The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology (Marauder's Version)
So me and @idkjustlemmedrownlikerab got carried away again... and we related every single song on TTPD to the Marauders characters :D
You put a Jily shipper and a Jegulus shipper in a chat together and this is what comes out of it.
(We also had some help from @noblehouseofgay, so shout outs to him!)
(We plan on covering every album, so make sure to look out for those!)
So now we present... TTPD (Marauder's Version)
Fortnight
"And for a fortnight there, we were forever."
The way we interpreted the song was that it's about what starts as a loveless fling, but someone ends up catching feelings. Narcissa resenting Alice (and Frank) after they break off what they had.
The Tortured Poets Department
Mohishaa and I had different views on this one, so I will share them both!
"You're not Dylan Thomas, I'm not Patti Smith."
Mohishaa's interpretation of the title track was that Barty and Regulus only really had each other and they knew that. Just replace the names with "Evan Rosier" and "James Potter" and you've got yourself a Bartylus anthem.
"But I've seen this episode and still loved the show."
I have personally always viewed this song as Sirius just being knee-deep in love with Remus. Everything from the lines about chocolate, to the wedding ring line just screams Wolfstar to me.
(I wanted to include both because we're each very attached to our own headcanons and that is okay! Disagreeing does not always have to result in arguing!)
My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys
"And I'll tell you that he runs because he loves me."
This is basically just James and Remus talking about their traumatized, unstable boyfriends.
Down Bad
"For a moment I knew cosmic love."
We both agreed that it's Jegulus, but we cannot decide between it being from Jame's perspective or Regulus's perspective.
So Long, London
"I stopped CPR, after all it's no use. The spirit was gone, we would never come to."
Sirius and James mourning the loss of someone who was to one brother and to another a lover. (Shh... it's Regulus).
But Daddy I Love Him
"...Thinking it can change the beat of my heart when he touches me and counteract the chemistry and undo the destiny."
Lily about James... except she wasn't lying when she said she was having his baby.
Fresh Out The Slammer
"At the park where we used to sit on children's swings, wearing imaginary rings."
Mohishaa didn't have many thoughts on this one, so I basically came up with this one. I see it as Sirius after he escapes Azkaban doing everything he can to find Remus again. (After he rides away on Buckbeak, that is).
Florida!!!
"Little did you know that your home's really only the town you'll get arrested."
We, for the life of us, could not think of something for this song, so thank you Reg for pitching in! He came to the conclusion that is song is Rosekiller coded because, and I quote "Drug and murder vibes are them."
Guilty as Sin?
"I dream of cracking locks, throwing my life to the wolves or the ocean rocks."
"Crash the (Halloween) party as I scream: "Who's afraid of little old me?!"
I did not have much to say on this one, so all credit due to Mo here! "Guilty is Sin is Jegulus to me and I can and will not see anything else."
Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?
Peter Pettigrew. That's it. That's the argument. No one suspected a thing about him. No one knew that he was capable of being the reason everything went wrong. (That being said... all love to younger Peter <3)
I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)
"I can fix him. No really, I can. And only I can."
Mo and I also struggled with this one and then Reg came in with the most brilliant interpretation we had ever heard and we both felt like freaking idiots. I thought Lily about Severus, Mo thought Rosekiller about each other, and then Reg said "My gut says James" and we were both like "OHHHHHHHHH!" My man James has the want to fix everything. To save everyone. But he simply just can't.
loml
"It was legendary, it was momentary, it was unnecessary, should've let it stayed buried."
Sirius and Remus during the second war because their love was so tragic that not even a second chance could save it, even thought it was meant to be. (We also had Jegulus in mind for this).
I Can Do It With a Broken Heart
"Cause I'm miserable! And nobody even knows!"
"And I don't miss what we had, but could someone give a message to the smallest man who ever lived?"
If this song isn't James Fleamont Potter, then I don't know what is.
The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
I am not a Severus hater by any means, but both Mo and I agreed that the song is 1000000000000% percent about Severus.
The Alchemy
"The greatest in the league. Where's the trophy? He just comes running over to me."
This song is written about the beautiful romance between James and Lily Potter and you cannot tell us otherwise.
Clara Bow
"Flesh and blood amongst war machines, you're the new god we're worshipping."
In the wise words of Mo herself "It's James maybe? Cause he was brought up by parents who loved him so much and always told him he was special and how he was a little arrogant and cocky because of that. But as he grew up he realized that it's hell to be heavenly you know because everyone idolized him and he was this ball of sunshine and felt like he couldn't share his problems cause other people had it worse???" Couldn't have worded it better myself.
The Black Dog
"I just don't understand how you don't miss me."
No discussion was needed for this one. It's obviously about Sirius Black. (And possibly about the resentment he held towards Remus and Tonks after he died.)
imgonnagetyouback
"Whether I'm gonna curse you out or take you back to my house, I haven't decided yet."
Barty and Evan because "no one else is toxic enough."
The Albatross
"She's the albatross, she is here to destroy you."
My main girl, day one, love of my life Dorcas freaking Meadowes.
Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus
"And you saw my bones out with somebody new who seemed like he would've bullied you in school."
"We learned the right steps to different dances...how did it end?"
This is Severus after finding out Lily and James started dating. He never wants to know if Lily ever loved him back because it would make the pain hurt even more than it already did.
How Did It End?
James Potter and Regulus Black if I've ever seen it.
So High School
"Truth, dare, spin bottles. You know how to ball, I know Aristotle."
At first, I had no idea because "None of them really lived that long after highschool to be able to look back on it." (I know, that was foul of me).
"I hate it here so I will go to secret gardens in my mind."
We were debating between Jily and Wolfstar, before eventually settling on Wolfstar (and giving the Alchemy to Jily!)
I Hate It Here
"But I can't forget the way you made me heal."
Remus post war because he's alone and lonely because all his friends are dead because the love of his freaking life killed them all or so he thought and how his he ever supposed to move on and get ov-
thanK you aIMee
Instead of Taylor to Kim, it's Lily to Severus. Instead of "thanK you aIMee" it's "Still, No APologiEs?" (I tried... I really tried guys).
I Look in People's Windows
"I look in people's windows, in case you're at their table."
This song is Mary Macdonald post war. She looks for the faces of people she knows are no longer there. She longs for what they had before everything went so awfully wrong.
The Prophecy
"It was sinking in, slow is the quicksand. Poison blood from the wound of the pricked hand."
"You can mark my words that I said it first in a mourning warning no one heard."
So... you know how there's a blood sacrifice required to get into the cave... and how a certain someone drowned... or in other words sunk? Yeah. That's what I'm talking about.
Cassandra
Pandora Rosier Lovegood. Thank you very much, have a great day!
Peter
"You said you were gonna grow up, then you were gonna come find me."
The tragic tale of the Black Brothers told by Regulus.
The Bolter
"Behind her back, her best mates laughed and they nicknamed her "The Bolter."
So we heavily debated between Marlene and Sirius for this one, but I'm gonna say Marlene because she's the only character we haven't given a song to yet. Isn't the whole story in fanon that Marlene ran away to stay with her family, and that just so happened to be the night that Voldemort went after them? Fitting.
Robin
"Buried down deep and out of your reach, the secret we all vowed to keep it, from you."
The tragic tale of the Black Brothers told by Sirius.
The Manuscript
"Now and then I re-read the manuscript, but the story isn't mine anymore."
This song is Regulus looking back on his break up with James after he took the dark mark.
~
WOO, if you're still reading, THANK YOU! This took me like 2 hours to type out! Make sure to come back to see Midnights, coming soon! (To a theater near you.)

Interesting House Guests
(Or The time Sirius invited the lads to spend the week at Grimmauld Place)
Sirius knew the best way to get them invited was to play up any of their families' wizarding credentials and make them sound as socially acceptable as possible. James was a guarantee. Remus was easy, too, because no one ever asked about the mothers. Peter would be a bit more of a challenge. “And Peter’s family live in London -”
“Is he related to Parcell Pettigrew?” Sirius jumped a bit in his seat as his father interrupted the conversation from behind his newspaper. Sirius had forgotten that his father was also in the room.
“Possibly?” Sirius tried to recall if Peter had ever mentioned anyone by that name. He only ever mentioned his mother, Primrose, and Grandmother, Patty. “Who is Parcell?”
“A nitwit.”
“Oh, then they are definitely related,” Sirius replied, which earned him a light chuckle from behind his father’s newspaper.
Orion had his face buried so often behind a copy of the Daily Prophet that when they were younger, Sirius convinced Regulus that their father didn’t have a face at all. In Sirius’ defense, after the lie blew up in his face and caused Regulus to run down the hall screaming like a banshee when their father came home that evening, it was a stupid joke to fall for because while it was a rare sight, Regulus had most definitely had seen their father’s face before.

Just for fun. How about a character tier of R and former R members?
Duncan Olivia Real!Jacob The fugly slut that's pretending to be our brother Shiratori Rakepick Burke Pettigrew Verruca Merula Peregrine
(do tell me if I forgot about someone)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is mine. HBU?
I absolutely love that the top tier is just “Rakepick” 💖
Also, I couldn’t resist the urge to separate it into two lists as I didn’t know how to approach the “Pawn” tier. See, the thing is that I don’t think it’s necessarily connected to being powerful… Therefore, I decided on “How powerful they are?” and “How important they are for R?”.
Oh, and I added Zenith Xeep. I believe she was involved with R only for that one thing with the Memory Potion (and probably didn’t even know much about what’s going on), but still.
“How powerful they are?”
Tumblr media
“How important they are for R?”
Tumblr media
Some commentary under the cut.
I actually believe that Verucca is pretty damn powerful, and I do think that she's pretty much equal with Rakepick and Peregrine. I even wouldn't be surprised if Peregrine is above her not because he's more powerful, but because he is The Father of the siblings.
Reall!Jacob has to be pretty powerful as well, and I'm thinking here mostly about the scene where Rakepick told MC in the fourth year: "You remind me of myself. I have only said that to one person before...". That one person was probably Jacob (full analysis in this post). And come on, if Rakepick compares anyone to herself, they must be quite impressive.
I also put Shiratori higher in the ranking. Jam City did him pretty dirty later on, and currently, I don't think he's that powerful (even if he's apparently a powerful Legilimens). But I remembered when he escaped in Y6. Moody told us then that he defeated his best Aurors, so... I have to acknowledge that he was meant to be way more powerful.
I can agree on Olivia but I think that Duncan was pretty good, too. For example, Bilton told us that he used to reconstruct his products entirely. I mean, you need some decent level of magical prowess for that.
Surprisingly, I do believe that Fugly Slut is decently powerful, simply because I doubt that R would send someone weak for such an important mission. On top of that, I still think there's a small chance that he's actually Verucca, so...
As for Merula... I might not like her, and I do think that she's terribly written, but... she's not weak. It's mostly her personality that stops her from being really powerful.
Pettigrew is a disgusting human being, but again, he is pretty powerful. He did become an Animagus, he killed 12 Muggles with one non-verbal, he outsmarted the whole wizarding world, and he played a rather big part in bringing back Voldemort himself.
Burke... I mean, he can't be totally weak if he worked as a Healer for so many years, right? Also, he kind of kicked Moody's ass... But I don't know. I'd say he's alright overall, maybe just not very experienced in combat.
Finally, I'm afraid that she was rather weak even before her accident. I mean, she was an opera diva for her whole life. In the best-case scenario, she was extremely out of practice.
Now, I put Rakepick in the "Crucial for their existence" tier simply because of how obsessed R is with her. Like, it's still not known when they started sending her threats to stay away from the Cursed Vaults, the Red Cloak talked about her again. Seriously, it's not healthy.
*insert the image of Patty as Regina George with the caption: "Why are you so obsessed with me?"*
Real!Jacob and his importance are rather obvious.
Verucca mentioned once that they had high hopes for Shiratori because of his lineage, so I assume he had to be pretty important, even if he became redundant. Plus, we have his Legilimency. Silimar argument actually applies to Fugly Slut. I assume that he was chosen for this task for some reason. His skills, perhaps? I mean, I still think it'd make the most sense if he was a Metamorphmagus as the Polyjuice Potion can be pretty risky.
In the "Pawn" tier, I put basically anyone who might be useful somehow, but if something happens to them, it's not a big loss. They're not necessarily entirely equal, but... yeah.
Finally, we have Pettigrew because I still refuse to accept his existence in this story. I'd like to know what kind of drugs you have to take to decide it's a good idea.

Toronto’s first Indigenous healing lodge for women in conflict with the law has been given the green light.
Scarborough’s committee of adjustment approved the proposal Thursday despite an emotionally charged community meeting last month and objections by nine residents at Thursday’s meeting who raised concerns about parking, increased crime and declining property values.
Four supporters, most of whom are also area residents, urged the committee to approve the project and were thrilled by the decision.
“I don’t even have words to describe it,” said Patti Pettigrew, board president of the Thunder Woman Healing Lodge Society.
“I’m just elated. And I am so grateful. This is going to help a lot of women,” she said, tearing up with emotion after the meeting.

❧ make sure you KISS your fist before you PUNCH me in the face ❧
Tumblr media
❝  Forgiveness is a war between the head and the heart and my body is a battleground. This is how it ends. I'm built of speed but nobody ever taught me how to back down. I wouldn't know how to outrun a war. ❞
BRIANNE TJU? No, that’s actually VIVIENNE ‘VIV’ CHANG from the NEXT GENERATION ERA. You know, the child of CHO CHANG and NICO TEJA? Only 21 years old, this GRYFFINDOR alumni works as an INDEPENDENT CURSEBREAKER and is sided with THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. SHE identifies as a CIS WOMAN and is a HALFBLOOD who is known to be CRITICAL, ABRASIVE, and UNFORGIVING but also DAUNTLESS, UNSTOPPABLE, and QUICK-WITTED. — &&. ( JANE, NZT, SHE/HER, 22. )
hellooooo this is jane
viv’s pinterest is here!!! ( she also has a smaller section HERE in my general quantum leap board )
viv is mostly a chaotic competitive
this is the girl who decided to try in her classes bc some asshole annoyed her and she decided the appropriate response was to beat him at everything he loves so
anyway it worked out! she found the academic half of her nerdjock truth and ended up taking way too many fucking newts and owls
her history of magic project in sixth year was about how the founders are fake/fables (the real people still existed probs but certainly the names and traits make more sense as fables and anyway surnames didn’t exist like that at the time and she has a lot of points and i bet someone tells her it’s a dumb idea so she devotes herself to it as her history of magic project) so get ready for her to tell u about that if she remotely values ur academic opinions/thoughts
tiny™
like 4′11″
maybe she’s hit 5′0″ now that she’s twenty one (good grief) but chances are no... also wouldn’t make a difference anyway —- she’d be an inch closer to some people and still over a foot shorter than her bf
she was a chaser for gryffindor from a young age, and until she was in sixth year, she’d really intended on playing professionally and had been involved in the sport from her youth, playing in younger leagues and being part of professional youth teams during her hogwarts years. it’s something she’s still v passionate about, but what it really comes down to is that when she was having her academic careers meeting in fifth year, she realised: there were other things she equally wanted to do with her life. before that moment, it had never really been framed that way, like there was anything else she cared enough about to do for the rest of her life, that there was anything else she was good enough to do, but after that meeting and during the months following, she really came to understand that while her notable speed and physicality would always be things she connected to, she truly loved history and academia, and the theory of magic (as well as the practical execution of curses / unravelling them), and something about combining those aspects with her determined and dauntless spirit set her on track for cursebreaking (independently —- we aren’t here for destroying magics of antiquity and other cultures for capitalism n banks y’all)
don’t fuck w her gals
will break ur nose and not apologise
will help lily bury a body if need be
cho is younger child of weisheng chang, who was brother to jia chang, mother to marlene mckinnon —- marlene and cho were cousins, except marls died when cho was a baby, rip (jia was younger and had her children when she was young, whereas weisheng had them later in life, and cho was his younger child). seeing as jia’s estrangement from their family was due to their parents and weisheng had no beef with her, they reconnected properly a few years before the mckinnons died (except now marlene is alive again, adult!cho’s popped out of existence, and viv’s now got a teenage mother who doesn’t know her and also her mother’s dead war hero of a cousin. it’s a Time™ aight)
in fourth, year she once paid the quidditch commentator a galleon to call al “prefect potter” during an entire game and her defence to her mother was “listen he likes it and anyway it’s re-establishing his authority and reminding all the youths which one he is, as if they could forget a walking mountain”
(she does call him prefect potter)
v ride or die
loves dogs and magical creatures, hates birds and cats
just…. she’s tiny but believe she will fling herself at u if need be
an aries!! god no wonder she’s so competitive
SUUUUUPER into types of magic and magical knowledge like girl took way too many owls just bc she’s so fascinated in the nature of magic and how it can be used and magic from other cultures bc of how magical linguistics work and it definitely fed into her becoming a cursebreaker
v loyal friend but also highkey has excellent side eye for when ur being a dumbass
loves sugar quills and chaos
tends to take her time on some issues bc logically she sees pros and cons from both sides but when she makes an Emotional Decision™ on it, she’ll stand by it. until then, it’s mostly deliberating from a logical standpoint, which is prone to change with new info (things like joining the order tho are like… in her opinion, there’s nothing to debate with that?? like, that was the obvious right choice, it’s not something less clear cut)
dropped herbology and astronomy so fuckin quick after fifth year —- she liked neville a lot, but herbology is just not her cup of tea
stans viktor krum so fuckin hard
she has wanted connections that i will Think About More And Post but i have to send my ass to sleep asap
[ parental death tw ] her mum raised her by herself at first and then reconnected with her dad but he died when viv was about ten [ end parental death tw ]
scottish (always lived in glasgow area)
“swearing in a scottish accent is patriotic, minerva”
recalcitrant, reckless, harsh, impatient, unforgiving, highly critical, abrasive, sharp-tongued, blunt, not... super comforting
but also: loyal, ferocious, tough, determined, dauntless, quick-witted, unflinching, clever, dedicated, wry, perceptive, protective
currently dating al potter, timeline tbd (but recent-ish), lives w lily potter
travelled a bit/was in and out of the uk during her training but is Firmly Back Now other than any work trip she may have
re: time clash —- oof. ooooof. ok. well, not thrilled that her mother has, for all intents and purposes, disappeared. she realises that the cho currently around is literally her mother, but also she very much isn’t, and it’s a weird situation. trying to be there for her though, and also marlene & other mckinnons who have popped up, though from what she’s heard abt the mckinnon side of marlene’s family, she’s not super inclined to be welcoming (touched on in marls’ bio, but seeing as that’s only linked in discord bc her intro is still drafted for now, tl;dr is that the mckinnon grandparents were racist, mostly in the like... ‘i voted for obama!! how can i be racist, even w all these microaggressions??’ sorta way, though there were a few more Explicit Incidents). still, having her family around is weird, but it’s far, far from the worst of it all.
really interested in the actual logistics of the timeclash and is someone who is thinking abt the logical progressions that can occur from here, but also —- in line w being unforgiving, she’s... in theory, she does agree with the idea that you can’t punish someone for something they haven’t done yet. but she looks at people like theodore nott & peter pettigrew & that just burns away, and all the theory and thoughts go out the fucking window and she wants to step on them and grind them to dust with her heel.
character parallels: holly short (artemis fowl), maya hart (gmw), elizabeth swann (potc), zoë nightshade (pjo), leia organa (star wars), thalia grace (pjo), kat stratford (10 things i hate about you), patty (she’s out of my league), xena (xena warrior princess), paris geller (gilmore girls), isabelle lightwood (the shadowhunter chronicles), hands holloway (accepted), drainpipe edwards (vinyl 2012), james rhodes (marvel), and apparently fuckin’ legolas greenleaf lmfaaaaaaao [ many of these r from charactour so... watch me add some as actual ones come to mind, probably ]

Monday Snippet
Interesting House Guests (Or The time Sirius invited the lads to spend the week at Grimmauld Place)
Sirius knew the best way to get them invited over was to play up any of their families' wizarding credentials and to make them sound as socially acceptable as possible. James was a guarantee. Remus was easy too, on account that no one ever asked about the mothers.
