Potentially unpopular opinion, but I don't think it was illogical for Paxton to worry about no longer being the "cool guy". I do think that they could have done better with his story in season 4, but the concept of not being able to let go of an old label is perfectly realistic. In fact, I can relate to him, even though the label I was clinging on to was a different one. Yes, Paxton did not want to be defined by his label. And it's true that he did not look down on people who were not popular. But those things are different from being able to fully let go of a label that you've grown attached to.

I used to be a top student in my school up until the 10th grade, and I absolutely did not like people looking at me as the girl who had no life outside of studying. I wanted to be seen as more than just that. And I do NOT think that being a top student means that you are smarter than other students. And yet, even now, 8 years after I stopped being that girl, a tiny part of me still wishes I could have stayed a top student (my grades started falling when I was in grade 11). College helped me define myself beyond that label. But that doesn't mean there isn't a part of me that still longs for it. And when my grades first started really falling, it was actually pretty devastating (even though that was also the same year my classmates started seeing me differently from how they used to see me).

So no, I do not find it unrealistic that Paxton, who just a short while ago, had been the "king of his high school", had trouble completely letting go of his label, even though he obviously did not want to be defined by it. I do think there were other ways to go about this same arc without bringing him back as an assistant swim coach, though. And Daxton deserved better closure. And Paxton just wasn't around enough in the last season despite having his own episode.

Also, the fact that Devi and Paxton sort of got to be in each other's shoes in the final season was pretty cool. He got to see her struggle with getting into college. And she got to see him struggle with being seen as "uncool".

The Second Time

“Are people talking about me being slutty again? Is that how you heard?” Her voice quivered just a little and Paxton wanted to hug her. Instead he shook his head. 

“I…I just…” he stopped, trying to think of the right thing to say. “I overheard Trent and Eleanor. It’s none of my business, you’re right. Nobody else knows. No one is talking shit. Except me. I guess. I’m pretty pissed at Ben Gross. But I have no right. I know that.”

I finally have some free time and I’m trying to get back to writing fics, but I’m staring at the 38 Daxton fics I’ve started but haven’t finished and I’m realizing I need help 😭. Would anyone like to vote on the fics I’ve started or maybe send in prompts? I need motivation 🏃🏽‍♀️

opinion on devi feeling ready for sex and having no insecurities with ben only and not with paxton? seeing all the gifs and write ups comparing this bums me out a lot

I've seen the posts too, look I don't think it's fair to say Paxton made Devi feel insecure or not ready for sex, Devi made herself feel that way. We've seen Paxton constantly complement her through the seasons and he's even told her he likes her multiple times.. but Devi didn't like herself to believe that someone else could actually like her which led to their break up. Adding onto this in season 3 there was so much external pressure, Lady whistle boy, anonymous texts, Haley, judgemental looks from almost the whole school etc. She didn't have to deal with this in a relationship with Des and she might not with Ben as well..

Now about her not being ready for sex, again you can't blame or bash Paxton as a character or Daxton as a ship for it, Devi was a sophomore when they dated.. but Devi grew and she felt ready with Des in 3x08.. they probably would have hooked up if Des' mom didn't walk in on them. Yeah and then in 3x10 we see her go to Ben to redeem her boink card. So like Devi was a sophomore when she didn't feel ready and she had her first time after junior year ended so its more than a year, she's grown a lot.. so yeah that's it ig

If we don’t end up with Daxton at the end of season 4, I will honestly be so confused.

I’m not saying B*n and Devi don’t have great moments, or even great chemistry. There’s so much good banter there and honestly, some of the funniest scenes are with B*n and Devi.

But the amount of build up, of moments where it could’ve been B*n, it was Paxton.

He is the only one she actually ended up with, she apologized to him first, she made amends, she opened up to him, she helped him open up.

There’s a lot more. And I suppose the argument could be made that bc she already dated Paxton, B**vi will be endgame, but even in season 3, it’s Paxton.

I’m not disregarding Devi’s feelings for B*n. I definitely think she has them, and that they’re serious, but when you look at the way the character arcs were built;

Paxton had to grow up a little from someone who didn’t give a shit about much, to someone who shows genuine love and compassion towards people, even the ones he isn’t the biggest fan of. He has drive and ambition that was always there, but she helped him find it.

Devi had to learn that her worth was not tied to Paxton. He didn’t make her great, she was great on her own from the jump. Which is why he fell for her.

Her losing her virginity to B*n doesn’t cancel out Daxton, it could be just another part of her journey. She held Paxton to such a high standard, especially in the realm of sex. This is another area she needs to mature in. She built hooking up with Paxton in her mind to be this incredible thing and it was too much and she wasn’t ready.

Idk I’m rambling at this point but still, if we don’t get Daxton, I am going to be honestly so confused. Writers do things on purpose to move a story along. So maybe I’m just dumb? Lmao who knows but it will always be Daxton for me.

And it’ll always be Devi for Paxton

Paxton's journey around Devi.

This is long!  I wrote this in reddit as an answer to a question… I thought I could add some pics and do a nice post from it (I don’t do gifs 🙈) I hope you like it.

 

Paxton is a teenager. He is very confortable on his junior year. He is popular, has a future in swimming, he cares a lot a bout his family and has an easy life, when something bothers him or makes him feel awkward he just brushes it off and keeps going (like with all the girls he had sex).

But here he is in his junior year. And he meets Devi and she is supposed to be another of her ‘sex without commitment girls’ but… it doesn’t happen… what happens is that he starts knowing her and he likes her, so he doesn’t want to have sex with her anymore because he does not want to loose her… not because of her or his status… from episode 2 he is already involve and empathetic with Devi and this boy will start orbiting around her even when he does not want to.  

When he gets mad because she was saying they had sex it is not because of his status either, it is because he though they had something else, something different and when he realizes that for her it means nothing, he is upset about it (I would be too) but he still supports her lie because he cares about her, although he can not completely process what he is feeling because she is pushing him out of his comfort zone.  

But he will still be there and when he helps her at he swimming pool party he comprehends that there is really something more.They kiss and he cares about the kiss but when he goes to see her the day after her mom calls him basically an idiot and he has doubts again because (as we said) he is getting out of his comfort zone, but here he is again waiting for her, apologizing.

A lot of people criticizes he needs his sister to realize, but I don’t understand why. I think it is great to have such a good relationship with your siblings: it helps you grow and it shows he listens and really wants to learn.

So… after the disaster in the date with friends with Trent vomiting (my god Pax, that was really a disaster of a date 😆😆) he gets hurt when he chooses Ben to collect garbage…. and he decides to openly tell her he wants something with her and he puts everything in it because he really likes her (I would say more than like, here, this boy is in love although he has maybe not realize yet). 

And when does he realize? I think he does realize just the second he learns she is cheating and what he says just before the car hitting him speaks loud “ As if you could hurt me” of course she can, and she did, and he is so mad he tries to convince himself they do not make any sense but they do make sense… so again he is orbiting around her,  because he is in love: he loves how genuine she is and how he feels when she is around, he loves her in her ups and downs but that doesn’t stop him from telling her his opinion (always respectfully).

So when they get together and he says no to the dance is because he is in love and scared and doesn’t even know how to explain himself (much less his friends) that he is with the girl that cheated on him and that hurt him that much… the thing is that if he doesn’t step forward he is going to loose her, so he does… and tells Trent that he really trusts her this time and this is so beautiful… 

At the same time, he is spending more time with people out of his circle and getting to know them and he also cares about them. 

And you know what comes next… he breaks up because he has to let her go, because he knows she is spiraling and their relationship is not good for her. He loves her… and cares about her every second since first season episode 2…

After breaking up he still cares about her but not only her also about the people he has bonded with (like Fabiola o Eleanor). And some people says around 3x05 he is again at the beginning but he is not… although he is trying… he is trying to go back to when everything was simple and he could brush things off but he can’t and by the end of this episode he embraces who he really is, he says he will be helping more because he enjoys it an he cares abut people. We learn later it did not work with her new girlfriend because that is not the kind of relationship he wants anymore.

He has a great arc and he and Devi  make each other better, but Devi needs time to finish growing, to gain confidence and to finally realize who she truly is and what she really wants and he is giving her the space and hopefully when she goes through this process she will return to him to have the relationship they both deserve.

i love how they really delved into just how much paxton actually cares this season; its in the way paxton found devi when she was upset and comforted her. the way paxton helped ben process his feelings and also keeping him company in hospital. the way paxton lended a listening ear to fabiola and helped her to ask aneesa out. the way paxton tried to break the news that he was moving to trent in the gentlest way he could. paxton hall-yoshida is so gentle actually and its so endearing
