#pet blessing

For today's October activity I took my dog to the yearly Pet Blessing service at my (Lutheran) church. The Baptist Church I grew up in did not believe in blessing animals, but all the churches I've belonged to as an adult have (not the main factor in my membership, but it isn't not a factor either!)

The last time I took him to a blessing was before we moved here, which was the first summer of the pandemic. In the intervening time, he has gotten crankier, blinder, more suspicious, and less willing to tolerate situations and people. You know, like most of us! He snapped at no less than three people, including the priest, obviously. Everyone was a good sport about it, though, because he is visibly ancient. The elderly get away with everything.

Midnight did so good at the Pet Blessing. She was so calm and quiet; she didn’t care for the free “pupsicles” though.

Pet blessing! There were way more people (and pets!) than these early photos. :) father and Deacon are in white.

I also saw another aspirant to my Monastery that I met on Easter Vigil. She didn’t chat much and had to leave early before the final blessing.

Speaking of shy birds, here’s Cassiopeia (aka Cassie), she’s a real beauty with the most incredible iridescent feathers. I also love her pale yellow eyes, they’re really striking against her purplish-black skin.

She’s really a sight to see, it’s too bad she’s not friendlier or I’d love showing her off more!
