Enjoy The Beautiful Willamette Valley Oasis Known As The Schreiner's Iris Gardens In Salem OR
Spanning four generations, Schreiner's Iris Gardens has been in existence for nearly a century. Originally the dream of a man living in St Paul MN, the business was taken by his three children to Willamette Valley in Salem OR and has continued to blossom from there.
It all started with 15 acres of land, and at one point the family had 200 acres of bearded irises. The display gardens are set on 10 acres, and the property is gorgeous. Check out the gardens, gift shop and more during blooming season at Schreiner's Iris Gardens, located on Quinabay Road.
Picnic tables are available, and you can also get food from nearby vendors. The gardens make for a nice setting for family photos, too. It's the history behind this family enterprise and its display garden that make the place even more interesting. It is all tied to a man named F.X. Schreiner and a chance meeting that propelled him to go into business selling irises back in 1925.
There are over 500 different varieties of irises within the gardens, and that doesn't count the companion plants. On the weekends, there are live demonstrations at the gardens, all about teaching people how to cultivate irises. Keep in mind that you do have to pay for parking, but that is essentially your admission into these beautiful gardens.
If you show up in a car with your family, parking is only $5. Buses and other larger vehicles are charged at a higher rate. There are events held at the gardens throughout the year, such as the Keizer Iris Festival and Annual Artist Fair. Even if you've been to other display gardens across the US, the beauty and family history of Schreiner's Iris Gardens in Willamette Valley is going to blow you and your family away.
