i was looking for the one Klaus Drucker quote and found someone pointing out that St. Grobian says "A whole lot of inconceivable shit happens on this hell of an earth, Andreas"
which uh. reminiscent of "this bitch of an earth"—> WAS this line potentially influenced by tumblr (...or similar)?!
anyway I think possibly St. Grobian would do well on tumblr...
#i don't think Andreas would actually *appreciate* it if he (Grobian) did. but#pentiment tag#this bitch of an earth

Hello friends and please behold my own personal masterpiece, an as-comprehensive-as-I-could-make-it "Which character are you?" quiz for Pentiment with thirty-six different possible results.
Please be warned that there are spoilers for the game within, in both the structure of the quiz and some of the descriptions in the results! That said, I have poured a lot into this and I am so curious to see what results people get, so I would love if folks gave it a look.
#started this uhhh. four months ago#a significant amount of research and having my friends playtest it later though i think it is finally ready to be released#thanks to scribe and also everyone in my little server for letting me bounce ideas off you all. i have really enjoyed making this quiz#pentiment tag

One thing I love about pentiment is that if you take a look at global achievements statistics on steam a high number of players has completed the first case AND discovered the secret entrance to the library which means they learned about sister matilda's secret (if they also choose to speak to the mother superior after that but still). And yet the achievement for exposing sister matilda as the culprit has one of the lowest percentages and this means that people learned about that fucking rapist piece of shit and went "sister matilda you did absolutely nothing wrong beloved <3 have fun standing next to a bloodstained shovel with your very strong motive i won't say a thing" and they in fact did not <3

Okay but I feel like by Renaissance standards he is much more of a dropout
Even though Andreas has a Master's degree, the Renaissance-era Master's degree was largely a continuation of the same trivium/quadrivum liberal arts studies that got you a Bachelor's degree (in universities that even offered a Bachelor's -- they didn't always, though I believe most German universities did). It's not like the system of today where Master's and Doctoral students are likely to have majored in something similar in undergrad -- until the Doctoral level, everyone was studying the same thing. In order to even begin in one of the areas of Doctoral study, you had to already have your Master's.
So while Andreas technically got a degree, it's a degree that largely would have allowed him to teach entry-level university students, or at a local Latin school. As far as his actual career goals (whether you choose Law, Theology, or Medicine), it's completely useless, and amounts to a lot of wasted time/money. Depending on when he dropped out, he might only have gotten a year or two of instruction in whatever he intended to study -- and after around six years of studying just to get to that point, too.
It's not a 1:1 but it almost feels a bit like someone doing fine in their gen eds and then completely burning out when they hit the bulk of their more relevant upper division coursework or around the time they were supposed to declare a major* than it does a modern grad student Mastering out of their PhD program, which I think adds a lot to Andreas being so worried about burning out as an artist, too.
*extremely US-centric metaphor here but it's the modern university system I'm most familiar with, there might be others that fit better
I love how everyone’s like “Andreas is a university dropout” but he has a masters degree
#i'd apologize for infodumping on your joke post but i feel like anyone who enjoyed pentiment is probably interested in history#and i study the history of science so the structure/nature of historical universities is something particularly of interest to me#i'm not a wholly unbiased source though i'm also a previous several-time dropout who emphasizes w/ andreas on that front haha#pentiment tag

deep in my heart i know i wasnt meant to be a girl at school. i was meant to be a balding, very rotund Franciscan friar who worked illustrating manuscripts in the scriptorium.

It's so funny in Pentiment when someone says "God bless you 😔🙏" and they actually mean "Get the fuck out of here I hate to look at your fucking face"
