What is the real purpose of grooming a pet? To keep the home clean for pet family, to keep the revenue cycle going for grooming salon, to maintain pet’s health and hygiene?

Well, yes. All of that is right. But something is still missing! An ultimate purpose that somehow is lost in the modern world. And that is pet’s own self dignity and confidence. While it can be argued as to how that can be proven but if we look at this from human lenses, it might all make sense! When do you feel more positive, confident and dignified? Well, not when you haven’t showered in weeks and groomed in months!

No wonder why over 99% of domesticated pets groom either at home by family or at professional grooming salon! And professional grooming service is one of the major contributors in a trillion dollar pet industry!

And it makes independent groomers and salons important for a pet to gain self dignity and confidence!

And then when I explained that that’s not really something I could help him with, he got real rude and started talking about how if I’d given him good advice he would’ve brought his dog here.

Grooming Software — Do they really exist?

It is ironic for a trillion dollar Pet industry how majority of grooming community including independent groomers and salons still survive on paperwork. Maintaining paper cards for pet, grooming history, scheduling, daily checkin logs? Do you also feel we are in the stone age? I learned there are potentially two reasons behind this by interviewing 30+ salons.

Either grooming software exist are too expensive or they don’t really serve the purpose. Few of them pay over $200 per month on a very basic software that is no different than a well formulated Excel spreadsheet! No wonder why majority of the community leaned to live without such software.

To my surprise, I found groomers are very tech savvy community! Facebook, Instagram, Snap, Twitter, TikTok, Youtube, Blogging — you name it! They use them all. They have decent social media presence and big fan following. So, technology isn’t a barrier here. Also, grooming in general is a sophisticated service due to the cost and commitment involved for pet families. Also, there is a huge customer base in US and globally. Why do we still lack innovation, efficient tools & technology in this space?
