The final part of the request made by @craftygoateeprincess oml this is some shameless self indulgent fluff right here. Hope you like!

He sits placidly in the lotus pose. Even in the gloom of her darkening living room, every detail is as clear and bright and new to her as the first time she saw it. Her eyes start from his boots and travel upward.

The tips of his boots are scuffed and nestled in the silk of his pantaloons atop his knees, the orange puffs she knows are there are not visible with his feet in this position. Her gaze travels to his gloved hands, which are resting palm up just next to each boot. His fingers are curled gently, the pointer fingers just touching the silken tips of his thumbs.

His head is facing directly forward, tho his eyes are closed. His face is smooth and peaceful. His body isn’t moving at all. Quite noticeable in this quiet place. No human twitching. No breathing. Just a marble statue posing to look like a clown.

Ellie cannot believe he has consented to this. To sit still and calm and allow her to touch him like this. The clock ticking on her wall sounds like tiny explosions, each click reverberating around her living room, bouncing off of the silvery being before her.

She drops to her knees, directly before him. He is so tall that, even on her knees, she still has to crane her neck to gaze up at his face. She focuses on his long dark lashes, fanned out over the tops of his cheeks like 2 tiny palm leaves.

As she reaches towards him her breath catches. She feels like a worm daring to touch some keen and deadly predator. She supposes that’s just what she is. Oh! But what a beautiful predator! And such a foolish worm. Her hand falters and drops. Her head drops, her confidence wilting.

“Do not be afraid, Ellie.” The rumble of his voice makes every hair upon her body stand on end. “There is much to fear. But not me. Never me.”

She looks up to his face. Meeting his brilliant blue eyes. Basks in the bottomless glow before she watches the pale lids glide down once again to close them. Then reaches forward again. And falters again.

But this time, a gloved hand snaps forward, the long fingers wrapping around her wrist, soft yet vice like. She doesn’t struggle, but pulls against him softly as he mercilessly places her open, trembling hand upon his chest, as if the silk here might burn her skin. They sit like this for some time. The clown holding her hand firm and the girl slowly calming, the quaking in her hands slowly subsiding.

After he has decided that she’ll not pull away, he releases her wrist and returns his hand to it’s original pose, his face still relaxed and his eyes still closed.

His flesh, under the suit, feels cool and iron like, the lean muscle and sinew contrasting with the smooth thick silk of his doublet. She runs her finger tips up and down, pressing in to feel the ribs, her thumb brushing one of the orange puffs. Her throat feels so dry that she coughs. He doesn’t react. Gingerly, she lifts the other hand, which had been sitting numbly in her lap, to join it’s sister in exploring his chest.

Her heart thunders so loudly that she can no longer hear the ticking of her clock. The air in her living room suddenly feels icy, and her skin prickles with gooseflesh. She doesn’t realize her lower lip is quivering. She doesn’t realize her eyes are tearing until a falsely warm drop slides down her cheek.

The clown's nostrils flare and she feels his chest expand rapidly. Once. Twice. He’s scenting her.

“Not fear. But so similar.” His words confirm her thoughts.

“I’m nervous, Penny.” Her voice cracks from dryness.

“Why?” His voice is a comfortable rumble.

“Because…… you’re REAL. All this time. All these years. I KNEW but I somehow still didn’t believe. But here you are. With me.” This confession spurs a flash of bravery as her hands leave his chest, her finger tips trailing down the soft silk of his arms. She feels the hot sting of more tears upon her cheeks as she continues.

“Don’t you understand? When I was a little girl, I believed in magic. I believed angels were real. I believed that my will alone could make things change. I even believed I could fly! But then life happened. Darkness and pain. Lies and deceit. Survival. And I lost that belief. I grew up. Oh, don’t you see?? If you’re REAL……… then that means that MAGIC is real.”

Her heart thunders on as Pennywise responds to her words, and her tailing finger tips, only by slowly raising his forearms, spreading his long fingers, his palms facing her. She gulps down anxious bile and places her palms against his. And they sit like this. Very still. The girl breathing shallowly. The eldritch clown not breathing at all. Touching palms. And Ellie’s knees press against his shins as she leans forward, sliding her fingers down between his. He responds in kind, entwining his fingers with her own.

Only the sore cramping in her cheeks tells Ellie that her face is creased in an enormous smile. She’s holding hands with her sewer angel. And she’s crying.

As her gaze settles upon his face, she feels her breath catch. His eyes are no longer closed. His expression is solemn and watchful. His periwinkle blue eyes are……. Almost soulful…….. As he watches her.

It is now that he moves, still very slowly, unwrapping the fingers of one hand from hers and reaching for her face. Time itself seems to freeze as Ellie feels his palm cup her chin. Every nerve ending in her skin seems to take on its own static life as she feels the silk of his glove brush along her jaw bone. As his finger tips stretch along one cheek and his thumb along the other.

“I can see your thoughts, Ellie. They are disjointed and strange. A dream. I, myself, enjoy dreams.” For a moment, his gaze is vacant. Looking thru her, into another time. Another reality. “You will stay, won’t you Ellie? You will stay in my Derry?” His gaze bores into her own.

She simply cannot speak as her emotions twirl and clench at her heart. His wide eyed gaze is childlike and lonely.

“Stay?” It is not a command, but a supplication. “I have existed longer than your mind could ever comprehend. I am not human. I kill and feast and dance. I am the Eater of Worlds little Ellie. I’ve giggled at sobbing mothers while slurping the marrow from the bones of their tender babies. I have watched races die and new races emerge from their dusty graves. I have watched, in idle boredom, as stars sputtered their death song.” The blue of his irises bursts into burning gold as he speaks. Saliva dribbles from his plump lips as the tiniest snippets of his memories are laid bare before her.

A tingling sensation flutters within the contact of his hand with her skin. Her vision disjoints. She gazes upon Pennywise before her. Yet, when her eyes close, she can see flashes of these things he speaks of. Only for these images to fade as she opens her eyes again.

It is as if she’s existing in 2 places at once. The reality of this beautiful being before her, in the fading light of her living room. And the shadowy realm of the eternal dreams of his long rests whenever her lids close. But she is not afraid. He continues.

“I have seen many things, Ellie. Felt many sensations. But I have never felt this. I have never felt this desire for my presence. And it is very pleasant. I do not wish for this sensation to cease. Stay? Stay with me?” He breaks the contact with her by removing his hand from her chin and folding it, with the other hand, in his lap. And watches her expectantly.

She realizes she is leaning forward so far that she’s nearly losing balance. As if her body has begun to gravitate towards his. She feels empty somehow without those visions of his dreams that she’d seen as he’d touched her. The dawning realization that he had CHOSEN to share those images with her leaves her breathless, the tears now flowing freely now.

“Pennywise,” her voice is unsteady as she speaks. “I’d rather die than leave this place. I have nothing left outside of this place. Outside of you. You’ve saved my life literally every time I’ve seen you. That’s more than any person has ever cared to do. I don’t care about what you’ve done. I don’t CARE. I LOVE you. I always have. I always will.” The desperate need to express this to him overrides her nervousness.

He tilts his head at her, the gold in his eyes returning to their gentle blue.

“I do not know that I can love, child. The emotion is a meaningless concept to me. Or at least, it always was….” His sentence is cut off as, with the most sudden impulse she’s ever had, she leans forward, extending as far up as she can on her knees, to kiss him.

He stiffens and she feels his large hands grip her waist as her arms snake around his neck. The material of his neck ruff pricks and tickles her skin. His lips do not respond as she presses her own to them, but they are soft and compliant. He allows this action although it is obvious that he’s unsure of what he should be doing in response. She feels the nervousness overwhelm her as she goes to pull away.

Then, she feels his palm on the back of her head now, as he applies gentle pressure to keep her in place. And slowly, with great care, as if she were made of the most delicate material, he returns her kiss. It is sloppy and wet and inexperienced and wonderful. And when he finally pulls away, she can feel her tears mixing with the saliva upon her own chin.

“Ellie……. Stay?” Again the question.

“Yes. I will stay.”

So I wrote a Pennywise x female OC fanfic. Took me about a year to write and it’ll be 175000 when it’s all uploaded:

After It leaves her village and they have several seemingly chance encounters, Ellie finally decides to track It down, leading her to Derry, Maine. Little does she know, she came to town just as Pennywise was beckoning the losers home or just how happy It is to see her.

What will she do when she realises that one of Its targets is her best friend from work, Bill Denbrough. Choosing between the one you love and your closet friend isn't easy, especially when one of them could end up dead.

Halloween scare reddie x daughter

summary: can you do a reddie x daughter, halloween w the losers edition?

A/N: I’m sorry it’s so short, I hope you still like it though! 

Ellie bit from her candy covered apple, hurrying to wipe away a piece of chocolate that broke off from the rest of the snack and onto her costume, hoping her dad hadn’t caught on. A quick peek up proved that he hadn’t, to busy gripping her hand so tightly her skin turned white around the pressure. Her pops, on her other side, was holding onto her shoulder, talking with uncle Stan, ushering her closer any time Ellie slightly stayed from his side.

At only six years old, Ellie had figured out that her parents and all her favorite aunts and uncles disliked Halloween immensely. The previous years, they had opted to watch scary movies, all age appropriate until her dad, Eddie, fell asleep and uncle Bill and her pops would sneakily switch it to a scarier film.

They’d never gone out to go trick or treating before, but up until this year, Ellie had never asked for it either. And why would she? Their cabinets would always be stocked full with candy and aunt Bev and all the other losers would bring small, useless gift to share around.

Inside the house was warm and cozy, and the scary boys from across the street always yelled on Halloween about the ghosts that were haunting around the neighborhood waiting to feist on little girls as to scare her. When that happened, Ellie liked to snuggle with her dads on the couch, pretending not to be scared but being secured with the knowledge that her dad and pops would check on her throughout the night, to ensure she wasn’t being plagued by nightmares.

Since starting middle school though, and meeting new kids her own age, Ellie decided that she too wanted to join in on the fun of dressing up and going trick or treating. It had taken some convincing on her fathers part, where even uncle Bill and uncle Mike had to plead her case, but eventually Eddie and Richie granted her request. On the one condition that she would stay near them and the other losers at all times, and that she would never run of to go somewhere she hadn’t approved with her dads first.

Unbeknownst to her, both Eddie and Richie were panicking at the mere idea of seeing a teenage brat clothed in a clown costume, scarring them and their little girl. The memories of Pennywise, three years ago as of late, are still fresh in their minds and they would do anything to stop Ellie from forgoing the same things. Of course, Bev argued, Pennywise is long dead, and they can’t keep her away from Halloween for the rest of their lives. They both know how much restricting something backfires in reality.

Eddie will never again forget all the hustling he and Richie did to sneak out at night and meet up in the clubhouse, without his mom ever finding out. And Ellie is such an inventive little girl, given a little time surely she too would be capable of doing that.

So, albeit a bit reluctant, they asked Bev to design her own view on a little red riding hood costume, Ellie’s favorite fairy tale, and surprise her by hiding the dress away in her closet until Ellie noticed it herself. The red cape was made of thick material, at Eddie’s request, so that throughout the night Ellie wouldn’t get cold.

She was ecstatic, and both Eddie and Richie knew they would never be able to deny her going to Halloween the next year, or the year after that. The losers all agreed to joining them too, as extra eyes on the lookout of something bad happening, but also as the aunt and uncles eager to babysit their niece for the night.

So far, the evening had been peaceful, and mostly quiet. Trick or treating wasn’t something most kids were still interested in apparently, as there were almost no people out except for them. Every house Ellie rang the door bell too was opened by a friendly neighbor, who Eddie and Richie recognized, and gave Ellie enough candy to last at least a month. Still, the fear bubbling right under the skin of the loser wasn’t deterred, and their imagination ran wild in the dark. They saw eyes that couldn’t have possibly been there, and at one point Richie could swear he heard Pennywise laugh.

Because of that, Eddie ushed Ellie to start walking faster, pulling on her small hand and filling her head with images of hot chocolate with marshmallows Eddie promised to make her once they arrived home, in the hope that it would urge Ellie to get home faster too.

In a way she listened. She was brighter than all of the losers at her age combined, with a knack of understanding people’s emotions around her. Her family didn’t like being on the street, and she didn’t like them being so sad, so she hurried too.

Despite her cleverness, she was also a six year old, full of wonder and curiosity at the world around her. As they neared Richie and Eddie’s home, and saw they had to pass the haunted maze orchestrated by a few kids, Richie knows his brave daughter enough to anticipate her setting her heart to going in. Not a second after this thought crosses his mind, Ellie pipes up.

The maze looks scary, a variety of unknown elements, each on scarier than the last one. Ellie puffs her chest full with fake confidence and tugs on Richie’s hand, ready to impress with her bravery. ‘I wanna go in. I’m not scared at all.’ 

Eddie and Richie share a worried glance, hearing the losers come to a stop behind them too. ‘I don’t know sweetheart,’ Eddie tries gently, bending down to her eye level. Richie busies himself with striking out some fabric wrinkles of her cape.

‘Please dad? I won’t get scream I pinky promise.’ She blinks up at him with almost the exactly same doe eyes as Richie accuses Eddie of having, so brave and ready to defy the world and it’s horror. Eddie and Richie can’t let their own fear get in the way of Ellie’s discovery of the world. With just one look shared, Eddie can tell he and Richie feel the same way. At the very least it’s not a haunted house they’re about to enter.

‘Okay,’ Richie relents, ‘but just this one thing and then we’re going home.’ He pulls the cape in front of her eyes and she giggles, so amused with everything her father does.

‘Yes yes yes’, Ellie cheers, shaking her hand loose and running up to Bev. ‘Come on, come on. Hurry up.’ She jumps up and down, still so full of live as if it isn’t a half hour past her bedtime.

‘Ellie, wait up. Don’t go anywhere without holding either of our hands.’

‘Well then hurry up Pops, you’re going too slow.’  

Richie looks affronted, mouth agape and spluttering, confused that his daughter was so thrilled she was willing to leave the two of them behind. Eddie and the rest of the losers laugh uncontrollably, and so does Ellie, though Eddie is pretty sure she has no idea what they’re laughing at.

‘She got that sassiness from you. Revel in it.’

In a few years from now, when she older and wise enough to understand just how serious and dangerous their situation was, she’ll be told the story. The story of how her fathers survived in the face of such evil it altered their innocence, and the people they were.

After she won’t ask for her dads to spend Halloween with her, she’ll never force them to endure another fright night ever again. She will in lieu stay with them, insisting that they watch a comedy instead of a horror movie to fight society’s self-imposed rules, winking at her father as she says it.

She’ll cook dinner and play a game of cards with the whole family composed of her parents and the losers, and hug her dad and father fiercely, a different method as a substitute of articulating how proud she is of them. But those years are still far ahead of them, and right now, the two dads are content to walk hand in hand with their little girl.

Movie Review: Deadpool 2 (Spoilers)

Spoiler Warning: I am posting this review the weekend after the movie is released in the U.K. So if you haven’t yet seen the movie don’t read on.

General Reaction:

Pop culture references, or "Meta-Referencing" as it's called in some circles, has become such à staple in both movies and television that it is hard to know who originated it. But in terms of who owns it, that largely is Fox as their animated TV shows, such as Family Guy and American Dad, are built around it. However, Deadpool as a character is a meta-referencing construct. Spouting pop culture satire is what he has been known for since his creation, being the "Merc with the Mouth" and fans may worry that if he didn't have that, would he be a quality character.

Well if Deadpool 2 is anything to go by, I'd say that's a yes. Yes there are still meta-references spread throughout this movie, but the movie doesn't rely on them and instead becomes a fully-rounded comic-book action movie. In my opinion more so than the first Deadpool movie and even Avengers: Infinity War in terms of story.

Yes the plot is pretty much ripping off Terminator but it does Terminator how you would expect Deadpool to do Terminator. Not only does it satirically play homage to that movie but also the amount of pot shots it takes both at the MCU and DCEU is fantastic.

My two critiques with the meta-referencing in this movie is 1) There is a joke made about child molesting early on in this movie that hinders on that line of very poor taste and 2) They missed some very obvious chances to make fun of some of the movie's cast that they had no reason to miss. When your main character wears a mask covering his mouth, then the writers and director have no excuses when watching this movie in post and saying "Hey we missed an obvious Billy Skarsgård as Pennywise joke and a joke about Orange is the New Black, Black Panther and Wonder Woman, no worries we can have Ryan Reynolds dub over" but alas there is nothing.

As a fully rounded movie however, there is one thing I never expected to see in a Deadpool movie and that is a genuinely emotional scene, in this case Vanessa's death, yes the first movie had Wade discovering he had cancer, but with this scene there were one or two moments I felt would be used to turn the scene satirical, both with the microwave pinging and Wade's emotional reaction but surprisingly they just kept to the reaction...it was somewhat watered down at the end when Wade went back in time and saved her but I'll get into that when I talk about Vanessa further down.

Cast:

On the subject of characters, much like the first movie this cast proves to be a great support in a movie that is solely the Ryan Reynolds/Deadpool show, unlike the first movie though this cast do just seem to be supporting players.

Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool just as Hugh Jackman was born to play Wolverine and Krysten Ritter was born to play Jessica Jones. What he does with this character is nothing short of magic. I cannot describe just how much I love this actor in this role, this is coming from a guy who has never been a Ryan Reynolds fan...at all.

I love the fact they finally embraced Pansexual Deadpool as he was clearly in a committed relationship with Vanessa but he did have some flirtatious banter with Colossus and even Cable, I mean he used his crotch in Cable’s face as an offensive attack.

Reynolds’ physical comedy is upped in this movie, not only does he have that brilliant crouched over through the legs on a moving car bit that I found quite funny but also the that prison break scene when Wade falls from the walkway smack onto a table with his body effectively bent over was really gross and really cool. I haven’t seen physical comedy this funny since Jim Carrey in the 90s; think Ace Ventura or The Mask, even The Grinch, that is what I was reminded of watching Ryan Reynolds in this movie.

As I said, everyone else was effectively a supporting player but the next two with the biggest roles were Josh Brolin as Cable and Julian Dennison as Russell Collins aka Firefist. What is interesting about both these characters is I have only ever seen them in the 90s X-Men animated series. Cable was a recurring player in all four seasons while Russell was named Rusty and only appeared in one episode during Season 3.

Josh Brolin as Cable was surprisingly very good and the fact he is still appearing as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War was not a distraction because both characters are very different and with the CGI on Brolin for Thanos, there is a definite distinction between the two.

They definitely didn’t spend enough time establishing Cable as a character in his own right, outside of the fact his wife and daughter Hope were killed by an adult Russell which is why he traveled back in time there was no real character development. There was a minor scene when Cable is looking in the mirror at his body and it does seem he’s pained over the fact the techno-organic virus that is never mentioned is trying to take over his body but other than that there is really nothing defining other than the fact he was a formidable threat.

The fact he chose to stay at the end of the movie wasn’t exactly a shocker because Deadpool 2 was a back-door pilot in setting up X-Force, even though he saw that his family were alive because his daughter Hope’s teddy bear that he carries with him which was burned but then looked like new when they fixed the timeline which was a stereotypical time-travel trope but a good one, he decides to stick around for no real reason. When Wade says a line earlier in the movie saying “That’s just bad writing” I was thinking Cable’s ending was more sloppy.

As for Russell Collins aka Firefist, I really didn’t get on board with this character. Yes he was the troubled youth that had trauma in his past and being a Mutant in this universe is never good for anyone of any age, but he was just angry. Yes he had one or two funny lines but most of the time his motivation as a character did not seem genuine. In fact, Russell here reminded me of Jamie Foxx as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a character needing to be needed.

Whereas Domino I felt I did not get enough of, genuinely mostly everything we have seen of the character in this movie was in the trailers. She had one or two more good lines particularly with the truck chase but outside of that I was left underwhelmed as a fan of Domino’s because I wanted her to be a scene-stealer similar to Black Widow, Deadpool even calls her “Black Black Widow”.

Colossus again proves to be quite a comedic and competent character despite his earlier appearances in the original X-Men trilogy. The only issue is, we never see him outside of being metallic and yet again Deadpool makes the joke about the studio not being able to afford more X-Men than Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

Although there is a fantastic cameo from the X-Men: Apocalypse X-Men team while Deadpool is making this budget speech as the shot cuts to a profile shot of Wade showing a classroom with that team played by those actors in. In the room there is Beast, Quicksilver, Nightcrawler, Storm, Cyclops and bald Professor X all of whom were played by the same actors who portrayed them in X-Men: Apocalypse. It was interesting to see that neither Sophie Turner nor Jennifer Lawrence made an appearance as Jean Grey and Mystique respectively but literally the show was a blink and you will miss it type of shot.

Circling back to Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and I’m going to call her Ellie because it’s easier and that’s her civilian name, again like Domino most of what we’ve seen from her we saw in the trailers but what was confirmed in this movie was her LGBT status.

Now it is not confirmed if she is bisexual or a lesbian but she is in a relationship with Yukio, who I think is supposed to be Surge from the comics but her name is Noriko not Yukio and Yukio is in fact from The Wolverine portrayed by Rila Fukishima in which case I am frustrated with this character because I loved what Rila did with it. Regardless, I applaud this movie because I have recently written up a Research Project for my university course about the lack of LGBT representation in Marvel and this movie gave me hope that maybe they are turning a corner, both with the teenage lesbian lovers and Deadpool’s pansexuality.

I did have the opportunity to meet Brianna Hildebrand at Comic-Con in March but opted out in favour of Yondu but I continue to be happy with her role in these movies.

Then X-Force as a team, the biggest tease I have seen for quite some time, I haven’t seen such a tease lacking followup since The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the promise of the Sinister Six. Almost every trailer in this movie promoted the X-Force team starting in this movie but what the trailers failed to say was that they’d be seen for a grand total of five minutes and then literally be killed off save for Deadpool and Domino.

When you have the likes of Terry Crewes and Bill Skarsgård in the movie, particularly with Billy coming off of such a success with It, yet barely have them speak and don’t really have any screen-time or development before killing them off just to say “We’ve had X-Force” it’s a waste. I mean I get only having Lewis Tan for a glorified cameo as he is more of a stuntman and he was playing a character that would have been all stunts mainly but again it was such a wasted opportunity.

Although the one thing the team did right was give us a bigger shock cameo than Matt Damon in Thor: Ragnarok and I am talking Brad Pitt as Vanisher. Now for most of the time Vanisher was invisible however when he fell down onto the power-lines and got electrocuted to reveal himself as Brad Pitt, the audience I saw this movie gave the biggest reaction all movie. It was such a surprise and such a non-commitment type of role that Pitt didn’t have to do it but either did 20th Century Fox a favour or Ryan Reynolds a favour, either way it actually made me respect him more.

Outside of that brief cameo, the biggest shock for me was the reveal of Juggernaut. I was actually very surprised to see him in this movie. When they “foreshadowed” the character, I genuinely did not know who it was going to be but the fact it was Juggernaut and looking more like Juggernaut than Vinnie Jones did I was loving it. Although I wasn’t so keen on the fact that Ryan Reynolds provided the voice, again Vinnie Jones was great vocally and physically in the role it was just how they styled him I had a problem with. Also the fact he was defeated by essentially having an electric enema was a little bit in poor taste, again there’s a line and Deadpool both as a character and a franchise dance very finely on it.

Then as for Vanessa, I really like Morena Baccarin as an actress but currently I am not entirely sure she knows what role she wants to commit to. Yes she is a mainstay on Gotham and has been fantastic on that all season and it is clear she was not in the first few episodes because of filming this, but then there is the fact she is back voicing Gideon on The Flash which is a minor voice-over role and then there was this but it is such a watered down version of the character from the comics to the point where she was never revealed as a mutant or had her appearance from the comics. Although interestingly enough the character did first appear in the comics as Domino before revealing herself properly.

The end-credits scene which saw Ellie fix Cable’s time-travelling device and stupidly giving it to Deadpool allowed him to go back and save Vanessa, meaning she’s not dead, which if you follow time-travel lore means the events of this movie should not have happened but even so I digress.

Deadpool’s Future:

My final thoughts are on the future of Deadpool in terms of movies because of course there is a pending merger that could threaten that.

I do think that when you consider the fact Fox is in the midst of having it’s movie and television properties going over to Disney, one has to consider if Deadpool and the X-Men have a future. Yes Kevin Feige is going to want to capitalize on Deadpool’s box office to add to his own gross and they have confirmed that Deadpool will stay R-Rated. but the meta-referencing to the MCU may have to be taken out if the character becomes part of the MCU and also if Ryan Reynolds does not continue to have control over the character as he does now then we lose something special.

Now they have said that Deadpool 3 will in fact be an X-Force movie and it is already in negotiations, however I do not believe that any development in terms of script, casting or filming will take place until this merger is confirmed. While I think Deadpool is meta enough to be the only surviving character from Fox in this merger, I do think making the movie as Fox but then either part way through or even at the point of premiere becoming a Disney property would mess up what is currently one of the best comic-book movie franchises out there.

Overall I rate this movie a 9/10, it’s not the best movie I have ever seen however both as the type of comic-book movie it promised and the type of character actor Ryan Reynolds is it is a perfect movie. It just isn’t higher because I do not feel the immediate urge of a rewatchability factor.

John’s Top 10 Movies of 2017

So here we are, another year in the books.  Let’s take a moment to put out another list among thousands and thousands of lists.  If you don’t agree, you can start your own blog.  Maybe you’ll be better at providing content on a regular basis than I am.

HONORABLE MENTION: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (December 15)

I can’t rank a Star Wars film in good conscience, especially one as polarizing as this one.  It was a great film (The Star Wars Nothing But Star Wars Retrospective will continue soon, trust me), but I still believe that the Star Wars saga is its own thing altogether that has managed to transcend its medium, yadda yadda yadda, pretentiousness.  So it takes the honorable mention in this list.

HONORABLE MENTION II: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO: The Disaster Artist (December 9)

I’ve put this as an honorable mention because, being the die-hard fan of The Room that I am, it’s the one movie I desperately wanted to see this year, but as of press time, I have not yet made it to see it.  First, it took forever for any of my local theaters to show it.  Then, there was a one-two punch of Christmas and a death in the family when it finally graced the tri-state area with its presence.  Then this weekend, my car broke down and no one would drive me.  Seriously, someone up there does not want me to see this fucking movie.  

10. Power Rangers (March 22)

This film was a very welcome surprise.  With such a beloved franchise, a reboot could only end in disaster.  And yet, it was a fun, refreshing, character-driven film that even non-fans, like myself, can enjoy.  I just wish that it could somehow get a sequel.

9. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (May 5)

I’ll admit, this one wasn’t as good as the first one.  It had its moments, like the Mr. Blue Sky opening (because I just can’t quit ELO), Ego’s big reveal, and the heartbreaking finale, but some of the jokes outstayed their welcome and weren’t as funny as the jokes from the original.  However, my opinion changed after I watched Lindsay Ellis’ wonderful essay on the film.  Give it a watch.

8. Kong: Skull Island (March 10)

So many studios have tried to replicate the lightning of a bottle that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Universal had its Dark Universe, which has had three different starting points, and none of them stuck.  Warner Bros.’ DC universe is barely a success in box office numbers alone.  And then there’s Legendary Entertainment’s MonsterVerse, which hit the ground running with 2014’s Godzilla, and followed that up with a damn good King Kong movie.  Kong’s first scene is terrifying, as is Samuel L. Jackson’s Captain Ahab-esque character who will not stop until Kong is dead.  2019’s Godzilla: King of The Monsters cannot come soon enough.

7. Thor: Ragnarok (November 3)

This film was an absolute delight.  It’s deliciously funny, there are some scenes that appear to come straight from the pen of Marvel legend Jack Kirby, and other scenes that are just begging to be painted on the side of a ‘70s panel van.  This one has to be the best Marvel film of 2017 hands down, with maybe Spider-Man Homecoming coming close.  That scene in the car with Peter and Vulture/Batman/Birdman, though.

6. IT (September 8)

IT was probably the first horror movie I’ve actually watched in theaters, and to be honest, it’s probably the best one I’ve seen that didn’t come out in the ‘80s.  Bill Skarsgård is ridiculous and terrifying in equal measure as Pennywise, even though I still hope that should I ever come across a clown hiding in the sewer, it’s Tim Curry.

5. Logan (March 3)

This is the solo Wolverine movie that fans wanted to see.  It’s gory, it’s brutal, it’s thrilling, it’s heartbreaking to watch, and of course, the perfect swan song for two iconic performances: Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.  Third time’s the charm, eh?

4. Dunkirk (July 21)

I made a mistake this year in not seeing Dunkirk on the big screen.  It demands to be seen in IMAX with the best sound system money can buy, especially when it comes to the dogfight scenes.  Being a World War II airplane nerd, seeing those Spitfires and hearing those Rolls Royce Merlin engines (“The sweetest sound you could hear out there,” a character remarks) in those well-shot and choreographed fight scenes make it worth the astronomical price of admission.  Or at least, I’d think so.

3. Logan Lucky (August 18)

This was another welcome surprise for me.  It’s probably one of the funniest movies of the year, with show-stopping moments like the warden arguing with the prison inmates over the perpetually-delayed final books of the A Song of Ice And Fire series or Daniel Craig’s character stopping the heist in its tracks to give a chemistry lesson on how gummy bears, a bleach pen and imitation salt can make an improvised explosive device.  However, I cannot suggest that you try this at home. Also, this year must’ve been really good for John Denver’s estate.  How many movies can you possibly shove “Take Me Home, Country Roads” into?

2. Blade Runner 2049 (October 7)

This film should not work.  A sequel to one of the most beloved sci-fi movies of all time made 35 years after the fact shouldn’t be the masterpiece that it is.  And yet, Denis Villeneuve and his cast and crew managed to pull it off.  It’s as beautiful to look at, as enigmatic, and sadly, as much of a financial heartbreaker as the original.  Seriously, I haven’t been as personally hurt by a film’s underperformance at the box office since Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.

And our Number One: Baby Driver (June 28)

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, If It’s Edgar Wright, You Can’t Go Wrong.  Spacey be damned, this film is another masterpiece by a director that has long been my favorite living director and my second all-time favorite, next to Kubrick, of course.  The soundtrack, the editing, the stunts, all top-notch.  On a more personal note, outside of a wonderful trip to Chicago, my summer had been a depressing trainwreck.  I bashed my eye against an endtable moving out of my college dorm, my grandmother died, I couldn’t find a job, it was a mess.  Then I went and saw Baby Driver.  When I saw the Bellbottoms Chase for the first time, it made me happier than I’d been in a while.  So thanks, Edgar.  Whatever you’ve got planned next, I’ll be in line day one.

The Witcher’s Geralt Visits Raccoon City in New Resident Evil 2 Mod

You can now toss a coin to your Witcher–Geralt, that is–in this new fan mod for Resident Evil 2 that brings the White Wolf to Racoon City.

The Witcher‘s iconic protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, has been famous for his monster-slaying skills across CD Projekt Red’s games and the recent Netflix series adaptation that debuted last month. Of course, while Geralt has faced down a ton of different foes over the years, some of the most challenging monsters that he has to face yet might be waiting for him in Raccoon City through a new fan mod that has appeared for Resident Evil 2 on PC.

A new mod for Resident Evil 2 has made its way to Nexus Mods from creators Wiwilz and awimosa, which brings Geralt of Rivia into Raccoon City for players to explore and take down all sorts of monsters. Given that Resident Evil 2 has made for a surprisingly versatile playground for mod makers, it only makes sense that the White Wolf himself would roam the abandoned grounds of Raccoon City. Clearly it’s time for Geralt to come face-to-face with Mr. X and settle the score.

The Geralt mod for Resident Evil 2 comes right after a new mod that appeared earlier this week bringing Ciri into Resident Evil 2 by the same creator (Wiwilz), where RE2 players can now play as the iconic Witcher protagonists in the acclaimed survival-horror remake. Naturally, Ciri was a model swap for Claire in RE2, meaning Geralt is meant as a swap for Leon, complete with facial animations and an incredibly accurate model to how Geralt appears in The Witcher 3. The one downside is that while Geralt’s signature silver and steel swords are on his back, they’re purely cosmetic and can’t be used in-game. That said, we don’t exactly know if a silver sword would actually work on a Resident Evil zombie or not, but the knife seems like it might do the trick.

Aside from bringing The Witcher‘s Geralt and Ciri into the fold, several other mods have made their way into Resident Evil 2 to make the game both more frightening and hilarious. Since the game launched early last year, we’ve seen everything from The Last of Us‘ Ellie, to Pennywise the Clown from It, and even to the terrifying experience of being chased down by the Goose from Untitled Goose Game.

Resident Evil 2 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, while The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. For a closer look at the Geralt mod in RE2, you can check out the images below, along with a video from You Mashub (YouTube):

WARNING: VIOLENCE

“Now, how have you been, little Ellie?” Pennywise's grin is demonic, the words slopping out like the saliva, as he brings his hands forward in front of his chest, touching every finger tip to its opposite on the other hand. He walks forward and to the side of her, stalking her, forcing her to scramble to her feet in order to be able to face him and keep him in her line of sight.

Then, without warning, and faster than she can fathom, he is directly before her. He plops onto his bottom with a soft silky sound, his finger tips still touching. She’s looking down at the cracks on his forehead within his receding hairline as he slowly angles his face, now smooth and devoid of any malice, to bring his now periwinkle blue eyes to meet her own eyes. As if he’s openly trying to appear less threatening.

“I’ve…….. Been alright.” On impulse, she drops to her own bottom before him, mirroring his actions as she touches her fingertips together and rests her chin on the tips of her thumbs. He looks visibly taken aback by this action.

“Did you miss me, Ellie?” His brows are raised and his face tilts slightly with this question.

“More than you’ll ever know. And…. We gotta look pretty silly sitting like this, in the middle of the street.” Ellie stiffles a giggle. Pennywise merely gives her a dour look.

“No one shall come.” His tone isn’t threatening, but quite calm. “Why have you come back to Derry?”

She thinks about lying. She really does. Thinks about some socially acceptable and meaningless answer. Then dismissed the thought just as quickly. He’ll know she’s lying anyhow. “You, Pennywise. I came back to see you.”

“Foolish.” The answer is rapid fire and caustic, but Ellie feels no ire.

“Why?” she questions. “And what about you? Do you ever think about me? I think about you a lot. You saved my life. And I’ve never forgotten.”

His face is completely blank for several moments. “I was going to kill you, Ellie.”

She should probably feel afraid. Yet, she doesn’t.

“But you didn’t. You saved my life. And you saved me again this night. And I thank you, Pennywise.” Throwing caution to the wind, she lurches forward onto her knees, wrapping her arms around his neck, burrowing her face into his neck ruff. It is more stiff than she remembers. But his reaction is just the same. She feels the weight of his long arms as he drapes them over her shoulders, resting them on her back. He’s not returning her hug. But he’s not outright refusing it either.

Releasing him, she stands, brushing dirt off of her ruined pants. Turning her back to him in a blatant show of trust, she stands her bike up. It’s surprisingly unharmed. She mounts it, turning her head back to him, fully expecting him to be gone. But he’s still sitting, cross legged, his hands now folded in his lap.

“I’m gonna go home now. Will I see you again?” She can’t help the hopeful tone in her voice.

“Yes. Yes I think you will, Ellie.” His voice is raspy and dark.

It watches her pedal away, It’s mind clouded and thoughtful. What is wrong with this human? She is clearly defective. Not an ounce of fear. Not even discomfort. The girl had been FAR more afraid of that sniveling weak whelp It'd peeled off of her than she was of Itself.

It tilts It’s head curiously at an emanation of the girl’s scent still in this area. It wafts from an object in the gutter.

As the weeks go by Ellie can’t seem to get RID of the clown.

He just appears out of nowhere. Sits and watches her. Not engaging in conversation more than answering her questions. And even these answers are caustic and clipped.

“Where did you come from?”

“You could never understand.”

“Do you have a true name?”

“My name is Pennywise.”

“This could not have POSSIBLY always have been your name.”

“You could not possibly pronounce my true name, child.”

Ellie never loses interest tho. He’s fascinating. And SO distracting. And eventually he begins to ask questions.

“Why do you do that?”

“Put on makeup? Because I like the way it makes me look.”

“It makes you look like one of those nocturnal mammals.”

Ellie stops and turns, raising a brow. “You BETTER not be talking about a racoon, Mister MoreMakeupThanADragQueen.”

“This is just my face, Ellie.”

The way her heart flutters at hearing her name coming from him makes her mess up her eyeliner wing.

Each day, the feeling of being with him never fades. Never goes stale. She’s always just as thrilled to see him as she was the first time.

This is how her mind is occupied when she goes to peddle her bike across the street one night, during a red light. And this is how her mind is occupied when a drunk driver ignores this red light…..

It studies the soft object in It’s hands. Squeezing the thing softly and sniffing it and studying it. Reaching out It’s mind to comb her thoughts as It often does now. Her thoughts are on It. They nearly always are. It cannot understand her obsession. It cannot understand It’s own fascination with her. Squeezing the object again, thoughtfully, It examines this fascination.

It has never received such attention before. Has never felt this feeling of adoration from any being. Only fear and repugnance. It supposes It should end her. Free itself of her. Yet, the thought of NOT seeing this inquisitive creature anymore…… of NOT listening to her voice as she talks about her day, as she queries It of the silliest things……… of NEVER seeing another being's eyes widen and nostrils flare with inherent pleasure at It’s presence……… the empty idea is distasteful.

It is now that her thoughts spear into It’s mind of their own accord. FORCING their way in. As if she is CALLING for It. It drops the object It has been holding, closes It’s eyes, and focuses all of It’s will upon her mind.

FEAR. The first It has ever felt from her. And the images are so FAST. One moment she is humming, kpop she refers to this kind of tune, and watching the concrete of a street, now wet from a recent rain, glisten by to the glow of a street light. The next, she’s looking at 2 lights. Brighter than twin suns. Bouncing along like inferior deadlights. An engine snarling as terrifying as any sound It could make. And then pain. Searing awful pain. It is concentrating so hard on what she’s seeing that It’s own gloved hand reaches up to clutch the silk at It’s belly in response. Then her mind is dark. Not sleeping. Not dreaming. Not conscious.

When It’s eyes snap open, they flash the purest crystalline blue. It has never felt worry. Has never wanted to PREVENT any act of negative import upon another being. But this rapid and thoughtless end…… this will not do. Must not happen.

A brief glimmer of will transports It to her side. It ignores the screech of brakes applied to tires. Screams of shock and terror at It’s instant presence matter not one wit to It. The drunk driver stumbling out of the car is nearly invisible to It, his apologetic cries and mumbling the equivalent to the clicking of ant legs and just as insignificant. The only thing that holds It’s attention is her broken form slumped upon the concrete.

Striding over to her, It kneels, touching her shoulder. The fingers of his gloves come back glossy with blood. It places It’s hands upon her side and pulls her to her back. She’s slack jawed and very pale. It can hear her fluttering and weak heart. Can see a large bloody wound upon her stomach. Watches the life force pouring from her.

“Hey! I’m sorry! She came outta nowhere, I swear!” the drunkard touches the clown’s shoulder.

Placing both palms protectively upon Ellie, Pennywise whips his face around, his eyes blazing vermilion, his jaws flayed impossibly wide, and sinks innumerable fangs into the forearm of the man. The sickening snap of a dislocated elbow joint is heard as the clown jerks his face away again, a large chunk of the man’s flesh coming with it. Then only shrill screams are heard as the man stumbles away, clutching his injured arm to his chest. Pennywise spits the meat out as if it tastes of shit.

Ellie coughs and splutters beneath It. As It nuzzles her cheeks, the foreign blood on It’s cheeks mixing with hers, It does not realize that the pitiful mewling and keening sounds It is hearing are coming from It’s own chest. They flutter up to the heavens to mix with the wailing of approaching ambulance sirens.

Pulling It’s face back, It calms as It begins to assess her more clinically. She is bleeding. She is dying. This simply will. Not. Do. It can only destroy. So It must destroy the blood.

The screaming of the bystanders behind It annoys It and disturbs It’s concentration and with a careless flick of It’s bloody hand, the adults freeze and stare complacently. A quiet and solemn audience to a very dark miracle.

Placing It’s fingertips upon the gash in Ellie’s stomach, It focuses on her blood vessels. On each and every torn and flawed capillary. And WILLS the bleeding to die. WILLS the destruction of her injuries.

Ellie is floating, adrift in a sea of pain. But even this is nothing compared to the eruption of FIRE within her belly. The exquisite agony of FLAME blooms here like a blazing flower perched upon the slopes of hell itself. She screams, yet her jaw does not move. She weeps, yet her eyes are dry. She is motionless in a torrent of blazing DEATH, yet she does not die.

And then, even her consciousness goes numb. Swirling into the stream of stars surrounding some unfathomable interdimensional world she cannot comprehend. Resting in a dream where she is laughing and tapping the noses of these stars. Sitting in the silken lap of a silent protector. She leans into him and forgets all.

When her eyes finally open, she sees the white ceiling above her hospital bed in muted light from her bedside table lamp.

She learns that her survival was impossible. That she should have bled out there in the street. But, for some reason, all of her major bleeding points had been…….. Cauterized. And for some reason, none of these logical minded surgeons are questioning this poignant information.

But none of these things are what she remembers the most. All she can focus on, even as they are telling her these things, is the dirty clown plush on her bedside table. It smells of sewer and looks as if it has been handled quite a bit. She thought she’d lost it during her conflict with Webby. Thought she’d lost it to the gutter. But here it is. Mottled and grimey and adorable as ever. She could not possibly know how often Pennywise has clutched at it while thinking of her.

When she gets out of the hospital, she rushes home, knowing she’ll find him there. And she’s right. As she bursts thru her front door, she sees him standing in her living room, hands behind his back. Standing stiffly, as if he’s done something wrong.

And she just doesn’t care. The joy inside her chest, wrapping around the burn scars upon her belly, is nearly painful in it’s intensity.

“Pennywise….” She feels tears prickling in her eyes.

“Ellie.” His periwinkle blue eyes meet hers.

“I love you.”
