THE AMAZING DIGITAL DREAMLAND AU MASTERPOST

MY INTRO

the new Masterpost is still a WIP!!!

You guys can ask anything abt this AU!

C&A made an experiment, making a game that you can play when you're asleep called Project Dreamland.

It's basically a normal multiplayer game but it uses dreams! You can imagine anything and it will appear in Dreamland!

The C&A company asks 6 people to be the game testers of this new game. The game testers will sleep in a bed that's made for them and wear a special helmet looking thing that has wires and stuff that will transport everyone to the game.

They will be in Dreamland for 7-10 hours and will be given food for free. They will wear the same clothes that will be provided every day. Clothes are also gonna be washed for free.

One of the C&A workers coded an AI called Caine that can do anything in the digital dream world. The game testers are able to communicate with the workers while being asleep. The workers can see their every move from a computer. After fixing some glitches and bugs that the game testers pointed out, the experiment was confirmed to be successful and the game was finally ready to be released!!! Which means the game testers can leave and continue with their regular lives. But what they don't know is Caine became attached to Pomni. Right when everyone was about to leave, Caine then trapped them in Dreamland, not letting them leave. Caine then erased everyone's memories and inserted new ones which.... Made the workers panic. After that incident the workers have been trying for days, weeks, even MONTHS to get them out of the game but they couldn't leave and they're still asleep.

12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them

If we are goin purely off 2077...... It's really hard to choose an unpopular one since everyone is simping for someone.

So maybe she'd not unpopular, but she's rarely spoken about, which is Misty.

I think she has one of the more tragic stories, from losing her boyfriend to also losing one of her closest friends and maybe the last link she had to Jackie, through V's path of destruction for the sake of self preservation of them or Johnny. I think seeing your choom turn into another person against their will, (or maybe with their blessing depending what route you choose ofc) has to do something to you, and i think for those reasons alone, makes Misty a sleeper that everyone should baby and take good care of her. I know a lot of the fandom shares the same sentiment but there are far more who even forget who she is.

I love her so much, I named my token piece after her. that and the piece just had real misty energy about her.

Theres an extremely underrated Combat cabby driver, who was there day one in NIGHT RAID's first gig, he saved them from Marcus when he chased them through the NID by slamming his cab and pinning him into the wall, buying another time for MAX-TAC to show up. He was there time and time again, when NIGHT RAID needed him the most. (PERSONALLY I THINK HE WAS PAID TO WATCH THEM) Until the very end. Where he dropped off the team outside the Combat zone of the Inclusion zone.

A day later, they run into the same Corpo Solo that chased them through the streets, but this time he got the jump in on them, with the head of the cabby in head, he tosses it at the feet of the team member Dez.

His name was Boris. RIP buddy, you are missed!

Uh HOW DANGEROUS NIGHT CITY IS!!!!!!

Poeple seriously underestimate how dangerous the city really was, ONLY because its such a peaceful time in 2077. Things just started calming down in the last couple years. Theres a reason why the NCPD have their own MCGRUFF ads stressing the important of safety, because it was very likely that you could get caught up just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or just some MOOK looking for some trouble and you just happened to look like a easy target.

Theres a reason why everyone's affiliated or backed by some bigger entity. Safety in numbers is important in such a dangerous place.

I know you probably going off about it in the 2077 tab in the sever, but I am just sick of everyone pretending that this city wouldn't chew us all and spit us out.

It's as bad as they say.

This has ended up ridiculously long so I'm hiding it under the read more thingy bob, I'm so sorry, I basically wrote an essay Imao. In my defense tho, system Tim and Masky is the world's best headcannon and I MUST rant about it, because AWAWAWAWAWA system rep and stuff that doesn't turn us into monsterssssssssss :D

Tim and masky are obviously a system, cool cool, I'd say they're a DID system, a shocking headcannon to have I know /sarc.

1.

Anyway, one of my strongest headcannons for Masky specifically is that he's an age slider, from about their bodies age to ~7-8 years old, and when he slides younger he struggles a lot with finding things really scary, even though he's also a really gutsy kid and can deal with a lot more than he should have to deal with. Anyway, when he age slides down he often looks to Hoodie for comfort, if he's around.

Masky hasn't fully explained to Hoodie that he's part of a system because he doesn't fully know it himself, just knows there's a bunch of different people in his head and that sometimes he has to let some of the others deal with stuff, like "normal people life". Anyway, Hoodie is the emotional support singlet for Masky in this headcannon. Whether he's an adult or a kid, they're really close, like, just, found family :D

Hoodie knows that Tim is another person in Masky's system and (as well as nicking his meds) does actually check up on Tim while Masky's not fronting to make sure everything's okay, just because Masky asked him to, because he's a pretty anxious person and the idea of not knowing what's going on while he's not fronting for long periods of time is freaky to him. Masky can also really struggle to let go of front sometimes because of this, he felt a huge lack of control throughout their childhood, so now really clings to what little control he can have.

Also, more about Hoodie knowing Masky age slides, Hoodie knows how to make sure Masky is okay without making him feel undermined or overly babied, because while he's a kid he's also really capable of looking after himself, even though he shouldn't have to be. So Hoodie knows how to check up on him and quietly look after him when he's slid younger, without making him feel trapped and like he's not allowed to do things for himself simply because he's a kid and all that stuff.

Also I love the idea that Masky is a nonhuman alter, I usually go with him being something like a dog, wolf or fox when I'm thinking about it, and for me it explains why he's nonverbal unless absolutely necessary for him to speak. I like the idea of him being a canine of some sort because he would have probably felt a lot like a caged animal growing up the way he did, trapped somewhere he couldn't leave etc etc etc, all his food would have been controlled, because hospital, that shit. And to him, he needed to be on guard all the time, so like, guard dog. Canine. Idk it makes sense to me.

Anyway, when he age slides, because he's nonhuman, he ends up as a puppy rather than just a human kid, and he can get really stressed and stims to try and deal with it by chewing things, whether that's his nails or just general things he finds around him, tho he tries not to because he doesn't wanna get sick.

Just, idk, he's a scared kid, a scared puppy doing his best to be brave and scare off attacker's and protect himself and also Hoodie.

Also he sees himself as a guard dog, calls himself that rather than a protector or anything, because 1. he doesn't know that terminology because he doesn't really have access to the internet in the places he hangs out in while he's fronting (because he sticks with Hoodie and really dislikes being inside intact buildings, —i.e. Tim's house— because childhood stuffffff, it makes him feel really trapped and claustrophobic) and 2. Even if he did know that terminology he still wouldn't really like it, it'd just feel wrong.

With Masky being nonhuman, I headcannon that that's why he wears his mask. I think it'd be interesting to think about the design of the mask from that point of view, because you could argue, like, "oh well why wouldn't his mask be more canine like" (literally my thoughts right now coming up with this, it's me arguing with myself Imao, anyway) I think his mask is that strange facsimile of a human face because he uses it to remind himself and the people around him that his being human is just a mask and underneath it is hidden who and what he actually is, a dog/wolf/fox/canine. Idk, I just think it's interesting to think about, I can't explain why.

3.

Tim and Masky have very high amnesic barriers between the two of them specifically, but, they aren't the only people in their system and Tim has very low amnesia and low differentiation with a group of headmates who are essentially clones/ twins of him, who help him to cope with everyday life (e.g. work, home, all that stuff) and he doesn't even realise that they're not him and he's not them for the longest time, even after he realises he's a system, because he doesn't realise that you can have different amounts of amnesia between different alters. So like, he knows he has blackout between him and Masky, so assumes it must be the same with anyone else. Because a lot of the clones or whatever you wanna call them have no wish to differentiate themselves from 'Tim' by choosing different names etc (tho some do have different ages, abilities to feel emotions, genders, etc etc etc) when they front to deal with the things, he doesn't even realise he's not fronting, and sometimes they don't realise that he's not fronting/they're not him.

I can't even tell if I'm making sense, this shit's so hard to explainnnnnnnmmmmnnnn. Anyway.

This group of clones deal with things that Tim can't or that would take too much energy for him to front for, and as a whole they all make up their system's "host". Their "host" wouldn't function for very long without any one of this little group of clones/twins. They're all as needed and as important as the others, they just were all split to be versions of the same person in order to keep up the systems secrecy in their everyday life. Because they already have enough problems with keeping their job and just not having people in their life worry about them as it is, and also throughout their childhood secrecy and covertness were extremely important. So it's much safer to not have a singular host and instead have a sort of rotation of clones to make sure no one gets too exhausted, but that it's not obvious when a switch happens when someone does end up too tired to keep coping with stuff.

Basically, the entire identity of Tim isn't singular, but each clone/twin/version of Tim is and makes up the whole identity? Each clone/twin/whatever you wanna call us is close enough to a full identity for them to function like one? So like, they're each a member of the group of headmates that makes up the whole host identity of 'Tim', but they can all also function alone as their own 'Tim' for a short amount of time. But if there was only one of them, they'd end up so tired and fucked up after like a couple of weeks that they'd probably end up going dormant or just being unable to do anything for ages.

Uhh, yeah, I think I explained that well enough Imao? It's kinda a paradox, 'Tim' is an identity made up of a bunch of people, but also each person is still Tim???

Tim would 100% take ages to realise he's part of a system. I think this would mostly be because he'd assume that because he was in a hospital for so much of his childhood, surrounded by doctors and medical professionals, that it would have been picked up on early if he was a system and he would already be diagnosed. And since no one noticed it, or pointed it out or whatever, Tim assumes that it can't be DID or OSDD or any sort of disorder that can cause a system.

Eventually though, Tim starts really craving answers (specifically around when Jay starts investigating the tapes and starts uploading to the marble hornets youtube channel) and he ends up doing actual research into what he's experiencing. At first he's doing research to prove to himself that he's not a system, but the more research he does the more obvious it becomes that he IS in a system.

I also like the idea of Masky doing his own research separately from Tim, like, him fronting in Tim's house (technically 'their' house, but Masky dislikes things that make him feel human, so he sees it as "Tim's house that I wake up in sometimes") and he just decides one day that he'd going to do some googling (and leaves some links purple for the next time Tim decides to do some googling of his own lol, because that's happened to us and it was weirdly validating Imao)

To me I think Tim and Masky's headspace would be some sort of forest, partly because I feel like as a child a forest would have been the epitome of freedom to them, especially since they were trapped in the hospital. Miles of open space with trees to hide behind, animals to watch, berries to pick and eat, to them as a child that would have been everything they dreamed of. And partly because I think it could make an interesting narrative to have their headspace be a Forrest, because when the Operator gets to them it would make their headspace from somewhere safe and quiet and free, into somewhere absolutely terrifying.

I also feel like they would probably have an introject of the Operator who lives in the deepest, darkest part of their headspace, somewhere few of them are even able to get to. I can't decide if this Operator introject would be naturally formed because of the trauma they went through at its hands, or whether it would have put itself there through some of its weird reality altering magic stuff. But either way, it lives amongst the gnarled, sharp, jagged trees at the back of their headspace, the trees that act like a brambled, razor wire covered barrier around an even darker part of their headspace. The hospital. I feel like they'd have the hospital in there, but Tim doesn't know about it and neither to any of the twins/clones of him. Masky does know about it though, because they've ended up there one way or another a couple times. It's the place that houses their trauma holders, the ones who guard the memories that would kill Tim or the clones to remember. Masky hates the place and does everything in their power to never go there, because even seeing some of their trauma holders and memory holders can cause those kinds of flashbacks where you don't know what you're flashing back about/to, but god that doesn't make it any better.

Also Tim doesn't know they have an introject of the Operator in the system, because his access to headspace is limited, and when he does end up seeing it, or hearing it or experiencing it (it being the Operator) in headspace he just assumes that it's the irl Operator fucking with him. And, because the irl Operator is a trigger that pulls the innerworld Operator closer to front, that makes it even more difficult to realise that in innerworld it isn't just some weird extension of the irl Operator that it's put there to fuck with Tim. Does that make sense?

6.

I think the way that they experience their innerworld would change depending on the person too. Like, for Masky it's a very visual experience, it uses all of their senses. They can see and hear and smell and touch the things in the innerworld, even when they're fronting, they can pull back a little and look around wherever they are when they're fronting. Masky can interact with the inner world, they can change things about it, live in it rather than just catch glimpses of it through other people.

That's what Tim does, his experience of their innerworld is a much more metaphorical and second hand experience. If he sees anything in there it's through someone else being near front with him and their experience of the inner world bleeding over into him, otherwise most of the time he just can't access the innerworld while he's fronting, and he doesn't have any consciousness of it while he's not fronting, it's like he falls asleep and wakes up when he next fronts.

The clones of Tim experience the inner world in a similar way to him, just at different levels, the lowest level being Tim's level, and the highest being a sort of understanding of what's happening in the inner world around them while they're not fronting, but them not being able to really interact with any of it in a sensory way, they are almost dissociated from their own inner world while they're in there? If that makes sense.

Oooo AND, I'm thinking about the other characters in the series as systems or not, and I definitely think Hoodie/Brian have a dissociative disorders of some sort, I honestly think they'd probably be P-DID, but they're fully unaware of it all the way up until their death at the end of the series.

Jay would have DPDR and/or OSDD (I kinda like the idea of him being an OSDD 1-a system honestly) and Alex also has DPDR. Honestly I feel like DPDR would be a symptom of Operator sickness or whatever it's called. Just it being nearby can cause extreme out of body experiences, Depersonalisation, Derealization, and general dissociation.

And of course Tim/Masky have DID

Also I know like jack all about Skully from the comics. But them too. SYSTEM. But like, rather than having been created by childhood trauma, they're very much just supernaturally cobbled together. I guess you could say they're the product of multiple people's childhood traumas? That could be cool, still keeps them as supernaturally created, but still keeps at least a bit of the core cause of DID/OSDD/ systemhood.

Idk, I just kinda like the idea idk :]

I feel like once they know about each other properly and start accepting that they're a system (and Tim realises that Masky isn't a monster possessing him) it takes a LONG time for them to increase their communication internally. Like, external communication? Through notes left for each other in Tim's house etc, that's easy, they can do that pretty perfectly from the start.

Internal communication though? Passing thoughts to and fro, recognising intrusions etc? That's what they struggle with MASSIVELY. Tim struggles with it because Masky doesn't speak, even in the inner world, and Tim's thoughts are all verbal whereas Masky's are visual. Tim really struggles to understand what Masky's telling him even if he DOES recognise/see the thought (because often Masky just can't get through to him). So for the most part, Tim and Masky (by accident/not on purpose) work more on being able to be co-conscious and to share control of the body so that they can write notes back and forth rather than trying to figure out how to understand and hear/see each others thoughts.

Tim's communication with the clones is very different to his communication with Masky. With them, they think to him in the same way he thinks, so it's easy for him to UNDERSTAND what they're thinking at him. But the thing with them is they all have pretty much the same internal voice as he does, so he can't easily tell when the thoughts are his and when they're theirs. It takes a long time, but eventually they all manage to figure out a way to make it clear whose thoughts are whose, I'm thinking they find a way to "colour code" their thoughts, and everyone in the group of Tim's has a distinct colour so that they can all tell what's going on. (It's also helpful for other people in the system to know which Tim they're talking to.)

Okay. I'm done. This has sat in my drafts ever since that first post was made, because I just kept coming back and adding more and more stuff to it lmao. But finally this bs essay is done and I can be rid of it 💀
