British Leyland SSV 1, 1972. A safety vehicle based on the MG MGB GT with a significantly reinforced structure. Features included instrumentation that projected two lines onto the windscreen indicating the safe distance to keep from the car in front, a devise that prevented it being driven by someone who was intoxicated and the early use of anti-lock brakes and air-bags. The periscope rear view mirror provided the driver with 120º of rear vision. The car was presented at the 3rd conference of the America’s National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in Washington DC in 1972.
