Summary: it's the day of Valax's first time ever hosting a ball, and Nia is helping Solace pick an outfit to wear to the event.

"So, what are our options" Nia asked as she walked into Solace's guest room.

Today was the day of Valax's first ever time hosting a ball, so he wanted to look as nice as possible.

He currently has some clothes laid out on his bed, more specifically 3 different types of dresses.

"Well, currently there are three options, so..."

Nia sat down on the bed as Solace grabbed a dress from the end of the bed and held it up.

The dress he was holding was a stark contrast to his usual dark attire. It was frost white colour, and it was a tight mermaid dress style with off-shoulder bell sleeves and a sweetheart neckline. It was adorned with small pearls embroidered across it and had an iridescent purple shine, and there was lace that peeked out from underneath.

It was beautiful, but it looked reminiscent of something familiar...

"It's lovely" Nia tilted her head, giving it a long look, "but it kind of reminds me a little of-"

"Your old pink priestess robes? Yeah, I thought of that too..." Solace shrugged as he laid it back down on the bed.

The next dress he picked out was a cotton pink to blazing orange ombré ballgown. With a big poofy train at the back, and puffy sleeves and an illusion neckline, it fell to the floor and was adorned with flower embroidery and sparkles throughout. It was gorgeous, and BIG.

Nia rested her chin on her head, looking at it. She liked it, but there was a problem...

"It would look nice, but..." She hummed as she imagined him in it. Narrowing her eyes as she concentrated.

"Yes?" Solace looked down at the ballgown again.

"What if you bump into someone? Or someone slips on the train?... Or you possibly knock something over?" Nia shrugged, "I don't know if the ball is for such an extravagant piece anyway... You understand what I'm saying?"

Solace sighed. Mentally face palming. FUCK. He didn't think about that. It's a beautiful dress, but it's also a hazard for a small ballroom as Valax's, and he didn't want to cause any accidental problems such as what Nia stated.

With another sigh, he put the dramatic piece back on the bed.

Grabbing the 3rd dress, it was definitely a dress he could be caught in at any function.

It was dark pine-green and teal, with black mesh on top of it. It was a lithe floor length dress that would hang on his shoulders and hips. It had a plunging V-neck, and had small pearls adorned on it, with a matching silk scarf that could be draped over his arms.

While it wasn't as exciting as the last 2 dresses, it looked lovely. Nia could see him holding a goblet as he walked around and conversed at the ball that was about to happen in 2 hours

"I say that's the one! It's perfect. Not too disruptive, not too familiar looking- it's nice!... Though it looks like every other outfit you wear" she frowned a little at that realisation, though she shook it out of her head.

"Well then, I'll go change into it! See you in a bit..." As Solace held the dress, he went towards the windows to close them so he could change in peace.

As he did, the matching scarf fell to the floor. He didn't notice though as he was too busy pushing black curtains across the window.

Nia did notice, and she went over to pick it up. Kneeling to the floor and grabbing it. Though as she did, something caught her eye.

Sparkly dark purple fabric and gold metal chains, a cluster having fallen on the ground, on the left side of the bed that was opposite to where Nia sat. It looked like it fell off.

Curious, she picked it up- revealing a very sensual and risqué dress. Kind of like scraps of beautiful silk were attached together by metal rings and chains. He couldn't imagine what he'd look like in it, mostly because the fabric was clinging together by sheer will and she couldn't picture what it'd look like properly.

"Hey Solace, what about this dress?" Nia asked.

When Solace turned his head and looked at what she was holding, his face began to fill with stars as he looked down.

"O-oh... That... Uhm... Well, you see..." He pushed some of his hair out of his face, "it's a dress I found whilst I was going through WhiteTower, the more "adult side" of WhiteTower, and I thought it was pretty..."

"So why is it on the floor?"

"Because I feel shameful looking at it." Solace sighed, admitting that wasn't hard at all, but to Nia? It was significantly hard.

A frown covered her face, looking at the dress and at Solace again. Sure it was a pretty sexy dress, but everyone at this event was an adult, Valax was centuries old even, he shouldn't feel shameful for wanting to feel tantalising.

Solace awkwardly stood there in silence.

"I think you should at least try it on. You bought it, you should at least see yourself in it" Nia walked over to him and placed the dress over one of his shoulders before backing away.

"You don't even need to show me, just try it on at least before you put on the dress I liked"

She gave a small smile before walking out of the room, leaving Solace to get into his ball outfit.

5 minutes later, and Solace was fine changing.

"Uhm, Nia?" Solace peeked his head out of the crack in the door of his room.

Nia was sitting on a chair outside, reading a book of some kind. She looked up as she heard her name, smiling up at him.

"Hey Solace, I'm guessing you're done getting ready?" She put a bookmark on the page she was reading before closing the book and placing it on the seat behind her, standing up.

"Yeah... So... I need a second opinion..." Solace opened the door, letting Nia see the dress he had on.

It wasn't the one they picked, but the alluring purple dress Nia picked up off the floor.

It hung off his frame beautifully. It was very silky looking, as the fabric was draped over his body teasingly. The fabric was attached by rings that held it together, and it looked breezy. His entire hip and side could be seen, which revealed gold markings on his body that no one knew was there. And with the glittery purple fabric shining, it would bring him lots of attention.

There were metal chains that wrapped around his body, being attached to the metal rings as well. His muscular thighs could be seen clearly, as well as his abs and beautiful soft biceps.

He held a fan in a purple-gloved fan, that he dramatically fanned out and put over his face.

"Oh... Wow... You look so..." Her hands make incomprehensible gestures before they reach her face, "gorgeous!"

Solace blushed even more, his skin turning into a starry sky as he fanned his face.

"Thanks..." He said in a whisper, though he felt a bit better as he lowered the fan and looked at her. To his complete shock.

Nia's eyes were full of tears as she smiled widely.

"You are too beautiful for me, to look at..." She giggled, "you look really lovely, Solace..."

Solace walked over to her, the click of his golden heels on the floor echoed throughout the mostly empty hallway. He went over and held her face, wiping away the tears as his own face filled with them.

"Nia... You're making ME cry n-now..." His voice as he chuckled, his voice trembling.

He felt a bit better now. Maybe because Nia was such a good influence on his self-esteem, but he felt prettier. He wanted to feel pretty today.

He backed up and patted Nia's shoulders.

"Anyway... We should... Probably find something to do whilst we wait for the ball to happen..." Solace suggested, his tears drying up slowly along with Nia's.

"I could tell you about this new book I'm reading! It's all about famous historical poets, and it's very intriguing!" Her tears immediately dissipated as she focused on the book, grabbing it and showing Solace the cover.

His tears dissipated as well, a brighter more charming smile filled his face. He loved anything to do with history, and historical poets? Now that's something he wanted to learn.

He nodded as Nia stated explaining, both of them disappearing into his first room as they spent the remaining waiting time geeking over history together...

"Alright. Coming." I sighed before walking over to him.

I was so confused why he wanted me to speak to someone, we had just returned to WWE so my brain was just unable to comprehend anything.

"Sis, this is Cody. Cody Rhodes" He said

"Hey-" I paused, noticing the visible height differences.

He looked around 6'3" and I was 5'10", on the other hand my brother was like 6'1" or something.

"Holy Shit- your fucking tall-" I chuckled a little

"Uh yeah, Hey." He chuckled

"So.. I'm Kristina, or Kristin." I said trying to clear some of the awkwardness out of the room

"Well nice to meet you Kristin- I'm Cody" He said

"So what brings you to the WWE?" He asked

"Oh, I wrestle. I'm CM Punk's Sister. Who's a little older than Lilith Punk." I said

To get this straight, Me and my older brother CM Punk, have a younger Sister. Named Lilith, we all used to work in AEW until me and CM got fired.

"Oh, Damn. Didn't think you'd actually be a wrestler like your brother" He chuckled

"Yeah, I uh. Just returned recently. After I broke my wrist fighting Nia Jax a year ago." I said

"Oh shit- how are you able to wrestle after that, I mean. I've torn my pec and bicep. But you seem as tough as nails" He said

Cody said his goodbyes to the other wrestlers and then ran around backstage trying to find me.. who was hidden in my locker room

I had my back against the door lightly crying. Until I heard a knock

I opened the door and let him inside my locker room, we talked a little about why I had run off.

i love video games but i'm not great at them. my favorite games of all time are omori, your turn to die, animal crossing new horizons, legend of zelda: breath of the wild (i haven't played totk yet, please no spoilers!!), spiritfarer, hades, good pizza great pizza, undertale, deltarune, pokémon emerald rogue, and story of seasons: pioneers of olive town. i'm looking forward to playing all the story of seasons games in the future!

Notes - I’m not gonna lie, i was actually a bit put off by the fact that this has 40+ chapter. But once i really got into it, i instantly soared past where i had started reading it in 2017. I absolutely love the way they show depression as a gradual thing. It’s not something that always had one big trigger, sometimes its many small things compiling together, or the tentacles, as Craig puts it. i want to say that, as a trans person, i really dont hate the characterization of trans people. It’s very offensive and distasteful, of course, but it reads off to me as if it’s coming from the perspective of somebody who doesn’t understand. And, Ned may NOT have understood to the fullest extent. Thats why i say i like it. Because i do think that matters. i really like the dynamic between noelle and Craig, and i like how nia isn’t end game. I like how we see them as two different girls, which is something Ned has struggled to discern in the past with BMC. I love the way Ned tied up the ending, and it genuinely moved me to tears to read the ending “verbs”. This is such a fucking beautiful novel and Ned Vizzini will be missed dearly

I liked the part with the hearse.

Struggled a bit with this one. There were a few cute or even tender moments, but I couldn't bring myself to care about the romance between Darius (Larenz Tate) and Nina (Nia Long). The way he initially stalked her was more meet-creep than meet-cute, and left a bad taste in my mouth. By about halfway in I was hoping she would just ditch him already.

Nia Long was so pretty and charming. The scenes between her and her friend Josie (Lisa Nicole Carson) were fun to watch, but when the guys were around things got real pretentious. While mostly natural, the dialogue sometimes veered into philosophical, except without actually saying much. I think I just find artistic, spoken-poetry types unrelatable.

Good. It just didn't grab me.
