- okay, okay so. try and have breakfast together as a tradition carried over from the potter household.

- sirius goes to effie & learns how to make some of james’ fav dishes bc that’s the best remedy for when he’s feeling upset.

- their palettes are actually very different and they often have to make different food items for themselves. it’s why cooking together becomes an imp & loved time of their day.

- james is one hearty beefcake!!!! very thick thighs, toned calves. formidable biceps. he doesn’t have like—washboard and or anything but he’s very toned yknwim? a sinful v-line. a bit of a dad bod, vibe actually. has one huge pectoral tattoo.

- his clothes are expensive as shit but very comfortable. almost always a bit tight on him bc hes much broader than the size calls for.

- not a huge fan of formal muggle clothing bc it feels constricting and almost always goes for robes.

- messy clothes gang!!! tie is always skewed, shirt untucked & a bit crinkly. his shoes are scuffed and there’s always a smidge of dust somewhere or the talent.

okay call me crazy and I know the newest chapter of Wind Breaker just released like over an hour ago, but hear me out: I think I know the deity Nii Satoru used to represent Takiishi.

Part 2: Umemiya Hajime and Fudō Myō-ō

So let's talk about it. Spoilers for Chapter 150!

I believe Takiishi is being represented by a Karura (迦楼羅, かるら). Here's my evidence to this theory:

According to my research, karura are said to be a race of mythical fire-breathing bird-men (demigods) originating from Hindu mythology and was later adopted by the Buddhist into their pantheon as a protector deity or in accord. to legends were converted into Buddhism by Buddha and are considered one of the Eight Legions.

While going through my research, I found some interesting connections that may or may not apply to what we know of Takiishi and the imagery of the deity depicted:

Bird-like figure = appearance wise, the deity's depiction looks very similar to that of the karura.

"In Japan, Garuda is an enormous fire-breathing eagle-man with golden feathers and magic gems crowning its head."

"They are humanoid in appearance, with the heads and wings of eagles. They have red skin, and red and gold feathers. Karura are fearsome. They breath fire from their beaks. Fire symbolism = Karura are said to be fire-breathing creatures. In Takiishi's lastname (焚石), it consists of the characters that roughly translates to "burning stone" (焚, taki = to burn; 石, ishi = stone). Also, his hair. (Note: Need I say more?)

The original Hindu deity's name is Garuda (sanskrit: The Devourer). The name comes from the fact that karura are known for feeding on dragons, more specifically naga or malicious serpents who have not been converted by Buddha, due to a fued between Garuda's mother (Skt. Vinata) and her sister, mother to the naga. Relating this to Takiishi's bloodlust and extremely violent tendencies during fights, perhaps Umemiya is the dragon he wants to "devour", 🤔. (Note: @yellow-gardenia-48 made a really interesting point in the replies about Endo's signature animal being a snake.)

Conclusion: While I'm not 100% certain that this deity is the exact one the mangaka used for the panel, I'm 95% sure that it is. If anyone would like to add anything more in terms of connections between Takiishi and Karura, feel free to do so! Or disagree with me, that's also cool too. I definitely would like to see more discussions on the symbolisms and cultural references Nii Satoru uses in the series so if I can be a jumping point to that, I'd be happy to do so.

Strong character opening for the FL

We learn several key things about her within a few minutes, without an awkward info dump:

She's part of a martial sect but is the reclusive poisioner who doesn't fit in

Powerful enough that she's not intimidated by sword wielding martial siblings

Talks to magical creatures

Patient enough to spend multiple years cultivating her potion ingredients

Chaotic neutral - rescued a junior who came to fuck with her shit, instead of letting him die from poison, but in a very wacky way that terrorized him

ok so when I watch a xanxia I often try to place the tone, so I know what to expect 🤔

This is sorta wacky. The question for me is if this is more "Eternal Love of the Dream" & "Ashes to Love"... or "Back to the Brink". There's a level of unserious chaos that feels whimsical and fantastical to me, and I can vibe with that. But "Back to the Brink" crossed a line for me that felt like Disney channel movie, pre-teen level of pratfalls and goofy. That's very subjective and personal taste... It will likely take 3 or 4 episodes to determine if it's "for me"

ML's intro also pleased me. We get rumors on the street and then a mysterious sword carrying man who was reportedly "chased" by sects to a xanxia market area, spilling wine as a tribute to the dead and then calmy strolling off.

He narrates about himself that he was convicted to murdering fellow disciples and expelled from his sect, on the run

Gotta say, these intros are way better than a few I've seen in cdramas where characters explicitly tell each other paragraphs about a character's backstory in a way that feels artificial. People aren't standing and talking woodenly at each other, things are constantly happening on screen.

ML wants to prove his innocence. I bet the sect master did it. It's always the secretly corrupted shifu.

FL found ML passed out on the road after anonymously saving her and has now kidnapped ML into forced treatment as a medicine tester

(I feel like I watched a drama where a ML wanted to keep FL around because they were obsessed w curing them of the same disease their mom died from. But in that one, it was super annoying that ML hid all this info from the FL. Maybe it was an OTT mini drama. I don't recall.)

This is all very straightforward and the FL doesn't hide her intentions at all. Since she's basically a strange hedge witch with an actual cauldron in a forest hut, the eccentric behavior fits

To be honest, I don’t think I have a favourite sea creature. For now, due to my love for the Octa-trio, I have a big soft spot for moral eels and octopuses. A couple of years ago we had a phase during which we read a lot about sharks. The fact that baby sharks are called pups!! I’m still obsessed with this fact.

In general, sea is fascinating and truly beautiful, but it was never really my thing, so I don’t know much about different kinds of creatures… Should definitely work on that 🤔

Omg you’re right, we only posted him once (not counting a chibi drawing + fem!Leona in a big genderswap post). Anon, this ship is so good visually with the size difference and all, and Epel salivating at the thought of Jack’s muscles because he really wants to have muscles himself (in reality he is just attracted to Jack) is such a good idea, and we absolutely see its potential… but unfortunately somehow they don’t click with us just yet. Maybe it’s because it feels too fluffy, with Epel getting in trouble and Jack getting him out of trouble? Maybe we’re missing this spice because we haven’t seen a lot of their interactions. Only time will tell…

Now I absolutely 100% understand why Rowling avoided such a idea given it’s was already a bitch to do magical stuff for kids thanks to parent groups AND all the discourse around that time

But if I was to make gun magic, I would say that early development of it did exist in the ancient past like with China. And the European wizard improved it but in the end it was considered a niche as I check wands been in use in the potter since the BC era. So magical guns were a niche in the old world that got heavily developed in the new world for multiple reasons.

What's the smallest vertebrate animal in Oblivion?

🤔Considering a few animals survived Earth, it's likely a small rodent or frog. Though that's probably not what you were looking for

We don't have a Ton of species developed as we end up focusing on the characters and such, but off the top of my head it'd probably be the sandwyrms on Stuklena Chasha in the Pentaean system. The largest "land" species max out at a foot from nose to tail, though they're usually Much smaller.

I don't have any recent art of them (i think i have a picture of them made in spore but that's way out of date) but they're kind of ugly as hell. All spines and teeth, eyeless nasty little beasts. They have a magic-based venom that is actually capable of killing solraine, but they're like snakes in that you'd have to provoke them to get a bite like that.

There are some much, much larger species in the Silver Sea, which in spite of its name isn't actually water. (Hence "land" earlier.) It's a large patch of extremely fine sand with a very high unstable magic concentration that causes the sand to behave much more like a liquid. There's also a larger, unrelated species of sandwyrm on Zion too, which they brought from their homeworld of Andoran.

If I had to guess where the actual smallest vertebrate would be, it'd likely be Enzorhual. A rogue planet in the cold depths of space, though remarkably warm thanks to a powerful artifact that keeps the planet running without a sun. There's a massive amount of bioluminescent life, and it's generally a lot more fantastical. There's giant Siphonophore like creatures that drift through the air, for example. I can see tiny little glowing mite vertebrates there, perhaps something to explore 🤔

Thinkin' about Douxie's Gen 5 MLP verse ( Since twinnie and a few followers have muses from it.) And I was discussing with @brightdawning about how Douxie and Archie could fit into a world that's so new to magic when they are ALREADY very well versed with it. Until I remembered that perhaps before Twilight Sparkle locked the magic away, perhaps Nari took Douxie and Archie to a safer dimension where their magic would be left untouched? Especially the fact that Arch is a powerful, shapeshifting dragon, so they needed to keep him away from Opaline's line of sight. But when magic had begun to make its return, maybe Douxie and Arch arrives back as well, but I'm sure it's such a huge culture shock due to everything that changed within the last millennia. And since magic is freshly free, perhaps they both continue to do what he does best - to help keep it balanced and safe for both ponies and magical creatures alike. But I bet he does make a quite the name for himself in a smaller niche by bringing his punk band back too 🤔

what prompted rhaenyra to leave home? 🤔 in demon au, i mean. perhaps she felt that she wasn’t safe in her home despite the magic it has to keep unimaginable evils beyond. one night, rhaenyra woke up to the sight of a demon staring at her through the window.

I love that idea! He doesn't have to be amazing at everything 😄 I can see him getting annoyed with himself for not immediately getting on top of the game, he's so used to always excelling at everything. But he's impressed with Rhaenyra. "Nicely done, princess."

She sees somehow a creature got past the protective spell over the house and doesn't feel safe anymore. It's only a matter of time before they get to her.

I have been workng here and there on a map for my world! Here is the current progress - still have lots of trees and mountains to draw, and maybe sneak in some more town names🤔 Here is a little bit behind some of the big names //

Saturia - The central kingdom (obviously). The center of trade, commerce, with the largest and most renown military forces in Tamora.

King's Pass - Straight from the ocean, a pass that all access to trade at its shores and ports.

Thornedale - A rural village connected just outside of Saturia in control of and providing some of the kingdom its crops.

Lokendale - A more sophisticated town with tightly knit architecture rather than vast farmland of its neighboring village.

Black Crystal Lake - A mysterious lake that the people in Thornedale and Lokendale often use as a meet-in-the-middle area of trade and travel. However, there is talk of a magical item deep within its waters that many have dove in hopes of retrieving. But none have ever surfaced, which makes the people quite cautious even rowing across it in broad daylight.

Halfmoon Isles - It is said that this dense forest is home to dangerous creatures. Rumors of other humanoid beings inhabiting the Isles are whispered of around the nearby lands.

Dureheim - A land of fierce northern warriors, home of arguably the most powerful armed forces. A powerful witch is said to live there, ruling over the cold mountains.

Rotwark - This forest acts as almost a barrier between Saturia and the snowy mountains of Dureheim. Some say it is home to a powerful enchantress, others say they have encountered strange creatures crossing the forest in the night. The rest will deny there is any mysterious life there, but behind a superstitious conscience.

Ginsoth - The most popular seaside town in Tamora where many travelers sail into, trade, stay and drink at the infamous Port's Inn, and be merry.

Dorincad - Mountains. All but mountains and countless caves that some have said connect in an interesting way - if not all of them. It must be home to some dangerous and malevolent creatures, for that and the Dorcadian deadlands reek of death and malice.

Kloskenfell - Oddly enough for being right below Dorincad, it is a famous hunting ground that many travel across King's Pass for. It is rich in plant and animal life. And perhaps some other life not yet discovered.

Rhundurk - Far north west lies this island. No one speaks of it, those who have traveled there have recorded nothing significant about it, other than the air about it feels heavy and its aura slightly... off. So it is generally left alone.

Heya, I was wondering if there are any magic animal species that you've made up? 🤔 The magic animal reserve is so cool to me lmao

Hihi mysterious anon! Yeah, the magical animal reserve is super cool!

Excuse the sappy sentimentalist in me, but I actually took a lot of my creature ideas directly from sketchbooks I had when I was younger. Lemme introduce you to all of them.

I didn't make unicorns up, but I want unicorns bc they're cool. It think all your basic fantasy creatures exist in this universe. Bc I made it. And I can do whatever I want.

The most important thing in the reserve (and the main reason it's there) are the mas, which are what the magic community calls man-made animals. Mas were sort of a 'trend' a decade back or so. People realized they could create these living creatures out of scraps from around their houses and everyone was making them. For example, VOID's cat is a ma! The problem was: these scrap-part animals couldn't survive in any of the environments that animals similar to them could. To help these animals, Widowarton (the main site of the birth of these creations since it was popular among young adults) opened a reserve to try and help these animals live. Over the years they've also opened the reserve to other animals that needed to be preserved.

The rest of the creatures, though, are filled with 10-year-old creativity.

The cycloctopus- Pretty simple. One-eyed octopus. Idk what that thing is next to it. Don't ask.

Rolypine- This is sort of like a porcupine except it can roll up into a ball and roll around. They don't have needles, but spikes on their backs.

Dusties- Very little creatures (some call them bugs) that are usually found around old, dustly places. They don't usually cause problems, but it gets annoying when you find ten of them in a corner of your house. They're very soft, but emit poisonous stenches when they feel threatened.

Satan's Pig- This thing is just goofy. It's a little levitating guy with horns. They like pies.

Pixies- Now, I didn't make pixes up, but I found this little 'interpretation' of them that I drew in one of my books and I just fell in love with their designs. These little troublemakers are about the height of a baby. They have advanced enough brains that they have their own language, and they can learn human languages too. Usually, you wouldn't find them on animal reserves. They live in forests, on mountains, on beaches, in caves, etc. (it depends on the type of pixie). The few that are in the animal reserve were taken in by Widowarton staff because they'd somehow lost their home and the reserve is very diverse in habitats, so they easily found a suitable place to settle down. As a plus, the pixies in the reserve know more about human life and culture than any pixie ever has (and the Widowarton students and staff have learned a lot about Pixie cultures!).

So there you have it! I hope you enjoyed the strange little creatures that you can find in the Widowarton Animal Reserve! Poppy is studying magical marine biology, so she spends a lot of her time at the reserve! Perhaps you'll hear about even more creatures from her in the future...
