Hey! I absolutely love all your work. And live to see the Desi representation in some of your work. I was wondering if you could do one where everytime H goes out on stage or interviews all dolled up, the reader does the kajal thing for the bad nazar. I just think H would be like soo bashful and cute about it. Love you.
Evil Eye
First off, thanks anon for sending in the req. I love writing fic where I can imagine myself in. I am glad you like my work. Ilysm. Hope you like this one too. I wrote it real quick in like an hour. Pls ignore the typos if there are any, or simply feel free to point them out I'll edit it. Hehe.
More of my work
Harry was getting ready to perform for BRIT Awards.
He was home. He was with family and the love of his life, about to perform one of his hits. This was going to be one of the happiest nights of his life, he could already tell.
It was time for quick outfit change before he went on stage. His girlfriend of six months was hanging out in his green room with him as he got ready, she was on her laptop working away at a couple of urgent emails she had to send out.
It was her day off, but she's been recently promoted as senior manager at her firm and they need her there more often than it seems to be. Harry was more than content with just her presence by his side. He'd gotten into a pair of black pants before his hair stylist was on board. He'd tried on the few different tops to go with it, his last try was a red sparkly piece.
"You look handsome!" He heard his girlfriend chirp from behind him, when he turned around he saw her looking at him like a love struck puppy behind her glasses, her face lit blue from her laptop screen in the yellow lit room. She was sat on the rug using the coffee table as her desk.
"Thank you baby!" He couldn't help but blush at the compliment he for sure hears a million times when he's working. It somehow felt so special coming from her. She just shrugged in reply. "Did you get a good news from work?"
"Yeah, I got the on-paper for my promotion finally!" She shared.
"That's amazing, darling, congratulations!" He was immediately walking upto her with open arms to engulf her in a bone crushing hug and a tender kiss she deserves so much. "It's more legit now, innit?"
"Yeah! It feels so surreal to be honest!" She chuckled in pure joy. "Enough about me, tonight is for you and about you. Are you excited?"
"More than excited actually." He dat down next to her on the rug. "Can't wait to go out there and perform already!"
"I can see." YN commented, "this jacket looks good on you." She leaned forward with her lips puckered asking for a kiss, which Harry was more than glad enough to give her. He took the opportunity to pull her over his lap, making her straddle his thighs with his hands on her bum.
"Though it would look better on your bedroom floor, along with this hoodie, I think we have a good half an hour before the show." Harry managed to mumble between his kisses on her mouth.
"No, not here!"
"No one's gonna come in, I promise." He urged her, hands slipping under the her (his) hoodie over her bare skin.
"Stop it tickles!" She squirmed under his touch. "No, no, Harry not here please."
He let out a dramatic sigh, "fine!"
"But if you loose the shirt underneath, I might be able to trick my aunty thinking I am staying with a girl friend tonight." She challenged him.
"Then you better get to convincing her, love!" He already took off the jacket so he can rip off the tank top he wore underneath it, being his usual dramatic self.
It is indeed a difficult task to convince YN's landlady, who also happens to be her aunty for letting her stay out. She lives away from her family in London, but she's got her aunty a parent figure in the city, which comes with perks of not paying rent but also cons like still following a curfew, typical brown family behaviour. But none the less YN have managed to trick her aunty into thinking she's staying at one of her friend's house, when in reality she is at Harry's.
Her family knows about Harry, they are very accepting of him. Though her parents won't be happy if they find out their daughter spent a night at his place for obvious reasons.
He was tackling her on the rug now as he tickled her more. They spent their time goofing around and poking fun at one another. In no time Harry was ready to be on the stage.
"A lot of people are going to watch you today." YN pointed on trying her best to make her boyfriend keep his hands to himself for now.
"Mhmm." He sounded stealing a kiss from her. He watched her wipe the kohl from the corner of her eye and placed it behind his left ear, "what was that for?"
"To protect you from evil eye tonight." She shared, "you're looking extra, extra, extra gorgeous!"
"I didn't know you were superstitious." His cheeks turned red in an instant.
"Look at you blushing!" YN cooed at his reaction which had him burying his face into her neck to hide his bashful face. "Awe! Harry you're so cute, I love you!"
"I love you." He repeated.
"Now go and sing your heart out." She encouraged him.
"Mhmm." He nodded placing yet another kiss on her mouth before he was off to the stage just in time.
The night was memorable as expected. Harry got wasted like usual. His sister had to take him to her place as he shouldn't be left alone when he's drunk.

Being the youngest family member was hard for Stella, whose siblings had all now grown up around her. But her cousin Delilah was still her best friend. It was lucky they lived so close, for the two girls would spend all their time with one another after schoo hanging out at the Dreyfus residence.
When Desi had left for college he had gifted Stella his record player. And as she became older and with the influence of her older siblings Stella became quite the music buff. She enjoyed teaching Delilah what was 'groovy', for poor Delilah was quite clueless!
'Mom and Dad don't let me listen to this stuff,' Delilah sighed one afternoon. 'Daddy says it's just noise. They're such squares - they only let me listen to classical music to help improve my piano.'
Stella pitied her cousin's strict parents - the perk of being the youngest of 5 was that she was able to get away with doing as she liked, unlike Delilah, who as an only child had the strict focus of both her parents and their expectations.
But Delilah annoyed Stella too, for she was such a fangirl! Every time she was over she asked where Leo was - and if he was at home, she would gush to him about how much she loved his music.
'Your brother is practically famous, Stella!' she would sigh every time she saw Leo. Stella didn't really care - his music was good, but he was still just Leo her grumpy brother.

Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar// Sam Wilson x Desi!Reader.
Summary: Sam and y/n are childhood friends who drift apart as life gets in the way. However, in that moment,it's like no time has passed.
__
(Okay quick A/N:i've mentioned y/n is desi but just to further clarify, in this scenario y/n is indian desi. since the word desi encapsulates a lot of people from a lot of countries, i just thought id mention that y/n is indian here. thanks! hope you enjoy it!)
__
Sam's phone call was a surprise, to say the least. The man was off saving the world, being a hero, making headlines. It didn't make sense for him to be calling you out of the blue.
_____
Growing up in Louisiana wasn't easy as a dark skinned desi girl. The red that some people adorned their values with bled through a lot, some of their beliefs didn't align with the red bindi your mom adorned. It was difficult finding a community, let alone one you could truly say were your friends. Sam Wilson, however, was more than eager to be a part of your colorful life. You lived right next door when you were kids and he seemed more like a blessing than a neighbor. You absolutely loved dancing and Navratri was a time where loud garba music was blasting in your house all the time. Curious little Sam couldn't help but wonder what was happening and walked up to your door, knocking on your door impatiently. You opened the door, looking at the little boy who seemed to be about your age, maybe older by a year or two. "Hey, um, what's up? I live next door, my name's Sam." "Y/n", you say as you extend your hand out to the boy, waiting for him to shake it but his eyes were stuck on you. You thought it was because something was wrong with you while he thought you were the most beautiful 8 year old in the world, in your little chaniya choli and a dainty maang teeka in your parted black bob and payals around your ankles.
"Beta, kya kar rahi hai? Bola hai na darwaza akele mummy ke bina mat kholna?!"(what are you doing, kid? Haven't I told you not to open the door without mommy?!) ,your mom yelled as she ran to the door, halting beside you. "Mummy, yeh Sam hai. He said he lives next door. Aur yeh mujhe khade khade bas ghoore ja raha hai".(this is Sam,he's standing here staring at me)
Sam, realizing he's been really impolite begins talking, instantly kicking in his southern manners, "Ma'am, I'm Sam, i live next door!" "Hi Sam, what can we do for you?", your mom asks the boy with a smile, her annoyance melting away. "Well, I heard really loud music and it's nothing like what the folks around here play, um not to say you're not a part of the neighborhood, I mean you are and I'm not here to talk badly about the music because I really like the music that's why I'm here and yeah I was wondering why you're playing the loud music, it's not that I have a problem with it or anything, like I said,"he finally finishes rambling, "I really like the music." Sam takes a huge breath in as he stops. You giggle in response and your mom smiles at him. "Well Sam, today is a very special day! We're going to be celebrating a festival called Navratri!", your mom replies, "It lasts for nine whole days! We dance a lot, we eat a lot, we pray to Goddess Durga and have a lot of fun, isn't that right, baccha?," she turns to you responding with a nod. "The music playing is called garba music, isn't it fun to listen to?" "Yes, ma'am, it is!," Sam replies excitedly.
"Sam! Where are you, boy?!" Sam perks up, realization hitting him. He was late for dinner and will now have to listen to his mom set him straight. "Well ma'am, I guess I'll leave now, my ma's calling for me, it was nice meeting y'all!" He does a little hat tip, smiling sheepishly. "Sam, come over sometime if you want! You can listen to as much garba music as you like!", your mom calls out to him. "Yeah Sam, I'll teach you how to dance!", you say, confident in your ability to make him your friend. Sam smiles, "Yes ma'am, I will! Oh and y/n, I really hope you do!" He almost has to hold in his excitement so as not to skip and give it away. That fortunate day paved the way for a beautiful, nurturing friendship. Your families became acquainted with each other and they, too, loved each other's company.
The friendship you shared with the boy with the toothy grin sooned turned into something more. You were both too scared to admit it, knowing that if it was unrequited, you'd both lose something that was far too precious to take a chance on. The day before Sam left for his first tour, the two of you spent a few choice hours in each other's presence by the dock, under the stars. "Abhi na jao chhod kar, ke dil abhi bhara nahi," you hummed under your breath as you fought tears knowing the distance would probably not sustain your friendship. It wasn't out of fear that you'd lose him, it was out of the fear that maybe losing him would be better than having to be so close and yet miles away from his heart. "What's that you're singing?", Sam asked, his warm brown eyes making you feel protected against the cold breeze over the water. You reply, with a twinkle of melancholy in your dark eyes, "Just a song."
But the both of you knew it was more than that.
_____
The tours, the avenging, the war, the blip ; Sam Wilson still hadn't forgotten about you. You hadn't forgotten about him either.
You both had a way of staying with each other without having to be there in your form. You lived in each other's minds and hearts and mended each other's cracks with those parts of yourselves.
This didn't mean you had actually seen each other since that night by the dock. The both of you only had a couple phone calls keeping you connected after. But time did as time does and you felt yourselves drifting away.Neither of you tried to reconnect either. Sam felt it was the right thing to do, to spare himself some heartache; so did you. Your lives were vastly different after he left for his tour and the two of you wanted to disturb the balance in your lives after.
So as you sat on the sofa in your childhood home in Louisiana as the sun shone brightly, Sam's name on your phone made your heart drop to your stomach. What could he possibly be calling about?
_____
So much had happened, in your lives, your friendship, the world in general, even the universe if you will. You couldn't help but wish he wanted to build the spark that always was a part of your friendship into a fire that gave you some much needed warmth.
"Hello?," you answer, picking up the phone. "Hey y/n, " you hear Sam on the other end and you find yourself letting out a sharp breath you didn't know you'd held in, " how you doin'? ". " I'm good, Sam. How are you? "you respond. He answers in a single word, "Good ". As much as this small talk felt like it was sucking the life out of you especially because you guys were once inseparable , you were okay with just hearing his voice after all this time. However, you couldn't just pretend this attempt at conversation by Sam and you was exactly normal between the two of you. So, you decided to tell him exactly how it is. "Sam, I-", he cuts you off" Open the door, y/n", "What?", "Open the damn door, y/n", you can almost hear his smile through the phone.
You walk towards the door, almost too fast, nearly tripping over your teapoy and you open the door, hands shaking with nervous hope. "Hey, you," Sam smiles at you with that same toothy smile you'd seen all those years ago during Navratri, "miss me?" You couldn't help but tackle him in a hug, distance and longing and silent innocent grudges be damned and in that moment all you could do was thank Durga Ma for bringing him to your door all those years ago.

I. Koi Mil Gaya
Koi Mil Gaya. Mera Dil Gaya.
There’s a peculiar charm to airports. The continuous hum of cheerful chatter, luggage wheels rolling softly on shining white tiles, and cell phones ringing create a lively atmosphere. The pungent aroma of coffee beans wafting from cafe stalls brings the comfort and warmth of home to a junction where different parts of the world connect.
It’s late in the afternoon. The sun pours through the large ceiling to floor windows that curve around the place. Streams of people flow through the terminal building while others sit in the lounge, either excited or bored.
"Oho, Ummi, I'll be fine," you groaned on the phone, pulling your carryon as you made your way to the gate. "I've been on a plane before.”
Ummi replies with a snarky remark, but you know she's just worried underneath it.
“Okay, maybe not alone, but how hard can it be? I’ll be fine. Stop worrying,” you replied. Ummi releases a deep sigh and hands the phone over to your father. "Hello? Abbu?" you said, "Hanji, main thik hu. Hanji, hanji, sab kuch meray paas hi hai.”
"Are you sure you'll be okay?" Abbu asks one last time just to make sure.
You sigh deeply. "Yes, I promise. I’ll be fine. It's a direct flight to London. I just have to get on the right plane. That's it.”
Unfortunately, your word wasn’t enough for him. He goes on to lecture you about the dangers of the airport with the classic “young girls shouldn’t be traveling alone” spiel. After hearing the very same lecture for years, reiterated with a new subject matter so many times, it automatically goes through one ear and out the other.
You knew he meant well. He always did. Every step he took had the wellbeing of his family in mind. But sometimes he overdid it; and it was those certain moments that made you cringe.
Your ears perked up when the PA system spoke overhead. “Passengers for Flight 9B4 to London, please go to Gate 36.”
"Abbu, I’ll talk to you later!” you exclaim. “They're calling my flight. I gotta go. Bye!" You hang up on him before he can say anything with a mischievous grin.
You speed walk down the terminal, using the overpass with directions as a guide. Another announcement has you running through the crowds, slightly pushing and whispering sorries as you do. By the time you get to the gate you’re a heaving mess. You give your boarding pass to the gate agent while bending over to catch your breath.
“Made it just in time,” she chirped with an amused smile.
You reply with a breathy laugh, unable to say a word.
Damn, I’m out of shape.
She verifies your boarding pass and hands it back. “Enjoy your flight.”
You thank her before entering the air bridge and into the plane. A gorgeous blond attendant at the door greets you warmly then guides you up the aisle towards the first class seats. You find your seat by the window. Slipping your carryon into the overhead compartment, you take your seat then pull out your phone to message your dad about successfully getting on the plane.
From the corner of your eye, you see a guy lifting his bag to place it in the compartment above. The hem of his shirt hovers just above his waist as he stretches, showing the band of his Calvin Klein boxers and a teaser of what seems to be a very sculpted torso.
You whip your head towards the window, embarrassed by yourself for looking at him. You hear the seat next to you dip and groan inwardly. You give him a side glance as he rustles through his backpack for something.
His side profile is gorgeous. Short, fluffy brown locks just begging your fingers to run through them. A perfectly straight nose and a sculpted jaw.
A phone notification forces you to look away. It's a message from Abbu wishing you safe travels. A grin spreads on your face.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome onboard Flight 9B4 with service from New York to London," the head attendant announces.
"Mind if I squeeze this right here?" he says, already pushing his bag between your legs and his.
I mean you already did?
"Yeah, that's fine," you reply.
"Thanks," he grins.
"We ask that you please fasten your seatbelts at this time and please turn off all electronic devices, including laptops and cellphones," the attendant drolls. "Thank you for choosing British Airways. Enjoy your flight."
You listen to her directions and securely strap yourself in. You take a deep breath and relax into your seat as the plane begins to move.
"Nervous?"
You turn over to find the guy looking at you with a goofy smile.
"No," you replied, a bit harsher than you intended to.
"I was just asking," he chuckles. "I'm nervous."
"First time?" You asked.
"No," he denied with a shake of the head. "I always get nervous. You never know what can happen y'know? Like what if the engine bursts when we're over the ocean? We're all fucking screwed."
He had a point and it was a plausible fear, but what decent human being would actually come out and say it while the plane was taking off?
You look at him completely dumbfounded.
"Didn't mean to scare you."
Your lips contort into a pout. "I'm not afraid."
He shrugs. "Looks like you are."
"Well, I'm not," you affirm.
"Alright, so when the plane takes a nosedive into the ocean, I'll count on you to save me 'cause I'm going to be scared out of my mind."
"I'm not going to save you," you reply flatly.
"Ouch," he chuckles, his eyes crinkling at the corners when he does. "Whatever happened to being a Good Samaritan?"
"We'd both die instantly. There's no point in helping."
"Geez, you're depressing."
You fall back into your seat as the plane begins to rise.
"Oh, this is it," he announces with exaggerated excitement.
"Can you please be quiet?"
"Sorry," he whispers apologetically.
You look out the small window, watching the plane lift off the ground and rise into the sky. Even as the engines rumbled and the ringing in your ears grew irritating, the scenery through the little window made your heart feel at ease. The clouds flowed constantly like sheets that stretched to the horizon. As the wings sliced through the dense layer, a brilliant evening sun scattered a hazy pink over the clouds, leaving you in awe and admiration. The plane levels and sets on a steady course over the clouds.
You reach down into your handbag and pull out the novel you've been trying to finish.
"Is that the Kite Runner?" he asks.
"It is," you reply with a smile. The first time you've smiled in your short time with him and he has to admit it's a pretty one.
"That's a great book! I finished it in three days."
"Oh wow," you exclaimed, slightly embarrassed that it was taking you weeks. Not your fault though. You were busy.
"Yeah," he sighs, reminiscing a good memory. "I don't read many books, but that one," he points at the book in your hand. "It moved me to tears."
Your hand brushes over the cover. "Yeah, I like it so far. I love how flawed Amir is and how he strives to be better. It's so relatable."
"Yeah, it's so realistic," he replies. "I cried when he found out Hassan died."
"Hassan dies?" You gasped.
From the dumbfounded look on your face, he realizes that he's committed one of the greatest sins. "What? No!" He laughs nervously. "I meant Baba dies."
"Baba dies too?"
"No," he shakes his head. "Nobody dies. They all live—happily. They all live a happy ending."
He can feel a thousand curses shot in his way just by the way you're glaring at him.
"Aha," he laughs awkwardly. "I'll just shut up now."
"Good idea," you mumble.
"Would you two like anything?" The flight attendant asked.
"Uh, yeah I'll have some water," he replies then turns to you. "Do you–"
"No thank you," you replied curtly, opening up your book to where you left off.
Bucky takes the bottle from the attendant with a sheepish smile. He decides not to bother you anymore and pulls out his air pods to listen to some music that would hopefully lull him to sleep. He puts on his slow playlist then shifts into his seat until he feels comfortable. He closes his eyes, allowing the music to relax him and just as his consciousness begins to ebb, a heavy thud on his shoulder brings him back to reality.
He turns to find you fast asleep with your head resting against his shoulder.
Bucky couldn’t stop his lips from stretching into a wide grin. There's just something so intimate about someone —stranger or not— falling asleep on your shoulder that makes your heart flutter. It made his insides flip and a light blush scatter on his cheeks. He sits quietly, making sure not to move too much so he doesn’t wake you.
Wide awake, he twiddles his thumbs, wondering what to do. He sees the book in your lap and slowly slips it out from underneath your hand. You wouldn't mind if he borrowed it. He flips to the first page and starts to read, delving deep into a distant world that rested in his hands.
As Bucky travels back to 1970’s Afghanistan through the memories of his flawed storyteller, Amir, a brilliant idea pops in his mind.
It's a stretch, but it might just work.
All he needs is a piece of paper and a pen.
"Farhan!" You wave in excitement.
"Y/N!" He shouts back, weaving through the crowd to get to you.
You jump into his arms and give your brother a tight hug.
"I've missed you so much!" you whined, shaking him from side to side.
"I've missed you too," he says, a chuckle coloring his words. You push him back to have a good look at him.
"You look kinda skinny," you comment, "have you been eating?"
Farhan rolls his eyes. "You sound like mom." He takes the suitcase by your side and pulls it along. "Now come on, let's get out of here."
Farhan was your mother's pride and joy. She loved all her children, but she loved him just a little bit more.
He was the trophy child of the family, and as the heir to one of the largest enterprises in the world, he had to be. He was the best in school, the best on the field, and had a magnetic personality that attracted crowds from miles away. If it wasn't his personality that attracted others it was his looks. He was the very definition of tall, dark, and handsome with the most gorgeous hazel eyes that fringed with smooth green under the right light. You can't recall how many times your friends asked if he was single. As if you'd actually give them a chance with your brother.
After graduating from Oxford with an MBA degree, he decided to stay in England and work at the London branch of the company, honing his skills before he took his throne.
Farhan was perfect in every way and your parents wouldn't miss a chance to boast about him. He was the envy of the elite. His name was clear of scandals and only marked with achievement after achievement, raising the family name to soaring heights.
Only problem he had was that he refused to get married. He wouldn't even look at the pictures of girls your mother offered him. When she'd asked him why he didn't want to, he always had the same answer.
"They don't want me, they want my name."
Sometimes, you wished you had his boldness.
"How was the flight?" Farhan asked as he pulled out of the parking lot.
"Good," you replied. You cringe from embarrassment, remembering how you slept on that guy's shoulder the entire flight.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing," you turn to look out the window, watching raindrops racing down the side of the window. "It's kind of weird sitting on this side of the car," you laugh.
He chuckles. "It is, but you get used to it after a while. How's the wedding going?"
You exhale deeply while leaning against the window. "I don't know, ask Ummi."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means, Ummi does everything. I just sit there and look pretty."
Farhan laughs from his stomach. "Why not tell her to ease back a bit?"
"I don't mind it,” you explained. “Honestly, I'm grateful. I can't plan shit, but I just wished she wouldn't talk about it so much."
Farhan’s brows crease in confusion. “You’re not getting cold feet are you?”
“N-no!” you stammered. “It just gets me anxious, that’s all.”
He sighs, waiting at the light. “You bring it on yourself, Y/N,”
Your head whips towards him. “And what do you mean by that?”
“You try so hard to please everyone else, that you end up not caring for yourself."
“That’s not true—”
“We both know this wedding is only to please Abbu," he interjects with a sad chuckle. “You’re only marrying Ayan for him.”
You scoffed. “I’m marrying Ayan because I want to," you counter. “He’s sweet and really nice—”
“But do you love him?”
You fall back against the window with a sigh. “Farhan I don't want to talk about this," you mumbled.
"But don't you think you should?" He questions.
“Yeah, Abbu picked Ayan for me. So what about it?" you lectured, waving your hands around. "He's always done what's best for us. So what’s to say he won’t pick the one that’s the best for me?”
“But shouldn’t you be the one who knows what’s best for you? Not Abbu?” he contended, eyes fixated on the street. “You say you’re an independent adult, Y/N, but you’ve never stepped out from underneath his wing. You've never tried anything for yourself, it's always what he wants," he jabbed, hitting you harder than he had intended to.
You retreat to your window in defeat and shame.
“Hey," he whispers, shaking your arm. You don't look at him cause you might just cry; and that's one thing you'd never do in front of him. At least not anymore.
"I’m not trying to make you feel bad, I just worry about you sometimes," he confesses. "I want you to be happy doing what you want to do and not what others want from you."
You turn just a little to peek over at him with a quaint smile. He smiles back, holding your hand tight. “This is what I want. Really it is. Don't worry."
He laughs in defeat. "Whatever you say, Aloo."
You smack his arm. "Don't call me that!"
You plop onto the bed after unpacking your bags. Farhan had to take a business call, leaving you to your own devices. You scroll through different apps, bored out of your mind and a bit sleepy.
A notification drops down.
Ayan
Have fun on your trip! Call me when you get the time. 😊
Your insides twist at the message and not in the excited, butterflies in your stomach kind of way. It’s more like a dreadful duty that you don’t want to do right now.
You swipe the notification away, promising yourself that you’d call him tomorrow, and decide you should go to sleep. You reach over for your bag on the bedside table to get your phone charger. You pull out the novel you quickly shoved inside before leaving the plane, and notice a paper sticking out at the top of the book. You raise a brow in confusion. You never had any bookmarks, and just folded the corners to save the page. You pulled it out and weren’t expecting a message.
Sorry about spoiling the book. Maybe I can make it up to you? If you’re staying in London, hit me up.

My Masterlist

Word Count: 1800+
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Tamilian!Reader, Natasha Romanoff x OMC Arjun Y/L/N
Warnings: MINIMAL TAMIL DIALOGUE (I’m more than happy to translate!) & TAMIL CULTURE , References to Hinduism, Mild Swearing
A/N:This is my entry for @bucky-smiles‘s 2K Bollywood Writing Challenge! This challenge got me so excited because I wanted to show off my culture in my writing! My prompt was to write a Bucky fic inspired by my all time favorite Bollywood movie - Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani! Y’all should go watch it because it’s fucking amazing! But I decided to write this fic with a Tamilian reader because I am Tamilian. I was born in Sri Lanka. But I know that there are a few other Tamilian friends on this site who would love to read this. @jalapenobarnes & @fafulous, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU, MY CHELLANGALA! Also, all my fellow Desi Marvel stans are more than welcome to read this fic and spread the love! <3
Natasha Romanoff had ever been the most “feminine” or “lady-like” or a “girly-girl” like most people had wanted her to be. She had never fit into society’s per-conceived notion that a woman must be a certain way. Born in Russia, she had moved to America when she had been six years of age. Fitting in had never been easy for her. For starters, it had taken her years’ worth of sessions with a dialect coach and tons of practice to be rid of her Russian accent. Eventually, when managed to get her English language skills in check, not many of the kids she went to school with were willing to take a chance on her friendship, except for Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes.
During her teenage years, she was the most rebellious kid in all of Brooklyn. A tomboy, they called her, with her short red hair, ripped skinny jeans, leather jackets, tattoos and piercings. Oh she had it all! She had spent most of her time skateboarding around Williamsburg and sneaking into the local art shows with her two best friends. But things had changed so much since then.
She was a grown woman now, well into her thirties. Her short red hair had grown down to her midriff. Her nose piercing had closed up years ago, the tattoos on her back barely visible to anyone anymore. The ripped jeans and leather jackets had been replaced by pencil skirts and pantsuits. Natasha had not expected to be a rather popular artist in New York, with her own studio in her hometown and her masterpieces selling for millions of dollars.
Perhaps, the most shocking thing about Nat’s life was not her physical transformation or the way she had realized her dreams of becoming a successful artist. It was how she had fallen in love with a certain Arjun Y/L/N. Born in Russia and raised in Brooklyn, she never would have expected to be marrying into Tamilian family. Yet, love did not know or care about one’s ethnicity or culture. She loved him and he loved her, so now they were getting married.
A month from today, she would be Mrs. Y/L/N. But for now, she was spending her last few days as Miss. Romanoff handwriting her wedding invitations to her loved ones. She never would have thought that she would have a traditional Hindu wedding; it had been her idea ever since Arjun had proposed. After all, she did have a wonderful relationship with his family and she felt honored to be a part of that. Embracing the culture that her man had grown up with had been the best part of getting married. She had always been a part of the family.
The wedding preparations were well under way now. While it was meant to be the bride’s family who was meant to take care of most of the expenses for the multiple ceremonies and rituals, your family had let go of such traditional notions for the sake of this union. The bride and groom were making an equal financial contribution to the wedding, a mutual decision between the two of them.
“Amma?” Natasha called out to your mother, who had been busy preparing some sweet treats that were meant to go along with the invitations. “Did Y/N tell you what time she gets out of work? She was supposed to be here an hour ago to help me out with the rest of the invitations.”
Your mother drained the last batch of jalebi’s from the frying pan before drenching them in the sugar syrup. She turned off the stove and wiped her hands with a tea towel, walking over to the dining table where her daughter-in-law-to-be had been sitting for the last hour. “You know how she is. She never gets out of work on time and when I ask her why, she gives you a speech about how she worked so hard to become a doctor for the sake of her family and that we should not be complaining about how much she works.”
Nat let out a chuckle as she set down her pen. “You’d think that she would have taken some time off from work to help out with the wedding. It is her brother’s wedding and I am her best friend, aren’t I?”
Before your mother could respond to that, she heard the sound of your car pulling up in the driveway. “And there she is!”
Hopping out of your car, you ran your hand through your partially went hair. Having gotten out of work later than you had expected, you had rushed back to your apartment to shower. You had not bothered with drying your hair, as you had been in a hurry. “Amma!” You called out to your mother as you used your key to unlock the door and entered, kicking off your shoes and making your way down to the living room. “Amma, where are you?”
“In here, Y/N!” Natasha called out to you as she picked up her pen and another invitation, looking down at her list of people whom she still had to invite to the wedding.
You skipped over to the kitchen. “Amma!” You exclaimed as you pulled your mother into a hug, placing a kiss on her cheek before giving her your best pouty lips. “Amma, ore oru strong cup of coffee, please? I just got out of work and I’m so tired. Please?”
Your mother gave you a playful eye roll. “Sit down; I’ll bring you a cup of coffee.”
“You’re a good Amma!” You gave her a nod as you walked over to the table, hugging Natasha from behind. “Anni!”
“That is something I can definitely get used to.” She chuckled, softly. “You are such a spoiled brat and you know that, right?”
“Perks of being the youngest in the family, I guess.” You admitted with a shrug of your shoulders, pulling up the chair across from Nat and sitting down. “Amma, is there any tiffin? I’m hungry!” You called out towards the kitchen, earning an eye roll from your sister-in-law-to-be.
“Don’t expect me to spoil the shit out of you when you come over to your brother and I’s.” She joked.
“What? Are we really setting the ground rules now?” You asked her with an eyebrow raised, giggling softly as you eyed the stack of envelopes that she had already labeled in calligraphy. You picked up the one on top, seeing the name ‘Steven Rogers’ written in cursive. “Did Steve say anything about coming to the wedding? The last I heard, he fired the head chef at his restaurant and he’s looking for a new one. I think he has a lot going on now, ever since that food critic gave him a poor rating and tanked his business.”
“Oh no, he’s been saying how busy he is. But if he doesn’t show up, I’m planning on getting my ass to Manhattan and dragging him over to the temple myself.”
You let out a laugh as you shook your head. Those two really were the best of friends. You, Natasha and Steve had attended the same high school together. Of course, you had not been such close friends back then. But Steve and Natasha had been best friends since middle school. They had practically been inseparable for as long as you’ve known them.
While you had only been friends with Natasha since your second year of undergrad, you had known her long before. You had become the least unlikely pair of friends – the rebellious Russian girl and the studious Tamilian nerd. You owed it all to that one ski trip to The Hamptons a little over twelve years ago, for bringing the two of you together. Now she was marrying your older brother and becoming a part of your family.
“Oh shit, I screwed this up!” Natasha groaned as she crossed out one of the names that she had just transcribed onto an envelope, tossing it aside before picking up a new one to fix her mistake.
Your eyebrows furrowed as you reached across the table to grab the envelope that she had jut discarded, seeing his crossed out name written in black ink.
Bucky.
“J-A-M-E-S...” Natasha spelled out his name as she wrote it neatly across the envelope. “B-U-C-H-A-N-A-N. BARNES. There!” Picking up an invitation and slipping it into the envelope, she sealed it with a lick and set it on top of her finished stack of envelopes. “Thank you for helping me with writing these invitations, Y/N.” She remarked, sarcastically. “Now we need to pack up the sweet treats and mail them out!”
You gave her a nod. “We’ll do that first thing in the morning.”
Once your brother got home from work, the four of you enjoyed a well-deserved family meal together. After a hard day’s work, it was something that you very much needed. Even though you had moved out of your childhood home once you had graduated from Columbia Medical School, you had been a frequent visitor ever since. As your mother lived alone once you had fled the nest, you made sure to keep her company during her lonely nights. With the wedding preparations, it seemed more convenient to be at the house more often. While Arjun and Natasha were staying over, you tend to pop by every now and then to take on the role of your sister-in-law-to-be’s Maid of Honor and help out with some of the wedding planning.
After dinner, your brother had retreated to his old bedroom to attend an important phone call from work. As Nat and your mother shared the task of doing dishes and packing up the sweets that your mother had prepared, you found yourself lurking under the bed in your childhood bedroom. You retrieved a little cardboard box that you had been keeping hidden for years now. This box was filled with so many memories from your childhood and teenage years – from your high school yearbook to the Polaroid photos that you had taken during your trip to The Hamptons.
You flipped through the yearbook to see the photos of you and your friends – Y/N Y/L/N, Natasha Romanoff, Steven Rogers and James Barnes. Bucky. There was always something special about him, the way he lit up every room he had walked into. Bucky was the loudest voice in the room, the life of the party. He was the nerd with the camera, consumed by his wanderlust. He was a man of everyone’s dreams, with dreams of his own that he was chasing all the way to the other side of the world. Bucky. Where ever in the world he was right now, nobody loved to go on an adventure like him. Twelve years it had been since you had first fallen in love with him.

hey any good movie suggestions? -action -romcom -fantasy -comedy asking for a friend haha thanks! have a good day/night. 😊
oh boy, when i get asks like this i blank out immediately, but here ya go! Spoiler alert: it gets pretty damn long.
Romance/ Comedy/ RomCom:
1. Crazy Rich Asians:Beautifully filmed, and extremely talented cast and such a gorgeously done idea. Not to mention, Henry Golding’s back muscles
2. Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani (Hindi)I’m a desi and proud, so let’s go this way too. It’s so fun and bold and honestly such a change of pace from other Hindi movies. I’d die for Deepika Padukone and Kalki Koechlin
3. 2 Weeks NoticeI don’t think anyone really realised the sudden influx of Hugh Grant content on my account, but people who know me know i’m an absolute slut for his wit and charm. This is one of his funniest, without a doubt.
4. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (Hindi)I’m not sure whether this goes under romance or comedy, but it’s one of my favourites anyway. Beautiful locations, their chemistry is amazing and great sub plots.
5. To All The Boys I’ve Loved BeforeLara Jean and Peter Kavinsky. I have feelings for both of them.
6. The Set-UpI honestly didn’t know what to expect while watching this, but it was so funny and I really loved it.
7. 3 Idiots (Hindi)Such an important movie for parents of kids studying in India and other countries where education is the utmost priority.
8. Bangalore Days (Malayalam)It’s probably not the best movie to exist, but it’s very close to my heart.
Fantasy:
1. Harry PotterYou can’t go wrong with an ultimate Harry Potter marathon. Even though the books are leagues above the movies, I still adore them for doing the best they can.
2. Pirates of the CaribbeanHilarious, smart, Elizabeth Swan. Need I say more?
3. The MCUAlthough watching all of them is highly recommended, some of my favourites include Iron Man 3, the Avengers, Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Civil War and Thor Ragnarok.
Thriller:
1. Searching (2018)One of the best damn movies out there. It’s filmed entirely through different forms of technology, no real life acting and it pulls it off so well.
2. Drishyam (Malayalam)My native place is Kerala, and they produced this actual beauty of a thriller movie. It may not be the best you’ve seen, but I loved it.
3. The Da Vinci Code It mind fucked me.
4. Inferno It’s one of the movies that followed the Da Vinci Code and it made me actually want to get into Dante and art, but it unfortunately didn’t happen. Still a good movie.
5. Hush Okayyyy, I don’t think I ever screeched so hard while watching a serial killer movie. It screwed with me horribly but it was a great idea and they pulled it off well!
6. Talwar (Hindi)Oh boy. It’s based on a real murder of a young girl in Noida, and it explores all the different murder suspects and things that went wrong in the investigation.
7. Pink (Hindi)Powerful, and stellar performances by everyone on the cast. A serious must watch, especially with the movements that have started.
8. Kahaani (Hindi)Bro this was crazy and I’m sure all my Indian friends can vouch for this.
Animation:
1. Into the Spider-Verse.Watch it. Watch it. WATCH IT. IT’S UNBELIEVABLY GOOD. SO. FUCKING. GOOD.
2. TangledThe love of my life, Flynn Rider has been ruining expectations for me for years now because he’s perfect and no one can match up to his standard. Probably my all time favourite movie.
3. CocoBeautiful animation. Amazing plot twists. Absolutely gorgeous.
4. Inside OutClosest I’ve come to actually crying in a theatre was when I watched this masterpiece.
Coming of Age/Self Realization:
1. Perks of Being a WallflowerIt dealt with trauma and depression the way it needed to be dealt with and really showed the ugly side of it.
2. The DUFFOne of the lighter movies on the list, but hilarious all the same :)
3. Dear Zindagi (Hindi)Honestly one of the last few good movies to come out of Shah Rukh Khan now. So, so honest and refreshing about mental health in India.
4. Queen (Hindi)This inspired my mother to go to Paris where we promptly got pickpocketed and spent the next few days on a budget. It’s an amazing movie, and Kangana Raunat killed it.
Biopics:
1. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (Hindi)This part is probably biased because I haven’t watched a lot of biopics outside of Indian ones, but Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was a knock-out. Farhan Akhtar deserves everything. One of India’s finest athletes, and the journey he followed to get to the top.
2. Neerja (Hindi)Goodness, there wasn’t a dry eye in the theatre by the time it was done. She was an air hostess working in the Pan Am flight that got hijacked years ago.
3. Bohemian RhapsodyUgh. Bright, fun, and then it got so dark it was crazy. Freddie would have approved of it.
4. Hidden FiguresThree women working for NASA. It was so empowering and absolutely amazing.
5. Dangal (Hindi)Ugh, so so good. It’s about three girls who were raised as boxers in India by their dad.
6. Hachi: A Dog’s TaleI felt empty after watching this.
I’m also throwing in a couple of TV show recs, in case you want something new to watch!
TV Shows:
1. The Mentalist
2. The Office
3. Brooklyn Nine-Nine
4. New Girl
5. F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
6. Jessica Jones season 1
7. Sherlock
8. How To Get Away With Murder

St Sea Angel AU
Title: Weekend at The Dorms Pairing: None Chapter: N/A Category: Seaspear Au: St. Sea Angel Word Count: 3,282 Rating:T Summary: School can be hard, going to a boarding school? Even harder, especially when you're put into a special dorm and cram school for students who were less than normal, and much more than meets the eye. But you get use to it eventually.
St. Sea Angel's Boarding School for boys and girl was a school that housed and taught grades from Elementary through College, which has stood for more than a hundred years. But what a lot of people didn't know is that some of the student's it housed and taught weren't as human as they seems.
Otis was one of them, being born to a human mother, and a kitstune father, making him a half demon. And while being very docile compared to other demons, monsters, mystics and yokia, he was sent to the school in order to be taught to control that half of him that was demon, and live in human society. Easier said then done once high school rolls around, especially when not only do you have to live in a special dormitory far away from the other dorms that housed human students, but also went to a special cram school for half demons and those who could see the unseen.
Needless to say, school doesn't get any easier, whether you're a human teen or not.
It was still in the middle of the winter season, and where the school was placed, in winter, you got plenty of snow, and the summer time was blazing hot, but Otis tried not to complain.
That morning wasn't much different than any other since the school year started.
He got up early on instinct, like he did every morning, to start the day. So after brushing and tying back his long white hair, plus being careful not to wake his roommate, as well as his house guest, the fox went down to the dorm's kitchen to start on a breakfast for at least fifteen people, hence why he had to get up so early. He was the dorm's in house cook after all.
Students attending the school got a monthly allowance that was meant to pay for school supplies or other things, like special meals, or snacks and so on. Otis had applied to be his dorms in house cook after Zero scared the last one off, allowing him to get paid for his time, as well as having fun cooking for people, so he had no complaint.
The fox had gotten up before the sun had a chance to rise to make preparation for the meal ahead, though this was slightly before Zero, his roommate, got up for his morning run.
It was the weekend and everyone either had the day to themselves and were sleeping in, or were doing something else. The half fox was someone who was more or less a morning person, after he managed to wash his face and have his first cup of coffee, so after cleaning off the tables, and his cooking area, the fox teen got to work.
With his long fox tail gently wagging as he started preparing rice porridge, thing about the half kistune was, that his demon half had been conditioned to Japanese food, but honestly, Otis would eat just about anything considered food. Still, he tried to make other things too, since his other dorm mates tended to complain or make requests. With that in mind Otis started cracking eggs to make omelets.
To might be wondering why it was no one noticed that there were half demons attending the school, and the reason why was because even half demons could hide they're true appearance from people who couldn't see they're true nature, allowing them to live normally. Though things like his pointed ears and fangs never seemed to be hidden.
Said ears were perked up when he heard a small meow, looking towards the large window that lead to the eating area of the dorm cafeteria, Otis saw Peaches, Ryan's pet cat (who he later found out was actually a bakeneko) sitting on the window ceil, "Good morning Peaches, you hungry?" he asked and the can answered 'Yes!' she chirped, since they were both of the same origin, Otis could understand what she said, though despite probably being hundreds of years old, Peaches vocabulary was rather limited.
"Ok, I'll grill you some fish," he told her, and the cat started weaving herself between his legs purring, 'Fishy fish! Mushy Mushy!' the cat chanted happily as the half kistune got some fish out of the freezer. After cooking the fish, Otis masked it up in a bowl with some rice before giving it to the cat, who happily ate away.
As the minutes went by, those who were accustom to rising early started filling the empty dining area, either half asleep, or less than fully awake, Ryan being one of them, since he had slept over Friday night.
"Morning," Otis greeted as he poured the rice porridge in some bowls, "Good morning Otis," Ryan yawned, having stayed up pretty late studying for a test on Monday, "What's for breakfast…?" he asked sitting on a stool placed in front of the window's counter. "Rice omelets and rice porridge," Otis answered, his tail wagging happily. "Japanese style again?" Thomas an old not-friend of Otis' groaned annoyed, "Seriously? Can't you make anything else, like fried eggs and bacon like a normal person?" the teen asked sitting at one of the large tables.
"Rice porridge is easy to digest and is a good for you," The fox teen huffed as he started to add the egg covering to the steamed rice, "And rice omelets have all the protein you need to start the day, so don't complain unless you wanna be the one cooking," and with that Thomas shut up. Though he complained, it was mostly just to annoy the fox, because the teen usually ate everything on his plate. "I like the food you make Otis," Ryan chirped to cheer his friend up. "Thanks Ryan," Otis smiled, "If your going to stay another night, is there anything particular you want for dinner?" he asked as he got out some pickled vegetables to put in the porridge.
"What Is It With You Doting On Him!? Jeeze!" Thomas shouted annoyed, but Otis ignored him, "No, not really, like I said I like your cooking," Ryan gulped since he didn't really like being in the line of fire if and when the two started shouting at each other.
"Ok, than we'll have curry with rice and beef croquettes," that earned him an "Oh Come On!" from Thomas, the other two students just stayed out of it, too sleepy to complain about what they were being fed, and just tried to focus on not falling asleep at they're tables.
"What's with all the shouting?" Zero asked as he walked into the room, having finished his jog, "Otis making Japanese again?" he asked as he walked to sit at the counter, he got his answer when Otis started setting out the finished meals, "Oh shush, dog boy," the fox sighed. Zero had hell hound blood in him, though it had been one of his distant ancestors who had been the half demon in the family, the hound's blood was stronger in him than anyone else in recent generations for some reason. Oddly enough, despite this, the dog teen was a vegetarian.
"I won't complain so long as I can eat it," he replied starting on his porridge as the other students got up to get they're plates. Ryan took a bite of the fluffy egg and rice omelet and smiled, "It's really good," he commented making the half kistune smile happily, though it wasn't long before Peaches was meowing for seconds, "Ok ok, I'll make some more," The white haired teen laughed, "Peaches, don't bother Otis like that," the green eyed teen huffed at his cat, "It's fine," Otis chirped before making another bowl for her.
"Just remember everyone," Otis said in a loud voice, "It's also chore day, so make sure to get them done unless you want the dorm manager to get mad." He reminded them, making most of them groan.
Rolling his blue eyes, Otis sighed and started to eat his own breakfast.
"Are we late for breakfast again…?" A tiny voice asked as two little girls walked into the room, followed by a little black dog, "A little, but don't worry girls," the fox reassured the two sisters as he set out two small plates and bowls for them. The two girls were still in they're pajamas, the youngest one dressed in a pink night gown and hello-kitty slippers, while the other was in an over sized jersey working as a night dress.
"Not really, your foods still nice and warm," Otis told them as the two sisters climbed into the'yre chairs after the teen set down they're bowls and plates of food.
Rosa, and her younger step sister Desi, were in Elementary School, and seeing as they accidently entered a contract with a skull hound, they named Kuro Mori (or Kumo) the two were sent to St. Sea Angel, as well as put into the special dorms and cram school, seeing as they needed to know how to control they're yokia since they were too stubborn to break the contract, and had grown very, very attached to him, and vice versa.
Seeing as the boarding school didn't get as many "special" kids as it did in the beginning, the large, old dormitory housed boys and girls from different grades, girls on one side, boys of the other.
Desi, who was only 8, had already started to nod off before even putting anything in her mouth, and her sister, who was 9, had to shake her back awake, "Don't fall back asleep," Rosa told her before putting a spoonful of her omelet in her sister's mouth, trying to get her to at least eat before she nodded off again. "'m sowy sissy…" she muttered.
"Rosa, make sure Desi takes her bath today, I know how she can get," Otis reminded the older sister, who nodded, "I will, don't worry."
…
After everyone had they're fill of food, most of them left, while the two sisters, who had table cleaning and sweeping to do, stayed behind with Ryan and Otis, who were washing dishes. "You don't have to help Ryan," Otis told the smaller teen as he handed him a few dishes to dry a put away, "I don't mind, you did help me study all night, than you got up and made breakfast," Ryan smiled, meanwhile Kumo was licking the messy dishes clean of food, and would later be let loose on the oven to clean up the burnt and chard bits that had gotten left in there.
Needless to say, this was a pretty daily routine the kids had become accustom to, and despite school being hard, especially when a lot of them were far away from they're families, they tended to have a good time together.
After the chores were done, Otis and Ryan watched the two sisters as they played in the snow with they're skull hound, while sitting on the front doors steps. "So, those two are really here because they have a-uh…" Ryan tried to think of the word as he stroked Peaches fur, "Yokia," Otis said and he nodded, "And yes, they entered a contact with him by giving him a name, Skull Hounds aren't near Hyper level, but they're still pretty strong, this ones still a pup, so it's no wonder two little girls were able to contract it."
Ryan, despite having a cat demon for a pet, didn't know all that much about the world his best friend came from, in fact he didn't even know his cat was a yokia till about two weeks into the school year when she accidently scratched him while clawing at Otis when they first met. He had learned that an injury caused by a demon or other kind of creature could almost always give a person the ability to see the true nature, leading him to be rather stunned when Otis and Peaches appearances changed almost instantly.
If that hadn't happened, he'd still see Peaches as a normal house cat, Otis as a human teen, and probably Kumo as a normal black puppy, though now he knew why not only was he invited to this school, but also why they allowed Peaches to come with him. So many things were clearer now, but now things got more complicated too.
"Are they going to be ok?" he asked a little worried for the two children, "When he grows up I mean."
"Rosa and Desi are attending this school to control his yokia powers, only time will tell if they'll be able to handle him." The fox told the teen, his tail swaying against the steps. "So why does giving him a name mean they're contracted to him?" Ryan asked. "Names have more power than you think, give something a name, you grow attached to it and gives them more of a meaning." Otis went on, "For demons and other creatures, giving them a name means you can claim owner ship of them, if you know a demons true name, you can force even a hyper level demon to submit to you if you have a strong will."
"And… me and Peaches?"
"Peaches is a very old cat demon, she's docile, and has already recognized you as her owner by the way she tried to protect you when she sensed I was a half demon." Otis reassured his friend, petting the two tailed cat as she purred. "Younger demons tend to be different, because they're too young to know better, and on top of that, having contact holders who are also very young can be a bit much at first." Ryan nodded, but both teens flinched when they heard a loud scream, causing Otis's tail to frizz, both turned they're heads to see that Desi had tripped and fallen, scraping her knee. The fox teen quickly got up and walked over to her as Rosa tried to calm her sister, "It's ok sweetie," Otis cooed picking her up and rubbing her back, the younger sister didn't handle pain well.
"I think now's a good time to go inside anyways, your nose is all red from the cold," Otis chuckled as Desi pouted burying her face in his shoulder, not really wanting to stop playing in the snow, "Meanie," she muttered, and the four of them went inside.
"After your all bandaged up, I'll make some takoyaki, does that sound good?" the fox asked, his tail wagging, thing about Otis was, he just loved to be the big brother/mother of the house. "What's takoyaki?" Desi asked and Otis explained that traditionally, it was octopus covered in a batter than fried into little balls, but they could also have cheese or hotdogs if she preferred.
…
Back in the dorm room, Ryan started to go over the studying material another time, following the notes Otis wrote him, which highlight what would probably be on the test, sitting at the small table in the room while Rose went over her cram school material, the two of them waiting for Otis and Desi to come back with the snack they were making.
The small table, which Otis had told Ryan, was called a kotasu, which had a blanket and heater for the cold weather to keep warm, which Peaches and Kumo curled up under it, probably asleep. "Is cram school hard?" the teen asked as he flipped through the notebook. "It can be, a lot of the kids are older than us too, but Otis helps us a lot." She replied going through the specially modified work sheets from class. "Desi doesn't listen very well though, she's always gets distracted or scribbles on her work sheets." Rose added, "But I know she's trying, because she doesn't want them to take Kumo from us."
"I'm sure that won't happen, I doubt Otis would let it," with that reassurance, the brunette girl smiled, "Yea, I know."
A few minutes later Otis and Desi came back with a plate of tokayaki, "We're back! And we made lotsa takoyaki with different fillings!" Desi chirped happily as Otis set her down along with placing the plate on the table, along with a bowl of chopped fruit. "Careful, they're hot, so I'll get some picks you can use to eat with." Otis told them as he went over to his dressed, taking out a little box. When he opened it and placed the content on the table, the girls eyes lit up, "So cute!" Rosa smiled. It was a little bird cage shaped toothpick holder with colorful reusable toothpicks that had little birds at the top, sorta like the tiny swords you sometimes get with your sandwich. "These are so cute!" Desi cheered picking up a pink one.
"They make all kinds of cutesy things like this where my dad's from," Otis told them, "Like those pretty chop sticks you got us!" both girls chimed in smiling, "Yea, just like those, spoons, forks, chopsticks, anything really, Japanese love making things all showy."
"Like those bento lunches you always bring," Ryan mentioned, recalling how fancy Otis lunches always looked, always almost too pretty to eat. They all laughed and started to eat after Otis left for a quick moment, to bring back some mugs of hot chocolate. They all enjoyed the takoyaki as a nice snack before lunch.
"I'm back," Zero said entering the room, tossing his bag on his bed as he was followed by Britton, who had just happened to be visiting. Rosa ran up to Zero hugging him, "Hi Zero!" she chirped happy to see the hound.
"Hello," Otis greeted along with Ryan, "Hi," the blonde said and the two joined them at the table, "What're you eating?" the hound teen asked before taking a strawberry from the fruit bowl. "Takoyaki!" the youngest squealed loving how it turned out. "There's cheese, squid, hot dog, veggie and seaweed!"
"How do you tell which is which..?" Britton asked, tilting his head, "Just open one up."
Zero picked up a takoyaki that had a hotdog inside and set it on fire with his hell flames, were a bright green, being of hell hound decent he could easily smell what had meat in it. After the dumpling was burnt to a crisp he tossed it to Kumo, who had come out of hiding when he smelled something burning, and quickly ate up the charred food happily. "Good boy," he chuckled and tossed a seaweed filled on in his own mouth.
"Zero, no burning stuff inside the dorm room," Otis growled, his fluffy tail frizzing a bit, "You're going to set off the smoke detector again."
"Calm down, Otis. Don't get your tail in a knot." The hound rolls his green and red eyes with a grin.
The rest of that evening at dorms went on like it always did since school began. Otis made lunch and dinner, and everyone enjoyed a hot meal, even though Thomas still complained. And when the day came to an end, it was back to bed for everyone. Life at St. Sea Angel's wasn't so bad, but that was probably because it felt like a home away from home.

A/N:This is my entry for @bucky-smiles‘s 2K Bollywood Writing Challenge! Ever since I posted this fic, I have received so many kind messages from my fellow Tamilian and other Desi Marvel fans who appreciate the representation that this fic has provided for them. I appreciate every single one of you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much for your support for this fic!
You pushed your black framed glasses up your nose as you squinted, the lined piece of paper in your hand looked like it had been ripped off of an old diary that your mother used to keep. The strains of oil and turmeric on the corner of it, and your mother’s writing in smudging black ink; you wondered how she had even thought that you would be able to read what she had even written. You looked down to read the grocery list in your hand as you let out another exasperated sigh. Your mother’s squiggly Tamil manuscript was barely legible as you tried to figure out what she had written for you to buy.
Despite the fact that you had moved to New York when you had been eight years of age, you had managed to learn English as a second language. While you were fluently speaking English by the time you were ten and had worked rigorously to be rid of your accent that had been the cause of all of the bullying that you had to endure, you could not let go of your first language all that easily either. Your parents had been it their mission to ensure that both you and your brother did not forget how to read, write and speak your mother tongue. From binge-watching VHS copies of old South Indian soap operas to enrolling you in Tamil language credit courses while you were in high school, their mission had certainly been a success.
You spoke Tamil just as well as you wrote it. Your knowledge of Tamil literature and poetry was also fairly extensive, compared to most Tamil kids who were actually born in America. You had read most of the Thirukurral and the poems of Mahakavi Bharathiyar, even Kamba Ramayanam and Silappathikaram. You had your father to credit for that. Your reading comprehension was fairly decent as well, but nothing could have prepared you to decipher what your mother had written on that marinated grocery list of hers.
“Hey, what the fuck are you starin’ at, huh?!” You heard a familiar voice call out, startling you in an instant. “Haven’t you ever seen sexy legs before?!”
As you looked up from the grocery list in your hand, you noticed the familiar red-headed Russian girl whom you had once attended high school with. In her ripped denim shorts and leather jacket, she looked quite feisty as she argued with a young boy whom she had just caught staring at her from behind in the checkout line. She had always been a ticking time bomb, not taking shit from anyone, teachers, bullies and cat callers alike.
“... I have. But those legs aren’t sexy.” The boy had responded to her with sass.
Your eyes grew wide as you parted your lips, unable to believe that a boy his age would dare to challenge someone like that. What even happened to kids these days?
“I’ll fucking slap you!” Natasha Romanoff spat at the teen, raising her voice as she grew irritated by his response. “Apologize! Apologize, right fucking now.”
At that point, the entire grocery store had been staring at the two of them. Leave it to Natasha Romanoff to start a scene like this. She had done so much more during her time in high school though.
While the two of you had not been close, you knew her well enough to know that she was not one to be messed with. The number of times she had almost gotten into physical fights with the jocks and the bitchy cheerleader girls who teased her for being a tomboy and ended up in detention were endless. If it had not been for her two best friends, you were sure that she would have gotten suspended or expelled for her behaviour. After all, that was a consequence to her non-conformity to high school stereotypes.
This poor boy must have been taken aback by her outburst. But he must have thought twice before he stared at her ass and sassed her out when she caught him. If anything, he had to learn his lesson the hard way. “Sorry...”
“Good. Now go stand on the other checkout line and don’t even dare to stare at me, you idiot.”
As you watched the boy walk away from her in defeat, you made your way over to the checkout line having given up on figuring out what the remainder of items on your mother’s list were. If you could get out of here before it got dark, you could stop by the bookstore on your way home and pick up some of your textbooks for the next semester.
It was the holidays after all. You did not have any plans to celebrate; not that you had anything to celebrate anyways. Diwali had been a month ago and it had been a decent celebration. While lighting fireworks and clay lamps was out of the question, you had spent it with your family by heading to the temple and sharing some homemade sweet treats among yourselves. You and your family did not celebrate Christmas, so you had been planning to study your ass off during the holidays.
With your three weeks off from school, you were planning on getting a head start on your readings for the following semester. The perks of being a pre-med student at an Ivy League school meant that you had a lot of pressure to excel academically. Often times this meant that you barely led a social life. Not that you minded, really. You were content with spending all of your free time being buried in textbooks and studying the last of your teenage years away.
A typical Tamil girl your parents had always wanted you to be, you had retained your innocence for as long as you could. At twenty-one years of age, you had never been kissed and never had a drop of alcohol enter your system. You still lived at home with your parents while your older brother had found himself moving out after he had left high school. It was just how things were and you had accepted it, not having a single rebellious bone in your body. As most first and second generation immigrants alike, you had found it hard to be the perfect Tamil daughter and a perfect American teenager. You had resorted to being the former, therefore sacrificing any prospects of close friendships or a social life in the process.
As you made your way over to the checkout line next to hers and began to unload your shopping cart, Natasha was quick to notice you as she began unloading her shopping cart as well. Recognizing you in an instant, she grinned widely. “Y/N?! ...Y/N Y/L/N?” She called out to you, her lips curling into a smile as she shook her head in disbelief.
You smiled at her as you laid out your groceries onto the belt. “Hi... Natasha.”
“What’s up, dude? Long time, huh? What have you been up to these days?”
“Nothing much...” You replied with a shrug. “Just... trying to get through pre-med, you know? Columbia’s been kicking my ass.”
“Oh wow, that’s so cool.” She beamed, waiting for the cashier to ring up her items. “You’re still the same, Y/N. Even in high school, you were a straight A student. That is so amazing.”
“How about you, Natasha?” You asked her as the cashier began to ring up your items. “What have you been up to?”
“Just... arts, you know?” Natasha shrugged. “Studying has never been my thing, you know? Thank God, it’s the holidays though! I’m so glad I can finally relax and let loose.”
“Any plans for the holidays?” You asked her, curiously. As someone who has never had a proper holiday for yourself, you wondered what other people did during the holidays.
Perhaps, you wished to live vicariously through everyone else’s experiences. The only ever time you had a chance to travel were during the trips back home with your family. Other than that, you were pretty much stuck in Brooklyn.
“I’m heading to The Hamptons tomorrow...” She replied, excitedly. “We’re going to be skiing!”
“The Hamptons?” You asked, your eyes growing wide at her response. “That sounds quite fancy. What? Are you going with your family?”
“Oh no, I’m actually going with my friends. As a matter of fact, you know them too. Steve and Bucky, you remember them. Steven Rogers... as in my best friend? And Bucky, I mean, James Buchanan Barnes... you know him. He used to skip class all the time and get detention. You even had to tutor him for algebra once for extra credit or something, remember?”
Your eyes grew wide as you recalled her two best friends. You were slightly surprised that they had managed to keep in touch with her after all these years. But then again, the three of them had always been close. They were known as the inseparables around school, always hanging out with each other and slacking off in class together.
Often times, you had found yourself being jealous of their friendship. You wished you had that kind of bond with someone. You had always wanted a best friend but all you had was your older brother. You had been so lonely ever since you moved to New York.
For some odd reason, your parents had been against you befriending anyone who was not Tamilian. Apparently some bullshit about how anyone else would have corrupted your innocent mind and derail you from your path to being the perfect daughter you had always been. They had claimed that while they ‘trusted’ their daughter, they did not trust the society in which they had to raise their children. It was all bullshit.
Truth be told, your parents really had ruined your chance to make any friends at all. As much as you let your social anxiety get the worst of you, you had to blame them for the role they had played in your lack of a social life.
“Oh... right.” You reached into your purse to pull out the cash that your mother had given you, handing it over to the cashier and taking back your change.
As you grabbed your bagged groceries, Natasha had paid for her own things before walking over to you. “Hey, are you headed home? Come on, I’ll give you a ride.”
“What?” You looked up at her in surprise. “Oh no, Natasha... it’s fine. I can take the subway back.”
“Hey, it’s okay. I’m heading over to see my parents anyways and they live down the street from yours. I’ll drop you off on my way.” She offered with a smile. “Come on, dude!”
For how long could you keep avoiding the kind gestures from people and push them away? You had known Natasha since you had first arrived in New York and you knew that you could trust her, even if your own parents would be against that. Thanks to her short hair, tattoos and piercings that made her seem like bad news according to their judgemental eyes. But at this point, you could care less about what your mother would think about you accepting a ride from Nat. “Fine...” You gave in, struggling to carry your groceries.
“Here, I got it.” Taking one of the bags from you, she began walking out of the store with you in toe. “So, what are your plans for the holidays, huh?”
“Not much, really...” You replied with a shrug. “Just getting ready for the next semester, I guess.”
Nat stopped in her tracks before turning around to face you, her jaw dropping slightly at your response. “What the fuck, Y/N? You really need to give yourself a break. You need to go and do something fun.”
A part of you knew that she was right about that. But truth be told, you did not know how to have fun. For the longest time, your idea of fun had been burying yourself in school. Studying had been fun to you until it became the thing that you always did. Not to mention your lack of a social life ever since you were a kid. After all, you had never even been to a sleepover. Now a legal adult, you had never been to a party. Never been kissed and never gotten drunk. You lived quite a boring life and you did not know how to fix that. “I don’t know, man... I never really did anything fun during the holidays. I just studied... a lot.”
Letting out a sigh of disbelief, she turned around to walk over to her car. “I’ll tell you what...” She unlocked her car before opening the trunk. “Why don’t you come down to The Hamptons with me?” It had been a casual offer, perhaps even one that she had thought you would refuse in an instant, which you initially did. But Natasha knew you and knew how hard it had been for you to make friends in high school. She was finally making the effort to be your friend by offering to let you join her on her trip; she should have done something like this many years ago. But better late than never, right?
“What?!” You gasped, hearing her offer. If it had been that easy for you to pack up and leave to The Hamptons with a skater girl and two boys, you would have done it in a heartbeat. But you knew your parents and there was no way they would even allow you to go on this trip if you had even bothered to ask them in the first place. “Oh no, I can’t...”
“Come on, Y/N! It’ll be so much fun!” She grinned at you before loading the grocery bags in her trunk. “It’ll be just the four of us. It’s like you’re going to be on a trip with strangers. It’s just four school friends hanging out together for a week, catching up.”
“Oh no, Natasha... I shouldn’t be intruding.” You shook your head as you handed her the last of your bags. A part of you was longing to take her up on her offer, but you knew your parents very well and you worried about what they might think. They would never allow you to go off to all the way to The Hamptons with the kids they would have never approved of you to be friends with. Even if you were a pre-med student at Columbia University with a 4.0 GPA, no achievement would have made you worthy of such a trip when it came to their standards.
“You won’t be intruding at all.”
“Yeah, but...” You shook your head at her. “My parents would never allow it.” This had always been your excuse to turning down every invite to a party or a sleepover during high school. Your parents never allowed you to make friends with anyone, because that was just how it was.
“Well, then... we’ll sneak you out. You can’t let your parents dictate what you do and don’t do anymore. How old are you? Like... twenty? Twenty-one? You need to start making your own decisions at some point...” She was right. She knew exactly what she was talking about. “Y/N, you’re a good kid... you’re a good student, you’re doing good in school and working hard. You’ve got to give yourself a break. But there’s nothing wrong with being a little selfish sometimes.”
You sighed. “I... they won’t... I’ve never done anything rebellious my whole life, Natasha. And I don’t know how to... I can’t risk getting in trouble with my parents.”
“That’s why you have me, babe. I’ll sneak you out and have you back home in one piece. You have nothing to worry about. Just pack up your belongings tonight and meet me outside of my parents’ house at 3 in the morning. We’re driving up to The Hamptons ourselves.” She told you. “You don’t even have to pay for the gas. Just bring yourself enough pocket money to rent some ski gear and spend on booze or whatever... and we can spend the whole week skiing.”
“Natasha...” You bit down on your bottom lip. “I can’t...”
“For old time’s sake...”
“I need to think about it.” You admitted.
“Fine... I’ll wait for you until 3:30. If you don’t show up, you’ll see me drive past yours from your bedroom window.” She told you with a playful eye roll. “It’s your loss, Y/N.”
When Natasha had dropped you home that evening, you found yourself locked up in your bedroom for the remainder of the night. You paced back and forth, staring out your window to see her car parked down the street in front of her parents’ house. You had a few hours to contemplate taking her up on her offer. It was either spending another dreadful holiday drowning in your anatomy textbook or skiing with her and her friends. You finally had a chance at making friends of your own and it looked too good to pass up. But the thought of being caught by your parents terrified you, for the punishment would be a harsh one regardless of your academic achievements that should seem to balance it out.
So you did the best thing you could in your search for clarity and told your brother of this offer right away. While being of the male gender had certainly given him more privilege within the family, he knew that his freedom to do whatever he wanted was not something he could take for granted. He understood that as privileged as he was for the way your parents had been lenient on him, you were held to a higher moral standard than he was. Truth be told, he hated that and when it came to advocating for you and what you wanted, he always took your side when arguing with your parents. He was a true ally and the only real best friend you had so far. You could trust him.
“I’ll sneak you out.” Arjun offered in an instant.
Your jaw dropped as you heard his offer. “What?! Anna... are you insane? Amma and Appa would kill me they found out that I left!”
“Illa di, listen to me for a sec. I’m on your side here. Sometimes, you have to be rebellious and go out and get what you want.” He advised. “You’ve been too much of a goody-two-shoes to be treated like shit. I say you take the chance and get the hell out of here for a week.”
“Easy for you to say...” You mumbled as you rolled your eyes at him. “You don’t even live here anymore. But I do... and I don’t want to deal with all this crap because when I get back from this trip, you’ll be gone back to Harvard and I’m the one who’s stuck here.”
Your brother thought for a moment. “I’ll give them an ultimatum.” He suggested, shrugging his shoulders. “If they give you crap for going on this trip, then I’ll drop out of Harvard and flip burgers for a living. Trust me, Amma wouldn’t want that.”
“Anna... no, seriously... no!” You shook your head. “You’re being so dramatic right now and there’s no need for that. I’m not going.”
“Hey... po, di. If you don’t want to go for yourself, enakkaga po. Do this for me, please, di?” He told you with a pout. “Go out there and make some friends. You deserve it.”
You bit down on your bottom lip before sighing. “I’m terrified... but... I also want to go.”
“Then go. Go to the Hamptons... go make some friends. I don’t want you to end up friendless when I go off, get married and have my own family one day.” He admitted, chuckling softly. “You’ve been alone for so long, di kannamma. Go enjoy yourself while you’re young. You deserve it.”
You nodded as you pulled him into a hug. “You’re too good to me. Thank you, da Anna. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Hugging you back tightly, he sighed in contentment. “Anything for my kannamma.” He laughed as he held you close. The two of you shared a close bond and it was frankly because you were each other’s best friend. He would take a bullet for you in a heartbeat, so it was no surprise that he was willing to face your parents for your sake. “Now go up to your room, pack up your things and wait. I’ll come and get you when it’s time and we can climb out my bedroom window, sariya?”
You laughed softly and nodded, pulling back from the hug. “Sari...”
And with that, you had snuck up to your bedroom and managed to back yourself a suitcase full of your belongings. You were only going to be there for a week so there was not much to pack. But you were also cautious of how much you packed anyways, considering that you would need to launch this suitcase of yours off of the roof before you managed to sneak out your brother’s bedroom window. The last thing you wanted was for your parents to wake up from the commotion and catch you red-handed. You did not need this attempt at going on a holiday trip to come to an end before it had even started.
When the time came, your brother had helped you climb out through his bedroom window and threw your suitcase onto the sidewalk. Once he climbed down the roof, he helped you down and the two of you sprinted down the street towards the Romanoff Residence.
“Nat!” You called out to the redhead as you reached her parents’ house, your brother following after you with your suitcase.
“Y/N, you made it!” Natasha grinned as she ran up to you, tackling you with a triumphant hug.
You were taken aback by her embrace but you returned it anyways, your heart still beating right out of your chest from the adrenaline rush that came with sneaking out of your house and running down the street. “Yeah, I... I did.” You admitted, laughing softly. You were glad that you had not backed out of this ordeal, thanks to your supportive older brother who wanted nothing more than for you to be happy.
Arjun watched as the two of you pulled back from the hug. “Natasha Romanoff.”
“Arjun.” She bowed her head at your brother. “Good to see you. Thanks for bringing her over.”
“Don’t mention it.” He winked at her before turning over to you. “You two should get going.”
You nodded as you pulled your brother into a tight hug. “Thank you... for being the best big brother I could ever ask for.” Your eyes glazed over as you realized how much trouble he was going to be in for the part he played in your disappearance for a week. But you were grateful that he had been there for you. “I love you, da Anna.”
“I love you too, di kannamma.” He hugged you tightly. “Have fun, okay? You deserve it.”
Natasha stood by as she watched the two of you say goodbye to each other. A part of her found it quite warming that the two of you had such a close bond. But unbeknownst to her, she had also admired how genuine and attractive Arjun really was. But that was a story for another time.
Once your brother had returned home, you and Natasha climbed into her car and she began driving towards Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes’ loft apartment. After all, this entire trip had been planned by the formerly chubby-cheeked and crooked-toothed boy whom you used to tutor. Hopefully, he would not mind that his little excursion had been crashed by his high school class’s resident ‘scholar’.
Present Day...
You tossed and turned in bed as you struggled to fall asleep, snuggling up to your pillow a you pulled the duvet over your shivering body. Despite the fact that you had slept in this bed for years, you had a hard time sleeping in it now. It was as though a part of you had forgotten how it felt to be home, which was partly your fault. After all, it had been your choice to leave home after you had graduated from Columbia. Your search for even the slightest of freedom had been satisfied, but coming home had always been a pain in the ass. You could not sleep.
You sat up in your bed as you let out a sigh of exhaustion, leaning your back against the headboard as you looked around your dimly lit childhood bedroom. Letting out a yawn, you reached over to grab your phone from the nightstand to check your notifications, hoping to see some missed call or text message from work so that you could have an excuse to leave the house in the middle of the night, this time through the front door rather than your brother’s bedroom window.
But you had been disappointed to find no messages from the hospital, meaning that you had no choice but to force yourself to go back to bed. Before you could lie back down though, you heard a slight knock on your door. “Kannamma?” Your brother said softly as he knocked. “Thoongittiya, di?”
“No... I can never fucking sleep in this house anymore.” You groaned as you climbed out of bed and made your way over to open the door. “Anna? What the hell are you two doing up at this hour?” You noticed that he was dressed in a pair of slacks and a button down shirt, a half-asleep Natasha standing behind him. “You were on call tonight?”
He nodded. “Yeah, I was... I just got called in. You think you could keep your Anni some company while I’m gone?” He asked you with a chuckle. “She likes you more than me.”
You nodded, giggling slightly as you yawned. “Sure, I guess...” You moved out of the way so that Natasha could enter your room and you let her hug you from behind. “I think she loves me, actually. She loves me more than you.”
“Yeah, keep saying that to yourself.” He mocked you with a playful eye roll before turning over to his future wife. “I’ll see you in the morning, Nat.”
“Drive safe, baby.”
“Bye, da.”You called out to him as he walked away.
Natasha chuckled as she made her way over to your bed and lay down. “I can never get used to this.” She admitted as she climbed under the blanket and stared up at the ceiling for a moment.
You closed the door behind you before walking over to your bed. “You know he doesn’t like working nights. He just has no choice in that matter. He’s trying to get it all sorted out, you know. Hopefully, he can open his own practice at some point.” You admitted. “I on the other hand, I love working nights. I love that I don’t have anyone to go home to, unlike my Anna. Hell, it feels strange not working tonight. I can’t even fucking sleep right now.”
She turned over to face you. “You do work a lot so I guess being single is convenient for you.” She agreed. “But do you ever see yourself... actually having someone to go home to? Getting married and having kids of your own?”
You let out a chuckle before shaking your head. “Did you? Did you ever think you’d be getting married... to anyone, let alone my brother?”
“No, I didn’t... but fate works in weird ways, doesn’t it? It brought you and I together and then... it brought your brother and I together.” Natasha reminded, sighing as she hugged you gently.
“You ever wonder what would have happened if we had never run into each other at the grocery store that day?” You asked her, curiously.
“We wouldn’t be best friends.” She admitted, laughing. “We wouldn’t be family. I think we have Arjun to thank for that night.”
You nodded. “Yeah, I guess... if it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t be best friends.” And you wouldn’t have fallen in love with Bucky Barnes either.
You covered your ears with your hands as Natasha honked one more time, hopefully the last time she would do so within the last ten minutes. The sound of the never-ending honking must had woken up the entire neighborhood by now, but unfortunately, Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes happened to be heavy sleepers.
“Oh for fuck’s sake!” She called out as she rolled down the window. “Steve, Bucky, I swear to fucking God if you don’t get your asses down here in two fucking minutes, I’m leaving without you!” She called out towards the second floor window of the building you had been parked in front of.
Despite the fact that it was way too early in the morning to be causing a scene in the middle of the street, it seemed as though the redhead did not give a shit about any of that. Her friends were both running late and she was certainly not happy about being the only one who had any sense of punctuality between the three of them.
After all, it had been Bucky Barnes’ idea that they drive all the way to The Hamptons at the ass crack of dawn. The least she would have hoped was for the two of them to be ready and waiting for her to arrive. But instead they had both been sleeping on their asses until she pulled up and honked for them to come out. With her lack of sleep causing her to be irritated, she was in no mood to be driving as it was and the boys being late was not helping at all.
It was another few minutes and constant honking before the two boys came running out of their apartment building, their duffel bags and ski gear in hand.
“Jesus Christ, Nat! You probably woke up the entire neighborhood!” Steve Rogers yelled at his friend as he loaded his belongings onto the trunk, followed by Bucky’s.
Bucky Barnes ran his hand through his wet hair that had now frosted up in the cold as he got into the car, his eyebrows furrowing as he noticed the uninvited guest in the backseat. He looked just the same as he did three years ago, the only difference being that he had chopped off his long locks for a shorter hair do. It seemed fitting for the young adult look that he had been trying to pull off lately.
But he still had his high school charm on him, the one that you could not get away from no matter how hard he tried. “Hey... you?!” He looked over at you with a confused expression on his face, noticing that you looked so familiar to him yet he could not place how he had known you. He was just as forgetful as you remembered him to be. “Uh... do I know you from somewhere?”
You raised your eyebrow at him slightly. “You... do???” You swallowed your own drool as you caught yourself staring at him and looked away for a moment, tucking a loose strand of your hair behind your ear as you avoided his eye contact.
“Has your pea brain really forgotten high school that fast, Barnes?” Natasha snickered from the driver’s seat as Steve got in the car, buckling up as he turned around to notice you sitting behind him.
“Y/N Y/L/N?” He gave you a look of surprise, but smiled genuinely happy to see you. “Long time.”
“Hi Steve.” You smiled at him before waving slightly, your eyes darting back to the confused former classmate of yours who had finally managed to recognize you as his former algebra tutor. “I hope you don’t mind me crashing your trip, by the way. Natasha invited me and I couldn’t say no.”
“Y/N?! Oh my God... Scholar Y/N, how could I forget these glasses?” Bucky laughed as he pulled you into a side hug. “It’s been so long, oh my God! How have you been, doll?”
You bit down your bottom lip as you felt yourself blush, slightly taken aback by his rather forward attempt for a reunion hug. “Uh... yeah, I... I’ve been alright.” You did not know what to say as you pushed your glasses up your nose, giggling slightly as you pulled back from him quickly but not as awkwardly as you had feared.
“Jeez, we used to flip a coin to see which one of us gets to sit next to you when we had exams.” Steve recalled with a chuckle as Natasha started the car.
“What? Why?”
“Because whoever won the toss and sat next to you was guaranteed to pass the exam!” Bucky replied, laughing as he shook his head. “You were such a nerd back then, doll.”
“I still am.” You admitted, proudly as you laughed and gave him a playful eye roll. “I take it you’re still skipping class and roaming the town with your camera?” You remembered that Bucky Barnes had a knack for photography, having been involved with the yearbook committee and the school newspaper for multiple years. You had worked closely with him when you had been the editor of the school newspaper during your senior year, so it was not as awkward being in the presence of these three. Thankfully, they were not absolute strangers to you.
“Yeah, I... I’ve been interning with a studio though. Photography is my calling.” He told you as he motioned towards his camera bag next to you. He never left the house without it and he was hoping to document as much of this trip as he possibly could. After all, this was going to be the last trip he was going to take with his friends and neither of them knew that yet.
“So, you still have no plans for going to college then?” You asked him. You remembered that Bucky had initially decided to take a gap year and go traveling after your class had graduated from high school. As Natasha had told you during your drive over to pick up the boys, it turned out that he had not managed to go back to school when he had returned from his trip to Italy.
Bucky bit down on his bottom lip before letting out a sigh. “Not for now...” He told you with a shrug, but it was a partial lie. After all, he had received his acceptance letter for a Journalism and Media Degree in London earlier this month. But he had chosen not to break the news to his friends just yet.
“We’ve actually been saving up our money, Y/N. We’re going to open our own bar in Williamsburg and be business partners, isn’t that right, Buck?” Steve clarified.
He looked up at his best friend with a small smile, but did not nod his head. Unbeknownst to you, the reason behind his silence would eventually cause a drift between all of you by the time this trip came to an end.
Present Day...
When you and Natasha woke up the next morning, the two of you headed out to mail out the wedding invitations that the two of you had finished packing up the night before. Your best friend turned sister-in-law made it her mission to personally deliver Steve Rogers’ invitation to him, just to make sure that he knew that he had no choice but to attend the wedding. With his current financial situation though, the two of you were sure that he would do anything to avoid the wedding. But Nat was not going to have any of it.
You should not have been so surprise to have walked into an empty restaurant, but you could not help but feel slightly bad about how your friend’s business had taken the turn for the worst. You knew that this was not what Steve had signed up for when he had first purchased this restaurant with all of his savings, but he had kept it going for as long as he could.
Natasha blamed his recent increase in alcohol consumption for his failing business, but you knew that there was more to Steve’s pain that he had resorted to drinking as a coping mechanism. Perhaps, this intervention was a much needed one.
“Ladies...” Steve laughed as he walked out of the kitchen with a cold glass of whiskey in his hand. “To what do I owe this pleasure?”
“Steve, it’s 10 am... what the fuck are you doing, getting drunk this early in the morning?! Give me that glass!” Natasha walked up to him and tried to take his glass from him, only to fail miserably.
“I’m a grown ass man, Nat. I can do whatever the fuck I want...” He muttered carelessly before downing his drink and setting down his glass. “Always goes down easy.”
“Steve...” You sighed as you walked up to him, your lips curling into a frown as you pulled him into a hug. “Steve, come on... I know the restaurant is in a lot of debt right now but drinking your ass off is not going to solve that.”
“Don’t tell me what to do, doctor.” He chuckled as he hugged you back. “If I drink myself all the way to cirrhosis, then that’s my fucking choice.”
“I don’t like what I’m hearing, Rogers.” You admitted, shaking your head at his words. “You’re struggling, buddy. Just admit that you need help and we’re more than happy to throw in a little investment, just to get this place back up and running like it did when it first opened. We hate seeing you like this, you know?”
“No...” He shook his head as he sighed. “I can’t do that, Y/N. You guys... have your own lives and your own shit to worry about. Don’t... waste your time and energy being worried about me or my business.”
“But we are worried about you, you asshole.” Natasha admitted, joining in on the hug. “I’m getting married and I hate that my best friend is... fucking miserable. I hate to see you like this. If you won’t even let us pitch in to keep this place going, then at least stop drinking your days away. The last thing I want is for you to leave me for good like he did. I’ve lost one of you already the way that I did... I can’t lose another friend either.”
“Don’t bring him up, please. I don’t want to talk about him.”
You shook your head at Natasha before you sighed, rubbing Steve’s back as you bit back your tears. “Fine, we don’t have to talk about anything... or anyone. But we have a wedding to get ready for. So, can we at least focus on that for the next few weeks?”
“Fine.” Steve admitted, finally forcing himself to smile a genuine smile. “Anything for my two favorite ladies and you becoming family.”
