stardropdream (orphan_account): Smut with religious guilt.

Masterpost and Intro!

Recently, I've come to learn that not everyone knows about all the spamano fanfiction that exists out there, and as someone who has read an ungodly amount of it and cannot stop recommending it to people, I thought of making this blog!

Each post on this blog will have a theme and sub-themes fitting under it. Some fics might show up in more than one post. Fanfics that contain smut will have their titles in red, and fanfics that contain other content warnings, such as gore, horror, character death, and so on, will have their titles in green. If the title is in green, the description will include content warnings, and if there are any other content warnings in a fanfic marked with red, those will also be in the description. I try my best, but if there's a fanfic you think should have a content warning that I haven't included, shoot me a message (and don't actually shoot me).

Always check the tags and description on the individual fic, and don't read anything just to criticise the author. This blog meant for sharing the love for a ship, so don't send meanspirited comments or rude reviews to the authors. Do send nice comments and reviews though, fanfiction authors love that.
