Was reading a bit of Injustice and Alfred told Superman he's disappointed in him and I'm shocked that didn't halt the entire storyline. Honestly I think in main comics canon nothing can hurt more than Alfred being disappointed in you, he's a man who will stick by you despite your flaws so that must sting like a burning bullet. I think even the Justice League fears that shit. Only few who maybe don't is Diana and J'onn only because they probably think it couldn't happen to them.

If Alfred said it to Clark? No he's crying, that's his cool uncle man, there's no coming back from that

Said it to Barry? He's on the floor, he's not been running for the last week

Said it to Olly? Man doesn't even realize it, but he's in absolute shock

Hal is cocky at first like "what do I care what that guy's father thinks?" but it chips away at him slowly

Everyone knows what happens to Batman and his kids when that happens

Kim knew she was being a little secretive but she didn't know Penny that well, considering they had just met, and she didn't want to scare her off. Swynlake with all its faults was actually a great place to live and if Kim thought otherwise then she would have transferred to a university in America after her first year.

A little bit after Bruce got back to Gotham from his years of training all around the world :

After the shock his return provoked everywhere in the city, all the interviews he had to give, and him slowly building his “Brucie Wayne” persona, giving ridiculous excuses as to why he disappeared those past years : he has a few moment of respite, of free time.  

Before he has to give more interviews, before he has to go back to the cave he found under his manor to work on things there, and make it better...He stops by his parents’ grave. 

Of course. 

Alfred is with him, that day, as Bruce did not feel like going alone. Not after all those years. He just couldn’t...and Alfred has always been his rock, in the moments he missed his parents the most. So here they both are. But then, as he walks towards the mausoleum, he realizes something. Something that makes him grit his teeth to not cry. They reach his parents...

“It’s his birthday, today.” 

“It is, sir.” 

There’s a small silence, during which Bruce stands still, in front of his parents grave, a bouquet of flowers in his hand. 

“You took care of the grave.”

“Naturally.” 

“Thank you”. 

Another silence, until Bruce bends down, and puts the flowers on the grave. He stays there, knelt before the monument for a few minutes. Alfred waits patiently, knowing his young Master Bruce needs this. 

Finally, Bruce breaks the silence again, and starts to speak. Alfred isn’t sure if he’s talking to him, or to no one in particular, to himself maybe ? But he listens anyway : 

“I hear that I look like him.”

The butler does not need to ask who he is talking about. After all...It his Thomas Wayne’s birthday today. Of course, the “boy” would think about this. Bruce continues, in a whisper that is barely audible : 

“As I get older I see him in the mirror more, making fun of my bed hair and copying my smile. People who knew him regard me with both pain and joy in their gaze. They can’t help but see their friend, but do they know it’s just me? They have to, right? I’m taller and broader, less funny yet more of a clown. Could I be him? Do I want to? I’m not even good at being me sometimes.”

Alfred thinks Bruce talks to him, but he cannot be sure. His master continues :

“I don’t recall ever sharing a birthday cake with him ? I must’ve, but for some reason, the memory slips my mind. I don’t recall ever sharing a birthday cake with him, on his birthday ? But I’ve wished I could every year since I lost the chance. Maybe next year is the year? Probably not, always could be, but I think I’ll stick around awhile; I’m gonna run Death ragged, that bastard owes me big time.”

Now, Alfred has to use all the will in his power to stay serene, and to keep the tears at bay. Bruce stands up, and grazes the grave with his fingers, before continuing : 

“Do you even get birthday cake in the afterlife? Just one more question I’ll add to the infinite list. I don’t think plaques or bricks know what cake is, anyway. - short pause - I’ll probably look more like him as time goes on. All the way up to age 38, then after that I guess it’s a mystery. Guess I’ll just look like me...”

Bruce’s fingers caress the grave slowly, until he takes a few steps back. And he finally finishes with : 

“Anyway, Happy Birthday Dad. I hope there’s cake. See you. You too, mom. I love you.” 

And then Bruce leaves, without another word, on to the path of becoming Batman. And all Alfred can do, is watch him walk away. 

As years go by, he keeps going back to his parents grave...And it gets easier. Because as the years go by, he found the meaning of the word “family” again. Of course, Alfred sticks around. He IS and always will be family. Bruce brings his kids with him, too. Dick, Jason, Tim, Cass, Damian...He tells them about his dad. And he’s glad, that they’re here, the day he realizes that...That’s it, he really is finally older than his father will ever be, and it hits him more than he ever imagined. So the support of his children ? It means everything.

Ok. Done. I don’t know what this is, I just wanted to talk a little about Bruce’s parents. This one is for Thomas, I’m pretty sure I’ll make a post for Martha, too.
